Johnny Cage has the best fatality in Mortal Kombat 11 so far

Jak Connor | Gaming | Feb 28, 2019 3:00 AM CST

Johnny Cage has made a massive entry into Mortal Kombat 11, kicking, punching and even throwing his sunglasses at his opponents. Not to mention a fatality that will certainly be remembered.

Johnny Cage has the best fatality in Mortal Kombat 11 so far

Johnny Cage is one of the original first seven Mortal Kombat fighters and appeared in the first release of the Mortal Kombat series in 1992. Cage's character is narcissistic Hollywood movie star who has been mostly viewed by the audience as the character that applies some level of comic relief. What we see in today fighter reveal trailer released through the IGN YouTube Channel is exactly that. Cages large variety of moves are quite funny, such as taking photos of his opponent and even throwing his sunglasses at them. Not to mention the brutal combinations of punches and kicks.

Most note worthy though is definitely Cage's 'fatality', the actor takes the opponent to the set of movie theatre where a movie shot is being taken for a 'brutal uppercut'. We see the movie clapperboard with 'take 02' on it, as well as in the director category Mortal Kombat 11's director 'Ed Boon'. Cage attempts to hit the perfect uppercut on his opponent, eventually taking his/hers head off, he then proceeds to throw it at the camera. I would say this has been the most creative fatality we have seen from Mortal Kombat 11 so far.

Starbreeze try salvaging 'OVERKILL's The Walking Dead' hopes

Jak Connor | Gaming | Feb 28, 2019 1:00 AM CST

Starbreeze Studios are trying to salvage the relationship with The Walking Dead IP holder Skybound Entertainment in hopes of rekindling efforts made towards OVERKILL's The Walking Dead.

Starbreeze try salvaging 'OVERKILL's The Walking Dead' hopes

Yesterday, we saw a statement coming out from The Walking Dead's IP holder, Skybound Entertainment. The statement read that the relationship between Skybound and OVERKILL's The Walking Dead's publisher, Starbreeze Studios has been terminated through a cutting of their contract.

The reasoning for the ending of the partnership was due to OVERKill's The Walking Dead not reaching the standards, of not only Skybound Entertainment, but the players as well. The termination of the contract meant that PC gamers would no longer receive support from the developers, and a cancellation of a release on consoles.

NVIDIA rumored to launch GeForce GTX 1660 on March 15

Anthony Garreffa | Video Cards & GPUs | Feb 27, 2019 11:28 PM CST

NVIDIA has been on the offensive this year starting with the release of the new GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, a new $279 graphics card that surprised everyone in terms of price/performance and floors the Radeon RX 590 in the same price point. The Turing-based GeForce GTX family is about to grow by two new offerings; the GeForce GTX 1660 and GTX 1650.

NVIDIA rumored to launch GeForce GTX 1660 on March 15

The news is coming from DigiTimes that sources said NVIDIA is "slated to launch GTX 1660 on March 15 and GTX1650 on April 30, which will bear minimum price tags of US$229 and US$179, respectively". NVIDIA also filled out its sub $350 cards with the GeForce RTX 2060 in January, followed by the $279 card in the GTX 1660 Ti, and now the GTX 1660 will hit $229 and GTX 1650 at $179. This means we have a $50 drop between the new Turing-based GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1660, and GTX 1650 cards.

It allows NVIDIA to better compete against the multiple cards AMD has in those price brackets with the Radeon RX 570/580/590 and then Radeon RX Vega 56 and Vega 64. I don't think anyone would want to buy any Vega card right now, especially with the new GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and RTX 2060 cards on the market. I'm sure this will be revisited by Team Red fans with the launch of Navi in a few months time, but for now NVIDIA has AMD pinned down in all price points and that grip is only going to strengthen with the GTX 1660 and GTX 1650.

Microsoft talks future of PC gaming with next-gen Xbox soon

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Feb 27, 2019 10:28 PM CST

Microsoft is going to have one of the biggest years in its history this year, with all cylinders firing with the unveiling of its HoloLens 2 headset during MWC 2019, and its upcoming unveiling of the next-generation Xbox consoles at E3 2019. But in the middle of all of this is the super-successful Surface line of products, and then the PC and PC gaming markets that Microsoft doesn't really seem to care about.

Microsoft talks future of PC gaming with next-gen Xbox soon

This is something that needs some serious love and attention from Microsoft, something that Phil Spencer as the new head of gaming at the company, will hopefully change. Spencer recently talked with PC Gamer onw hat to expect from the company this year, where during his chat he touched on the future of PC gaming at Microsoft with next-gen Xbox consoles on the horizon, explaining: "Delivering great gaming experience to PC players is critically important to the future of Xbox and gaming at Microsoft". Spencer gets serious, putting it all on the table saying that as the creator of Windows, Microsoft has a "responsibility to invest in new ways we can benefit the PC player to help ensure they stay at the center of the experience".

"While we are proud of our PC gaming heritage, we've made some mistakes along our journey. We know we have to move forward, informed by our past, with the unique wants, needs and challenges of the PC player at the center of decisions we make. I know we've talked quite a bit over time about what we want to deliver for the player on PC, but at E3 this year, and throughout 2019, you'll begin to see where we've been investing to deliver across Store, services, in Windows and in great games. It's just the beginning".

Microsoft could soon release more of its games on Steam

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Feb 27, 2019 9:42 PM CST

Phil Spencer is the now ex-boss of the Xbox division at Microsoft, promoted to VP of Gaming at Microsoft in late-2017 he has been hard at work on the future of gaming for Microsoft with both the PC and Xbox.

Microsoft could soon release more of its games on Steam

PC Gamer recently spoke with Spencer about the world of gaming under his control at Microsoft, with some good questions thrown in about the future of PC gaming, what freedom acquired studios will have under Microsoft, and whether we'll see Xbox Games Studio releases make their way to Steam. That is a big deal on its own, seeing Microsoft unravel some of that tightly gripped control over to a competitor like Steam, but with the likes of every developer and company opening up their own digital distribution platforms it makes sense for Microsoft to relax that grip, even if it's just a little.

Spencer said to the question about future Xbox Games Studios releasing on Steam as well as the Microsoft store with: "It's a good question and something we've spent a lot of time thinking through. I expect us to share more details on our plans here soon". Maybe we could expect some news at E3 2019, which is where Microsoft should also unveil its larger plans for Windows 10 and Xbox gaming, as well as the next-generation Xbox consoles.

Intel details its first hybrid CPU 'Lakefield' on 10nm tech

Anthony Garreffa | CPU, APU & Chipsets | Feb 27, 2019 8:22 PM CST

Intel has kicked off the hype train for its next-gen Lakefield processor, which will be the first to use Intel's new Foveros 3D packaging technology, and will start production later in the year. The teaser below does a great job of what to expect, which will see Intel fighting directly against Qualcomm in the SoC space for the next generation of laptops and portable devices.

Lakefield is going to be one of the most insteresting and tech-packed system-on-a-chip releases this year, with Intel getting to show off its 3D design packaging that will pack a slew of chips, GPU, memory and I/O on top of the main base die.

The two DRAM layers are placed on top of the compute chiplet that houses the CPU and GPU which are both on 10nm, and then placed on top of the base die with cache and I/O.

On the heels of Aquaman's monumental success, Warner Bros. has announced a concrete release date for a sequel starring Jason Momoa.

Aquaman 2 is set to launch on December 16, 2022, Warner Bros. today confirmed. The movie has been in planning phases as early as this month when original screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick returned to pen the script.

With its exotic, stunning visuals and incredible atmospheric storytelling mixed with old-school comic themes, Aquaman is a huge win for the DC brand and pulled in boatloads of cash for Warner Bros. Sony drops PlayStation Plus value by nixing PS3, Vita games

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Feb 27, 2019 3:31 PM CST

Sony doesn't add anything back to fill the big Vita and PS3-shaped holes in its PS Plus service, significantly dropping its attractiveness.

Sony drops PlayStation Plus value by nixing PS3, Vita games

Starting next month, Sony will reduce the overall value of its PlayStation Plus subscription by ceasing free PS Vita and PS3 games. PS Plus will now only include two free PS4 games and nothing else outside of store discounts various promos. March's free games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and The Witness, are pretty good but not amazing enough to offset the value the service loses.

We knew this would happen but we didn't know if Sony would add something new to make up for the loss. I originally thought this move would lead to bigger games offered on PS Plus, but the first month under the new rules isn't as attractive as it should be. This move comes at a point where Sony is constantly re-evaluating ways to increase PS Plus subscriber growth. It recently boosted value by expanding cloud saves to 100GB, but pulling free games is a big mark against the service.

New Alien CGI show is made from Isolation game cutscenes

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Feb 27, 2019 2:06 PM CST

In a strange move, FOX will piece together Alien: Isolation's CGI cutscenes to make a "show" out of. But why? If we're right, their motivations are quite interesting.

New Alien CGI show is made from Isolation game cutscenes

Today IGN announced it'll have exclusive premiere rights to a 7-episode Alien CGI series centered around Amanda Ripley. But rather than being totally original, the series will use pre-existing footage from Creative Assembly's Alien: Isolation masterpiece. "20th Century Fox has expanded on Alien: Isolation by taking the cut scenes from the 2014 game and adding in new story beats to bring the tale of Amanda Ripley to life in a whole new way," IGN writes.

This is a tactical decision on FOX's part, one that ties into its big plans for the Alien game universe. The show is the "watch" part in the company's recent "read, play, watch" Alien marketing campaign. The company is likely re-releasing this footage to remind everyone about Ripley's story and re-engage the audience, ramping up visibility before it drops its big new Alien online multiplayer shooter that's in development at FoxNext for consoles and PC.
