The FBI and CISA have posted a joint statement revealing that numerous commercial telecommunications organizations have been breached by a hacking group associated with the Chinese government.

The joint statement posted to the official FBI website states the US government is continuing its investigation into the People's Republic of China (PRC) targeting of commercial telecommunications infrastructure across the US, and that it can confirm the existence of a "broad and significant cyber espionage campaign." More specifically, the joint statement reads that US officials have identified PRC-affiliated actors that have "compromised networks at multiple telecommunications companies" to steal customer call data, information, and other data.

Notably, the group behind these attacks on US infrastructure is reportedly Salt Typhoon, which has gained access to customer call records data along with private communications of individuals within the US government. Furthermore, US officials can also confirm the group gained access to a US wiretap system, which is used by authorities to submit requests for court orders. It was only in September 2024 that Salt Typhoon targeted a selection of US internet service providers in what is believed to be a reconnaissance attack to gather information on potential targets for future heavier attacks.

The experts from Digital Foundry have discussed the performance uplift for Sony's PlayStation 5 Pro and how it comes to the base model and Sony's marketing for the new console.

According to the experts who discussed the newly released console on their weekly podcast, Sony's PlayStation 5 Pro is delivering anywhere between 30% and 35% performance gains compared to the base model, which falls short of Sony's touted 45% gains found scattered among PS5 Pro marketing. Notably, the experts point to memory bandwidth limitations as being the likely culprit for lacking performance gains at higher resolutions. For those that don't know, raw GPU horsepower doesn't necessarily equal more performance in games, as memory bandwidth also plays a big role, especially at higher resolutions such as 4K.

From the testing that was conducted by Digital Foundry the experts found the lackluster performance gains at higher resolutions, which leads them to suspect the PS5 Pro's 28% increase in memory bandwidth versus the standard model may be the limitation as to what is holding back the console from reaching Sony's touted 45%. However, this is just a working theory at the moment, as Digital Foundry said more testing needs to be done to determine the cause.

Windows 11 has witnessed another bug creeping into the mix of various glitches that have been seen since the 24H2 update kicked off, and this is a weird issue (again), though apparently it has just been fixed.

What's happening is that those running Windows 11 23H2 (and 22H2) who have installed the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5046633) are being told their version of the operating system is out of date.

As shown by a Windows 11 23H2 user on Reddit (hat tip to Neowin), the OS informed them that their version of Windows has reached end of service just after the installation of KB5046633 had finished.

A UK consumer group has filed a £3 billion (US$3.82 billion) claim against Apple over its iCloud pricing and packaging details, which the consumer group alleges violates consumer practices in the UK and has resulted in Apple gaining an "unfair advantage" in the market.

The claim comes from Which?, a consumer watchdog that tests products and services. Which? alleges in the claim that Apple's practices may have impacted as many as 40 million people across the UK, spanning back to October 1, 2015. Which? alleges Apple's practices has gained it market dominance, mentioning a "key tactic" that is used is Apple encouraging users to sign up to iCloud for "storage of photos, videos, and other data while simultaneously making it difficult to use alternative providers."

Moreover, the claim points out that "Apple does not allow customers to store or back up all of their phone's data with a third-party provider" and that once iCloud storage has exceeded the free 5GB limit, users are prompted with notifications reminding them to upgrade their iCloud storage to continue backing up photos, videos, and other data. Which? is seeking damages for approximately 40 million customers that have had iCloud services since October 2015, and the consumer watchdog believes £70 per customer is appropriate.

Phison has announced its latest addition to its Pascari D-Series data SSDs, and it's set to be showcased at SC24 in Atlanta, Georgia, between November 17 and 22.

The newest SSD offering from Phison is the Pascari D205V drive, which the company claims is the world's first PCIe Gen5 128TB data center class SSD. Preorders for the new are currently available, and according to Phison's press release the new drive has been specifically designed to mitigate the data deluge that is pouring onto data centers around the world.

The company explains that data centers are currently under strain from ramping data usage, and the Pascari D205V drive is designed to alleviate some of that strain by providing a solution that maximizes investment from data center owners. As for what's inside of the new SSD, Phison explains the Pascari D205V drive combines Phison's X2 controller and the latest 3D QLC technology, making the SSD capable of pu8shing 14,600 MB/s sequential read and 3,000K IOPS random read performance.

NVIDIA's latest GeForce Game Ready Drivers, version 566.14, includes the newest iteration of DLSS - version 3.8.10. PC gamers don't need to be aware of every DLSS update, as games that ship with DLSS support include the relevant files. However, this latest iteration is notable because it's over 50% smaller than the previous version.

It turns out NVIDIA has removed many of the DLSS presets contained within the DLSS DLL, only keeping the latest two - Preset E and Preset F. These presets handle the various image scaling settings and other aspects of DLSS upscaling, and newer versions deliver better image quality and other benefits.

For those who like to experiment, tinker, and replace DLSS DLL files with newer versions for older titles, these incremental updates can often improve things like image stability, ghosting, and artifacts in some games.

The world of robotics is certainly heating up with the recent showcase of Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot and now Chinese company Deep Robotics' unveiling of its quadruped Lynx.

The company released a video on its YouTube channel showcasing the capabilities of the Lynx, such as its ability to navigate uphill and downhill terrain that is rough, rocky, and unstable. Lynx uses all-terrain wheels for hands and feet, and it appears the design has been inspired by off-road quad bikes but combined with traditional robotics. The video showcases the Lynx conquering uphill and downhill slopes at 50-degree inclines in a woodland setting while also being able to climb up a rock that measures 80cm from the ground.

Deep Robotics is an already established robotics manufacturer with the company's flagship products, the X20 and X30 models, already being adopted across various sectors such as security, exploration, and public rescue operations. Notably, X20 models were used to perform inspections on earthquake-stricken regions in 2023. The robots are capable of carrying out independent searches by themselves or also coordinated searches over an area, making them useful for gathering information on a location.

A group of cyber criminals have claimed responsibility for a hack that resulted in 1.469 terabytes (TB) of data being stolen from the American Associated Pharmacies (AAP).

The AAP has taken to its website to post a notice informing its customers that the passwords to their accounts have been reset as the APP suspects its servers have been compromised. The AAP wrote that all existing credentials will no longer be "valid to access the sites" and that users will need to navigate to "forgot password" and follow the prompts accordingly. The group called Embargo has claimed responsibility for the attack, writing on its website the AAP paid $1.3 million to have their systems decrypted, but now the group is demanding an additional $1.3 million not to release the stolen data.

Notably, as always with ransomware stories, take the claims by the hacking group with a healthy amount of skepticism as sometimes they aren't exactly what is being alleged or completely false. As for what Embargo wants ransom for, it isn't exactly clear as details, such as the type of stolen data, haven't been released to the public. However, Embargo has given the AAP until November 20 to pay the additional $1.3 million, and if that date is exceeded, the hacking group will leak the stolen data online.

A network of four telescopes identified an asteroid entering Earth's atmosphere on October 22, and just two hours later, it plummeted over the Pacific Ocean.

The Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) survey located in Hawaii is a network of telescopes dedicated to identifying asteroids that have a trajectory that lines up with Earth. The system scans the sky for any moving objects and maps their trajectory, marking those that are going to collide with the planet. As for last month's asteroid, the detection system didn't spot the space rock due to its position near the edge of two adjacent viewing fields.

The position of the asteroid resulted in it being marked as a moving object rather than an "imminent impactor" which is what it should have been categorized as. Notably, this is the third "imminent impactor" detected only hours before collision this year, with the two others being 2024 BX1, approximately 3.3 feet wide, and burnt up over Berlin, and the other, 2024 RW1, which exploded over the Philippines.

Warcraft is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and as part of the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct stream, Blizzard announced and launched remasters of the games that started it all. Last week, we reported on the rumor that we would probably see a Warcraft II: Remastered announcement - we got three.

First, Warcraft I: Remastered reimagines the 1994 RTS classic Warcraft: Orcs & Humans with new HD assets, widescreen support, modern controls (right-click move), and UI improvements. Next, Warcraft II: Remastered does the same for the game that turned the franchise into a mega-hit with PC gamers, updating the visuals, controls, and presentation for 2024.

As we saw with StarCraft: Remastered, the previous low-resolution 2D visuals are transformed when jumping to HD. For the first two Warcraft games, the bright, vibrant visuals give these remasters the look of a cartoon. It's impressive, and thankfully, the old-school sound effects, classic voices, and music remain untouched.

According to Jon Peddie Research, the global graphics processor unit (GPU) market will be worth almost $100 billion by the end of the year - an astonishing figure that factors in the current AI boom and highly sought-after GPUs from NVIDIA.

The report notes that GPUs are becoming increasingly ubiquitous in technology and "can be found in almost every industrial, scientific, commercial, and consumer product made today." This includes game consoles, PCs, data centers, handhelds, VR, wearables, smart TVs, vehicles, and more. The report also acknowledges the rise of integrated GPUs, as seen in the latest Apple, AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm processors.

The report quickly points out that GPUs for data centers are "low-volume compared to other market segments," but when an NVIDIA GPU can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and demand for them is through the roof - AI is a big part of the GPU market that "will exceed $98.5 billion in 2024."

Japan's SoftBank is the first to receive NVIDIA's new Blackwell GPU design for its AI supercomputer, with plans to also use Grace Blackwell chips to "further its supercomputer" says NVIDIA.

In an AI event held in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday, both SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang were in attendance. The two CEOs held a "fireside chat" at the event, with Jensen telling a story that Son once offered to lend him money to buy NVIDIA, as its value wasn't understood in the market at the time.

Jensen said, laughing: "He wanted to lend me money to buy NVIDIA. All of it. Now I regret not taking it".

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl developer GSC Game World has released the final specs and PC system requirements for the game ahead of its highly anticipated November 20, 2024 launch. And if you're rocking older PC hardware, you might want to take note, as the game will require some serious juice to push 1440p and higher visuals.

The good news is that the game is set to launch with support for both NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR upscaling and Frame Generation technologies so that you can boost and enhance performance beyond the requirements. However, you'll still need at least 160GB of SSD space to install the game, with GSC also recommending that you play on a system with 32GB of Dual Channel memory.

GSC's recommended specs for the game, which is to play at 1440p 60 FPS, will require a GeForce RTX 4070 or Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU. The medium or 1080p 60 FPS specs require at least a GeForce RTX 4060 or equivalent GPU.

With the arrival of new CPUs this year, it has been world record season for overclockers looking to push performance into that realm that requires copious amounts of liquid nitrogen cooling. AMD's new Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor is down and out, with one user showing pictures of a toasted 9800X3D and AM5 socket that looks to be from installation error by the user.

In a new post on Reddit, a user posted pictures of his new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor teamed with an MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk motherboard with both the CPU and AM5 socket burned and damaged. The user reported that he was getting "00" postcodes, with a user on the MSI forums saying they had the same errors, but we don't know if the other user had a "burning" issue.

There were some Redditors (of which I agree with) that pointed out the pinks look bent and that there is visible damage on the AM5 socket of the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk motherboard, which is most likely from the user stuffing up the installation of his new 9800X3D processor. This shouldn't have happened, and is most likely user error during installation, and not some nasty fault of AMD's new Ryzen 7 9800X3D chip.

A former Pentagon official has testified to Congress that the US government has evidence that "we are not alone in the cosmos" and that a government "cabal" is hiding the evidence from the American people, and the world.

Luiz Elizondo was the former head of the Defense Department's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) and was tasked with investigating Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs). Elizondo was joined by other witness and UFO whistleblowers that testified before the House Oversight Committee.

Elizondo said: "Excessive secrecy has lead to grave misdeeds against loyal civil servants, military personnel and the public, all to hide the fact that we are not alone in the cosmos" after which he referred to the group as a "cabal".
