LG launches the world's first wireless OLED TV, and it's a massive 97 inches

Kosta Andreadis | Aug 2, 2023 10:29 PM CDT

Getting a brand new 4K TV in 2023 is an exercise in setting things up via connecting multiple devices - especially if you own one or more videogame consoles. Multiple HDMI 2.1 inputs that can handle a 4K 120Hz signal with HDR are a must for modern lounge-room displays - and LG's OLED range is no different.

LG launches the world's first wireless OLED TV, and it's a massive 97 inches

However, LG's latest signature OLED TV presents an experience "completely free of cables" outside of connecting up power. LG notes that its Zero Connect Box is the world's first wireless solution to handle real-time video and audio at 4K 120Hz (including Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos). It is "a new, hassle-free way of managing cables and connected devices," according to the announcement.

The only catch is that the Zero Connect Box is limited to the 97-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED M (model 97M3), currently only available in South Korea. The company plans to roll out the flagship display to the North American and European markets later this year.

Samsung introduces a new massive 98-Inch QLED 4K Smart TV that it says is 'accessible'

Kosta Andreadis | Jul 20, 2023 1:56 AM CDT

Samsung has been careful not to use the word affordable for the launch of its massive Samsung 98-inch QLED Q80C 4K Smart TV, now available in the US, Europe, and Australia - because we're not at a stage where displays this size are anywhere near affordable. But, using the word 'accessible' makes sense as the USD 7,999 and AUD 11,649 is almost half the price of its predecessor, the Samsung Neo QLED 98" QN90A 4K Smart TV.

Samsung introduces a new massive 98-Inch QLED 4K Smart TV that it says is 'accessible'

It's a massive price drop, with the display still sporting the same high-end QLED features across Samsung's premium line-up - from Quantum Dot technology to improve colors to Quantum HDR+ and a 4K resolution at 120 frames per second via HDMI 2.1. 98 inches is huge for a TV, so if you've got the space (and the money to spare), getting one of the biggest TVs on the market could be the thing to take your gaming and movie watching to the next level.

Sporting the company's latest processor and Tizen Operating System, it's a display packed with great gaming features - including changing the 16:9 aspect ratio to an ultrawide 32:9.

The Samsung ViewFinity S9 is a promising new 27-inch 5K display

Oliver Haslam | Jul 18, 2023 5:51 AM CDT

After announcing the ViewFinity S9 display during its CES 2023 events and then subsequently sharing details about when it would go on sale at home in South Korea, Samsung has now confirmed how much the display will cost when sold in the United States.

The Samsung ViewFinity S9 is a promising new 27-inch 5K display

According to Samsung, the ViewFinity S9 will sell for $1.599 which makes it the same price as the Apple Studio Display - and the two displays are always going to be heavily compared. They both have 27-inch displays and they both have a 5K panel. The 5K displays are often favored by users of Macs so as to allow for a full Retina display experience.

Alongside the 5K panel, the ViewFinity S9 also comes with a built-in 4K webcam for use on video calls and whatnot. That's an upgrade over Apple's monitor with its notoriously poor 12-megapixel camera. That alone could make this a good option for people who want a 5K display with a solid webcam included without having to buy an external one.

Turn your laptop into a dual-screen setup with these add-on displays from Mobile Pixels

Kosta Andreadis | Jun 21, 2023 12:28 AM CDT

In the desktop PC space, rocking an ultrawide display or two displays side-by-side is a surefire speed boost for productivity. More screen real estate equals free real estate. When it comes to laptops though, being on the go means you can pick up and work or create no matter where you are. And for many, the idea of a portable dual-screen setup doesn't get a tiny blip on their radar.

Turn your laptop into a dual-screen setup with these add-on displays from Mobile Pixels

This is where Mobile Pixels comes in, and its range of DUEX portable laptop monitors is designed to add a second screen to help bridge the gap between the desktop and portable space. And with the shift to working from home and a hybrid setup that means many aren't simply working out of a single office, this solution is worth celebrating.

These lightweight DUEX screens, attached to an existing laptop via magnets, feature their own support and stand for durability. They can also be oriented on the left or right side of a laptop too, and best of all, Mobile Pixels notes that they are compatible with any laptop (via USB-C or USB-A), so you can get that dual-screen experience anywhere.

ViewSonic's new X2-4K projector is designed for Xbox, offering native 4K 60 Hz and 1440p 120 Hz

Kosta Andreadis | Jun 18, 2023 11:06 PM CDT

ViewSonic is launching a new home theatre projector with the X2-4K, though what makes this different from other similar products is that it has been designed for the Xbox Series X|S consoles and even carries a "Certified for Xbox" tag.

ViewSonic's new X2-4K projector is designed for Xbox, offering native 4K 60 Hz and 1440p 120 Hz

Visually, the black look features a couple of green flourishes to add Xbox flavor to the design, but the underlying specs make it sound great for big-screen console gaming. The X2-4K LED Projector for Xbox supports native 1440p at 120 Hz or a 4K 60 Hz using DMD and TI XPR technology.

The X2-4K is a short-throw LED projector, meaning it can be placed fairly close to where the image will be projected, but perhaps the most exciting aspect is that in addition to the bright 2,900 LED lumens for the lamp, you're also getting a 4.2ms ultra-fast response time. With response times in most 4K projectors being okay or passable for most console gaming, this puts the X2-4K in the same category as LED monitors designed for high refresh-rate gaming.

MSI showcases a 240Hz 49-inch ultrawide QD-OLED Concept Monitor at Computex

Kosta Andreadis | Jun 5, 2023 9:32 PM CDT

OLED panel technology for PC gaming monitors has been one of the biggest advances in recent years, and MSI is fully embracing the OLED life with a number of new QD-OLED displays on the way. QD-OLED, which adds Quantum Dot technology to deliver a brighter and more colorful image than standard OLED, is quickly becoming the new sought-after OLED display tech.

MSI showcases a 240Hz 49-inch ultrawide QD-OLED Concept Monitor at Computex

On that front, the MEG 342C QD-OLED Gaming Monitor is definitely drool-worthy, offering an ultrawide 3440 x 1440 resolution display with a fast 175Hz refresh rate and an immersive 1800R curve. Throw in the infinite contrast you get from OLED's self-lit pixels (not to mention the nearly instantaneous response times) for pristine black levels, and it's one of the best gaming monitors you can pick up right now.

But, at Computex 2023, MSI had one more QD-OLED display to showcase, a massive 32:9 49-inch display with a blisteringly fast 240Hz refresh rate. This thing is a monster and was one of the show's highlights for me. MSI had this beast of a display connected to a GeForce RTX 4090 powered rig running a full Microsoft Flight Simulator setup with the Top Gun expansion.
