NVIDIA details its new GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition graphics card
NVIDIA has officially revealed its next-gen GeForce RTX 40 series "Ada Lovelace" GPUs with the introduction of the GeForce RTX 4090, and two new GeForce RTX 4080 (16GB + 12GB) graphics cards.
Now that the launch is out of the way, NVIDIA has detailed its upcoming GeForce RTX 40 series Founders Edition graphics cards, discussing the upgrades that are under the RTX 40 series FE hood, and so much more. NVIDIA says that they've further optimized the Dual Axial Flow Through system, increasing fan sizes and fin volume by 10%, and upgrading to a 23-phase power supply.
NVIDIA says that memory temperatures "are reduced", while the new, "substantially more powerful" Ada GPUs are "kept cool in ventilated cases, giving gamers excellent overclocking headroom". NVIDIA is reducing cable clutter once again, with the new GeForce RTX 40 series Founders Edition graphics cards featuring a next-gen ATX 3.0-capaple PCIe Gen5 16-pin power connector.

Star Wars Squadrons devs EA Motive making new Iron Man game
It's official: EA is making a Star Wars game, and its vehicle experts at Motive Studios are developing the project.
EA Motive today announced they are working on a new Iron Man game for Marvel built on an "exciting original narrative" that explores the adventures of billionaire-turned-hero Tony Stark.
The project is a singleplayer-only experience and is currently in very early pre-production; Motive is hiring multiple developers to work on the Iron Man game.

NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 4080 revealed: 16GB model starts at $1199
NVIDIA has finally announced its next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU architecture and with it three new GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards: the flagship GeForce RTX 4090, and two new GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards.
The new GeForce RTX 4080 is exactly as the rumors suggested: split into the RTX 4080 16GB and RTX 4080 12GB. NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 4080 16GB features the AD103-300 GPU made on TSMC's new 4N process node, with 9728 CUDA cores, and a GPU boost clock of up to 2510MHz.
There's 16GB of GDDR6X memory on a 256-bit memory bus clocked at 22.5Gbps, offering up to 720GB/sec of memory bandwidth. NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 4080 16GB graphics card has a default TGP of 320W.

NVIDIA has just announced its next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU architecture and three new GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards, with the new flagship GeForce RTX 4090 finally detailed in all its next-gen GPU glory.
The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card features the AD102 GPU and made on TSMC's new 4nm process node, with a chunky 76 billion transistors inside of the RTX 4090. The new AD102-300 GPU has 16384 CUDA cores and a GPU boost clock of up to 2520MHz (just like all of the leaks have been saying, really).
NVIDIA has its 3rd Gen RT Cores and 4th Gen Tensor Cores inside of the Ada Lovelace GPU-powered GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards, as well as support for NVIDIA's next-gen DLSS 3 upscaling technology. The news is coming directly from Scott Herkelmen, Senior Vice President and General Manager at AMD Radeon who tweeted out the news and told gamers to save the date for RDNA 3.

New global database reveals how much fossil fuels remain worldwide
The first ever database of its kind, built to keep track of fossil fuel production worldwide and its impact on the global carbon budget, has been created and publicized by the Carbon Tracker Initiative.
The Carbon Tracker Initiative worked in partnership with Global Energy Monitor to develop the Global Registry of Fossil Fuels and translates the fossil fuel reserves held by countries and the number of fossil fuels they produce into the resultant amount of greenhouse gas emissions they could release. This allows the Global Registry to show the scale of carbon dioxide emissions associated with the countries in the database and see how they align with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C temperature rise target.
The global carbon budget refers to how many more emissions the atmosphere can absorb before the 1.5°C temperature target set by the Paris Agreement is surpassed. The United Nations (UN) estimates this carbon budget to be about 360 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, or about nine years of emissions based on the current rate.

'Living' artificial cells created by taking parts from bacteria
A study on the new synthetic cells titled "Living material assembly of bacteriogenic protocells" has been published in the journal Nature.
Researchers from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom have made a big leap forward in developing synthetic cells, known as protocells, by using cellular components from bacteria. Making artificial cells more representative of real living cells helps researchers to study cell behavior, but previous approaches using microcapsules haven't been ideal.
To employ bacteria in the process, the team exposed two types of bacteria to micro-droplets of viscous fluid, causing one type to be absorbed into the droplet and the other type to stick to the other droplet's surface. Both bacteria types were then destroyed, and the cellular components within combined with the fluid to become membrane-coated protocells, containing thousands of complex biological components.

Google randomly sent $250,000 to a hacker and he says doesn't know why
The news comes from Yuga Labs security engineer Sam Curry who took to his personal Twitter to reveal he received a mysterious wire transaction from Google for nearly $250,000.
Curry took to Twitter on September 14, writing that it had, at the time, been almost three weeks since Google randomly sent him $249,000 and that he still hadn't heard anything back from the company regarding the support ticket he filed shortly after noticing the payment. Curry tagged Google on Twitter and asked if he could get into contact with the company about the mysterious payment.
A Google spokesperson told CNN that there was a problem on Google's end with the payment and that it shouldn't have gone to Curry but to a different party. The Google spokesperson said that the payment to Curry was a result of "human error" and that the company appreciates that the issue was quickly brought forward so it can be corrected. So, how come this happened?

One of Russia's most advanced tanks found in 'perfect condition'
Ukraine's Defense Ministry has announced that it found and claimed one of Russia's most advanced tanks that were seemingly abandoned in the eastern Kharkiv region.
The announcement comes from Ukraine's Defense Ministry, which took to Twitter on September 19 to write that Ukrainian forces found a T-90M tank, a third-generation Russian tank and latest from the Kremlin, it was first publicly revealed in 2017. Ukraine's Defense Ministry claims that the tank was found in "perfect condition" and that "We ask its owner(s) to contact the #UAarmy. Please identify yourself by a sign: a white flag," the ministry wrote.
The tank was discovered in the Kharkiv region, a region of Ukraine that is experiencing a strong counter-offensive attack by Ukrainian forces. This advancement by Ukrainian forces has resulted in many Russians pulling back and abandoning gained ground and seemingly tanks as well. It was only on Monday that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced on Facebook that Russia has lost 2,212 tanks during the course of the war, which began on February 24, 2022.

NASA announces update on Artemis 1 rocket that failed to launch
NASA's Artemis 1 mission was unfortunately postponed when a fuel leak was identified during the launch of the Space Launch System (SLS) in
The SLS rocket experienced two critical malfunctions when NASA officials detected a liquid hydrogen leak that was traced back to the fuel line seal between the SLS rocket and mobile launcher. The September 3 launch attempt was postponed as a result of the leak as engineers were unable to remedy the problem in time for the launch window to close. NASA has taken to its blog to explain that NASA engineers have analyzed the seals and replaced them.
Additionally, NASA's teams found a small indentation on the eight-inch-diameter liquid hydrogen seal, which has led the team to believe that the indentation contributed at least to some degree to the fuel leak during the launch attempt. NASA writes on its blog that it will be conducting a cryogenic demonstration test on Wednesday, September 21, which is essentially the space agency testing the repairs to the SLS by fueling, running its engines through the necessary processors prior to launch, nd then not launching.

Former Google CEO drops stark warning about China's coming takeover
A new report from the think tank project Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) has concluded that the United States will fall second to China in a major race of the 21st century.
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt chairs the SCSP, and according to the think tanks' newly released report, China is expected to win the technology race on several different fronts if the United States doesn't make certain leaps in various fields. The report states that there are a few key technological battlegrounds that China is advancing in faster than the United States. Those battlegrounds are microelectronics, 5G connectivity, and artificial intelligence.
China beating the United States on several technological fronts may be one thing in itself when purely talking about national pride, but there are very real consequences, such as China controlling the supply of Earth's rare minerals that are used to create the technology. Furthermore, these rare Earth minerals are used for military developments.

Missile strike less than 1,000 feet from nuclear power plant captured
Ukraine's state energy operation announced on Monday that a Russian missile landed just 1,000 feet from Ukraine's second-largest nuclear power plant.
The moment was captured on video and shared by Ukraine's Defense Ministry via its social channels, and according to reports, the missile strike occurred at 12:19 am local time at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant that's located in the Mykolaiv region. The video showcases the purported Russian missile striking the land near the power plant and causing a large initial explosion, followed by a smaller explosion.
Ukraine's Defense Ministry wrote on Twitter that "Russian terrorists" attempted to strike the facility, and that "Russia is a threat to the whole world". This isn't the first time that conflict between Ukraine and Russia has revolved around nuclear power plants, as both nations were engaging in combat near and around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.

iPhone 14 Pro users report critical camera shaking issue on big apps
A group of individuals that picked up Apple's latest flagship phone is reporting experiencing a glitch with their rear camera.
Apple's newest iPhone, the iPhone 14 Pro, has been released and with a selection of new features such as the dynamic island, screen brightness, and camera upgrades, is reports of an unwanted feature that occurs when users attempt to use the camera in certain apps. YouTuber Luke Miani shared a video of his iPhone Pro Max in the Snapchat app, and the camera appears to be shaking while also making a rattling noise. In the video, you can hear Miani say that "you can see it moving," referencing the camera lens on the back of the phone.
In a YouTube video, Miani said that he went back to the Apple store to report the issue and exchanged his defective phone for a new one. However, Miani hasn't been alone, as technology content creator Naaackers reported finding "the first iPhone 14 Pro Max bug" while using TikTok. The issue was the same as Miani, screen shaking accompanied by an unsettling crackling coming from the camera region of the phone.

NASA's Webb snaps its first images of Mars, revealing useful secrets
NASA has released the first images of Mars taken by its new James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and the observations are already providing valuable insight into Earth's neighbor.
NASA has taken to its blog to release the images snapped by Webb and explains that the observatory, which is positioned just a million miles away from Mars, took the images of the side of the Red Planet that was lit by the Sun and facing the telescope. The images were taken on September 5, and according to NASA scientists, there was a challenge to even "see" Mars with Webb since the new observatory is designed to observe objects that are extremely faint and far away.
After some tweaking the with the exposure of Webb's infrared camera and analysis of the received data, researchers were able to observe the entire planet and capture images and spectra that astronomers will use to study patterns, Martian weather, and seasons. The first image released by NASA showcases an area of Mars called the Huygens Crater, a near 280-mile-wide that's located in the Syrtis Major Planum. The image outlines that Webb's NIRCam was used to determine the temperature of the surface and atmosphere by measuring the amount of light that is given off by the planet as it loses heat.

AMD says its next-gen RDNA 3 GPU will be the true leader in efficiency
As we get closer to the big GeForce Beyond special broadcast at NVIDIA GTC 2022 in just over 13 hours' time, we're hearing more and more about AMD's new Radeon RX 7000 series "RDNA 3" GPUs.
AMD has posted up a new "Advancing Performance Per Watt to Benefit Gamers" article on its website, where the company details how important, and how much work it has put into performance per watt. NVIDIA's next-gen GeForce RTX 4090 is expected to have a default 450W TGP, and a massive 660W+ TGP when overclocked, so it comes as no surprise that AMD is highlighting power efficiency.
In the article, AMD answers why performance per watt is so important: producing less heat, consuming less power, and enjoying more performance over longer periods of time on top of saving money (power is getting more expensive worldwide). AMD put everything it learned from their successful Ryzen desktop and mobile processors into their Radeon graphics architecture to make RDNA 2 an "extremely efficient GPU architecture".
