Want Windows 11 on your iPhone? Of course you don't, but it's been done on an iPhone 15 Pro
Windows 11 has been shown running on an Apple iPhone 15 Pro, and it's a pretty cool - if pointless - feat, one that was achieved with Tiny11.
Those familiar with the world of Windows will doubtless recognize Tiny11, the stripped-down version of Microsoft's desktop OS. So, how does this get installed on an iPhone?
Well, via the magic of emulation, as it's all thanks to the release of a new PC emulator, which has only just been approved for the Apple App Store last week.
Elon Musk turns on xAI's new AI supercomputer: 100K liquid-cooled NVIDIA H100 AI GPUs at 4:20am
Elon Musk has just powered on xAI's new supercomputer, powered by 100,000 x NVIDIA H100 AI GPUs worth up to $4 billion at its Memphis Supercluster, the "most powerful AI training cluster in the world".
Elon Musk took to X, posting: "Nice work by xAI team, X team, NVIDIA and supporting companies getting Memphis Supercluster training started at ~4:20am local time. With 100K liquid-cooled H100s on a single RDMA fabric, it's the most powerful AI training cluster in the world!"
NVIDIA's current-gen Hopper H100 80GB AI GPUs cost between $30,000 and $40,000 per AI GPU, so Elon Musk's investment with xAI and its $6 billion raised in May 2024 at a valuation of $24 billion, sees Musk's AI startup investing somewhere between 50% and 67% of its fundraising in purchasing NVIDIA's leading H100 AI GPUs.
Report: GeForce RTX 50 Series delayed to 2025, NVIDIA v AMD GPU showdown at CES
After months of back-and-forth between Q4 2024 and a potential 2025 release for the next-gen Blackwell-powered GeForce RTX 50 Series from NVIDIA, it looks like the latter is going to be the case. Industry insider and leaker @kopite7kimi has taken to X to say they think we won't see the GeForce RTX 50 Series and the new RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 flagship combo until CES 2025.
After reports that AMD was going hold off until CES 2025 before announcing its plans for its next-generation Radeon RX 8000 Series line-up powered by RDNA 4, this news that NVIDIA could also be eyeing a January 2025 reveal in Las Vegas would make for quite the GPU showdown in the desert.
Albeit one where AMD's new flagship will be a mid-range refresh versus NVIDIA's next-gen RTX 4090 killer. For those of us looking forward to picking up a GeForce RTX 5090 this holiday season, this delay is disappointing.
Scientists want to build an information superhighway between Earth and the Moon
For space travel to become an affordable reliable form of transportation Earth needs to be able to communicate quickly and efficiently with our destinations, which will be at first then Moon and then Mars.
Establishing a high-speed data network between Earth and the Moon will enable real-time communication, navigation, and monitoring of missions through sending and receiving audio, images, and video. To achieve this, a team of researchers at the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) and the Beijing Institute of Spacecraft System Engineering proposed a network comprised of 30 satellites and three lunar ground stations.
This network would enable 20 or more travelers to simultaneously communication with Earth in the aforementioned formats. In addition to the communication abilities, the network would also enable researchers to track objects as small as 3 feet in diameter in the region between Earth and the Moon. The project by China is aiming to be rolled out in three stages.

GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs are reportedly hitting 100+ degrees because of cheap thermal paste
Igor Wallossek from Igor's Lab has run an extensive test on a range of GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards from NVIDIA partners like ASUS, Manli, PNY, and Palit and concluded that most are a 'ticking time bomb' waiting to overheat and eventually fail because of cheap thermal paste. It's an explosive report that could have a massive impact on the current GPU market.
The investigation and report are now live (with video) at Igor's Lab. The conclusion is quite convincing, demonstrating how the cheap thermal paste degrades over time and that it only takes a few months to become ineffective. The report claims that this is why PC gamers with cards like the RTX 4080 Gallardo and RTX 4080 TUF Gaming are experiencing hot spot temperatures of over 100 degrees.
Igor Wallossek notes that he began investigating the issue after hearing about it from readers. After extensive testing, he found that cheap thermal paste that degrades over time is the culprit. The good news is that resolving the issue is straightforward.
ASRock launches dual-slot Radeon RX 7900 XTX with 12V-2x6 Power Connector and Blower Fan
ASRock has launched a pair of new Radeon GPUs as part of its new Creator Series - the ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX Creator 24GB and ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XT Creator 20GB graphics cards. The compact two-slot thickness and blower-fan cooling (with bonus Vapor Chamber) indicate that these are designed for "multi-card parallel computing," aka running AI workloads.
The 7900 XT and 7900 XTX are the flagship gaming RDNA 3 GPUs for AMD's Radeon RX 7000 Series. They are 4K-capable cards capable of running the latest PC games. What makes the new Creator Series from ASRock interesting is that it turns them into workstation-first cards. That, and they both come equipped with a single horizontal 12V-2x6 power connector.
The 12V-2x6 power connector is the received and updated version of the original 12V HPWR connector that debuted with the GeForce RTX 40 Series. It was created to minimize issues with cables and connectors overheating. The revised connector can be found in newer GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs, and its introduction here is a first for a Radeon RX 7000 Series GPU.

Diablo 4's new Spiritborn Class can switch between Jaguar, Gorilla, Eagle, and Centipede powers
Diablo 4 is getting a brand-new class as part of the Vessel of Hatred expansion, launching on October 8. The Spiritborn, according to Blizzard, is "an entirely new class in the Diablo series" and hails from the jungles of Nahantu, a location that players will visit as part of Vessel of Hatred. The elevator pitch for the Spiritborn is simple: a marital arts-infused warrior who can harness the power of formidable Spirit Guardians to dispatch the demonic threat plaguing Sanctuary.
Regarding gameplay and mechanics, as a Spiritborn warrior, players can call on skills and abilities from four distinct Spirit Guardians: the Gorilla, the Jaguar, the Eagle, and the Centipede. Finally, players can fulfill their dreams of taking on the role of a powerful Centipede. Okay, so that last one is a little out of left field, but once you see all four in action, it presents a pretty tasty look at how the Spiritborn fits into the current Diablo 4 class lineup.
Players will be able to mix and match the skills and abilities of all four Spirit Guardians: the strength and tank-like resolve of the Gorilla, the fiery speed of the Jaguar, the airborne mobility of the Eagle, and the poison-infused crow control of the Centipede.
Ex-Samsung Display researcher gets 6 years in jail in South Korea, leaked OLED secrets to China
A former Samsung Display engineer is now facing 6 years in prison for leaking 340 billion won (around $24.5 million USD or so) worth of OLED technology to China.
The South Korean lower court found the former senior engineer from Samsung Display guilty of violating the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act. The researcher had been on trial but was allowed out on bail, pending the expiration of their arrest in March 2024, and was recently taken into custody and sentenced on Thursday.
Back in October 2023, the former Samsung Display researcher was indicted on charges of illegally obtaining optical systems for excimer laser annealing (ELA) technology used in the production of Samsung's OLED displays a well as technology used for OCR injects -- which are used to attach outer cover glass on OLED panels -- to sell to Chinese companies between 2018 and 2020.

SCALE tool lets NVIDIA CUDA applications run on AMD Radeon GPUs without modifying code
At its most basic level, Compute Unified Architecture (CUDA) allows general-purpose processing and other tasks to run on NVIDIA GPUs with extensive language support. Since its inception, CUDA has been a game changer. It has been used to tap into the power offered by GPUs for advanced simulation, physics calculations, scientific modeling, crypto mining, and, yes, machine learning.
The latter, and the current AI boom, have been one of the main reasons NVIDIA GPUs have been the go-to for generative AI workloads - developers and researchers alike have been using the CUDA toolkit for years. Widely viewed as the industry standard, this has left GPUs from competitors like AMD looking elsewhere for its software.
That could change as a new startup called Spectral Compute has unveiled SCALE, a toolkit that allows CUDA applications to be natively compiled for AMD's RDNA GPUs. According to its creators, "SCALE does not require the CUDA program or its build system to be modified."
Fractal releases 3D printing files for its tiny 'North Pi' concept Raspberry Pi case
Fractal Design's North mid-tower computer case is still relatively new, but its minimal design mix with stylish wood paneling has made it an instant classic among builders. The Fractal Design North case is pure style and class for those looking for something that is the polar opposite of a glass paneled case showcasing a range of RGB-lit components - and per our review, it has excellent cooling to boot.
At Computex 2024, the company showcased a fun new creation called Project: North Pi, which took the North design and shrunk it down for tiny Raspberry Pi devices. DIY Raspberry Pi systems have been a go-to for many years, as they are brilliant for creating low-power, compact, and efficient media players, emulation boxes, or mini PCs that can handle most basic tasks.
What may have been a fun little showpiece for Computex has now become a reality. Fractal Design is leaning into the DIY spirit of Raspberry Pi devices by making Project: North Pi available to everyone to download as 3D-print files.
President Trump: if Taiwan doesn't pay for US protection, US won't stop China invading Taiwan
President Trump has said that in his new administration, should he win the election later this year, the United States might not defend Taiwan if China invades, that is, unless Taiwan starts paying for US protection.
This has caused chip stocks in Taiwan to tumble, reports Reuters, with semiconductor investors factoring in the continued risk of lost sales to China over US export restrictions. However, President Trump's new comments about Taiwan are a basket of issues for investors and the world.
Throughout my time in the tech industry (close to 23 years now), Taiwan has become a major hub for virtually every technology product and brand. Apple, AMD, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Amazon, Google, Samsung, Sony, and countless others have their chips fabbed at TSMC in Taiwan.
