Sam Altman's name has been plastered over headlines across the weekend, with the ChatGPT maker OpenAI founder and CEO being ousted from the company. But did you know he wanted to build an AI GPU that would compete with GPU makers like AMD and NVIDIA?

Altman was working on something codenamed Tigris, according to people familiar with the matter, writes Fortune. The now ex-CEO of OpenAI had been traveling to the Middle East to fund his project with the AI-focused chip company that would be producing chips that would compete against AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and others in the AI GPU space.

The new AI chip company wasn't something big yet -- not even formed -- with talks with investors in their early stages. Altman had been developing the new AI chip with Apple's former design boss, Jony Ive, so it would've been revolutionary and stunning, to say the least.

The world's fastest gaming GPU is no longer officially available in China, thanks to new US government restrictions that restrict sales of powerful GPU hardware that can be used for AI processing. Based on the new export measures, the GeForce RTX 4090 - a GPU designed for PC gaming - falls under the 'banned' list because it's simply too powerful. Every other gaming GPU, including the GeForce RTX 4080 and Radeon RX 7900 XTX, is okay.

As spotted by Videocardz.com, the GeForce RTX 4090 is no longer listed on NVIDIA's website in China - effectively removing it from the official GeForce RTX 40 Series lineup in the region after the restrictions took effect on November 17. The RTX 4090 has even been removed from all official performance charts, so the GeForce RTX 4080 is the most powerful GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU in China.

That said, you can still pick up an RTX 4090 in the region. Several reports indicate that NVIDIA and its partners sent a surplus of RTX 4090 stock into the region ahead of the restrictions. This isn't great news for the rest of the world because GeForce RTX 4090 prices are at an all-time high.

Today has been a crazy day in the world of AI, with ChatGPT superstar OpenAI firing its CEO -- Sam Altman -- out of nowhere, with CTO Mura Murati stepping up into the role of CEO in the interim.

Sam posted on Twitter: "The board of directors of OpenAI, Inc., the 501(c)(3) that acts as the overall governing body for all OpenAI activities, today announced that Sam Altman will depart as CEO and leave the board of directors. Mira Murati, the company's chief technology officer, will serve as interim CEO, effective immediately".

The co-founder and CEO of OpenAI was pushed out of his company after the board accused Altman of "being not consistently candid in his communications". OpenAI's board "no longer has confidence in his ability to lead" and that new leadership was "necessary" for the company to move forward.

NVIDIA's next-gen GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" series gaming GPUs will support the now current DisplayPort 2.1 standard, with NVIDIA quite late to the party considering AMD's current Radeon RX 7000 "RDNA 3" series GPUs have DP2.1 connectivity... and hell, even Intel's current-gen Arc GPU family supports DP2.1.

In some new tweets, leaker "kopite7kimi" replied to someone asking if the new RTX 50 series would support DisplayPort 2.1, to which he replied with a tick, indicating they would. In another tweet, the leaker was asked if he knew the process node that NVIDIA would be using TSMC 3nm.

AMD is currently using the DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR13.5 implementation, which has a maximum bandwidth of 54Gbit/s, but the full UHBR20 implementation of DP2.1 can drive up to a much higher 80Gbit/s of bandwidth. NVIDIA is so late to the party I'd be even more disappointed if they didn't use the higher UHBR20 implementation for DisplayPort 2.1 on the new RTX 50 "Blackwell" series GPUs. NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 5090, GeForce RTX 5080, GeForce RTX 5070, and everything in between -- Ti, SUPER, Ultra, GX2 -- needs to have DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity this time around, seriously.

Monolith's upcoming Wonder Woman game will stay a singleplayer title and is not being morphed into a live service experience.

A bit ago, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav pledged to create more live service titles with an emphasis on engagement and monetization. The quarterly investors' call was actually filled with quite a bit of gaming info and insights, including WB Games' operating margins, and Zaslav expanded on the benefits of GaaS business models. So does that mean all future WB Games will have live services, not unlike EA's titles for a certain period? No, it doesn't.

A job listing on Monolith's website set off some potential alarms that the new Wonder Woman game would somehow turn into a live service game. The listing is specifically for the Wonder Woman game and says that "experience helping maintain a live software product or game" would be a "nice to have" from job candidates.

The Epic Games vs Google trial has revealed some interesting figures on the search giant's app earnings.

The Google Play Store may be bigger than previously thought. According to a new report from the Financial Times, the Epic v Google has unearthed EBIT data for Google's immensely popular Play Store business. FT correspondent Michael Acton attended the trial and notes one of the most surprising numbers we've seen so far: "Epic has alleged Google's operating profit on the Play Store exceeded $12bn in 2021, at a margin of more than 70 per cent,"the passage reads.

To put this number into perspective, a 70% margin that delivered 12 billion operating profit would equate to roughly $17.14 billion in revenues. This is a lot higher than the figure that Microsoft provided to investors as part of its Activision Blizzard King acquisition news cycle; in that report, Microsoft says that Google made about $12.4 billion in revenue from mobile games on the Play Store, not profit.

SpaceX has just conducted its second orbital launch attempt of the world's most powerful and largest rocket, Starship.

The highly anticipated second orbital launch attempt only came to an end minutes ago after the company reported a Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly (RUD), which translates to a big explosion. Despite the fiery ending, the Elon Musk-led company has declared the launch a success, as key objectives were achieved before the explosion took place.

During the livestream, SpaceX explained that the big objective of the day was to get past stage separation, which is the part of the launch that involves the Super Heavy booster disconnecting from the ship. During this launch, the first stage, Super Heavy, successfully disconnected from the second stage, which was a point of critical failure for the first Starship orbital launch. During the first orbital launch, a fire severed communications with Starship, resulting in a separation failure, an eventual tumble, and then a RUD.

An icy comet that is racing toward Earth has given its largest outburst yet, spewing its icy innards out into surrounding space and forming its iconic "horns".

The comet is none other 12P/Pons-Brooks, an absolutely massive comet that's estimated to be 18 miles wide, or approximately three times the size of Mount Everest, has been in astronomy spotlight for quite some time as it makes its journey toward the inner solar system. As its getting closer to the Sun our local star is heating the surface of the icy comet, specifically the material under its icy crust. This heating process produces a gas that then builds beneath the crust eventually bursting out violently.

These eruptions can be seen as significant increases in brightness levels, as the massive outgassing provides more mass for the Sun's light to bounce off of, which is then seen by astronomers as an increase in the comet's overall size. In the instance of 12P/Pons-Brooks, this iconic comet grows its "devil horns", which seemingly forms into a halo-like coma.

Mars is simply going to disappear from Earth's skies for two whole weeks, but there is nothing to worry about - the Red Planet will be back!

NASA has taken to its website to explain that it will be severing communications with all its robots currently stationed on the surface of Mars as the Red Planet is moving into what is called a "solar conjunction". So, what does this mean? Solar conjunction is a phenomenon that occurs once every two years, and it is when the Sun moves directly in-between the line of sight Earth has with Mars, obscuring our planet from any sight of the Red Planet for a period of two weeks.

While Mars is completely out of sight, its emissions are also problems. Our host star gives off hot, ionized gas continuously, which has the chance of corrupting radio signals sent from Earth to Mars. These corrupted radio signals can cause strange behaviors to happen within the robots that receive them. Commands can get mixed up, and there is the potential for catastrophic failure. Due to these risks, NASA has decided to halt all communications with Mars until the Sun is out of the way.

Last year, a rocket crashed into the dark side of the moon, or the side of the moon that we never see due to the tidal locking.

Astronomers weren't really surprised by the crashed rocket as they were tracking the object through space for many weeks and found that its trajectory lined up perfectly, or not so perfectly, with the surface of the moon. The rocket was called WE0913A, and upon collision with the lunar surface, it created two craters that were then spotted by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). Initially, astronomers thought the rocket belonged to SpaceX and was an upper stage of a Falcon 9 rocket that was launched in February 2015.

However, those suggestions have now been thrown out the window as a group based in the University of Arizona nailed down WE0913A is actually a Long March 3C rocket body (R/B) from the Chang'e 5-T1 mission. These results were penned in a new study that was published in the Planetary Science Journal on November 16. The team came to their conclusions through trajectory and spectroscopic analysis using ground-based telescope observations.
