ASUS BTF ecosystem: motherboards, graphics cards, PC cases with hidden cables

Anthony Garreffa | Motherboards | Jan 9, 2024 12:06 AM CST

ASUS has just announced its new BTF ecosystem of gaming motherboards, graphics cards, and PC cases into its ROG and TUF Gaming family of products.

ASUS BTF ecosystem: motherboards, graphics cards, PC cases with hidden cables

ASUS has said that even before the rise of windowed side panels, ever-so-careful cable management was the "cornerstone of gaming PC building," and they're right. ASUS says it's no good to clog up your primary airflow pathway with a "rat's nest of loose cables" and that with so many builders putting their prized PC components -- GPUs, coolers, motherboards, RAM, and more -- cable management, "affects the aesthetics of your PC as much as its basic functionality".

The BTF ecosystem was born because "with all due respect to the cable combs, zip ties, and custom replacement kits of the world," ASUS would like to introduce its new ecosystem of BTF gaming motherboards, graphics cards, and PC cases to help you build the ultimate in an ultra-tidy PC.

And with the very best displays featuring NVIDIA G-SYNC, G-SYNC ULTIMATE, and G-SYNC Compatible VRR technology, NVIDIA is announcing the latest evolution of its cutting-edge variable refresh rate tech - G-SYNC Pulsar.

NVIDIA is calling G-SYNC Pulsar the next evolution of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology thanks to adding variable frequency strobing to improve motion clarity dramatically. With G-SYNC Pulsar off, a fast-moving image can look blurry even on a high refresh-rate display. With G-SYNC Pular enabled, that image is now crisp and clear, boosting the "effective motion clarity to over 1000Hz."

MSI's new GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series EXPERT card(s) feature a "push-pull airflow design for enhanced cooling" reminiscent of NVIDIA's Founders Edition design - with one fan on each side of the GPU. Throw in Aluminum Die-Casting to give it a metallic look, Vapor Chamber cooling, and a new 'patented fan design.' It looks stylish and very cool.

There is no word yet on which of the three RTX 40 SUPER Series cards will be getting EXPERT models or if all of them will, so stay tuned for more details. If we had to guess, we'd expect EXPERT models for the RTX 4080 SUPER and RTX 4070 Ti SUPER.

Sexy new AIOs and some themed DDR5 RAM shown off at GIGABYTE's CES 2024 Media Event

Chad Sebring | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Jan 8, 2024 9:25 PM CST

CES 2024 - Our first gathering with GIGABYTE came in the form of a media event with many members from other sites, as GIGABYTE showed off what is new in the world of GIGABYTE and AORUS products. While Ryan will be covering more of what we saw here, we will keep this one short and to the point of what we cover daily.

Sexy new AIOs and some themed DDR5 RAM shown off at GIGABYTE's CES 2024 Media Event

After a short video presentation, we were urged to have a walk around the various tables, and what follows comes in the form of a couple of new AIOs as well as a look at a set of DDR5 for those looking for a themed build that is exclusively GIGABYTE through and through.

While this image it not so much tech related as to what was described above, we just could not pass up on the opportunity to show off the statue that was just behind the table we sat at while watching the video presentation, and we found it too good not to show.

Generative AI by iStock is commercially safe image generation powered by NVIDIA Picasso

Kosta Andreadis | Artificial Intelligence | Jan 8, 2024 9:02 PM CST

The new Generative AI by iStock image generator, powered by NVIDIA Picasso, is impressive in its capabilities and commercially safe. This is an important distinction because there's a lot of controversy surrounding what data, art, and IP generative AI models are being trained on.

Generative AI by iStock is commercially safe image generation powered by NVIDIA Picasso

For example, The New York Times recently filed a lawsuit against ChatGPT and its owner, OpenAI, for using the news outlet's content to train generative AI platforms. It's asking for billions in compensation, and that's just one example. Generative AI by iStock is 'commercially safe' for use, with the generative AI trained on licensed iStock and Getty Images data - with compensation paid out to those who helped train the AI.

Whatever AI images you generate 'will not be added to the creative library for others to license' too. Okay, with that out of the way, let's move on to what makes this text-to-image generation tool impressive - editing with NVIDIA Picasso.

As for going RTX On, Diablo 4's real-time ray-tracing effects cover ray-traced reflections, ray-traced transparent reflections, and enhanced ray-traced shadows.

What's more is DLSS 3 Frame Generation, NVIDIA Reflex, and DLAA. At its CES 2024 presentation, NVIDIA mentioned that Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition is coming to PC early this year, which puts a tighter release window on the previous '2024' one. And with that, we've got a new trailer for the game running on a GeForce RTX-powered PC with DLSS 3 - and it looks stunning.

Horizon Forbidden West looks incredible on PS5, so we can only imagine what it will look like on one of the GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series GPUs launching this month. The DLSS and RTX gaming news from CES 2024 doesn't stop there, as more titles like Pax Dei and Dragon's Dogma 2 are also going RTX On.

Half-Life 2 RTX: An RTX Remix Project is a community-developed remaster of one of the most celebrated PC games of all time, with the global development team of modders at Orbifold Studios using the powerful RTX Remix platform to present a fully path traced and rar traced version of the game.

Half-Life 2 RTX gets a new stunning trailer, RTX Remix Open Beta launches later this month

Samsung announced a plethora of new products at CES 2024, including its new flagship HW-Q990D soundbar.

The new Samsung HW-Q990D soundbar features an 11.1.4-channel configuration, with the company baking in a new Party Mode audio profile and Private Listening mode that disables the front-firing speakers. Another big selling point of the new Samsung Q990D soundbar is that it supports HDMI 2.1 connectivity, allowing for 4K 120Hz passthrough for home theater enthusiasts.

Samsung is, of course, using AI to optimize sound on its new Q990D soundbar, which the company says optimizes sound for the performance experience across a wide range of content. There's not much new under the hood, so if you recently purchased the Q990C soundbar, you might not want to upgrade in 2024.

VESA's new DisplayPort 2.1a specs support longer UHBR cables

Anthony Garreffa | Displays | Jan 8, 2024 5:33 PM CST

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has announced the latest update to DisplayPort, with the introduction of version 2.1a.

VESA's new DisplayPort 2.1a specs support longer UHBR cables

The new DisplayPort 2.1a update replaces the VESA-certified DP40 ultra-high-bit-rate (UHBR) cable specification with a new VESA-certified DP54 UHBR cable specification that enables up to four-lane UBHR13.5 link rate support, with a maximum throughput of 54Gbps over a two-meter passive cable.

This means that the new DisplayPort 2.1a update doubles the passive cable length of UHBR13.5 GPU-to-display connections, something that was previously only possible through a DP80 UHBR cable, which provides users with greater flexibility on their gaming or workstation setup.
