The developers behind the immensely popular ChatGPT have announced that they will be pulling the ai classifier from the chatbot service, citing concerning inaccuracies.
Open AI, the developers behind ChatGPT, have announced via its website that the online tool known as AI classifier, which is used to determine if text inputted into ChatGPT has been generated by other artificial intelligence text generators. The tool was completely free to use, and many individuals interested in checking if an AI-powered program had generated the information that they were reading would take to the website and analyze any material that was of concern.
Notably, individuals would typically check text-based content such as emails, blog posts, and essays were written by a human or an AI. Open AI admitted to the lack of accuracy behind its ai classifier, saying that it would "sometimes be extremely confident in a wrong prediction," referencing instances where it flagged content as AI generated when it was created by a human.

Astronomers discover weird exoplanet that's as fluffy as cotton candy
Space is a weird and wonderful place, and a recent discovery from astronomers only drives home that point even more.
A team of astronomers has discovered a very strange exoplanet that's located approximately 1,232 light years away from Earth. This exoplanet is called WASP-193b. According to a recently published study on a preprint server, WASP-193b is 50 percent bigger than Jupiter but has a similar density as cotton candy. For comparison, WASP-193b has just one percent of the density of Earth, making it one of if not the fluffiest planets ever discovered.
Planets such as WASP-193b are certainly rare but not completely unheard of, with astronomers estimating that it has a similar temperature to the Sun while orbiting its companion star closer than any other planet in our solar system. WASP-193b completes one orbit of its host star every 6.25 Earth days.

Researchers have discovered what appears to be the first meteorite that left Earth and have returned back to our planet.
The space rock was discovered in the Sahara Desert in Morocco a few years ago, and according to recent reports, it appears to be an Earth rock that was flung into space and stayed out in the solar system for thousands of years before returning to our planet.
The scientists behind the not-yet-peer-reviewed study presented their work at the International Geo Chemistry Conference last week, where they explained that early testing found unusual features on and within the space rock in particular chemical compositions such as what is found in volcanic rocks on Earth. Additionally, researchers discovered lighter versions of elements known as isotopes which are only known to spawn through the interaction of cosmic rays in outer space.
Scientists prove they can implant false memories into people with AI-generated deepfakes
A team of scientists have shown that they are able to implant false memories inside subjects that participated in a fascinating survey.
The team of researchers published a new study in PLOS One, which detailed a recent survey that contained 436 participants. The survey aimed to prove that humans are able to generate false memories through reading and seeing deepfake videos/images as well as descriptions. For example, the team of researchers showed the participants false additions to famous movies that were generated through the power of artificial intelligence systems.
More specifically, the researchers showed the survey participants falsified examples such as Brad Pitt starring in The Shining, Will Smith starring in The Matrix, and Chris Pratt in Indiana Jones. The study's participants were asked if they had seen these examples before and to rate them compared to the original. Notably, 49 percent of the study participants were fooled by the deep fake videos, while forty-one percent of the group claimed that one example (Charlize Theron being in Captain Marvel) was better than the original.

As a Ryzen 9 CPU, it's a flagship product, so expect it to be limited to high-end gaming laptops and notebooks with GPUs like the GeForce RTX 4090.

ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 sets new 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme world record
We've seen some pretty impressive overclocking action with the GeForce RTX 4090, with American overclocker Allen "Splave" Golibersuch being the first person to achieve a recorded 4 GHz boost clock speed with a ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 from ASUS not that long ago. And now the OC master is back, smashing the 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme world record with the same GPU.
The ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 was paired with an Intel Xeon w9 3495X 'Sapphire Rapids-WS' CPU, W790 motherboard, and G.Skill DDR5 memory. Alongside the GPU overclocked to 3885 MHz, the VRAM was overclocked to 1563 MHz to deliver 1.2 TB/s of memory bandwidth.
Of course, cooling all of that required liquid nitrogen. The result was a new world record 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme overall score of 56,489 and graphics score of 58,589. Per the HWBOT submission, it beats the record set by German overclocker CENS of 55,809 by 1.2%.

Xbox revenues hit $15 billion, miss expectations due to 'weak first-party, third-party content'
Xbox delivered a record-breaking Q4 period, but total-year revenues missed Microsoft's expectations due to weak performance of content offerings.
Microsoft just posted up its Q4 and full-year Fiscal Year 2023 results, and based on the figures provided we were able to key in some performance estimates for the Xbox video games division.
According to the info provided by Microsoft, Xbox gaming generated $15.477 billion in total revenues during Fiscal Year 2023, with the Q4 period delivered a record $3.5 billion in earnings. As per usual, the bulk of the division's revenues game from content and services, with Xbox pulling in a total of $12.198 billion in FY23 from game sales, subscriptions, DLC, microtransactions, and other content sold on the Xbox ecosystem.
Another leak suggests Intel's Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs will be out in October
We've seen yet more evidence that Intel's Raptor Lake Refresh processors are set to hit the shelves within the next three months.
This comes from a report by Chinese tech site IT Home, which was present at the Bilibili World exhibition (in Shanghai), and spoke to a PC maker there (as flagged up by VideoCardz).
That PC manufacturer, Mechenike, was showing off some of its incoming products for later this year, including gaming desktops and mini PCs (quite flashy looking efforts that incorporate water cooling and RGB goodness aplenty).
Xbox breaks alleged Game Pass exclusivity requirement, Sea of Stars launches day one on PS Plus
In an indie game first, Sea of Stars, the new turn-based RPG from The Messenger developer Sabotage, will come to both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass on day one.
A bit ago during the FTC v Microsoft trial, a badly-redacted Sony Interactive Entertainment document had some interesting things to say about subscription exclusivity. In the document, SIE said that Microsoft typically requires any game launching day one on Xbox Game Pass to be exclusive to the Game Pass service.
"While SIE does not typically require subscription exclusivity for games included on PS Plus, Microsoft often requires that tiles included on Game Pass--particularly titles offered on Game Pass the same day they are released--not be made available on other subscription services," the passage reads.

In a surprise move, Bethesda today released three animated shorts set in its new Settled Systems Anthology series. The clips are a blend of some of the most colorful and expressive sci-fi influences of our modern era, with strong tones of classic mecha anime, Syd Mead futurism, and John Berkey's blazing vibrancy.
Apart from the visuals, the other thing that stands out is that there is no dialog in any of these videos. There doesn't have to be. The footage and the strong musical tones really tell the story...and that is something special.
Microsoft promises it won't charge you to use Bing AI chatbot
After some rumors have been flying around lately, Microsoft has taken the step of clarifying that it doesn't intend to charge everyday users for its Bing AI (although there may be other ways to monetize it yet, of course - we'll return to that subject).

Netflix subscribers surge by 6 million as password sharing crackdown maneuver pays off
Netflix's password sharing gambit has paid off big time as subscribers grow by the millions.
A bit ago, Netflix announced that it would no longer allow users to share passwords with people who live outside of their primary home location. In an effort to maximize revenues, the streamer revealed pricing plans to add members to their subscriptions. Gone are the days of being able to leech off of a family member's or ex's subscription.
The move sparked widespread controversy, however it was indeed effective. Netflix's worldwide subscriber counts rose by over 6 million users following the password sharing crackdown. In Q1 2023, Netflix had 232.5 million subscribers, and in Q2 2023, shortly after the new policy went into effect, Netflix subscribers rose to 238.4 million. The addition of subscribers also reflects the relatively new ad-based streaming tier.
Fed up with poor RDNA 3 GPU performance in some games? AMD's new driver fixes some big issues
AMD has released a new graphics driver which ushers in some pretty jaw-dropping boosts for some PC games (although why this is the case - well, we'll come back to that later).
YouTuber Ancient Gameplays has been test driving the latest version, quite literally in the case of Forza Horizon 5, finding that AMD's version 23.7.1 Adrenalin release boosts the average frame rate by 67% in one case (compared to the previous driver release).
That's with the Radeon RX 7900 XT at 1080p resolution, and the 7900 XTX also witnesses a very healthy boost with the new driver to the tune of 32%. (All of this must be regarded with a little caution, as it's based off one round of testing on one particular PC configuration, of course).
Intel Beast Lake rumors surface again, hinting at mighty CPUs tailored specifically for gamers
A bunch of new info has been spilled about Intel's future processor ranges by a well-known YouTuber, and we've caught sight of Beast Lake again - potentially highly performant chips that could be specially designed for gaming.
Before we dive into Beast Lake - which is purportedly still a good way down the line - let's look at what's due before this, focusing on the desktop processors, as laid out by Moore's Law is Dead (MLID).
So, as we know, Intel has Raptor Lake Refresh processors to follow current-gen Raptor Lake, landing later this year. Following that, there's Arrow Lake that'll debut late in 2024 (except for the flagship, maybe). After that, things get a bit cloudier, so MLID steps in with his latest theorized release schedule for Intel.
Remnant 2 is a new game where even the GeForce RTX 4090 struggles to hit 60fps in 4K
The highly anticipated Remnant 2 from developer Gunfire Games is out this week, and it might be the first game without ray-tracing to require the use of NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, or Intel XeSS to achieve an optimal and playable 60fps experience in 4K. It's a visually impressive title, but many PC gamers are wondering why performance is so bad.
A high-profile PC game launch that has performance issues on day one? Not exactly headline news, but when it comes to Remnant 2, you absolutely need to have one of the upscalers mentioned above turned on - even on a GeForce RTX 4090. Gunfire Games confirmed as much over on Reddit, where it posted, "We designed the game with upscaling in mind (DLSS/FSR/XeSS)" and that for "the smoothest gameplay," you'll need to leave them on.
Over on DSOG, writer John Papadopoulos got to play the game early via the Ultimate Edition. He could not achieve native 4K 60fps performance using the game's Ultra settings with a GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. "The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 cannot run Remnant 2 with 60fps at native 4K and Ultra Settings," he writes. "The game does not even use any Ray Tracing effects, so we really don't know what the hell is going on here."
AYANEO KUN gaming handheld will feature a massive 8.4-inch screen and AMD Ryzen 7 7840U
AYANEO has been releasing Windows-based PC gaming handhelds for a few years now, and with the arrival of devices like the Steam Deck from Valve and the ROG Ally from ASUS, it's looking to branch out with new models. The company's latest, the AYANEO KUN, is described as "the most premium large-screen handheld device to date."
As far as AYANEO handhelds go, this is the big one; it features the biggest screen, the biggest battery at 75 Wh, and is the first to feature touchpads and buttons comparable to a traditional controller. And with that, it will be powered by the popular AMD Ryzen 7 7840U 'Phoenix' processor and will be the most expensive PC gaming handheld from AYANEO.
The specs for this are pretty impressive, especially on the display front with its 8.4-inch IPS display with a 2.5K pixel resolution. For reference, both the Steam Deck and ROG Ally feature 7-inch displays.
Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition is a cutdown version of the 7900 XT for the Chinese market
The first 16GB RDNA 3 GPU from AMD for its Radeon RX 7000 Series won't be the upcoming Radeon RX 7800 rumored to launch in September. Instead, it will be the new Radeon RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition) for the Chinese market. According to a post from leaker @momomo_us, it's set to launch on July 28 and will be a cutdown version of the Radeon RX 7900 XT.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE is a brand-new SKU for the line-up, with 84 Compute Units and 16GB VRAM across a 256-bit memory bus - information obtained from images showcasing the new Sapphire RX 7900 GRE NITRO+ model. As a cutdown model, the GPU will feature a slimmer build and could be some sort of Navi 31/32 hybrid.
AMD has yet to officially announce the Radeon RX 7900 GRE as a new option for Radeon GPUs, and so far, there's no indication that the GPU will be released globally, so that it could be something purely for the Chinese market. With no reference model, AMD could be testing the waters to gauge interest in a third Radeon RX 7900 variant.
