Ghost of Yōtei story is extremely similar to Assassin's Creed Shadows, but already better?
PlayStation has just wrapped up its 20-minute gameplay deep dive into the spiritual successor to Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch, the developer of the title, has shared a thorough look at Ghost of Yōtei, revealing what players can expect when the game releases in October this year.
Ghost of Yōtei will feature a brand new protagonist called Atsu, who is described by Sucker Punch as a "wrathful ghost bent on revenge". Sucker Punch goes on to say that Atsu "doesn't care if she lives or dies" so long as she can take revenge on the Yōtei Six, a gang of ruthless individuals that slaughtered her family when she was younger. Players will be stepping into the shoes of Atsu 16 years after the death of her family as she embarks on a journey to take out each of the members of the Yōtei Six.
Within the first 3 minutes of the gameplay deep dive, we are given the above premise, which is extremely similar to the premise in Assassin's Creed: Shadows. Here's how they are similar. In Assassin's Creed: Shadows, players can play as Naoe, the daughter of Fujibayashi Nagato, the leader of the Iga clan.

Apple might decide to hold back its next-gen MacBook Pro and Air models with the M5 chip until 2026, a fresh rumor suggests.
This is from a regular contributor of Apple-related rumors, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who cites the usual anonymous sources providing some new details on the next Macs.
We're told that the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air M5 were originally due for a 2025 release, as has been the chatter on the grapevine so far, but that Apple is now 'considering' delaying the release of those notebooks to 2026. No reason is given for why this might be happening.
Alienware unveils two new high refresh rate monitors aimed at cinematic and competitive gamers
Dell has taken to its social media account for Alienware to unveil two new gaming monitor offerings, one is a fast-paced IPS display, and the other is QD-OLED. Both are targeting competitive and cinematic gamers alike.
Dell's gaming brand "Alienware" has unveiled the AW2525HM and AW2725D priced at $250 and $550, respectively. Starting off with the AW2525HM, Alienware has equipped this 25-inch display with a Fast IPS panel that provides a 1ms GtG / 0.5ms GtG response time, a 320Hz refresh rate, and a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. The AW2525HM has a 99% sRGB color gamut, a native contrast ratio of 1,000:1, and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. As for connectivity, the AW2525HM sports 2x HDMI 2.1 ports, 1x DisplayPort 1.
Additionally, the AW2525HM has 1x USB 5Gbps Type-B upstream port, 1x USB 5Gbps Type-A downstream port, 1x USB 5Gbps Type-A downstream port with BC1.2 power charging. Moving to the AW2725D, this 27-inch QD-OLED model is more than double the price of the AW2525HM, but is aimed at gamers looking for a more premium experience. The AW2725D features Quantum Dot OLED panel technology, which provides a super-low response time of 0.03ms GtG. The AW2725D has an increased resolution of 2560 x 1440p, but a slower refresh rate of 280Hz.
GameStop stapler that ruined a Switch 2 display is up for auction, price already at $217,000
When the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, an incident occurred in which a GameStop employee stapled some customer receipts to the Switch 2 boxes. A seemingly normal task for a retail store, but unfortunately, without a protection layer between the cardboard and the Switch 2 display, this GameStop stapler ended up puncturing holes into displays, affecting multiple customers.
With the issue being reported on Reddit, the story spread rapidly, and the problems were quickly resolved for those affected. As part of a new GameStop Staplegate Charity Auction, with the funds raised going to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the infamous GameStop stapler, the first "stapled Nintendo Switch 2" console, the box, and even the staple (which has been "carefully extracted and preserved") are up for grabs.
As of writing, the current bid is just over $217,000 for this rare collector's item, which comes with a certificate of authenticity. It's a lot of money to pay for a Switch 2 console and a stapler, but the money is going to a good cause.
SK hynix to change wafer cutting for HBM4 memory and 400-layer NAND flash, pushing new limits
SK hynix is reportedly changing its wafer cutting process for next-generation memory manufacturing, paving the way for its new HBM4 and 400-layer and higher NAND flash memory as they become increasingly thin, pushing existing processes to their absolute limits.
In a new story from ETnews picked up by insider @Jukanrosleve on X, industry sources have said that SK hynix plans to introduce femto-second grooving and full-cut processes for HBM4 wafer cutting. The news was confirmed by the South Korean memory manufacturer in discussing a Joint Evaluation Project (JEP) for new wafer cutting equipment with laser equipment partners.
It's reported that technology tests are already underway with some partners, with an industry official saying: "SK hynix is planning a major change to its existing wafer cutting methods and is discussing numerous technical solutions with partners".

In a new report published by the Financial Times picked up by insider @Jukanrosleve on X, we're hearing that the NVIDIA B30 AI GPU not being sold before September is because NVIDIA asked for prior assurance from the Trump administration that it wouldn't be breaching the new US export regulations, and then seeing its new B30 banned after it is introduced.
NVIDIA's new B30 AI GPU specifications could change before now and September, depending on its discussions with the US government, and if the specifications change, Jukan says that it might primarily involve enabling NVLink. The new B30 AI GPU is rumored to have NVLink disabled, making it more of a modified RTX PRO 6000 workstation GPU (as it doesn't have HBM, and uses GDDR7 instead).

The $200M compensation package from Meta is for Pang to work in its new superintelligence labs, with a base salary, signing bonus, and Meta shares. The stocks issued to Pang are the biggest part of his package, but we don't have a percentage breakdown to see where that $200 million went.

Google's new Tensor G5 processor has single-core and multi-core scores leaked from new Geekbench benchmarks, with 2276 points in single-core, and 6175 points in multi-core testing. This makes the new Tensor G5 up to 36% faster than the current Tensor G4, showing some impressive gains using TSMC's second-generation 3nm process node.
AMD's next-gen Zen 6 CPU samples are in the wild, more CPU cores, new 'dual' IMC design teased
AMD's next-generation Zen 6 processor samples have been distributed according to new leaks, with new details on the next-gen Zen 6 chips teased.
In a new post from the creator of Hydra tuning software, Yuri Bubily aka 1usmus, shared some new details on AMD's next-gen Zen 6 processors on the official Discord for Hydra. He said that engineering samples of AMD's next-gen Zen 6-based Ryzen CPU have been distributed, also saying that the new Zen 6 core architecture will be an 'evolution' of Zen 5, and not a 'revolution'.
AMD is adding more CPU cores per CCD, something we heard in previous leaks -- where we can expect up to 24 cores and 48 threads of Zen 6 processing power, and much more cache (up to 48MB per CCD, with previous leaks from Moore's Law is Dead teasing up to 240MB of 2-Hi X3D cache).

Chinese monitor manufacturer KTC has just launched its new budget gaming monitor with the introduction of the H24F7, offering 1080p 240Hz for under $100.
The new KTC H24F7 gaming monitor features a 23.8-inch panel with a native 1920 x 1080 (1080p) resolution and super-smooth 240Hz refresh rate, launching in China for 599 yuan, which works out to $84 USD. There are competing gaming monitors on the market with 1080p @ 144Hz or even 180Hz for $100, but this looks to be the first 1080p @ 240Hz gaming monitor for under $100.
KTC's new H24F7 gaming monitor should feature an IPS panel, and what looks like super-thin bezels. We've got a 2ms GtG response time, so that $84 price tag is very compelling. The new KTC H24F7 gaming monitor offers 116% sRGB color space, with up to 400 nits of brightness, but no height adjustment on the stand, we'd expect that for a gaming monitor priced at under $100.

Apple could let you send money without unlocking your phone, but there's a catch
Tech companies are always looking for ways to improve the value of their ecosystem, and these improvements typically come in the form of new features intended to reduce the time spent on menial tasks. In a nutshell, convenience upgrades.
Apple has filed a new patent that resembles one of these upgrades, and it involves letting users perform secure voice commands through Siri, which includes granting the AI the ability to send money to other people, or even private data. Here's how it works. A locked iPhone, or any other applicable Apple device, such as an Apple Watch, is listening for natural language input. Siri is then triggered and detects a request similar to this, "Pay Mike $30".
Siri determines if this prompt is a sensitive task by performing a series of checks. If the checks are passed, Siri will then run a pre-authenticated connected accessory through a set of criteria, which includes measuring proximity, recent verification of the device, and secure pairing with the device. If all criteria are met, Siri will then carry out the sensitive task without requiring the user to perform a FaceID scan or enter a passcode. Once the task is completed, Siri provides confirmation via a voice or visual output prompt.
McDonald's AI chatbot for hiring is compromised in embarrassing fashion with '123456' password
We're all familiar with the passwords that should never, ever be used - like 'password' for example - but people still employ such cringeworthy efforts, and so do big organizations, it seems.
In this case, as TechSpot reports, a security researcher, Ian Carroll, managed to gain access to an admin account for the McHire platform, used to facilitate recruitment for McDonald's. It does this using a chatbot (Olivia) made by Paradox.ai.
Carroll achieved this when looking at the portal for McDonald's restaurant owners to log in to view their applicants, where there was also a link for Paradox.ai staff to log in. Clicking through to the latter, and using '123456' for both the user and password allowed a successful sign-in - to the researcher's disbelief - but only to a sample restaurant and related details (for internal testing).
Scientists create mind-controlled bees straight out of The Last of Us
Researchers from the Beijing Institute of Technology have created the world's lightest insect brain controller and injected it into bees.
A report from the South China Morning Post reveals that the scientists behind this technology believe that fleets of mind-controlled insects could be used to scout areas and help disaster relief operations. How does it work? Researchers developed a device that plugs directly into the brain of a bee via three microscopic needles.
Scientists then use electronic pulses sent through the needles to control the direction the bees fly, and according to research published in the Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, the bees obeyed these commands 90% of the time.

Steam's entire library could be yours in 47 seconds with Japan's world record internet speed
What if you wanted to download your entire Steam Library, or perhaps the entire Steam Store? How long would it take you on your home internet connection? Weeks? Possibly years? Maybe even a decade? Japan could do it in a matter of seconds with their new insane internet speed that has broken the world record.
Researchers at Japan's National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) broke the world record for the fastest internet speed by transmitting data a staggering 1.02 petabits per second, which, for those who don't know and understandably so, a petabit is, that's 1,020,000 gigabits per second. You could imagine this speed as seeing your download at 127,500,000 Megabytes per second (MB/s), or 127,500 GB/s. Yes, that is correct. 127,500 gigabytes per second download speed.
How was this speed achieved? NICT used standard-sized fiber optic cables that are typically used in many homes around the world, but the difference was that they were equipped with four cores and over 50 different wavelengths of light to transmit data. To add even more impressive statistics to this achievement, researchers were able to maintain this speed over 51.7 kilometers (32.12 miles), making these kind of speeds feasible for real-world infrastructure.

AMD confirms it has CPU vulnerabilities akin to Meltdown and Spectre
AMD has disclosed a new class of security vulnerabilities in its CPUs, which the company has addressed in a new technical paper outlining strategies to mitigate the vulnerabilities that affect AMD Ryzen, Threadripper, Athlon, Instinct, and EPYC CPUs.
The vulnerabilities have been dubbed Transient Scheduler Attack (TSA), which is a type of attack that doesn't attack the software directly but instead leaks information by observing the hardware's behavior, such as how long it takes the hardware to complete a certain task. These are called side-channel attacks.
TSA is similar to infamous security vulnerabilities such as Meltdown and Spectre, which exploited how CPUs optimize performance using a technique called speculative execution, which involves the CPU predicting what instructions it might need next and starting to execute them before it's sure they are actually required.
