Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Sep 4, 2025 1:03 AM CDT

The new Intel Arc Pro B50 GPU is available now, with the AI and workstation-focused graphics card delivering a viable alternative to AMD's Radeon Pro W7500 and NVIDIA's RTX A1000. Based on the 'Battlemage' architecture, it also supports DisplayPort 2.1, multiple displays, and hardware AV1 decoding for editors, with 16GB of GDDR6 memory for $349 - assuming the card is sold at close to MSRP pricing.

Intel Arc Pro B50 GPU launches, $349 for compact AI performance with 16GB of VRAM

Based on the Battlemage BMG-G21 GPU, the hardware consists of 16 Xe2 Cores, four fewer than the gaming-focused Intel Arc B580. However, with a maximum boost clock speed of 2600 MHz and a power rating of only 70W, it's being positioned as an affordable workstation GPU that can be paired with additional Intel Arc Pro B50 GPUs or easily slot into a compact case. Additionally, compared to the Intel Arc B580 12GB gaming GPU, its 16GB of GDDR6 memory is supported by a slower 128-bit interface, resulting in a total memory bandwidth of 224 GB/s.

With the launch of the Intel Arc Pro B50, our friends over at Igor's Lab have posted an in-depth review of Intel's new affordable workstation option, pitting it against AMD's Radeon Pro W7500 and NVIDIA's RTX A1000, and the results are impressive.

Steam Frame trademarked by Valve, filings point to mysterious new hardware

Valve has filed a mysterious new trademark for something called 'Steam Frame,' and it may be the company's next hardware innovation.

Steam Frame trademarked by Valve, filings point to mysterious new hardware

Valve could be preparing for a big showcase of its next-generation hardware, perhaps even some sort of console-and-VR amalgamation combo. The company has applied to trademark the term Steam Frame on the USPTO, and the filings themselves give some clues on what the hardware could be. There is speculation that Steam Frame could be a next-generation platform, complete with Valve's next-gen VR headset alongside a new iteration of the failed Steam Machines PC-console concept.

Then again, if Steam Frame is Valve's next-gen Deckard headset, it won't include console hardware; Deckard is said to be a standalone VR headset coming in late 2025. Given the timing, it's possible that the trademarks are for the Deckard VR headset.

New Final Fantasy Tactics may happen if Ivalice Chronicles remaster sells well

This month will see the release of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, a fully-fledged remaster of the late-90s strategy game. But this somewhat fringe series could live on with a remaster of the 2003 hit Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, or even a new sequel, should the Ivalice Chronicles meet Square Enix's initial sales targets.

In a recent interview with Inverse, Ivalice Chronicles game director Kazutoyo Maehiro says that everyone who worked on the game would "really like to see" Square Enix greenlight another Tactics game.

Sony takes over Microsoft's games store, Helldivers 2 is #1 top paid game on Xbox consoles

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Sep 3, 2025 12:30 PM CDT

Microsoft has taken over the PlayStation Store thanks to exclusivity-breaking games like Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones, and now Sony is doing the same to the Xbox store with Helldivers 2.

Sony takes over Microsoft's games store, Helldivers 2 is #1 top paid game on Xbox consoles

Like its competitor, Sony has also taken over its rival's storefront. Sony currently has more games on the Xbox store's top 25 paid best-sellers list than Microsoft does. Helldivers 2 is doing so well on Xbox that it is currently the #1 top-selling paid game on Xbox consoles, showing the allure of exclusive games and the continued multiplayer might of Arrowhead's live shooter.

Two versions of Helldivers 2 are actually in the top 5 Xbox store best-sellers: The standard $40 version, and the more expensive Citizen Edition version for $60. The new Helldivers 2 x ODST Legendary Warbond isn't included on this list--it's not a game but a premium add-on--so it's hard to say exactly how much influence the bundle had on purchases or adoption. Given it's a Halo crossover DLC, the Warbond probably helped sales quite a bit.

Steam gamers finally catching on to the need for 32GB RAM, they'll soon outnumber 16GB holdouts

Darren Allan | RAM | Sep 3, 2025 11:15 AM CDT

32GB is becoming the new 16GB when it comes to the amount of memory that Steam gamers have inside their PCs.

Steam gamers finally catching on to the need for 32GB RAM, they'll soon outnumber 16GB holdouts

Of course, for a long time, 16GB was seen as a sufficient amount of system RAM for gaming, but those times have changed, and now anyone building a new rig to enjoy big-name PC games equips it with 32GB (or even more, perhaps).

That's now being reflected in the Steam hardware survey, and as Tom's Hardware points out, there's a shift underway towards a 32GB RAM loadout - meaning this is likely to be the most popular memory configuration before too long.

Sony is slated to release a new PS5 Slim All-Digital console, but reports indicate that it will be slightly different than previous releases.

Sony is releasing a new PS5 console, but it's a downgrade

The PlayStation 5 was launched in 2020, and since then, Sony's console has gone through various hardware revisions under the moniker of "chassis". Each of these revisions introduced new improvements to the console, typically in the form of better cooling and power efficiency. Notably, the first-generation PS5, nicknamed the "Fat" PS5, had three chassis versions following it, then in November 2023, Sony officially introduced the first PS5 Slim with the launch of Chassis D.

As with every other Slim PlayStation before it, the PS5 Slim was a significant reduction in size and also introduced the 1TB SSD, a step up from the 825GB within the "Fat" PS5 models. The new 1TB standard was applied to both the digital and standard edition consoles.

NVIDIA is teaching AI human common sense by getting it to make toast

Jak Connor | Artificial Intelligence | Sep 3, 2025 7:33 AM CDT

NVIDIA has detailed in a recent press release that it intends to teach AI what seems obvious to humans: common sense. The company says that visual AI models currently lack this understanding, and if physical AI is ever to come to the real world, it will need to have a grasp on what humans deem common sense.

NVIDIA is teaching AI human common sense by getting it to make toast

Common sense, or the basic understanding that humans develop through real-world experiences, can't be organically learned by AI; the models have to be specifically taught it. In order to teach AI models common sense, a series of tests was developed to coach them on the limitations of the physical world.

For example, NVIDIA's Cosmos Reason model, an open reasoning vision language model (VLM) that is used for physical AI applications such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, and smart spaces, is currently leading when it comes to the physical reasoning (common sense) leaderboard.
