Some years ago, Elon Musk laid out his ambitious plan to get humans on Mars and eventually colonize the Red Planet.

To achieve this monumental task, Musk has poured millions of dollars into research and development of Starship, a rocket that is made up of two parts - the Super Heavy booster and the Starship spacecraft. The lower stage, or the booster, measures in at an astonishing height of 230 feet, and when paired with the Starship spacecraft, which is 164 feet tall, it creates the world's largest rocket at a ridiculous 394 feet.

The sheer size of Starship is hard to grasp, but Musk is determined to reach the goal SpaceX has set out to achieve. In response to a question asking Musk how he plans on getting large quantities of humans to the Red Planet, Musk said that he would construct 1,000+ Starships and essentially create a "very modern Noah's Ark/s". So, where are we currently in Musk's plan?

DDR5 memory is slowly getting cheaper, with prices of DDR5 memory dropping 20% in the last month alone according to ComputerBase.

ComputerBase has been keeping a close eye on DDR5 memory pricing, with DDR5-4800 memory dropping down to under 5 EUR per gigabyte: 20% cheaper over the last month alone. ComputerBase has an awesome price tracker, that includes over 200 different DDR5 memory kits, with the standard 32GB DDR5-4800 desktop SO-DIMM kit (the JEDEC standard) costing 154 EUR, down from nearly 450 EUR at the start of the year, and down from 250+ EUR in February and March 2022.

The site also noticed price drops for U-DIMM memory, with 16GB modules of DDR5 memory -- Kingston DDR5-4800 memory for example, in a single 16GB DIMM -- costs 42 EUR. This is a huge reduction as well, as it was 99 EUR back in February.

Elon Musk says that he has a "super bad feeling" about the economy, and that Tesla staffers will be laid off -- about 10% of salaried staff -- according to Reuters, that is.

The outlet reports that Elon said these things in emails seen by Reuters, and that a letter to executives on Thursday last week "laid out his concerns" and told them to "pause all hiring worldwide". The story continues, with Reuters reporting another email was flown out on Friday saying that Tesla will be reducing salaried headcount by 10%, as it has become "overstaffed in many areas" but "hourly headcount will increase".

Elon continued in the email seen by Reuters: "Note, this does not apply to anyone actually building cars, battery packs or installing solar".

I don't know if I'd call this a "real" card as it would be a dud that wouldn't work, wouldn't have final hardware, and probably wouldn't even turn on. We just get a look at what the card might look like if it's ever released because right now it's the Duke Nukem Forever of graphics cards.

Intel had its dual-fan Alchemist ACM-G10 GPU "on display" with the full 32 Xe-Core setup, which should have 16GB of GDDR6 memory when it launches. You can also see that it has an 8+6-pin power connector setup, and I'm sure this part won't change when Intel eventually launches its Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs.

Intel's next family of CPUs that drops later this year is the new 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" CPUs, but after that we have the 14th Gen Core "Meteor Lake" CPUs that reportedly come on a new socket.

The new Intel 14th Gen Core "Meteor Lake" CPUs will reportedly have a new LGA 2551 socket, measuring in at 38mm x 46mm with the new socket being "only slightly bigger in actual footprint compared to Alder Lake's LGA 1700" says leaker Tom @ Moore's Law is Dead.

Intel's new LGA 2551 socket wouldn't be much bigger than LGA 1700, but it craps all over the LGA 1700 socket in terms of pin count: 50% more pins. MLID also posted a real photo of an alleged LGA 2551 processor, so we can see those 2551 pins in all their glory.

Elon Musk is back in the headlines with another controversial topic: "overpopulation" which is another thing that I fully agree with him on.

In a new article headlined "Demographers Warn of Impending Population Collapse" from The Epoch Times, Emel Akan shared it on Twitter, tweeting: "According to @elonmusk, the greatest challenge the world will face in 20 years is population collapse. This is an excellent article that explains the causes of population decline and why it is problematic".

Elon replied, tweeting: "Earth could sustain many times its current human population and the ecosystem would be fine. We definitely don't have 'too many people'".

NVIDIA's next-gen GeForce RTX 4060 is going to be a powerhouse compared to the regular x060 series GPU from NVIDIA, but I thought that was obvious by now.

If the new GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card is going to be twice as fast as the GeForce RTX 3090, then we'd expect the GeForce RTX 4060 to be twice as fast as the GeForce RTX 3060... right? Architecture improvements, faster VRAM, more power, tweaks everywhere else... the benefits would be there for all SKUs.

But in a new tweet, leaker "kopite7kimi" says that the GeForce RTX 4060 would be using more power than the RTX 3070, which isn't so shocking -- given I prefaced this article with the fact that we are to expect the GeForce RTX 4060 to be twice as fast as the GeForce RTX 3060 -- so surely it'll use more power, and tip over the RTX 3070 TDP.

SEGA is interested in making Saturn and Dreamcast mini consoles, but the costs are way too high.

SEGA just announced the Mega Drive Mini 2, a new mini console that packs in more Genesis-era and even some SEGA CD games. So what's next on the horizon? A SEGA Saturn mini, or maybe even a Dreamcast Classic re-release? Maybe...once chip production costs start to drop.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, SEGA producer Yosuke Okunari confirms that his team looked into recreating Dreamcast and Saturn micro-consoles but the projects fizzled out early on because they would be too expensive to manufacture because chips are so scarce.

The Old Net.com opens up a temporal wormhole to a distant time far ago--a time when games were feature-complete at launch, and a time when 3D was brand new. It was November 1996, the Nintendo 64 had released months ago, and we just got to see a prototype in-development version of Ocarina of Time at Nintendo Space World in Shoshinkai, Japan. Ah, those were the days.

Using the Old Net website, I was able to travel down a little rabbit hole to the past and uncover some interesting Zelda 64 screenshots from 1996, which was two years before Ocarina of Time launched. It's a fascinating look at one of the best games ever made before it was technically one of the best games ever made, and honestly, the prototype doesn't look much different than the final game.

NASA recently selected the two companies it would be sourcing new spacesuits from for its upcoming missions.

The two companies selected by NASA are Axiom Space and Collins Aerospace, which when announced was not accompanied by any design reveals. However, Jeff Foust from SpaceNews has since shared a render and real-life image of Collins Aerospace's upcoming suit being worn and tested.

The suits are expected to be finalized by 2025 in preparation for NASA's Artemis III mission, which will see astronauts return to the moon for the first time since Apollo 17 in December 1972. NASA astronauts currently use spacesuits that were designed about 45 years ago for use in the Space Shuttle program.

We are being teased with 15-21% increases in IPC performance with the new Redwood Cove architecture over the Raptor Cove architecture, but with MLID apologizing for the huge range (15-21%) but I think that's fine. 15% IPC is better than 5-10% but more than that will be welcomed.

Meteor Lake CPUs will have lower clock speeds, but you'll have more performance for the same clocks with the new CPUs over Alder Lake, hence the 15-21% boost in IPC performance. MLID adds that "Crestmont is the new Little Core architecture, but I can't confirm its performance or core count yet" and to also "expect integrated accelerators like a VPU or Neural Engine, and more".

As for core counts, MLID teases that we'll get "at least 2+8 and 6+8 SKUs are confirmed for U/P mobile" while the "desktop is expected to be 8+16 but that's not 100% confirmed yet".

A study on the diseases risks titled "A multi-population phenome-wide association study of genetically-predicted height in the Million Veteran Program" has been published in the journal PLOS Genetics.

International researchers have determined that being taller is associated with a higher risk of irregular heartbeats, varicose veins, skin and bone infections, and nerve damage in one's extremities (peripheral neuropathy). They also found that the higher your predicted height as determined by your genetics, the lower your risk of coronary heart disease, but the higher your blood pressure and cholesterol are.

The data used by the research team comes from the VA Million Veteran Program, which includes health and genetic information from over 200,000 white adults and over 50,000 black adults. This allowed them to remove confounding factors and look directly at the connections between over 1,000 conditions and traits to conclude that height is a "previously unrecognized risk factor for several common conditions in adults."

The Juno spacecraft orbiting Jupiter completed its 41st close flyby of Jupiter on April 9th, 2022.

Citizen scientist Andrea Luck used raw image data from the JunoCam instrument aboard the spacecraft to create a new animated sequence, showing the perspective one would experience flying around the gas giant. Jupiter is about 87,000 miles (140,000 kilometers) in diameter, making it the solar system's largest planet, and the closest Juno came to it on April 9th was 2,050 miles (3,300 kilometers) above its clouds.

At that point, Juno was traveling approximately 131,000 miles (210,000 kilometers) per hour, about five times faster than the Apollo missions when they left Earth, bound for the Moon. Juno also came ten times closer to Jupiter than any of the satellites in geosynchronous orbit around Earth are found.

A study on the potential origin of life titled "Catalytic Synthesis of Polyribonucleic Acid on Prebiotic Rock Glasses" has been published in the journal PLOS Genetics.

Researchers from the Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution have announced a new finding, showing that ribonucleic acid (RNA) can spontaneously form on basalt lava glass. RNA is a molecule, similar to DNA, that constitutes a large amount of the genetic material on Earth, and basaltic glass was abundant on Earth 4.35 billion years ago.

HBO has released a new trailer revealing an upcoming documentary titled "Chernobyl: The Lost Tapes."

The Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine on April 26th, 1986, about 81 miles (130 kilometers) north of Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine. It was the worst nuclear accident in history, and a massive amount of time and work was required to clean up the aftermath, as shown in HBO's previous work involving the disaster, the 2019 Chernobyl miniseries.

The documentary will include "never before seen" footage following workers involved in the clean-up effort and more. The trailer shows footage from atop the buildings at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and from inside medical facilities at the time, showing the health effects people were suffering from due to radiation. Footage from courtrooms containing officials involved in the disaster is also shown, and civil unrest in the streets of the Soviet Union, which Ukraine was a part of at the time.

Dead Space developer Glen Schofield leads Striking Distance Studios, a team that's making one of the most horrifying video games in recent memory. It's called The Callisto Protocol, and it's a great singleplayer spiritual successor to the Dead Space trilogy that's dripping with a foreboding, haunted atmosphere set amid a madcap scramble for survival.

The game is decidedly cinematic in scope, plunging players into the "dead moon of Callisto" that brings to mind the wasteland of LV-426 from Alien. Tucked away on Jupiter's moon is a high-tech prison that turns upside down as brutal alien monstrosities annihilate everyone around them. Beset by impossible odds, players have to fight their way out tooth and nail in a grisly, terrifying spectacle that blends third-person action with seamless cutscene sequences for a genuine movie-like experience.

Fans asked for it, and Capcom is delivering: Resident Evil 4 is getting fully remade in the powerful RE Engine.

First Resident Evil 2, then RE3, and now the legendary fan-favorite Resident Evil 4 is getting completely rebuilt in Capcom's proprietary and advanced games engine. Resident Evil 4 is being built from the ground up for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, meaning it won't be held back by outdated hardware from 2013. That means ultra-fast loading times, higher-end graphics, effects, and lighting, and possibly even raytraced visuals.

Capcom is targeting a firm March 24, 2023 release date for the fan-favorite sequel which will help kick start game sales for its following fiscal year.

SEGA is releasing a new mini console that includes 50 games across Mega Drive and SEGA CD generations.

Back in the day, there was nothing like SEGA. The console just had its own mystique; it was so bombastic and in your face. Things got even more intense when SEGA started rolling out its expansion consoles. Instead of releasing separate systems, SEGA turned the Genesis/Mega Drive into a Frankenstein's monster abomination, attaching add-on modules like the SEGA CD and the 32X to the base unit. The result was a curious, bewildering, and captivating experiment in gaming technology.

Now that the console wars are behind them, SEGA can joke about the Mega Drive, SEGA CD, and 32X. The new Mega Drive Mini 2 is a humorous nod to a simpler time, an awesome nostalgic throwback that features a bunch of games from the Mega Drive and SEGA CD generation, including Sonic CD Shining Force CD, and arcade hit Virtua Racing. The console will eventually include 50 games but only 11 have been announced.
