Samsung Display is rumored to adopt inkjet printing in an attempt for the smartphone manufacturer to cut costs on its foldable devices.

A report from The Elec states Samsung Display is currently preparing to use inkjet printing technology to create the bezels on its foldable devices, which would be a step away from the company's traditional means of making bezels on its devices Micro Dry Process Decoration (MDD). That process involves using a film that was later cut off to form the bezels, while inkjet printing could already have the bezels in place. For those who don't know, bezel films are placed between the OLED panel and the thin sheet of glass to protect the display.

Gizmochina explains that the switch to inkjet printing will enable Samsung to extract more frames from the original film compared to MDD while also simultaneously reducing manufacturing costs that could trickle down to the total price of Samsung's next foldable smartphones. Notably, Samsung is also rumored to be working on a much more affordable smartphone that is expected to be released alongside its next Galaxy Z series, which are currently priced at $999 (Flip) and $1,799 (Fold).

A very lucky photographer has captured a rare phenomenon that occurs when light passes through Earth's atmosphere.

The green flash was captured by photographer Peter Rosén who pointed his camera at one of Earth's closest neighbors - Venus. The footage was snapped in the early hours on January 8 as Rosén was watching Venus rise above the horizon. So, what is this green flash, as shown above? Firstly, visible light contains many different wavelengths of colored light, and when this light shines through Earth's atmosphere, these individual wavelengths begin to be refracted through the molecules in Earth's atmosphere.

The green flash is light bouncing off Venus and making its way through Earth's atmosphere, specifically Earth's low atmosphere, where it travels through more of the atmosphere and eventually reaches the observer. As light passes through Earth's atmosphere, a prism effect takes place, as the light is split into RGB colors, which can also be affected by temperature. When this event is taking place, it's possible that only green wavelengths of light make it to the observer, with all other wavelengths either being scattered or absorbed by Earth's molecules.

NVIDIA has reportedly secured itself a huge 90% of the AI GPU market share, which will see competitors in the AI GPU space with years before they can begin to catch up.

The huge race for AI GPU dominance sees NVIDIA set to sell 1.5 million to 2 million AI GPUs this year, with analysts from both Gartner and Moor Insights & Strategy both chiming into the AI GPU market share discussion. Moor Insights & Strategy CEO Patrick Moorhead said: "What NVIDIA does is they help create markets and that puts competitors in a very tough situation out there, because by the time they've caught up, NVIDIA is on to the next new thing".

Gartner VP analyst Chirag Dekate said: "Software continues to be NVIDIA's strategic moat. These ... turnkey experiences enable NVIDIA to be at the forefront of mindshare, as well as adoption".

Gameplay footage for a canceled Call of Duty game codenamed NX1 has appeared online, with ex-Neversoft developer confirming that development on this futuristic Call of Duty game began after Infinity Ward's founders Jason West and Vince Zampella left to form Respawn back in 2010. Twitter account @mangafigurines posted the 10 minutes of campaign gameplay footage on the weekend, which shows action from a cinematic mission set on the moon.

Brian Bright, the ex-Neversoft developer who worked on this canceled futuristic Call of Duty, responded to confirm that the 'NX1' footage was real and that the team was experimenting with low-g mechanics while learning the ins and outs of the Call of Duty engine.

Interestingly, the studio was coming off of Guitar Hero to tackle Call of Duty, a major shift in direction. Although it was eventually canceled in favor of Call of Duty: Ghosts led by Infinity Ward - the team had two to three campaign missions playable, including multiplayer with a new for the series Escort mode.

The time has finally come, and while many people, including myself, may have thought brain implants were many years away, Elon Musk has announced that the first human has received a Neuralink implant.

In December, Neuralink announced at its event that it was preparing to implant its brain chip into human patients and needed participants. It seems some people put up their hands as the first human has received the implant. Notably, the human trials began after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave the company approval for human testing, which is part of a wider study designed to assess the functionality of the brain-computer interface.

Now, Elon Musk, the founder of Neuralink, has announced via his personal X account the first human has received a Neuralink brain implant and is "recovering well". Additionally, Musk wrote, "Initial results show promising neuron spike detection," which can be translated to brain neuron activity. According to the National Institute of Health, cells use electrical and chemical signals to send information around the brain and body. These signals appear as spikes when fired by the neuron.

We get to see some bottlenecks in action, which is very interesting to see.

Starting with the GeForce RTX 4090 connected through OCulink in the pictures above, we have 3DMark TimeSpy scores of 36487 points when used in desktop form, while in the graphics dock and internal display used, we have 28230 points (a larger 22.6% reduction in performance, while in the graphics dock and the RTX 4090 using the external display scoring 30429 points which is a 16.6% performance loss over OCulink.

Rebellions is a South Korean fabless AI chip startup, closing a new Series B round of funding to help develop its third AI chip, Rebel.

The new funding round and $124 million of new investment will help make its new Rebel AI chip, with Rebellions using the new funding to ramp up production of its new data center-focused chip, Atom, and for hiring new staff. Rebellions is now valued at around $658 million (880 billion KRW) post-money, according to Sungkyue Shin, the CEO of Rebellions, who spoke with TechCrunch.

South Korean telecom giant KT led the latest round in funding for Rebellions as a strategic investor. Previous investors include Temasek's Pavilion Capital and Korea Development Bank, who chipped in this round, as well as new investors, including Korelya Capital and DG Daiwa Ventures.

Break-out star from HBO's House of the Dragon, Milly Alcock, has been cast as Supergirl for the highly anticipated DCU reboot film, as confirmed by James Gunn this morning via his personal Instagram.

The new DCU universe has found its Supergirl in Milly Alcock; the Australian-born actress is most known for her incredible performance as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon, for which she won wide acclaim. Alcock is now set to head her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the DC comics run by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

James Gunn took to Instagram this morning to share a snippet of an article announcing the young actress's entry to his DCU new universe, stating, "This is accurate. Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I'm incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon, but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by Tom King and Bilquis Evely."

Xbox insider Shpeshal Nick has pre-emptively leaked Sony's new State of Play games lineup, and now Sony has confirmed some of the info was correct.

If recent leaks are anything to go by, then Sony is bringing the heat with its latest State of Play showcase. According to Shpescal Nick, Sony will highlight a bevy of anticipated games including the Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team, Death Stranding 2 (which is believed to be named "On the Beach"), a new Metro game from 4A Games, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and the first proper look at BioShock creator Ken Levine's new shooter, Judas.

Since Sony has confirmed a few of Nick's sources to be true, it's likely the rest of the games will also be shown during the State of Play stream.

The Japanese government is slowly moving into the current age of technology, where it's finally starting to change: the Japanese government will soon no longer require businesses to provide information on floppy disks (yes, the 1.44MB floppy disks from the 90s) and CD-ROMs.

This started back in 2022, when the Minister of Digital Affairs, Taro Kono, pushed various branches of the Japanese government to stop requiring businesses to send information to the government on physical media that is far, far outdated... like floppy disks and CDs.

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) was one of the first to switch from physical media, with METI announcing last week: "Under the current law, there are many provisions stipulating the use of specific recording media such as floppy disks regarding application and notification methods".

The Xbox 360's successor, dubbed the Xbox 720, was originally pitched as Microsoft's first profitable console.

Unlike competitors Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft doesn't sell video games hardware at a profit. No Xbox console from any generation has been sold at a profit. In fact, non-profitable hardware was a source of Microsoft's pre-merger pains, and a catalyst for the $68.7 billion buyout. Due to the Xbox One's high $499 MSRP, Gen8 quickly spiraled out of Microsoft's control and became costly for the company. Sony was given a tremendous head start and ran away with Gen8 as a result.

Before Microsoft made the controversial decision to price its always-online, all-in-one entertainment console at $499, the company had more level-headed plans. New leaked Microsoft slides from 2012 show an "Xbox 720" product that would retail for $299 and cost around $225 to produce. This would technically mean the Xbox 720 was the first Microsoft console sold at a profit.

While AAA gaming firmly ruled 2023, indie games have since dominated 2024. Palworld has stolen the limelight by selling 8 million copies in less than a week, signalling a large shift in player behavior. Heavy-hitters like Valheim and Fortnite are proof gamers crave survival-crafting experiences, and these new breakout indies fit the bill nicely.

Despite Palworld's success, there's another rising indie star: Enshrouded, a fantasy game with comprehensively combined mechanics, has now sold 1 million copies in 4 days.

Samsung will be showcasing its next-gen GDDR7 memory clocked at 37Gbps bandwidth at the ISSCC conference between February 18 and February 22, so... next month, we'll get a taste of ultra-fast next-gen memory ready for next-gen graphics cards.

GDDR7 memory has already been announced at up to 32Gbps, but we've got Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron all in the GDDR7 battle, and now Samsung is going to show off its 37Gbps GDDR7 memory next month. Micron won't have its GDDR7 ready until at least 2026, and that'll only be 36Gbps.

Samsung and SK hynix will roll out their GDDR7 memory at lower speeds at first, with 32Gbps as the entry-level for next-gen GDDR7 memory; after that, we'll see 35Gbps and then 37Gbps after that for refreshed GPUs, I'd say. I think we'll see NVIDIA introduce its lower-end GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, like the GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 with GDDR7 memory at 32Gbps, while the higher-end GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 with GDDR7 memory at 35Gbps.

Microsoft recently made the decision to lay off 1,900 workers across the Xbox gaming division, with cuts happening across Activision Blizzard King, ZeniMax Media, and Xbox Game Studios. The announcement also came with previous Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra's departure, and today Microsoft has revealed who will now lead the multi-billion-dollar business.

Blizzard has named Johanna Faries as the new acting president, and she is due to start on February 5. Faries has been with Activision for five years, spearheading initiatives like Call of Duty's esports presence and eventually became the general manager of the $31 billion+ franchise, helping lead Call of Duty through its best-earning period in history. Before that, she spent 11 years as an executive at the NFL.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launched in early access with a devastating bug: The game has beaten itself.

Today, Rocksteady released its new Suicide Squad; Kill the Justice League live service game into early access. The launch didn't go smoothly. Just one hour after release, Rocksteady had to pull the game for a very odd reason. It turns out the supervillain co-op action game had completed itself, beating all story missions.

Obviously, the game wasn't really playable at that point. This also happens to be one of the most disastrous things that could happen with an engagement-driven live service game--the entire point of those games is to keep players grinding for as long as possible. If everything is already beaten, there's no reason to even play.

Swedish decentralized entrepreneurs at the Embracer Group have cancelled a new Deus Ex game and laid off workers at Eidos Montreal, sources tell Bloomberg's Jason Schreier.

In 2022, The Embracer Group made one of the best deals in gaming. The firm paid $300 million to acquire Square Enix's entire Western games division, which included highly-lauded studios Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics. Now as worldwide interest rates climb and affect conversion rates, fear has triggered sizable cost-cutting measures at big decentralized foreign empires like Embracer Group.
