Nintendo Switch 2 hidden Summer feature cools your face while gaming
The Nintendo Switch 2 has made it into the hands of millions of gamers, and some of those gamers are trying to enjoy their new console out in the summer heat. But what if you need a fan to keep your face cool while gaming? One Nintendo Switch 2 user has found a neat trick that is honestly quite impressive.
Reddit user Gamingjojo909 took to the /r/NintendoSwitch subreddit to share an image of a recent discovery they made: the Nintendo Switch 2's top USB-C port is able to power a portable fan. Gamingjojo909 wrote, "Just discovered you can plug a fan in the Switch 2's top USB-C port to cool off on a warm summer day."
Not a bad idea at all, especially if you are outside and trying to catch some rays while enjoying your new console. It remains unclear how much faster the Nintendo Switch 2 battery drains with a fan plugged into the top USB-C port, but that problem can be easily solved with a portable power bank or dedicated power. With discoveries such as this, it makes me wonder what other handy devices can be plugged into the top USB-C port on the Nintendo Switch 2 and actually benefit the gaming experience.

US government greenlights NVIDIA selling GPUs to Chinese customers
NVIDIA has announced that the US government has granted the company approval for selling GPUs to Chinese customers, following the US ban on the sale of high-end GPUs over fears that China would use them to advance military operations and get a leg up in the global AI arms race.
NVIDIA attempted to work around those initial bans set by the US government by introducing new GPUs specifically designed within the parameters set by the US government, which meant these China-destined models had underpowered hardware.
One of those GPUs was the H20, which NVIDIA specifically designed for sales to China and was granted approval by US authorities to begin shipments. However, the US government reversed its decision and blocked the H20 by no longer issuing export permits for it. This decision cost NVIDIA $10 billion in sales.

Report: Bethesda's Destiny-like MMO was cancelled so devs can focus on Fallout 5
Fallout 5 has reportedly been greenlit at Microsoft, but another game may have been sacrificed to free up resources for the new Fallout game.
There are rumors that Xbox is working on multiple Fallout projects right now, including a potential Fallout 3 Remake. With 10 years in between mainline games, fans are looking forward to Fallout 5 the most, yet Bethesda's Todd Howard has confirmed that Elder Scrolls 6 has priority.
Now there are new reports that Microsoft may have shelved another ZeniMax/Bethesda project in order to make way for Fallout. Sources tell Windows Central's Jez Corden (via Xbox Two podcast) that Microsoft essentially cancelled ZeniMax's MMORPG project codenamed Blackbird, and moved the resources and investment from Blackbird over to Fallout.
SK hynix supplies 'early' HBM4 samples, testing will take longer than HBM3E for AI chip makers
SK hynix started supplying its next-gen HBM4 memory in March 2025, but they are "early" versions of its HBM4, with qualification tests expected to take longer than the same tests for HBM3E.
The reason for HBM4 qualification tests taking longer is due to generational changes from HBM3E, where HBM3E memory samples were sent in a nearly complete state. SK hynix sent over HBM3E samples to its clients in August 2023, with mass production starting in March 2024, just 7 months between sample supply and mass production.
HBM4 in its early state will require modifications, with projections that it could take longer than 7 months, with increased technical difficulty with the generational changes cited as a factor that could extend the qualification testing period. The number of I/O terminals for HBM4 has doubled from HBM3E (2048 for HBM4, 1024 for HBM3E). Additionally, HBM4 -- for the first time in this generation -- has the logic die (base die) produced at a foundry (TSMC).
Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S26 series in three variants: 6.27-inch, 6.66-inch, 6.89-inch
Samsung only just released its new foldable smartphones with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, but the company is hard at work on its next-gen Galaxy S26 family of smartphones that sees the company dropping the Galaxy S26 Plus from the fray.
In a new report from South Korean outlet TheElec, we're hearing that Samsung's new Galaxy S26 family of handsets will include the standard Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Edge, and flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphones. As for the display sizes, we're to expect 6.27 inches for the standard Galaxy S26, a bigger 6.66-inch display for the S26 Edge, and the flagship S26 Ultra with a 6.89-inch display.
An official from the parts industry told TheElec: "Two domestic companies, Korea Circuit and DAP, are developing more than half of these nine boards as first vendors," adding, "FastPrint is also developing some boards as a first vendor, but the proportion of boards it is developing as a second vendor has increased".
Rumor: Halo CE remake is campaign only with no multiplayer, and may come to PlayStation 5
2001's Halo Combat Evolved is reportedly getting a remake, but it may not have any sort of multiplayer mode.
A bit ago, 343 Industries rebranded as Halo Studios, shut down the Slipspace Engine project, and confirmed multiple new Halo games were in development. Then just a few weeks ago, the developers strongly teased that one of these new games would be revealed at this year's Halo World Championships in October.
Rumor has it that one of these games is actually a Halo CE remake. Next year, Xbox turns 25, and Microsoft may be celebrating in a big way with a new game in the classic series. There's just one potential drawback: the Halo CE remake might not have multiplayer.

Nintendo to discontinue Game Voucher program in January 2026
As costs continue to rise, Nintendo announces that it is officially discontinuing its Game Vouchers program in early 2026.
Nintendo is shutting down its Game Vouchers savings program on January 30, 2026, the company has announced. The move comes shortly after Nintendo kicked off a new $80 price point for Switch 2 games, leading the rest of the industry to follow suit and charge $80 for new games.
The reality is that Nintendo loses money on the Game Vouchers program, at least insofar as game sales revenues. Switch Online is required to even buy the Game Vouchers, but users can save around $20, paying a total of $100 for two Switch games rather than $120. Nintendo is already selling the Switch 2 at a lower profit margin than its predecessor, and the company has also said that global tariffs will drop its profits by tens of billions of yen.

Chinese tech companies have reportedly placed orders for hundreds of thousands of units -- orders of over $1 billion -- in late-June, with deliveries expected in August.
Another large Chinese tech company reportedly plans to increase its Q3 2025 capital expenditure and intends to order 300,000 orders of NVIDIA's new B30 AI GPU, with a delivery schedule for September.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 96-core CPU could hit pre-order next week at an eye-watering $13,000
AMD's Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9000 processors are apparently set to kick off pre-orders next week, and the top-end HEDT chip could run a lot more expensive than its predecessor.
Indeed, if this speculation is correct, the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9995WX CPU with a whopping 96-cores could tip the scales at $13,000.
The pre-order date of July 23 is what's listed by B&H Photo as flagged by @momomo_us on X (see the above post).
ASUS accidentally leaked the prices for the Xbox Ally and Ally X
Portable console gaming has exploded since the release of the Nintendo Switch, with Nintendo's console spawning a whole new market of portable gaming consoles that Microsoft doesn't want to miss the boat on.
With Valve releasing the Steam Deck in 2022 and getting a more than positive reception from that product, Microsoft is scrambling to enter the portable handheld market with its own consoles. However, they won't be consoles, nor made exclusively by Microsoft's gaming brand, Xbox. Instead, the devices will be handheld PCs made by ASUS with Xbox branding.
Microsoft needs to hurry up and get competitive in the portable gaming market or else it will lose to the expanding SteamOS platform, and to be competitive it needs to get the portable version of Windows 11 in as many hands as possible.

Silicon Power's Hypera microSD card offers up to 1TB of Nintendo Switch 2 storage
With the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, one of the best new features of the latest generation of Switch hardware is the boost you get from its internal storage. This not only ensures that games can stream data faster for improved performance, but it also dramatically improves loading times. The downside is that storage expansion is limited to fast microSD Express memory cards.
These faster microSD cards are still relatively new, meaning there aren't that many options out there, with most being sold for prices that are a lot higher than the standard microSD cards you could slot into an original Nintendo Switch console. Well, the good news is that new microSD Express memory cards are being announced at a regular clip, which should help bring the storage expansion costs down as the Switch 2 enters its first holiday season.
The latest comes from the storage experts at Silicon Power, with its new Hypera microSD Express memory card. With PCIe Gen 3x1 and NVMe technology, Hypera microSD Express memory cards can reach data transfer speeds of up to 880 MB/sec, which is up to eight times faster than standard microSD cards.
Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster might be coming soon to PS5
There have been rumors circulating for a while now that Rockstar was planning to re-release its western opus, Red Dead Redemption 2, for current-gen platforms like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. It looks like it might be on the cards very soon, as someone spotted an interesting note over on the support page for Red Dead Online.
As seen on Reddit (via GamingBible), Rockstar added an "online migration" option to its list of potential issues for gamers, which is something that was added to its GTA Online support page for the release of Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced. Once spotted, the option was removed from the site, suggesting that Rockstar accidentally leaked that it's preparing to release Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced for consoles.
Outside of the still impressive PC version of the game, console gamers are limited to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Red Dead Redemption 2. With the enhanced visuals of the PC version and an improved 60 FPS mode, there's a definite case for Rockstar updating its open-world western for consoles. This could also pave the way for the game to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Radeon RX 9070 GRE benchmarked, close to 30% faster than the Radeon RX 9060 XT
The new Radeon RX 9070 GRE or Golden Radeon Edition is currently exclusive to the Asian market, specifically China, as the fourth RDNA 4 offering from AMD. Spec-wise, it sits in between the new mainstream Radeon RX 9060 XT and the baseline Radeon RX 9070, with the 9070 GRE shipping with 48 Compute Units, a Boost Clock speed of 2790 MHz, and 12GB of GDDR6 memory on a 192-bit bus.
Currently, there's no official confirmation that the Radeon RX 9070 GRE will make its way to more global markets, but this has happened with prior GRE releases, where AMD releases them first in China before rolling them out to western markets months later.
That hasn't stopped German outlet Computer Base from getting their hands on a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 9070 GRE and benchmarking its performance against the latest generation of mainstream GPUs, and more, from NVIDIA and AMD. With 20+ games tested, it's a comprehensive look at the new GPU's performance, which just so happens to present a massive improvement over the Radeon RX 9060 XT.

All features and customization are supported via the Naya Flow app, which has been designed for ease of use and drag-and-drop functionality.
GeForce RTX 40 Series owners are getting access to NVIDIA's new Smooth Motion tech
NVIDIA's Smooth Motion technology was released earlier this year, a driver-based Frame Generation solution similar to AMD's Fluid Motion Frames in that it doesn't require game integration, like DLSS. Initially, this new feature was exclusive to the latest GeForce RTX 50 Series of graphics cards, but that's changing in an upcoming driver release.
The feature was spotted in the latest GeForce 590.26 Preview Driver for developers, which includes support for enabling Smooth Motion on GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards. Although Smooth Motion doesn't require game integration like DLSS Frame Generation, it still utilizes the AI hardware in GeForce RTX GPUs for generating its additional frame.
Smooth Motion, like Frame Generation, is all about improving the performance of a game by generating a new frame in between traditionally rendered frames. This improves the overall smoothness of the presentation, giving the impression and effect of doubling or substantially boosting performance.
Report: Microsoft pays up to $50 million per game when making Game Pass deals
Running Game Pass isn't cheap, and Microsoft pays up to $50 million to license games content for the subscription service.
Xbox Game Pass has been in the headlines lately, with lots of speculation swirling around the service's profitability. While Microsoft has said repeatedly that Game Pass is profitable, and we've been able to ascertain Game Pass revenues, no one has been able to figure out actual profits due to uncertain operational costs. Now we have a better idea of how much money it costs to operate and maintain a service like Game Pass.
According to ex-Xbox business manager Iain MacIntyre, who had actually discovered Vampire Survivors and had been laid off as part of Microsoft's 9,000-employee layoff spree, Microsoft will pay anywhere from $50,000 to $50 million in game licensing deals to secure content for Game Pass.
Capcom: Mega Man is still very important, fans in the West ask about franchise often
Capcom tells investors that the Mega Man franchise plays a key role for the company--could a new release be on the way?
In a recent meeting with shareholders, Capcom executive management was asked point blank about Mega Man and what's next for the franchise. It's been 7 years since the last mainline Mega Man game with 2018's Mega Man 11, and fans (who also happen to be shareholders) want to know if new games are on the way.
While Capcom didn't confirm a new Mega Man game, the company did reiterate its overall stance on the 38-year-old franchise. Mega Man is important, Capcom says, echoing previous statements about wanting to take "great care" in making new Mega Man games. The numbers reinforce Capcom's assertions: Mega Man is the company's fourth best-selling video game franchise of all time with 43 million unit sales.
