More details have emerged about Intel's upcoming CPU lineups. Prominent leaker Jaykihn has shared two new details about Intel's upcoming Razor Lake-AX chip. Apparently, the processor will reuse Nova Lake's CPU cores instead of moving to a newer design, and it won't support overclocking.

According to Jaykihn, Razor Lake-AX pairs Coyote Cove P-cores with Arctic Wolf E-cores, the same combination Intel confirmed for its Nova Lake lineup. That's notably different from the newer Griffin Cove and Golden Eagle cores expected on Razor Lake-S and Razor Lake-H, which are Intel's standard desktop and laptop chips in the same family.

Razor Lake-AX is Intel's answer to AMD's Strix Halo and Gorgon Halo APUs. Previous leaks point to a massive BGA4326 package, up to 32 Xe3 GPU cores, and a return to on-package memory, likely LPDDR5X or LPDDR6. That memory setup hasn't shown up in an Intel chip since Lunar Lake, and it's probably necessary to feed a GPU this large without bottlenecking on bandwidth.

It looks like Razor Lake-AX borrows most of its DNA from the canceled Nova Lake-AX project, which reportedly died before it could reach the market. Recycling those CPU cores probably kept development timelines shorter, even if it means the chip won't get Intel's freshest core architecture at launch. We've heard for a while that most of Razor Lake's mobile lineup could reuse Nova Lake silicon, so this isn't coming out of nowhere. Earlier reporting pointed in the same direction.

The overclocking omission may end up being a smaller deal than it sounds. Razor Lake-AX is built for laptops and mini PCs, not enthusiast desktops, so unlocked multipliers were probably never in the cards anyway. Razor Lake-S, on the other hand, is expected to keep full overclocking support alongside its newer core architecture, giving Intel a clearer split between its desktop and Halo-style products.

We probably won't see Razor Lake-AX chips until 2028, going by current timelines, since Nova Lake itself is still on track for a 2026 debut and Razor Lake sits a generation behind it. When these chips do arrive, expect them in premium laptops, handhelds, and mini PCs chasing the same unified-memory, big-iGPU formula as AMD's Halo chips and NVIDIA's Spark platform. By 2028, Razor Lake-AX would likely be facing AMD's Medusa Halo rather than Strix Halo, so the competitive picture could look pretty different by launch.
