NASA successfully gathered more samples from asteroid Bennu than it initially anticipated, with the OSIRIS-REx mission now being deemed more than a success.

NASA's ORISIS-REx spacecraft delivered more than 120 grams of Bennu asteroid samples back to Earth on September 24, 2023, with the space agency now saying it was the largest asteroid sample ever collected in space and more than twice the total amount of weight than what was required for the mission to be called a success.

NASA needed to recover at least 60 grams of asteroid material to meet the goals of the mission, and when the Touch-and-Go Sample Acquisition Mechanism (TAGSAM) head was opened, researchers basked their eyes on the treasure trove of ancient asteroid material.

Deepfake pornographic images of students took over a school and now lawmakers have been forced to come up with new laws to punish creators of the images.

The deepfake pornographic images event occurred in November last year at Issaquah High School in suburban Seattle, Washington State. A student at the school reportedly took photos of his female classmates and used AI technology to "undress" them. These photographs were then passed around the school, sparking police attention. 404 Media obtained the police report from the event, and it confirms that web-based apps designed to "nudify" or "undress" people were used to create deepfake images of underage female students.

Notably, the police report states these web apps only need one image of an individual to create a realistic nude image. Additionally, the police report states the school didn't immediately inform the authorities of the circulating images, and police were actually notified by three parents separately. Furthermore, an officer said they were surprised the school didn't contact police regarding the images as they qualify as "sexual abuse" and school administrators are "mandatory reporters".

Sony's Chief Operating Officer (COO) and president of Sony Group Corporation said during the Q3 2023 earnings report that sales of the PlayStation 5 were slightly disappointing, and that sales targets of the current-gen console had to be revised.

While this may seem irrelevant to next-generation consoles, a part of the reason for sales of the current-gen consoles being slightly disappointing is the cost of the hardware that goes into them. Notably, Sony previously had a sales target of 25 million units for 2023 but had to revise that sales goal down to 21 million units.

Now, Genki Japan filtered this information from Sony into a refined post on X, "Sony COO Totoki said that it is harder to grow profits on the PS5 as the life cycle goes on in comparison to previous generations. With previous gens, as time went on, it became cheaper to produce them. But with PS5, the parts are becoming more expensive as the life cycle goes on."

New reports indicate when Nintendo is planning on releasing its next-generation console, which is slated to be the Nintendo Switch 2.

The highly anticipated successor to the immensely popular Nintendo Switch may not come to market until at least early 2025, according to outlets such as Bloomberg, VGC, and Eurogamer. The reports state Nintendo's decision to delay the launch of its next-generation console was to provide the company enough time to gather a stronger launch line-up. Notably, the latest rumor surrounding when Nintendo will launch its next-generation console points to Q1 2025, which would align with the Nintendo Switch's release date, which was March 2017.

Apple has reportedly stopped development of its rumored foldable iPhones, following reports of the company making two foldable iPhone prototypes with designs similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip.

This rumor of foldable development purportedly stopping at Apple comes after reports surfaced of the company working on two foldable iPhones that would come with a severe thickness reduction compared to the current-gen iPhones we know today. The report from The Information stated these devices could have an exterior screen, and engineers are struggling with implementing the batteries.

Additionally, the report stated Apple engineers are also struggling with removing the crease that's currently present in every foldable device on the market. Apple's high standards for design likely mean the company won't release a foldable device until the crease problem is completely solved. Now, a new rumor from a source that doesn't have a track record but reported by Mac Rumors states Apple has paused development on the foldable devices due to concerns regarding the durability of the devices.

When we think about PC gaming platforms, the most recognizable and talked about is Steam. The last time we got word from Valve about monthly active users (MAU) was in 2021 when it reported that Steam had 132 million monthly active players.

Although it's been a couple of years since we've gotten an update from Valve relating to MAU numbers, Epic Games has just released its 'Epic Games Store 2023 Year in Review' which saw its monthly active users count hit 75 million in December 2023, a 10% increase from 2022.

The Epic Games Store is the home of Fortnite on PC, Rocket League, and other popular online titles like Valorant and League of Legends. It's also a Steam-like storefront with games from various publishers, with free games given away weekly. In fact, throughout 2023, users claimed 'nearly 586 million' free games.

The days of consoles getting substantially cheaper to produce the further into the lifecycle we get are over. It's been a while since we got 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but that's changing - starting this month with the release of the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered for PC and consoles.

Released around this time last year, the Dead Space Remake from EA and Motive Studio presented a faithful built-from-the-ground-up remake of the iconic 2008 sci-fi horror game. With revamped visuals, audio, and various other improvements and updates, it was one of the best games from a stacked 2022 that also saw another iconic horror game get its remake dues with Capcom's Resident Evil 4.

Running on a high-end PC, the Dead Space Remake looks incredible, so it is no surprise that a ray tracing mod for the game also looks great. The video above shows that this uses Complete RT, a Reshade Ray Tracing Mod that adds ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion with volumetric fog and different color grading.

The change to color grading is immediately noticeable, giving the game a cooler blue-toned look, with the ray tracing being a more subtle change you notice during the gameplay sections. Look closely, and you'll see more detail across lighting and shadows, adding to the immersion.

The next-gen Intel Lunar Lake CPUs will be for ultra-low mobile power systems, which will succeed the current-gen Core Ultra 100U "Meteor Lake" CPUs that we've seen deployed since CES 2024 earlier this year. Intel will have its Arrow Lake CPUs hitting the desktop processor market later this year, succeeding the Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs that make up the 14th Gen Core CPU family, while Lunar Lake will enter the low-power laptop market.

The new leak on Intel's upcoming Lunar Lake CPUs sees it in A1 stepping form, with 8 cores and 8 threads (lacking Hyper-Threading), which is something that the Arrow Lake CPU family will also reportedly see (a lack of HT). We see CPU cache sizes here, with 836KB of L1 cache (112KB per P-Core, 96KB per E-Core), 14MB of L2 cache (2.5MB per P-Core, 4MB per four E-Cores), and 12MB of L3 cache in total.

Note: Just to be clear, this new connector is the one NVIDIA is using on its GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series graphics cards -- the updated 12V-2x6 power connector -- which MLID says NVIDIA is mandating on the new GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs.

The delivery speed of NVIDIA AI GPU shipment has been "greatly accelerated," according to UBS analysts; previously, it was taking 8-11 months for deliveries, but now that's been reduced to just 3-4 months.

NVIDIA and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) have greatly increased production capacities, solving the bottleneck issue of advanced CoWoS packaging technology. NVIDIA can now not only clear out its H100 AI GPU inventories, but it can begin pushing more of its beefed-up H200 AI GPU shipments, and upcoming next-gen B100 "Blackwell" AI GPUs that are coming this year.

Another factor in AI GPU shipments increasing from NVIDIA is that recent US export restrictions into China have freed up production capacity for other orders. UBS analysts also believe that the decreased delivery cycle implies that short-term growth of NVIDIA AI GPUs is "close to its peak," so continued growth may be weak... but NVIDIA is expecting its AI GPU shipments to increase 150% year-over-year. CEO Jensen Huang also said that the AI market could be worth $2 trillion over the next 5 years recently at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

This comes from Moore's Law is Dead (MLID), and we need to set a quick bit of background here for the context of this comment on the subject of NVIDIA - as it came as a brief, but interesting, aside, as part of the latest chatter from the rumor mill on Intel's Battlemage GPUs.

Basically, MLID was making it clear that there were certain rumors floating around hyping up Battlemage and that the GPUs could be inbound relatively soon, whereas the YouTuber believes this is not the case at all.

AMD's RX 7900 GRE, the alternative spin on the RX 7900 for China (GRE stands for 'Golden Rabbit Edition') has come to another marketplace - the UK - making a previously rumored US launch look more likely.

If you've been following the tale (or should that be tail?) of the RX 7900 GRE, after the graphics card's launch in China, it went on sale in Europe. As VideoCardz pointed out, the GPU has been on shelves in Germany and Italy, and just cropped up in the UK as TechPowerup noticed.

The UK retailer selling the RX 7900 GRE - which sits just under the 7900 XT - is AWD-IT, but it seems that the XFX model being sold went out of stock quickly. (Even though the pricing wasn't appealing at all - ironic as it was highlighted via a popular UK deals website).

One of those rumors suggested that Apple would choose to change the layout of the back of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to put its two cameras into a vertical orientation. The change would mean ditching the familiar diagonal setup, but it's a switch that is about more than aesthetics and a new leak appears to have confirmed the change is coming.

A new part leak by the X leaker Majin Bu appears to show the chassis that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus cameras will be mounted in and sure enough, they have a vertical orientation. But what makes that so important is the fact that it would put the two cameras in a horizontal orientation when the iPhone is turned on its side - just like the Pro iPhones.

The Apple Vision Pro has now been on sale for a day beyond the two-week return window that would apply to those who bought the headset on launch day which means that people have had to choose whether or not to hand it back. Priced starting from $3,499 there is no doubt that people are unlikely to keep the Apple Vision Pro unless they are sold on it completely, so it was always going to be interesting to see how many people kept it and how many just bought it for launch day clout on social media.

With that in mind, it was interesting to see how many people decided to take their Apple Vision Pro back to the Apple Store before the weekend rolled around while there were plenty of people posting on the X social network, a new report claims that the number of returned headsets isn't as high as you might think.

According to an Apple Insider report, Apple Stores haven't seen all that many new headsets returned before that 14-day return window closed. The report cited sources at 24 mostly US East Coast stores when it said that there doesn't appear to be much in the way of returns. It's "certainly not a cataclysmic flood," we're told.
