AMD taps TSMC to make next-gen CPUs and GPUs on 7nm node
GlobalFoundries has announced it won't be moving forward with its push into 7nm, leaving that work to TSMC who has just secured contracts with AMD for everything Team Red is making on the 7nm node including next-gen CPUs and GPUs.
AMD had already planned to use TSMC for their upcoming 7nm Vega GPUs, as well as the upcoming EPYC processors, but now everything else is being shifted to TSMC on 7nm thanks to GloFo. AMD's Chief Technology Officer, Mark Papermaster, has announced: "AMD's next major milestone is the introduction of our upcoming 7nm product portfolio, including the initial products with our second generation "Zen2" CPU core and our new 'Navi' GPU architecture".
He continued: "We have already taped out multiple 7nm products at TSMC, including our first 7nm GPU planned to launch later this year and our first 7nm server CPU that we plan to launch in 2019. Our work with TSMC on their 7nm node has gone very well and we have seen excellent results from early silicon. To streamline our development and align our investments closely with each of our foundry partner's investments, today we are announcing we intend to focus the breadth of our 7nm product portfolio on TSMC's industry-leading 7nm process. We also continue to have a broad partnership with GLOBALFOUNDRIES spanning multiple process nodes and technologies. We will leverage the additional investments GLOBALFOUNDRIES' is making in their robust 14nm and 12nm technologies at their New York fab to support the ongoing ramp of our AMD Ryzen, AMD Radeon, and AMD EPYC processors. We do not expect any changes to our product roadmaps as a result of these changes".

AMD unveils dual-Vega GPU card: 32GB HBM2, passively cooled
NVIDIA unveiled a truly next-gen Turing GPU last week with three new cards: GeForce RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Ti... but what about AMD? Well, the company has announced their new dual-GPU Radeon Pro V340 accelerator, and it's very interesting to say the least.
The new Radeon Pro V340 is a dual-GPU accelerator that uses the Vega architecture with 56 Compute Units per GPU, and a huge 32GB of HBM2 with Error Correcting Code (ECC). This is not a gaming card and something destined for workstations and servers. Radeon Pro GM Ogi Brkic explains: "As the flagship of our new Radeon Pro V-series product line, the Radeon Pro V340 graphics card employs advanced security features and helps to cost effectively deliver and accelerate modern visualization workloads from the datacenter".
AMD is passively cooling the card which is thge most interesting thing here, and I'm actually a little blown away by this to be honest. The consumer Radeon RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64 graphics cards have fans that even when spinning at 100% can't keep the card cool, as it drives past 80C even in a cool-operating environment. A passively cooled dual-GPU card is quite the engineering feat.

Our first look at the Inno3D GeForce RTX 2080 Ti iChill
NVIDIA had a bunch of custom GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards on show during their event in Cologne, Germany with a bunch of different AIB partners cards on display. One of which caught my eye: the Inno3D GeForce RTX 2080 Ti iChill.
As you can see the Inno3D GeForce RTX 2080 Ti iChill is a watercooled Turing-based graphics card, which should be one of the fastest custom RTX 2080 Ti cards on the market when it drops.
The company is using a new liquid cooling system on the RTX 2080 Ti iChill, with the entire GPU and GDDR6 RAM covered with liquid cooled surfaces, keeping the two most important components of your Turing-based graphics card nice and cool. We're looking at 62C under load, compared to 85C from the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 is up to 2x GTX 1080 perf at 4K
NVIDIA has allowed the tech press to post at least one thing about their upcoming GeForce RTX 2080, and while we are all under embargo for all of the information until a later date, the company did allow us to reveal one thing.
Turing is an absolute beast and all of the skepticism of the RTX 20 series since its reveal earlier this week during the GeForce Gaming Celebration, the company hasn't been clear on just how fast the new RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti are.
Well, now we can reveal to you that the next-gen GeForce RTX 2080 is up to 2x the performance of the GeForce GTX 1080 at 4K in a multitude of games. We don't know the exact settings that NVIDIA used in this benchmark data, so we need to test it for ourselves to ensure that we are looking at one of the largest generational leaps in graphics cards ever... but after sitting through a day of briefings, I think we're safe to say that we should begin to get excited.

Battlefield V will have NVIDIA's next-gen RTX technology
DICE and NVIDIA have both announced during the GeForce Gaming Celebration event in Cologne, Germany that Battlefield V will ship with support for RTX, NVIDIA's new ray tracing technology capable on their next-gen GeForce GTX 20 series cards.
DICE had an new video powered by RTX in Battlefield V, where a flamer thrower blowing flames over soldiers and the wet ground covered in water. You can see 100% more detail thanks to seeing the flame in the reflection of the water, or in the reflections of windows on the buildings on the street. Even the tip of the gun and the metal around the gun reflects the perfect light from the fire and other light in the image.
NVIDIA calls it the "magic of ray tracing" and they're right... it's day and night.

NVIDIA announces GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070
NVIDIA has officially announced its next-gen GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards, here in Cologne, Germany at their huge GeForce Gaming Celebration event.
The new GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards are using their next-gen Turing GPU architecture, something the company has been working on for the last 10 years. The new Turing GPU architecture has ray tracing technology at its heart, hence the use of RTX in the new branding.
This is the biggest GPU release for the company in its history, representing the largest leap in performance courtesy of the truly out-of-this-world Turing GPU architecture.

ZOTAC GeForce RTX 2080 Ti AMP! Edition rumored to cost $1199
We know so much about NVIDIA's about-to-be-announced GeForce RTX series graphics cards, but one of the largest pieces of the puzzle is missing: price. Well, it looks like we could be paying between $700-$1200 for the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti if the leaked pricing from VideoCardz is right.
The site is reporting from information from ElChapuzasInformatico that the ZOTAC GeForce RTX 2080 Ti AMP! Edition will cost a rather large $1199, while the RTX 2080 AMP! will cost $839. This might sound insane, but it makes sense. NVIDIA has a lot of GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards left in the channel and will need to get rid of them.
Why price the new cards at $699 max (RTX 2080 Ti) if it truly is a huge leap in performance over the GTX 1080 Ti? What would the GTX 1080 Ti be priced at tomorrow? $299? The new pricing is big... but we will have confirmation in the coming hours hopefully.

NVIDIA says 'we know you know' about next-gen GeForce RTX
"You know. We know you know. You know we know you know", this is how NVIDIA opens up their latest blog post that is headlined NVIDIA's Jensen Huang to Kick Off GeForce Gaming Event Ahead of Gamescom 2018.
If that's not confirmation that NVIDIA is about to drop the GeForce RTX series, I don't know what is. Well, I guess I do since we've covered every single rumor and leaked photo or detail on the new cards, something you can check out on our constantly updated post on the new GeForce RTX series.
In the blog post, NVIDIA says that the upcoming GeForce gaming event that kicks off tonight here in Cologne, Germany (I'm here, and will be there tonight) will be "loaded with exclusive, hands-on demos running on the hottest upcoming games, presentations from some of the world's biggest game developers and some spectacular surprises".

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE with dual-fan cooler leaked
The latest rumor is that NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition graphics card will feature a dual-fan cooler, a first for a single-GPU graphics card from the company.
VideoCardz is behind the leak once again, pointing out that the GeForce RTX logo is upside down in the image above for "promotional purposes". Anyway, we should expect the RTX 2080 Ti FE to be a possible exclusive through NVIDIA's own store, making it unavailable to retailers and etailers across the world.
We're expecting the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti to be unveiled today during the GeForce Gaming Celebration event, with the RTX 2080 Ti to rock the TU102 GPU with a huge 4352 CUDA cores, 11GB of GDDR6 RAM on a 352-bit memory bus, what we should expect to be NVLink, and the new VirtualLink connector for next-gen VR headsets.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2080/2080 Ti WindForce/Gaming teased
Now that I've finally landed in Cologne, Germany for NVIDIA's exciting GeForce Gaming Celebration event, a new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 card have been shown off.
The latest to join the leak fest is GIGABYTE with their refreshed WindForce and Gaming branded cards, but the problem is that they all look virtually identical. GIGABYTE might have some troubles marketing these cards unless there's a drastic difference in GPU clocks.
Starting with the higher-end GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming OC graphics card, which comes in as a thicker 2.5-slot card and as the source of the leak, VideoCardz, points out - the Gaming OC models of the new RTX 20 series cards feature a carbon-fiber structure on the rear I/O bracket.

NVIDIA is all but confirmed to launch their next-gen Turing-based GeForce RTX 20 series cards in just over 24 hours time, with the company itself having a countdown to their huge #BeForTheGame event in Cologne, Germany.
The company is hosting a live stream for the GeForce Gaming Celebration event where not only the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti/RTX 2080 be announced, but a bunch of gaming-related announcements. We can expect more on NVLink, GDDR6, the Turing GPU architecture, the new RTX 20 series cards, VirtualLink, and so much more to be covered during the stream.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang will be hosting the event, taking to the stage to blow the entire world away with a slew of next generation graphics cards and so much more. ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 cards shown off
We've already had our geek meters blown up over all of the other AIB partners' custom GeForce RTX series graphics cards, and now it's time for ASUS to shine.
VideoCardz is behind this leak (and every single other one) with our first look at the ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2080 cards smiling for the camera. We also get a look at the upcoming DUAL and TURBO RTX series, with a blower fan cooling down the next-gen Turing GPU architecture and GDDR6 memory.
First up, we have the ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with a triple-fan cooler and what seems like a 2.5-slot design. The RTX 2080 version of the card looks identical, except it has cut down specs compared to the RTX 2080 Ti.

Palit's new GeForce RTX 2080/2080 Ti GamingPro pictured
We've seen MSI's upcoming GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GAMING X TRIO as well as the upcoming MSI GeForce RTX 2080/2080 Ti DUKE... and now it's time for Palit.
Palit will reportedly, according to the leak from VideoCardz, be offering their new series in the form of the GamingPro and GamingPro OC. Both cards will use custom PCBs and cooling solutions, with a dual-fan cooler on both models.
Both of the Palit offerings in the GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2080 Ti will have factory overclocks applied (clock speeds unknown right now), with 8GB of GDDR6 on the RTX 2080 and 11GB of GDDR6 on the GTX 2080 Ti.

MSI's new GeForce RTX 2080/2080 Ti DUKE leaked
I'm literally sitting at the airport here in Adelaide, South Australia writing all of this news about the new flow of leaks on NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 20 series and it isn't stopping. Germany, here I come!
Before I went to bed last night I wrote up about MSI's new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GAMING X TRIO graphics card, something VideoCardz leaked to the world and now they're back with a leak on MSI's other RTX 20 series card.
We now have our first look at the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti DUKE graphics cards, which are similar - but not identical to the GAMING X TRIO variant.

MSI's new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GAMING X TRIO teased
It looks like NVIDIA will be unveiling the higher-end GeForce RTX 2080 Ti next week, and not just the expected GeForce RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 graphics cards. VideoCardz is now showing off some photos of MSI's first custom RTX 2080 Ti graphics card.
MSI's new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GAMING X TRIO graphics card is similar to the current GTX 1080 Ti GAMING X TRIO, but the new card features a few fairly large changes, apart from the new Turing GPU and GDDR6 memory. The new RTX 2080 Ti GAMING X TRIO has a VirtualLink connector, the new USB-C port for next-gen VR headsets but it is the loss of SLI and gain of NVLink which has me happy.
I only just wrote about NVIDIA ditching the SLI connector in favor of NVLink, which could see VRAM doubling instead of being wasted on the other card. This would mean that two RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards in NVLink would have a truly insane 22GB of GDDR6 at its disposal.

NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 2080 rumored to cost $649
NVIDIA is expected to announce its new GeForce RTX range of graphics cards during Gamescom 2018 next week, with all signs pointing to the RTX 20 series unveil taking place on August 20 in Cologne, Germany.
VideoCardz is reporting information from a member of the Baidu forums who claims to "have a lot of information from a board partner". This source said that the Turing-based GeForce RTX 2080 would cost $649, but not only that it would beat the TITAN V... a graphics card that costs a whopping $3000. TITAN V is based on the Volta GPU architecture and packs HBM2 memory technology, compared to the RTX 2080 with its Turing GPU architecture and GDDR6 tech.
The purported GeForce RTX 2080 would feature 3072 CUDA cores from the Turing GPU architecture, 8GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit memory bus. We don't know GPU base/boost clocks and I'm sure we'll see a large change to the way it works with tweaks made to NVIDIA GPU Boost technology. We don't know what speeds the GDDR6 will be clocked at, but we do know Samsung is providing its GDDR6 at up to 14Gbps.

Intel holds firm to 2020 for discrete GPU
Intel has released a short video at Siggraph 2018 this week in Vancouver teasing about their upcoming discrete GPU in 2020. The newly installed Intel discrete graphics boss, Raja Koduri, has been spotted roaming around Vancouver this week as well. The Twitter post by Intel can be found here.
The image of the card in the video has been confirmed to us by Intel as a rendering and not an actual product image. Intel made no formal presentations this year at Siggraph in Vancouver about their upcoming plans, although we are expecting more information to begin appearing in 2019.
Raja Koduri joined Intel late in 2017 as we reported here. Earlier this year Chris Hook of AMD and ATI fame, as well Tom Forsyth joined the expanding Intel discrete graphics team.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti: monster card with 11GB GDDR6
NVIDIA should be announcing its next-gen GeForce RTX series of graphics cards on August 20, with more details, speculation and rumor being thrown onto the internet than ever before.
We're now seeing some detailed specifications on not just the forthcoming GeForce RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 but the higher-end RTX 2080 Ti that should truly blow the doors off of everything else on the market. The current rumors peg the RTX 2080 at beating the TITAN V, and considering that's a Volta-based HBM2-powered $3000 graphics card, those claims are beyond imagination.
We should expect NVIDIA to release a beefed up GeForce RTX 2080 Ti if the naming scheme stays the same as the GTX 10 series (GTX 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti) and from the current crop of information, it will be an utter beast. If the GeForce RTX 2080 is beating the TITAN V, then the RTX 2080 Ti would be truly insane. It should have 11GB of GDDR6 on a 352-bit memory bus (the GTX 1080 Ti has 11GB of GDDR5X on a 352-bit memory bus).

Samsung's new GDDR6 should power next-gen GeForce RTX 2080
NVIDIA unveiled its next-gen Turing GPU architecture during SIGGRAPH 2018 with the new Quadro RTX range of cards featuring GDDR6 memory from Samsung with transfer speeds of up to 14Gbps.
Samsung is providing its new GDDR6 technology for NVIDIA's latest cards, with the company using the 10nm node for its GDDR6. Jim Ellott, Corporate Senior Vice President at Samsung Semiconductor explained: "It's a tremendous privilege to have been selected by NVIDIA to launch Samsung's 16Gb GDDR6, and to have enjoyed the full confidence of their design team in making our key contribution to the NVIDIA Quadro RTX GPUs".
NVIDIA's new Quadro RTX 8000 has an astounding 48GB of GDDR6 and when used in two-way NVLink mode that VRAM framebuffer doubles to a huge 96GB of super-fast GDDR6 memory. Samsung's new 10nm-built GDDR6 tech will eventually run at up to 18Gbps (up from 14Gbps) and that each die can transfer data at 72Gbps, which is a two-fold increase over the same GDDR5 chips with 8Gbps bandwidth.

NVIDIA's new RTX technology powers ray traced Porsche
SIGGRAPH 2018 - NVIDIA revealed the next-gen Turing GPU architecture today during SIGGRAPH 2018, with some new Quadro RTX graphics cards that are powering all sorts of new demos.
One of those includes an unveiling of "The Speed of Light", a collaboration between Porsche, NVIDIA, and Epic Games. The Speed of Light was created with Unreal Engine 4 using real-time ray tracing, NVIDIA's RTX technology, and their new Quadro RTX graphics cards. The demo was powered by two of NVIDIA's new Quarto RTX graphics cards, all running in real-time.
Manager of Virtual Design at Porsche, Christian Braun, said: "Porsche's collaboration with Epic and NVIDIA has exceeded all expectations from both a creative and technological perspective. The achieved results are proof that real-time technology is revolutionizing how we design and market our vehicles".
