Starfield is available to stream in 4K via NVIDIA GeForce NOW, supporting Steam and Game Pass
NVIDIA's GeForce NOW is widely considered one of the best cloud gaming platforms in terms of latency, visual fidelity, and overall experience - it takes the games you own across platforms like Steam. It gives you the ability to stream them without the need for high-end PC hardware.
And it's the latter that has made the GeForce NOW Ultimate for USD 19.99 a month tier impressive because it gives you access to GeForce RTX 4080 hardware to stream and run games with DLSS 3 technology, NVIDIA Reflex, real-time ray-tracing, and all in 4K. The visual fidelity for cloud gaming doesn't get any better.
And with that, NVIDIA has confirmed that Starfield is available to play - as part of the service move to include Xbox Game Pass and first-party Xbox titles as part of its line-up of supported games. Starfield on GeForce NOW running on a GeForce RTX 4080 can push higher than 60fps performance using the Ultra spec with AMD's FSR 2 upscaling. And with free trials for both GeForce NOW and PC Game Pass available, you can jump in to try it out for yourself.
Grand Theft Auto V officially turns 10 years old
It might be hard to believe, but Grand Theft Auto V turns 10 years old today.
There's really nothing quite like Grand Theft Auto V. It really is a best-selling titan. Despite the fact that it was released at the tail-end of the Xbox 360 generation, the game still managed to sell over 11 million copies in 24 hours and make over $1 billion in sales within three days after launch. The game has gone on to make over 8x that in the last decade.
While Rockstar is celebrating GTA V's 10-year anniversary with new Grand Theft Auto Online content, we decided to take a look at the various milestones that Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have achieved through GTA V's continued support.

Top Star Wars game director leaves EA, puts Jedi trilogy in question
After nearly 10 years and two best-selling Star Wars games under his belt, sources tell Bloomberg that game director Stig Asmussen has left Respawn Entertainment.
As game director of two Jedi games, Fallen Order and Survivor, Stig Asmussen helped change how EA treats the Star Wars franchise. Both games have been big hits, selling millions of copies and reaching tens of millions of people. The live service-driven publisher was shown that singleplayer games without microtransactions can still achieve explosive success.
Now after helping further the legacy of Star Wars media, Stig is apparently leaving Respawn, the developers behind the Star Wars duo. "After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck," an EA rep told Bloomberg's Jason Schreier.

None of the new Final Fantasy 7 games support cross-save, direct progress does not carry over
Square Enix re-confirms that all of the new Final Fantasy 7 games are standalone experiences and clarifies what that means for player progress.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is on the horizon and gamers are eager to continue Cloud's new re-imagined journey. There's just one issue: Save files from Final Fantasy 7 Remake are not compatible with Rebirth. Square Enix actually has a good reason for this, saying that each individual game in the new FF7 trilogy are not only sold as standalone games, but they also have unique features and systems. For example, Rebirth uses a new synergy-based combat system.
Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of FF7 Rebirth, told the PlayStation Blog that progress like levels, items, abilities, etc. will not carry over between each individual game in the trilogy. So that means progress from Rebirth won't carry over into the next game, either.
PlayStation 5 max external SSD capacity boosted to 8TB
Sony has effectively doubled the PlayStation 5's additional storage with a new update.
The latest PS5 update unlocks some great new features for the console. Users can now expand their PS5's M.2 SSD storage beyond 4TB with the beta firmware update boosting total max M.2 capacity to 8TB.
The standard SSD compatibility rules still apply after the update--any M.2 SSD you put into a PS5 needs to hit a speed threshold of 5.5GB/sec and at least 250GB in capacity. The good news is that the PS5 supports a bunch of M.2 form factors including 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110. Our own PS5 temperature testing shows that consumers should consider adding a heatsink to their SSDs to help deal with the PS5's heat management. The PS5 can get a bit toasty when pushing 4K.

Game Pass subscribers could be well over 30 million by now
A LinkedIn page says Xbox Game Pass has 30 million subscribers, but the actual number could be a few millions more.
Microsoft has a habit of withholding key information about Xbox. It was one of the reasons the FTC v Microsoft trial was so interesting; we went from data scarcity to a deluge of numbers and percentages. Thanks to the Microsoft-Activision merger, we learned how much money Game Pass actually makes. Now there's more clues about one key bit of info that Microsoft rarely updates: total Game Pass subscribers.
The amount of subscribers is actually pretty important. Microsoft has staked the future of its video games business on the subscription and the amount of actual paying users is the first metric to really highlight the strength of the business. The last official Game Pass subscriber count is "over 25 million". This metric hasn't been updated officially since March 2022.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs have seen their price drop in the US to $549
Several GeForce RTX 4070 models have dropped in price at US retailers, including Amazon and Newegg, with several variants currently available for USD 549 - a decent 8.3% discount compared to the MSRP of USD 599. This is the first time we've seen the GeForce RTX 4070 being sold at a substantial discount, with the $50 price reduction making one of the most attractive options in the GeForce RTX 40 Series lineup even more so.
In a statement supplied to Wccftech, NVIDIA PR notes, "Today, the GeForce RTX 4070 is widely available from just $549," citing brands like ASUS, GIGABYTE, and MSI. "This is a great choice for gamers looking to upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and other upcoming DLSS 3.5 titles, such as Alan Wake 2, at 1440p," the statement continues.
And with that, models like the GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GeForce RTX 4070 12GB, MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 4070 12GB, ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 Twin Edge OC, and ASUS DUAL GeForce RTX 4070 have all seen their prices updated to $549.
Cyberpunk 2077's game-changing Update 2.0 with DLSS 3.5 launches next week
In case you haven't been following the latest goings on in Night City, alongside a massive story expansion dropping later this month, developer CD Projekt Red is dropping the longa-awaited Update 2.0 to the game for all players on PC and current-gen consoles next week on September 21.
As we're closing in on the game's third anniversary, it's safe to say that as of writing, and with the arrival of Update 2.0, Cyberpunk 2077 is a very different game than what was delivered at launch back in 2020. With most bugs and performance issues now sorted, Update 2.0 is about overhauling the game by adding new gameplay systems and reworking some of the stuff already there.
In addition to making the policing system more in line with something like Grand Theft Auto, adding dynamic vehicle combat, and improving enemy AI to enhance the moment-to-moment action, Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion also see the addition of DLSS 3.5 to make the stunning in-game ray-tracing even more incredible.
Elon Musk announces X users can now hide the Likes tab
Elon Musk has announced that X users will now be able to hide their Likes tab that is displayed on their profiles. Despite the launch of the new feature, Musk recommends accounts keep their Likes open.
Musk took to his X profile on September 15 to announce and highlight a new feature that was seemingly silently rolled out by the developers of the app that was formerly called Twitter. The new feature is the "Hide Likes tab", and gives users the option of removing the Likes tab from their profile, which can be viewed by the public. If the option is enabled, users will still be able to see the Likes tab on their profile, but other users, and X APIs, will not.
The option doesn't hide Likes from individual posts, as the feature states, "Your individual Likes will still be visible on posts". Musk announced the new feature but recommended that people still keep their Likes tab open for viewing, and steered those that use Likes as a way of bookmarking content to using the dedicated Bookmark option on posts for "interesting posts".

Meta is going to release its VR social app Horizon Worlds on web and mobile
Meta has been developing Horizon Worlds for quite some time now, and the company is now announcing an expansion to new platforms for the VR social app.
In a new blog post on its website, Meta announced that Horizon Worlds is making its way over to web and mobile, in an effort to expand the user base that is currently limited to people who own the Quest VR headset. This announcement comes at a time when it appears Horizon Worlds' userbase is dwindling, and despite Meta never releasing official player statistics, reports citing internal documents revealed the social space is barely populated.
For those that don't know about Horizon Worlds, it's a game that players can either join or create "worlds" to socialize and play in. The ecosystem also features a store where users can sell virtual items. However, Meta snags a 47.5% cut of every sale. Meta writes in a blog post that a small number of people can now access the Meta Quest app on Android and iOS, and early access is currently available to anyone on a web browser at the following link here. https://horizon.meta.com/
Nintendo unveils an absolutely chaotic new battle royale title
Nintendo just got finished with its September Direct and there was one title announced that is worth highlighting, as it seems to have created a mixed response among gamers.
Introducing Nintendo's newest battle royale title, a re-release of the classic racing title F-Zero, but in the form of complete chaos. Nintendo announced F-Zero 99, it's newest game in the series in nearly 20 years, and from the reveal trailer it can be gathered that players are going to have a hard time making it all the way to first place as games contain 99 racers per track.
The newest title in the series is based on the very first F-Zero game that was released in 1990 on the SNES, with players having the ability to change vehicle designs, pick up power ups, and even use a skyway that allows for a quick safe skip ahead to a higher position in the race. Nintendo announced during the direct that F-Zero 99 is already out and all users subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online will be able to play for free.

NASA releases 5 stunning images captured in light invisible to human eyes
The US space agency has released a new collection of images captured in various wavelengths of light that are invisible to the human eye, showcasing the chaotic beauty of space.
NASA has taken to its blog to release a quintet of images snapped by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, along with other world-leading telescopes, showing off the ability and advantages of observing the universe in different wavelengths of light - including X-rays, infrared, and radio. Each of these forms of light has been assigned a color that the human eye can perceive, allowing researchers to look deeper into the universe and uncover its wild mysteries.
The below images and the objects seen in them range in category and distance, with Vela and Kepler both being remnants of stars that have gone supernova, and NGC 1365 being a double-barred spiral galaxy. There is also an image of a galaxy hurling its way through space and what is left behind if that event occurs, ESO 137-001.

Nintendo announces its gaming museum will be finished by March
Nintendo is converting one of its old fabrication laboratories into a museum honoring its long participation in the video game industry.
Nintendo announced during its September Direct event that was held last night that it's nearing the completion of the Nintendo Museum that was originally announced in 2021, and during the livestream, you can see the iconic question mark block that's painted onto the roof of the building. The Nintendo Museum is converted from an old Nintendo building located in Kyoto, Japan, into a gallery displaying various products that represent the company's long participation in the video game industry.
There is currently no word on the official opening day, but Nintendo has announced that the park is expected to be completed by March next year, which means we can assume a likely official opening within the following months. As for what will be inside the museum, anyone's guess is good, as Nintendo has kept that news under wraps. If I were to guess what will be on display, I'd say at least a timeline of all the Nintendo devices up until the Nintendo Switch, along with some of the biggest and most popular games produced by the company.

NASA's UFO report calls for use of AI to detect unexplainable anomalies
A team of researchers that evaluated the US government's evidence on UFOs has recommended that AI-powered tools should be implemented to help shift through large swaths of data.
NASA has recently released a highly anticipated report on the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), or more commonly referred to as UFOs. The report is an independent study conducted by 16 community members with a range of expertise that evaluated the information the US government has on UFOs, and provided a conclusion, much to everyone's suspicions, that there isn't enough clear data to determine an origin for the objects.
The researchers provided many recommendations to increase the efforts of analyzing UFOs and gather much clearer and conclusive data. For example, the study recommends the adoption of sophisticated data analysis techniques that include artificial intelligence and machine learning. The study recommends that AI-powered tools be coupled with a comprehensive UFO detection campaign that features systematic data gathering and robust curation.
NASA releases highly anticipated UFO report that reaches some big conclusions
NASA has finally released its long-awaited UFO report, or as officially called the independent study on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).
The independent study involved a team of 16 community experts across many areas that were relevant to the methods carried out in the study, and NASA's overall goal. The space agency set out to evaluate the evidence acquired by the US government on UAPs from a scientific perspective, and it's conclusion would be to create a roadmap that for data and science to develop a greater understanding of the phenomena.
The study concluded that the data the team looked over came back inconclusive, with the researchers determining that with the current data there isn't enough evidence to determine the origin of these objects, leading the researchers to call for well-calibrated sensors to be developed and designed to track these objects. Simultaneously, the team called on NASA to leverage its expertise in this domain, with an overall push for more data to collected.
FineWoven iPhone 15 cases have started to arrive and they're weird
Apple's iPhone 15 announcement event might have seen the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 unveiled alongside those new iPhones, but one of the more interesting announcements was the switch away from leather accessories. The replacement, something Apple is calling FineWoven, is a new material that has replaced leather across Apple's lineup.
That doesn't mean that there are just new FineWoven iPhone cases, of course. There are now FineWoven Apple Watch bands and MagSafe Wallets, too. And some of the new iPhone cases have started to arrive in the hands of prospective iPhone 15 owners. And the early reception has been a mixed one, with some surprises along the way.
The biggest surprise is perhaps the fact that FineWoven cases appear to have some sort of faux leather material around the outside, something we hadn't realized until just now. That makes for a dual-material finish that, frankly, appears cheap. It's an odd decision, and we'd love to know why Apple made it.

Carrier eSIM tardiness means iPhone 15 still has a SIM tray for most
When Apple announced the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro devices last year they became the first iPhones to ditch the familiar SIM card tray, although only in the United States. Those buying the newest iPhones internationally still have a physical SIM tray because carriers weren't ready to offer eSIMs to all who wanted them. We thought that might change by the time the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro rolled around a year later.
It did not change, dear reader. And the international iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max continue to have a physical SIM card whether you want one, or not. And it seems that we can thank international carriers for that.
Physical SIM card trays have been around for years of course, getting smaller every so often. The nano-SIM is all well and good but eSIMs are so handy it's hard to argue that they aren't the better option. All iPhones do support eSIMs thankfully, and they can be used to add second lines where required. But with some carriers refusing to support eSIM entirely, some people are still left with that little piece of plastic.
