Subnautica 2 leaks are real, Krafton confirms milestone review documents are authentic

The new Subnautica 2 leaks are authentic, Krafton has confirmed, revealing key insight into how the publisher assesses internal games projects.

Subnautica 2 leaks are real, Krafton confirms milestone review documents are authentic

New developments have surfaced in the ongoing dispute between Krafton and Subnautica 2's leadership dev team. The controversy has evolved with back-and-forth claims, with Krafton alleging that the devs weren't focused enough, and the ousted Unknown Worlds creators even filing a lawsuit. Krafton, for its part, has issued multiple statements and explanations on what's going on, and even went so far as to confirm that a leaked document is real.

The leak shows an internal review of Subnautica 2's development. The sheet shows that as time went by, core features and content were cut out of Subnautica 2's early access version. Big parts of the game like extra modes were nixed, and 6 hours of narrative content was cut. This is not unusual for the industry--big swaths of content are cut all the time--however there's criticism that Krafton may have been unclear with what it wanted with Subnautica 2.

Krafton responds to Subnautica 2 controversy, publisher explains their side of the story

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jul 13, 2025 11:25 AM CDT

Krafton has released a detailed statement that responds to the recent Subnautica 2 controversy.

Krafton responds to Subnautica 2 controversy, publisher explains their side of the story

The Subnautica situation appears to be heating up. Krafton recently fired three key members of Subnautica 2's dev team, including studio co-founder Max McGuire. Things accelerated when it was revealed that Krafton may have had to pay a $250 million bonus payout to Unknown Worlds if revenue targets were met, but that's unlikely now that Subnautica 2 has been delayed into 2026. Krafton caught a lot of flak for the decision, and the former developers are actually suing Krafton because of what happened.

Now Krafton has issued a response to explain their side of the story. The publisher alleges that the former developers essentially weren't completely on board with Subnautica 2, and that early access was delayed because the game simply didn't yet have enough meat on its bones to substantiate a release.

Subnautica developers sue Krafton for replacing entire Subnautica 2 leadership team

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jul 13, 2025 9:52 AM CDT

Unknown Worlds developers are suing Krafton over the recent Subnautica 2 controversy, former game director Charlie Cleveland announced on Twitter.

Subnautica developers sue Krafton for replacing entire Subnautica 2 leadership team

Recently, Krafton, the South Korean games company that owns PUBG, shocked the industry by ousting Subnautica 2's leadership team. Unknown Worlds CEO Ted Gill, studio co-founder Max McGuire, and Subnautica 2 game director Charlie Cleveland were let go by Krafton, replaced by Steve Papoutsis from sister studio Striking Distance.

The decision sparked major controversy in the Subnautica community, and both Krafton and Unknown Worlds are dealing with the fallout. It's now been revealed that the former Subnautica devs have banded together to collectively sue Krafton, Inc., but the exact details of the legal complaint remain unclear.

PlayStation 6 performance estimates: double PS5 Pro, RTX 4090 or faster performance

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jul 12, 2025 11:55 PM CDT

Sony's next-generation PlayStation 6 console should be twice as fast as the beefed-up PS5 Pro, and should have performance close to, or more, than the RTX 4090.

PlayStation 6 performance estimates: double PS5 Pro, RTX 4090 or faster performance

Tom from Moore's Law is Dead talked about the new PlayStation 6 performance estimates in his latest video, where he was asked a question from a viewer about the performance of the PS6, and where he thinks it'll end up. This lines up with everything we've heard so far, with AMD deploying its new UDNA GPU architecture that'll power the PS6, as well as a much higher-end Zen 5 CPU (PS5 + PS5 Pro use the Zen 2 architecture).

We should expect to have 4K 120FPS and even 8K 60FPS gaming on the PS6, with 8K 60FPS gaming being made possible through PSSR upscaling technology, and the much more powerful UDNA architecture from AMD. The new PlayStation 6 is rumored to be 20% faster in rasterization, and 2x faster in both RT (ray tracing) and AI according to rumors from leaker KeplerL2 just last month.

AMD is aiming for an insane 7.0GHz or more clock speed with its next-gen Zen 6-based Ryzen CPUs

AMD is reportedly targeting 7.0GHz or higher boost CPU clock speeds for its next-gen Zen 6-based Ryzen CPUs on the desktop, according to new leaks.

AMD is aiming for an insane 7.0GHz or more clock speed with its next-gen Zen 6-based Ryzen CPUs

In his latest video, Tom from Moore's Law is Dead updates us on his latest insider information suggesting that AMD is "definitely achieving" at least 6.4GHz on Zen 6, while their goal is 7.0GHz, while that 7.0GHz CPU clock is "in the middle" of what AMD is trying to achieve with Zen 6.

AMD's next-gen Zen 6 "Olympic Ridge" desktop AM5 processors clocking in at over 7.0GHz would be a huge deal for the entire market: AMD the company itself, PC gamers, performance enthusiasts, and as another nail into Intel's CPU coffin. Olympic Ridge will arrive on AM5, which is another win for AMD as it won't be forcing consumers into a new chipset and motherboard, unlike Intel's next-gen processors.

Report: Krafton delays Subnautica 2 to avoid $250 million bonus payout to developers

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jul 12, 2025 9:40 AM CDT

Billion-dollar video game maven Krafton has delayed Subnautica 2's release right before a $250 million payout bonus was to be issued, leading to controversy and industry-wide rifts.

Report: Krafton delays Subnautica 2 to avoid $250 million bonus payout to developers

Krafton recently made a radical decision that made headlines. The publisher ousted Subnautica 2's executive leadership team, pushing three key people out of the Unknown Worlds team, including studio co-founder Max McGuire. Krafton appointed a new CEO of Unknown Worlds to ensure the studio delivered timely build updates for an eventual release.

Now it's been revealed that Subnautica 2's early access period has been delayed to 2026. The timing is suspect, with new reports from Bloomberg indicating that Krafton delayed the game just months before the company would have paid a $250 million bonus to developers. When Krafton bought Unknown Worlds in 2021, a clause in the acquisition contract outlined a bonus payout structure if certain milestones were hit throughout 2025--e.g. if the team could make X amount of revenue by the end of 2025, they'd get a substantial $250 million payout.

Apple reportedly delays M5 MacBook Pro to 2026, meaning OLED MacBook Pro with M6 hits in 2027

Anthony Garreffa | Laptops | Jul 11, 2025 11:19 PM CDT

Apple was originally slated to release its new M5-powered MacBook Pro laptops later this year, but new information suggests the company has delayed the launch of its new MacBook Pros until 2026.

Apple reportedly delays M5 MacBook Pro to 2026, meaning OLED MacBook Pro with M6 hits in 2027

In his latest Power On newsletter on Bloomberg, Mark Gurman writes that according to "people with knowledge of the matter", Apple is working on upgraded MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs, and that these new M5-powered laptops were to be released later this year, but Apple is "considering pushing them back to 2026".

The delay of the new M5-powered MacBook Pros and Airs is because Apple wants to get back to more consistent revenue growth following this fall's iPhone launch. Gurman explains: "After a pandemic-fueled sales surge in the early part of the decade, Apple has suffered from spottier demand the past two years. A slower rollout of new models - including iPads - contributed to the slump".

Intel CEO admits: 'we are not in the top 10 semiconductor companies' anymore

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Jul 11, 2025 5:05 PM CDT

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan told employees this week that he doesn't consider Intel among the world's leading chip companies, saying: "Twenty, 30 years ago, we are really the leader. Now I think the world has changed. We are not in the top 10 semiconductor companies".

Intel CEO admits: 'we are not in the top 10 semiconductor companies' anymore

The company is too far behind to catch up with NVIDIA in developing technology to train AI, with the new CEO saying that customers are giving Intel failing grades, and that a turnaround for Intel would be a "marathon". Tan said that the recent layoffs that he ordered are a move to make Intel more like its chip-making rivals NVIDIA, AMD, and Broadcom. Tan said "we have to be humble" and that Intel staff need to listen to customers, and respond to their needs.

Intel has a market cap of only $100 billion right now, and if you compare that to NVIDIA, which recently hit a milestone $4 trillion market cap, Intel is not just behind, it's almost like a sinking ship in comparison. Intel replaced its CEO Pat Gelsinger, falling radically behind AMD in the CPU business, and has failed the AI business and left it to NVIDIA.

AMD still rumored with high-end 'multi-chiplet' Radeon GPU, could debut with UDNA architecture

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jul 11, 2025 3:33 PM CDT

AMD has been rumored for quite a while that it was working on a multi-chiplet gaming GPU, with a new patent fueling these rumors in the battle of GPUs against NVIDIA.

AMD still rumored with high-end 'multi-chiplet' Radeon GPU, could debut with UDNA architecture

In a new video shared by coreteks, we're hearing that AMD has recently secured a new multi-chiplet GPU patent that could solve the latency issues using a 'Smart Switch'. MCM (Multi-Chiplet Module) isn't new, as they're used outside of the gaming GPU market, but there are limitations of monolithic GPU designs that MCM can solve.

AMD used an MCM design approach for its Instinct MI200 series AI accelerators, stacking multiple chiplets onto a single package, including the GPCs (Graphics Processing Cores), HBM memory stack, and the I/O die. However, AMD used a different approach with its Instinct MI350 series AI chips, and this could be the foundation of its multi-chiplet-based consumer gaming GPUs according to coreteks in his new video.

DDR5 OC world record broken again with G.SKILL Trident Z5 RAM at 12872MT/s on ASUS Z890 mobo

It was only a couple of months ago in May 2025 that overclocker "bl4ckdot" hit a record at the time with 12774MT/s, but now the overclocker is back with another world record, hitting 12872MT/s. The overclocker holds his world record for the highest DDR5 memory speed once again, using Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor and ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex motherboard, a combo used multiple times for DDR5 memory speed world records.

LN2 cooling was used to chill the system down, with bl4ckdot using G.SKILL Trident Z5 DDR5 memory at 12872MT/s (6431.1MHz) and cache latencies of CL68-127-127-127-2. HWBOT now lists bl4ckdot at the top, with overclocker "saltycroissant" in second place, with both of the overclockers being the only two to have broken through the 6400MHz barrier on HWBOT's Memory Frequency Hall of Fame.
