If you want a new smartphone in 2020 with an insane 200-megapixel camera, then you're going to be using Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 865 -- as it is the only SoC on the market that supports 200MP camera sensors.

Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 865 supports 200-megapixel camera sensors

Snapdragon 865 supports up to a 200-megapixel camera sensor, but that doesn't mean every single smartphone will ramp up with a 200MP sensor out of the box, but there will be smartphone makers that want to cram the biggest and most badass beast mode camera into a smartphone and if they want that... there's only one choice for the SoC: Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 865.

Snapdragon 865 can not only shoot 4K 60FPS HDR video, but it can snap 64-megapixel photos at the same time thanks to the improvements Qualcomm made to the Spectra 480 ISP.

Switch sells 830,000 units in US in one week

The Switch won't stop breaking records. On the heels of its big 41 million global sales milestone, Nintendo today announced a huge holiday sales jump driven by Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. The company sold 830,000 Switch consoles in the United States, pushing total U.S. hardware sales to 17.5 million, and breaking the record for the best sales week in Switch history.

The sales spike was driven by introduction of the cheaper handheld-only Switch Lite for $199, as well as strong first-party software like Pokemon Sword and Shield (75% of all Switch owners buy the console just to play first-party games). Discounts and sales were also big drivers to the jump.

Qualcomm is slowly detailing its new Snapdragon 865 mobile platform at its annual Snapdragon Summit event here in Maui, Hawaii -- with more details on the GPU side of things in Adreno 650.

Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU 'most efficient graphics core in the world'

The new Adreno 650 GPU in the Snapdragon 865 has a very decent 25% faster graphics rendering over the previous-gen GPU, while being 35% more power-efficient. Qualcomm said that Adreno 650 is the "most efficient graphics core in the world".

Qualcomm made a strong point that the new Snapdragon 865 and Adreno 650-powered GPU offer sustained performance, versus turning up and killing benchmarks but losing power over time as speeds drop to keep heat and power consumption down.

Qualcomm kicked off development on Snapdragon 865 in 2016

Anthony Garreffa | CPU, APU & Chipsets | Dec 4, 2019 1:24 PM CST

Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon 865 in the opening keynote at its annual Snapdragon Summit here in Maui, Hawaii -- but it wasn't created overnight.

Qualcomm kicked off development on Snapdragon 865 in 2016

On day two of the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm said that IP development on Snapdragon 865 started all the way back in Q4 2016. Rewinding 3 years saw Qualcomm begin its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit, with the first held in New York before trading pavement for sand in Maui, Hawaii for future Snapdragon Summit events.

Back in Q4 2016 and Q1 2017, the world of mobile technology wasn't anywhere near as advanced -- 5G wasn't in phones yet, but Qualcomm had already planted that seed. It was in 2017 that the world saw HDR playback, dual cameras, Gigabit LTE, and the first 90Hz display.

PlayStation 5's main goals: quick load times, accessibility, and power

Sony has two main goals with the PlayStation 5: To make games as available as quickly as possible, and to make them look great.

PlayStation 5's main goals: quick load times, accessibility, and power

The next-gen PS5 is built around power and accessibility, at least that's what developer sources close to the system tell Kotaku's Jason Schreier. The idea is to make a console that delivers tremendous power and speed.

This matches up with everything we currently know about the system. The power aspect is handled by a beefy new CPU and GPU combo built specifically for the console. The PS5 leverages a high-end customized AMD SoC with an 8-core, 16 thread Zen 2 CPU and Navi GPU, which should enable 4K 60FPS and higher frame rates in 1440p and 1080p.

Lockhart isn't dead after all. Sources tell Kotaku that Lockhart is still in development as a cheaper version of Project Scarlett, complete with a dialed-down Zen 2 CPU and Navi GPU SoC and a discless box.

Back in December 2018, rumor had it Microsoft was making two next-gen Xboxs: an Xbox One S successor codenamed Lockhart, and Anaconda, the Xbox One X successor which is now called Project Scarlett. That plan is still underway, sources tell Kotaku.

The Switch is coming to mainland China on December 10, and Nintendo stands to make a killing in the region.

Switch's launch in China is a BIG deal for Nintendo

Nintendo just won the jackpot. In association with Tencent, Nintendo will release its Switch handheld-console hybrid in China for RMB 2,099 (roughly $300) this December with a single localized first-party game, Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Other titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey are coming in 2020. Game cards will also be region free.

The infrastructure will be hosted by Tencent's flexible and powerful servers, including WeChat social media integration. Major AAA publishers like Konami, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and SEGA have pledged to localize their games for the Chinese Switch platform. The newer 16nm Tegra X1 refresh SKU will launch in China, and there's no word on a Switch Lite release.

Halo: Reach PC launch dominates Steam, 150,000+ concurrent players

Halo: Reach launched on PC yesterday, and just within the first hour of its launch players flocked to the game knocking some big names down the ladder of Steams most-played.

Halo: Reach PC launch dominates Steam, 150,000+ concurrent players

According to the Steam Stats website, Halo: The Master Chief Collection reached an impressive 160,000 concurrent players. Just within the games first hour, it reached 100,000 players, and at the time of writing this post its currently sitting around 130,000 still.

The Master Chief Collection isn't 1st on the Steam charts, Steam's big boys like Player Unknown's Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and DOTA 2 are still quite far ahead of Bungie's game. But considering how old this game is, and all the other games that are contained in the collection, this is a pretty nice achievement. If you are after some more information about Halo: Reach for the PC, check out this article here.

Maze Runner director scheduled to create new Planet of the Apes movie

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 4, 2019 3:42 AM CST

A new report has revealed that another Planet of the Apes movie is in the works, and its director will be the man behind the camera for The Maze Runner.

Maze Runner director scheduled to create new Planet of the Apes movie

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Fox has hired Maz Runner director, Wes Ball to develop and direct a brand new Planet of the Apes movie. It's unclear whether or not this movie will be a continuation of the already established franchise or if Fox will decide to reboot the franchise with a fresh director.

The Planet of the Apes franchise has been done many times over. Originally, the first movie in 1968 came from a book by French writer Pierre Boulle. That film's popularity led to sequels being made in TV form, and eventually, in 2001, Tim Burton rebooted the franchise again with Mark Wahlberg. Planet of the Apes got another fresh take in 2011 when Fox released Rise of the Planet of the Apes starring James Franco and Andy Serkis. This sparked two more movies to be made, 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes.

Rick and Morty Season 4 episode 4 teaser video, 'Morty gets a dragon'

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 4, 2019 3:13 AM CST

Who's excited for the next episode of Rick and Morty? I know I am, which means I'll be tuning into episode 4 this Sunday at 11:30 pm. But first, let's check out the released teaser.

Rick and Morty Season 4 episode 4 teaser video, 'Morty gets a dragon'

The official Twitter account for Rick and Morty released the above teaser for season 4's episode 4, and from the video, we learn that this episode will be based around Morty getting a dragon. We know this from one of two reasons, the video's caption "It's the Morty gets a dragon episode" and Rick saying "and that's the end of the Morty gets a dragon episode".

Summer then asks Rick "are you gonna slay it?", Rick then turns around and says, "first off, I always slay it, queen." Then he says, "and secondly, yes." Does it seem that Rick could be referencing Game of Thrones in that sentence? Regardless, he heads down to the basement where Morty's dragon is (which looks extremely similar to The Hobbits Smaug with all the gold it's sitting on), the dragon then breathes fire at Rick. Rick then sarcastically pretends how he didn't think about how dragons breathe fire and uses a hologram to outsmart the dragon and jump on its back.
