Windows 11 to provide easy-to-use color profile and management tools for creators and gamers
Color management in Windows is one of those things most people didn't know was available, as it's buried in the Control Panel and uses a UI design and interface that hearkens back to the days of Windows '95. As much as we love that classic OS for bringing us footage of Windows execs and Bill Gates dancing on stage, something as critical as color management deserves a modern makeover.
And that's what's happening, with Color Management getting a dedicated page under Display settings in Windows 11. Spotted in the latest Windows Insiders build for Canary and Dev (Build 26052), the new page will allow users to add and customize different color profiles, calibrate a display, and define what apps use what profile.
More detailed and in-depth Color Management is excellent news for games and creators as, over the years, we've all gotten used to simply using our display or monitor calibration tools and settings to adjust color profiles for games and apps.
ISS is getting its first 3D metal printer to create parts for missions to the Moon and Mars
Metal 3D printing is coming to space thanks to a new custom metal 3D printer designed by Airbus for the European Space Agency (ESA) that is now aboard the International Space Station. Not to be confused with the polymer-based 3D printers used on the ISS using plastic materials, this is the real deal - "metal being melted using a laser."
The ESA's metal 3D printer was sent to the ISS aboard the Cygnus NG-20 resupply mission and could be a game-changer for both the International Space Station and space exploration as we know it. With the ability to 3D print metal, spare parts or even brand new ones could be effectively 'manufactured' in orbit without relying on rockets and resupply missions.
3D metal printing is very different from using plastic, with the stainless steel wire of this custom printer heated up to a 1,400 degrees Celsius melting point compared to 200 degrees Celsius for plastic wire.

Tulpar's new gaming handheld: Intel Meteor Lake CPU, Arc GPU, runs Windows 11
You probably haven't heard of Tuplar, don't worry neither have I, but the UK-based gaming company has just shown off its new gaming handheld at the recent IEM 2024 event in Poland. Check it out:
The new Emdoor EM-GP080MTL gaming handheld features an 8-inch screen with a native 1920 x 1200 resolution, with a standard layout: two joysticks, a D-pad, buttons, and triggers... everything you'd expect on a gaming handheld. Tuplar has Intel's new Meteor Lake CPU inside of its new Emdoor gaming handheld, marking another gaming handheld contract win for Intel and its Meteor Lake architecture.
Intel Gaming shared a few photos of the new Tuplar gaming handheld, with RGB lighting on the joysticks -- which looks nice -- and an overall pleasing aesthetic. We don't know the exact display configuration -- refresh rate, VRR support, etc -- nor do we know the price.

TSMC rumored to be teaming with SK hynix on next-gen HBM memory for next-gen AI GPUs
TSMC is reportedly securing a secret deal with South Korean memory manufacturer SK hynix, which would see the two companies teaming up to make next-gen memory products for AI, along with processors and GPUs.
HBM memory is one of the hottest parts of any AI GPU, and SK hynix has been leading the charge for a while now. But with the relationship between Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and SK hynix, we should expect the two companies to combine the best of what they do -- chip packaging and memory fabrication -- to compete, and I'm sure, hopefully, dominate South Korean rival Samsung.
The unconfirmed reports of TSMC and SK hynix teaming up together would see a change in the HBM memory market, as they're essential to AI systems and products, which have insatiable demand right now. There has been absolutely no slowdown, and no slowdown is forecasted for the years ahead when it comes to the world of AI.

The new (and unannounced) Intel Core i9-14900KS processor has been tested on the benchmarking and stability tool OCCT, with a tester pushing the new CPU and showing us its detailed specifications.
Intel's upcoming Core i9-14900KS processor packs 24 cores and 32 threads of CPU power spread across 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores, matching the Core i9-14900K and Core i9-14900KF (KF variant drops the integrated GPU).
MSI enables 256GB DDR5 memory support on its Intel 700, 600 series motherboards
MSI has just enabled up to 256GB of DDR5 memory support on its fleet of Intel 700 and Intel 600 series motherboards, upping RAM limits to a huge 256GB.
MSI says that its latest BIOS is available now for Intel 700 and Intel 600 series motherboards, and one of the big points here that the company is making is that you don't need to disable anything to get the 256GB of RAM support enabled. Other motherboard makers require users to disable things like 4G, Resizable Bar, and Remapping... but MSI doesn't.
MSI's new BIOS doesn't need users to disable any of the above features, you just get that juicy 256GB of RAM support from a BIOS flash. Hardware leaker and insider "chi11eddog" shared a screenshot of MSI's higher-end Z790 Carbon MAX Wi-Fi motherboard with 256GB of DDR5-4800 memory installed, running alongside a flagship Intel Core i9-14900K processor.

NVIDIA's going big on AI - in case you hadn't noticed - and the latest brainwave from Team Green is a new 'Chat with RTX' demo app.
This software allows you to leverage the power of your RTX graphics card - only RTX 3000 and 4000 GPUs are supported, mind - to run a local chatbot tapping into a large language model (the choices are Mistral and Llama, open source efforts of course).
Then you can use your preferred option, hook it up to some files on your PC, and query this local generative AI, letting it comb through those files for answers to queries.
iPhone 16 Pro leak teases major changes, AI adoption and size increases
We are still many months away from the official next-generation iPhone reveal, and as expected, we already have a slew of rumors to sink our teeth into. All of these aren't confirmed, so take them with a grain of healthy skepticism.
A Korean leaker who is reportedly an avid source of iPhone news has posted a new blog that summarizes all of the leaks that have been surfacing around the internet. These new leaks concentrate on what we can expect out of the iPhone 16 Pro / iPhone 16 Pro Max, and if true, Apple's next-generation iPhone 16 Pro models will come with a few changes. According to the leak, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will arrive with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch OLED panels, respectively.
If the aforementioned display sizes are true, that would mean a slight increase in size for both the Pro and Max models. However, the leaker says this size increase is almost negligible and will hardly be noticed compared to the previous generation. Additionally, the leaker says the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will come with the new Capture button, 48-megapixel ultrawide angle camera, and the A18 Pro chip.
Industry insider explains why EA's 'Immortals of Aveum' was a $125 million flop
Immortals of Aveum was released in August 2023 and was met with hardly any attention, and the attention that it got wasn't what EA was expecting.
The game was released at a time when many heavy hitter titles were also released, such as Diablo 4, Starfield, Baldur's Gate 3, and more. This release window certainly contributed to the game's lack of attention and its eventual failure, as indicated by EA's decision to lay off about 45% of the workforce behind the studio. Furthermore, the studio's CEO, Bret Robbins, blamed the poor performance of the title on the busy release calendar, but that may not be the only reason it failed.
An anonymous former employee at the studio that developed the game spoke to IGN and explained the general idea for the game, combined with the development costs, marketing costs, and the fact that it was a new IP releasing among established IPs was the real reason it failed.
Xbox head responds to claims Microsoft will stop making consoles
The head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has quelled fears that Microsoft is planning on eventually stopping production of Xbox consoles, a theory that was birthed out of the recent reports that Xbox games are coming to PlayStation.
The report that Xbox was going to bring exclusive titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Starfield and more over to PlayStation spawned theories that Microsoft was going to eventually stop production of the Xbox console.
As wild and unfounded as these theories were, they have now been slashed by Xbox head Phil Spencer, who reportedly said at a town hall meeting with fellow Xbox colleagues that Microsoft has no intention of stopping production of the Xbox and that the console remains critical to company's plans moving forward.

Windows may be given a run for its money by a new AI-based operating system
One tech giant is working on a new AI-based operating system that might give Microsoft Windows a run for its money, and it's coming from a company that you might not expect.
It was at CES 2024 that Lenovo's Executive Vice President Liu Jun revealed that the company is currently working on a new AI-based operating system that is expected to be rolled out sometime this year. The decision for Lenovo to develop its own operating system is clearly a part of the company's overall push into AI, which, when looking at the tech market as a whole, AI is seemingly making its way into almost every facet of the technology space and is being adopted by any tech company that can work it into its product.
As for Lenovo specifically, the company is planning on rolling out a batch of AI PCs that are scheduled to hit shelves sometime during the first half of 2024. These PCs will have in-built AI capabilities that are designed to learn how the user interacts with the device while also creating a more seamless and intuitive experience between the product and the user.
GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7900 GRE spotted, cut down Navi 31 GPU set to hit more global markets
GIGABYTE is prepping to launch a new Radeon RX 7900 GRE graphics card with the company's WindForce 3X cooling. It's a design that we've across its entire Radeon and RDNA 3 line-up, from the Radeon RX 7600 to the flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Adding a new GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7900 GRE into the mix is interesting because of the card's origins.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE or Golden Rabbit Edition was created specifically for the Asian and Chinese markets, with the SKU and various models also making their way to other regions (like Australia) for new builds.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE uses the Navi 31 GPU found inside the Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX - albeit cut down. With 16GB of VRAM on a 256-bit bus, 80 RDNA 3 Compute Units, 5,120 Stream Processors, 160 AI Accelerators, and a total board power (TBP) rating of 260W, the card's overall performance sits in between the Radeon RX 7800 XT and the Radeon RX 7900 XT.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang: data is the new gold, all countries should develop 'Sovereign AI'
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang was recently at the World Government Summit in Dubai, where he called for all countries to build their own "sovereign AI."
Huang said: "This is the beginning of a new industrial revolution, is about the production -- not of energy, not of food -- but the production of intelligence, and every country needs to own the production of their own intelligence, which is the reason why there's this idea called"sovereign AI".
He continued: "You own your own data. nobody owns it. Your country owns the data; it codifies your culture, your society's intelligence, your common sense, your history. You own your own data. You, therefore, must take that data, refine that data, and own your own national intelligence. You cannot allow that to be done by other people".
Lenovo cooking up a new ThinkPad laptop with transparent display
Although it sounds like an announcement perfect for CES, it looks like Lenovo is bringing a world first to the Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC) in Barcelona later this month. It's a transparent laptop with a completely see-through display reminiscent of LG and Samsung's transparent displays showcased at CES 2024.
This news arrives via Windows Report, which includes images showcasing the stylish new device. In addition to a bezel-free look for the main transparent display, a transparent glass layer above the base features an illuminated keyboard.
There's no word on the specs or hardware configuration, but based on the desktop wallpaper, it's safe to assume it will be a Windows 11 device.

The Switch platform has generated over $77 billion in lifetime revenues for Nintendo, new company financials indicate.
The Nintendo Switch family of products has achieved incredible success across its 7-year span. Nintendo radically transformed its video games business in March 2017 with the release of the Switch, a device that represented decades of experimentation combined into one hybrid.
It's not just a handheld, it's also a console. The combination of a Wii U and a 3DS, if you will. The Switch unified Nintendo's once-separate hardware divisions and created a synergistic ecosystem that allowed more rapid development of hit first-party games. This led to a high volume of must-play games releasing onto the device that were quickly bought up by consumers.

Nintendo should avoid this costly mistake with the Switch 2
Nintendo needs to avoid resetting the console generation and displacing over 130 million Switch owners in the process.
Moving to a new console generation is a tricky thing to pull off. Asking customers to buy a whole new wave of hardware and software can be a tough prospect. Some companies like SEGA can even exit the market entirely during these transition points due to a combination of factors. Hardware-makers also have to worry about low migration rates to the new system due non-compatible games.
While the core problems of cross-gen navigation remain the same, the proposition of completely resetting game libraries is even more off-putting these days. No one wants to have to buy all new games on top of a $300-500 console. Backwards compatibility is a must for new consoles (I argued it was the single most important feature for the PS5 and Series X/S), and Nintendo isn't exempt from these pressures.

The new MSI Cubi N ADL Mini-PC features an Intel N100 processor with 4 cores and 4 threads -- all E-Cores here for Efficiency across the board -- with a TDP of just 6W and frequencies of up to 3.4GHz aren't bad. Because the CPU only uses 6W, a fanless system has been used for passive cooling goodness. No fans, with a single heatsink that MSI has placed under the chassis of the Mini-PC itself.
Intel's lower-end N100 processor features Intel UHD graphics with 24 Execution Units (EUs) that support 4K60 display output, with MSI using 3 x display connectivity options here: DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB Type-C which all support 4K resolution output. MSI also uses dual 1GbE ethernet connections, providing users with the option of combining the network connections for faster speeds or using this system as a NAS or multimedia server.
