The new ASUS ROG Crosshair VII motherboard rocks a new VRM heat sink, a pre-installed I/O shield, power on/rest buttons have been moved next to the DIMM slots, while we now have a M.2 slot with a dedicated heat sink to keep those super-fast NVMe drives from getting too hot.

ASUS have changed things up between the previous-gen ROG Crosshair VI and the new ROG Crosshair VII, with the latter featuring less SATA 6Gbps ports with 6 drives capable on the new board compared to 8 on the former. The I/O bracket features 12 x USB ports (with a mix of 2.0, 3.0, and 3.1) compared to 14 on the previous-gen port, but the new board now sports a PS/2 port.

According to Digital Foundry's latest findings, Ubisoft taps the Xbox One X's boosted horsepower to run Far Cry 5 in native 4K resolution.

Far Cry 5 runs at native 4K on Xbox One X

Usually we see Microsoft's first-party studios hitting native 4K resolution and crazy performance targets on the Xbox One X, and rightly so: after all they were directly involved in the system's testing and have the closest line to the console's engineers. But apparently Ubisoft has made a pretty substantial dev milestone with Far Cry 5 by hitting native 4K res on the Xbox One X thanks to the Dunia Engine's new upgraded prowess.

"After numerous pixel counts we've determined that Far Cry 5 delivers a full native 3840x2160 presentation on the Xbox One X," Digital Foundry's John Linneman said in the analysis video.

Tesla recall 123,000 Model S cars, largest Tesla recall ever

Anthony Garreffa | Electric Vehicles & Cars | Mar 30, 2018 5:47 PM CDT

It hasn't been a good ride this week for Tesla, with the electric car company now issuing a recall for 123,000 Model S electric vehicles that were built before April 2016.

Tesla recall 123,000 Model S cars, largest Tesla recall ever

Tesla's Model S vehicles made before April 2016 have issues with corrosion in the bolts that hold the power steering system together, which as you can imagine, is a big deal. The company has been busy sending out affected Model S owners emails, explaining the recall and that replacing the bolts would be an hour long process.

This new Model S recall is the biggest in Tesla history, where back in 2016 the company recalled 50,000 electric cars over parking brake problems, while 90,000 cars were recalled in 2015 over seat belt problems. Tack this onto the end of Tesla stock being down earlier this week and now more with the news of the recall, and it's not looking good.

Intel chases patent for Bitcoin mining hardware accelerator

Anthony Garreffa | Cryptocurrency & Mining | Mar 30, 2018 3:22 PM CDT

With all the changes happening to the GPU market because of cryptocurrency mining, Intel is looking to make a move into the Bitcoin mining world with a new patent the company has just filed.

Intel chases patent for Bitcoin mining hardware accelerator

Intel filed an application for a "Bitcoin Mining Hardware Accelerator With Optimized Message Digest and Message Scheduler Datapath" with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in September 2016, which teases the company is working on a Bitcoin mining accelerator, something that would see Bitcoin miners consume less electricity, providing far better ROI.

Intel wrote in the filing: "Because the software and hardware utilized in Bitcoin mining uses brute force to repeatedly and endlessly perform SHA-256 functions, the process of Bitcoin mining can be very power-intensive and utilize large amounts of hardware space. The embodiments described herein optimize Bitcoin mining operations by reducing the space utilized and power consumed by Bitcoin mining hardware".

God of War optimized for 1080p performance on PS4 Pro

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 30, 2018 3:08 PM CDT

Sony Santa Monica's new God of War game will apparently have two performance modes: a mode optimized for 4K gaming, and another for 1080p with steady frame rates.

God of War optimized for 1080p performance on PS4 Pro

While Sony's PS4 Pro is made to help usher in the new age of 4K gaming, the company was careful not to leave 1080p gamers behind--after all most people still have HDTVs although the 4K market is expected to pick up. This leaves developers with some options: optimizing their game for 4K UHDTV owners, typically targeting 4K resolution at 30FPS with dynamic scaling for better graphics, or a more targeted performance option for 1080p gamers who receive smoother in-game performance as a result of the resolution drop. Sony's latest first-party God of War game will feature both, and should draw the maximum power from the PS4 Pro.

God of War director Cory Barlog says that God of War looks "amazing" in 4K but the game will run "so so smooth" on a PS4 Pro in 1080p.

April's free Xbox LIVE Gold games are pretty great

Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers are getting some pretty awesome free games in April, including Assassin's Creed: Syndicate.

April's free Xbox LIVE Gold games are pretty great

While Sony had a fantastic free PS Plus lineup for January and February, Games With Gold smashes the competition with April's games. Microsoft's GWG headliners include Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, a huge 18th Century excursion into Ubisoft's historically-accurate depiction of London during the Industrial Revolution, and The Witness, a neat little puzzle indie game with colorful visuals.

And those are just the Xbox One games. On Xbox 360 we'll get the worthy horror successor Dead Space 2 (RIP Visceral Games!) and...Cars 2. Yeah, we're not so excited about that one but it should keep the kids entertained right?
