HORI reveals new ONYX PS4 controller

| Jan 11, 2018 5:17 PM CST

Sony has approved a number of official controllers across vendors like HORI and even Razer in an attempt to offer PS4 players a range of options, and now the games-maker continues this trend with the Onyx.

HORI reveals new ONYX PS4 controller

HORI's new Onyx controller is shaped very much like an Xbox One controller, meaning it should be pretty good for shooters. The standard DualShock 4 can be funky at times, especially with its floating triggers (those things are a nightmare to fix if you lose the little spring), so major vendors and peripheral-makers have stepped in with their own respective solutions.

Outside of its looks and ergonomic feel, all in all the Onyx seems to act just like a regular DualShock 4: it sports wireless connectivity, has all of the buttons in the same place (well maybe except for the floating triggers), and rocks the touchpad that can often be wonky to use in-game.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age coming to PC at 60FPS

| Jan 11, 2018 3:23 PM CST

Square Enix is bringing its Zodiac Age remaster to Steam next month, offering a host of features not included in the console version.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age coming to PC at 60FPS

Having played Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age on PS4, I can say the game looks and plays great, but it should really shine on PC. Apparently the publisher agrees and that's why the remastered port will run at 60FPS on PC, as well as include support for up to three 21:9 ultra-wide monitors at once, and also full controller support on Steam.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is slated to launch on February 2, 2018 on Steam for $49.99.

Dark Souls coming to Nintendo Switch

| Jan 11, 2018 12:09 PM CST

In order to reach a more broad audience and re-release one of its most beloved franchises, Bandai Namco is bringing a remastered port of the original Dark Souls games across a slew of platforms.

Dark Souls coming to Nintendo Switch

Months ago there were rumors that a Dark Souls trilogy would be coming to the Nintendo Switch, but those reports were only half right: instead of all three games the Japanese publisher is launching the first as a remaster on the Switch. As the Switch has sold over 10 million units, meeting Nintendo's internal fiscal year estimates, it's only natural developers and publishers are seeing it as a major entry in the current console gen race. Details are slim at this point, but we do know the game will launch on May 25, 2018 for $39.99 on the platform.

Dark Souls: Remastered is also coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 consoles, with the added bonus of supporting 4K resolution if you own a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, or have the proper PC hardware to support it.

SEGA announce Total War: Three Kingdoms

| Jan 11, 2018 11:37 AM CST

The next game has been revealed in the award-winning real-time strategy franchise Total War. SEGA has begun showcasing Total War: Three Kingdoms with an announcement trailer and a bunch of screenshots.

SEGA announce Total War: Three Kingdoms

SEGA has taken to their social media channels to announce Total War: Three Kingdoms and has lifted the veil on which major historical event the game will be set in. It appears that ancient China has been the choice of the new games location, and more specifically the year of 190CE, which is a time of turmoil within the country.

Three Kingdoms will be following the relationship of three heroes, each sworn to brotherhood in order to come together to face the hand of tyranny. SEGA has said "The year is 190CE. China is in turmoil. The Han Dynasty crumbles before the child-emperor. He is but a figurehead; a mere puppet for the tyrant warlord Dong Zhuo. It is a brutal and oppressive regime, and as Dong Zhuo's power grows, the empire slips further into the cauldron of anarchy. But hope yet blossoms."

Monster Hunter producer discusses PC port delay

| Jan 11, 2018 9:29 AM CST

It came to our attention recently that Capcom are delaying the release for Monster Hunter: World on PC, with the console version of the game is due for release very soon Ryozo Tsujimoto has come fourth and has explained why the developer has decided to extend the PC launch for more development time.

Monster Hunter producer discusses PC port delay

In a recent conversation with GamesRadar, Ryozo Tsujimoto producer of Monster Hunter has said that the PC port for the game is no small feat and that the company would like to make sure that the game they have designed is up to scratch for PC gamers. Unlike most companies these days simply porting over a very rough version of their game from console to PC, Capcom has decided to take their time with their release, in hopes PC gamers will understand when it is finally launched.

Tsujimoto explains that rather than diversifying the development resources between the console release and the PC port, the company has decided that it will instead focus their attention on one project at a time. This will happen until the console version is completely ready and essentially "out the door."

Civilization VI: Rise and Fall reveals Georgia, Queen Tamar

Judging from the below video, it seems Georgia is going to be quite a balanced Civilization when compared to the others featured in the Rise and Fall expansion. It appears that she will have not only strong unique units but also city defenses, as well as golden age and faith bonuses. This means that she will easily be able to pursue religious, cultural or domination victories across the map.

For more information regarding the Georgia and Queen Tamars unique perks refer to the below video as Sid Meier's Civilization's YouTube channel has released a short video summarizing how Georgia is going to slot into the Rise and Fall expansion.

Rumor: Microsoft eyes engagement via avatar lootcrate system

| Jan 10, 2018 6:23 PM CST

Microsoft might be targeting more dynamic engagement interactions with Xbox LIVE users with a new, multi-faceted approach to its avatar system.

In an older article I explained how Xbox LIVE, not Xbox consoles, is the center of Microsoft's gaming division. Rather than compete directly with Sony and try to sell as many Xbox consoles as they can, Microsoft took a more long-term route that you may recognize from the likes of EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Blizzard, and Take-Two Interactive: monetizing engagement and ensuring players remain "sticky" in the network. By adding in tons of social features such as communities and giving players a direct line of contact with one another in a more organic fashion, Microsoft promoted a more personalized and engaging atmosphere for gamers--thus ensuring they'll likely continue subscribing and buying games, thus Microsoft is able to monetize this engagement (advertisements too!).

Microsoft also recently announced Xbox Quests, a new way to engage players by offering tantalizing prizes for completing objectives or "quests" within the network or specific games--ie getting a certain GamerScore in an alotted time, or play X matchmade games, etc etc.

Sony sold 5.9 million PS4s during holiday season

| Jan 10, 2018 5:16 PM CST

Sony nearly sold 6 million PlayStation 4 consoles in less than a month's time, according to company estimates.

Sony sold 5.9 million PS4s during holiday season

An estimated 5.9 million PS4 units were sold-through (sold, not shipped) to consumers during the holiday season, which was measured from Nov. 20 through Dec. 31, 2017. This spike bumped the total PS4 sell-through to over 73.6 million units globally since its launch in 2013, meaning that 8% of total PS4 sales were made during 2017's holiday timeframe.

Sony also touted that over 55.9 million PS4 games were sold during the period across digital and retail, and total PlayStation Plus subscribers has now reached 31.5 million, meaning Sony now enjoys a 42.7% conversion rate in subs (of course we don't know how many of these were full year/monthly/3 month subscribers).

Call of Duty: WWII nazi zombies The Darkest Shore trailer

| Jan 10, 2018 10:47 AM CST

The first DLC to hit Call of Duty: WWII is about to be here, with The Darkest Shore continuing the very popular zombie storyline, this time according to Activision, the zombies will be "more cunning, quick, and even more bloodthirsty than before."

Call of Duty: WWII nazi zombies The Darkest Shore trailer

As seen in the video, the new map allows for players to make use of various traps that are located around the area, to make things harder it seems that that there is thick fog effects surrounding the entire island which would not only add to the atmospheric feel of the game, but also hinder line of sight.

The Darkest Shore is set to be only days after the last disaster at Mittelburg, as the main antagonist Doktor Straub is found to be on The Darkest Shore island. Players will have to endure zombies coming fourth from the surrounding seas while they traverse the island in hopes to uncover "mysteries hidden within The Darkest Shore."

God of War director steers clear of the open world genre

| Jan 9, 2018 4:16 AM CST

The open world genre seems to be quite attracting to developers these days as many games seem to be adopting the genre in hopes of widening the universe that their game is built around.

God of War director steers clear of the open world genre

Sometimes players of open world games say that their attachment to the main characters is diluted down by the sheer size of the world. Cory Barlog, the director of God of War seems to agree with this and says that his franchise will be taking a more "wide linear" approach, rather than jumping straight into massive open world.

In a recent interview with GameInformer, Barlog delves into the open world genre, bringing some good points about the genre disadvantages. Barlog says that when he was playing open world games that the experience felt more like "homework" as the list of things he "had" to do was to away from the character development.

League of Legends streamer crackers 370,000 concurrent views

| Jan 9, 2018 3:38 AM CST

Back in 2016, a League of Legends streamer going by the name of Tyler1 was banned by Riot as he was deemed detrimental to the communities health, Riot labeled the streamer as "a genuine jerk" but now his account has been returned to him.

Tyler1 has described himself as rehabilitated and that must of been enough for Riot, an account review has passed the standards of Riot, which then lifted the ban. As the old streamer was originally not allowed to stream League of Legends at all that ban has also been lifted which has created a massive influx of viewers curious to Tyler1's return.

The stream titled "THE RETURN" has been so popular that it has broken Twitches record for a single streamer being watched at once with 378,000 viewers, Faker originally held the record with 245,000 concurrent viewers on his first ever live stream back in February last year.

From the above video we can see that Enchantress has quite a unique array of abilities, ranging from a number of counters and the ability to teleport around the stage. To balance the fact that she can kite her opponent with teleportation and range attacks it appears that she is quite slow with movement and attacks in general.

Enchantress will belong to the Fighter Pack 3 DLC that also includes Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and Atom the size-changing superhero. Below you can find the full fighter pack 3 reveal trailer showing off all of the new characters.

New Skyrim mod brings 30+ hours of content and new region

| Jan 8, 2018 10:30 AM CST

For a game that was released back in November of 2011 it is incredible that mods are still being created for Skyrim. Modder 'Arcky' has released a new video showcasing 'Lordbound' an upcoming mod that is going to add a new region to the game and 30+ more hours of content.

New Skyrim mod brings 30+ hours of content and new region

A new region being added to Skyrim seems like a impossible task but from looking at the above video it can be seen that the environments that have been created do not disappoint at all. To go with this new region the mod will also include non-linear quests, new weapons and armor which is said to be totaling up to a massive 30+ hours of content to get through once finalized.

Unfortunately there is no set time for release for the mod as the team working on it is quite small and is taking their time to perfect it. Originally, Lordbound was due for release back in Q4 of 2017, but as the year moved closer to the end the team realized that they needed extra time to work out the kinks and further polish it before release.
