Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games has reportedly been hit by a ransomware attack, and confidential data is believed to have been compromised.

Reports indicate that Insomniac Games has been hacked by Rhysida ransomware, and that sensitive company and employee information may have been attained by threat actors. Sony has acknowledged the reports, and has confirmed its investigating, but has not announced whether or not the attack took place.

Rhysida perpetrators have posted up images of leaked information to serve as proof of hacking, complete with multiple snapshots of confidential documents, employee tax records, emails, passports, and an unreleased snapshot of Insomniac's upcoming Wolverine game. The data is being auctioned off with the starting price at $2 million, or 50 bitcoin.

Usually, when I'm writing about a new mouse for PC on TweakTown, it's about that thing that plugs into your PC for pointing and clicking, so it's nice to take a little break from that to talk about a new PC game due to arrive in 2025 called Mouse. It is a new first-person shooter with retro-inspired gameplay from the Doom era; however, the visual style and art direction are all about classic 1930s cartoons. Most notably, Disney's iconic Steamboat Willie animation from 1928.

If you're a fan of Cuphead, which applied a similar sensibility to the classic 2D platformer and side-scrolling bullet-hell genre, Mouse is something to watch. Over on the game's Steam page, developer and publisher Fumi Games described Mouse as a "gritty, jazz-fueled shooter" that is "inspired by classic FPS and noir films."

What stands out in this trailer is how the animation faithfully recreates the over-the-top cartoon violence of animation from the first half of the 20th century. From headshots to tommy guns and what looks like an 'ultimate' ability that gives you fast-firing finger guns, a lighthearted and comedic tone nails the old-school cartoon vibe.

AMD's Chief Financial Officer Jean Hu has said that the AI PC will drive consumer sales in 2025, but we won't see the fruits of AI PC labor in 2024 as much as we will in the year after.

Hu said that the PC industry is moving towards recovery in the post-pandemic world, with revenue forecasts and consumer demand to increase in 2024-2025.

AMD CFO Jean Hu said during the Barclay Global Technology Conference: "Going forward, you will see the typical seasonality in Q1 and then, you know, next year, based on industry and it's economic-sensitive sector, too. So, we don't know what the macroeconomic situation will be. But in the end, the PC market is stabilized".

Earlier this year, Linux hit its highest market share in decades, and even though that meant only 3% of PCs were rocking the open-source operating system, it was still something to celebrate for Team Penguin. Still, the long-standing OS will continue to receive updates and improvements for the foreseeable future.

One of these updates is a long-standing feature from Windows that is finally making its way to Linux, the Blue Screen of Death or BSOD. Windows users know all about the Blue Screen of Death, a full-screen error message that follows a full system crash requiring a complete reboot. With error codes and messages, it also doubles as a troubleshooting tool to figure out what's going on.

The Blue Screen of Death will work similarly in Linux, with the new system-BSOD component (currently listed as "experimental") generating an error message and QR Code when a Linux system crashes.

THE FINALS is a new competitive shooter from Embark Studios, a team of veteran developers who worked on iconic entries in the Battlefield series. It got a surprise release during The Game Awards 2023, and with its impressive visuals, destructible environments, and a compelling loop, it's proving to be a massive hit among PC gamers.

At The Game Awards 2023, we got another brilliant-looking trailer with a release date of August 20, 2024.

Watching the trailer a few times, this is one of those "mark your calendar" games, and today we've got confirmation from NVIDIA that all of the footage in the trailer was captured on a "GeForce RTX 40 Series PC" with DLSS 3 Frame Generation enabled.

US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said that the US government is looking into the three new AI GPUs that NVIDIA is developing for China, making sure Team Green isn't breaking any new rules that the Biden administration has slapped down with its recent US sanctions.

During an interview with Bloomberg News when Raimondo was visiting Nashua, New Hampshire, she said: "We look at every spec of every new chip, obviously to make sure it doesn't violate the export controls. We talk to NVIDIA regularly, and I should say they're a good partner. We have a close working relationship with them. They share information".

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning was asked about the US actions on Tuesday, where they said that they "undermine the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and will not be conducive to the stability of the global and industrial supply chains". NVIDIA has just released its new GeForce 546.33 WHQL Game Ready drivers, which provide Game Ready support and optimizations for THE FINALS and Squad.

The new GeForce 546.33 WHQL Game Ready drivers also include specific DLSS optimizations for Fortnite Chapter 5, which was just released, as well as adding GeForce Experience support for six new games. Not only do we have the game-specific optimizations, but the new drivers fix issues with Discord, where colors were appearing muted when streaming gameplay, and the general bug where a new NVIDIA icon is created in the system tray every time a user switch happens in Windows.

The new GeForce Experience support includes the following games: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, The Day Before, THE FINALS, THRONE AND LIBERTY, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, and Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of the Ruins.

AMD's next-gen RDNA 4 GPU architecture has popped up with recent patches for Linux again, with the company adding patches for their AMDGPU LLVM shader compiler.

Previously, AMD didn't push into Linux as hard as their competitors like Intel and NVIDIA, with the new patches not offering anything overly exciting, but instead, it's just traditional instructions support, updating existing hardware registers, and a bunch of pull requests for "GFX12".

We don't know anything more about RDNA 4 than we did yesterday, but what's interesting here is that AMD is forming its graphics driver for Linux with early support for its next-gen GPU architecture. Wccftech ponders that AMD is going to have increased competition to open-source alternatives including MESA's Vulkan driver. AMD could have improved support for next-gen architectures from here on out, even though RDNA 4 is most likely at least a year away.

Known insider Kepler issues corrections to the recent PlayStation 5 Pro spec leaks.

On Saturday, an anonymous ResetERA user posted a thorough spec sheet for Sony's rumored PS5 Pro. On paper, the PS5 Pro aka Project Trinity looks like a significant upgrade over the existing PS5, offering a beefier RDNA 3-powered GPU with dedicated raytracing hardware and an implied 28TFLOPs of single-precision (FP32) power. The PS5 Pro's secret sauce is a new custom AMD chip called Viola, which leverages tech from both RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 architectures. There's just a few problems with these numbers.

Graphics insider and known leaker Kepler has found some discrepancies with the PS5 Pro's spec sheet. Kepler notes that the Pro will use 60 out of the 64 CUs available, not the 56 CUs that was included in the original report. This would put the PS5 Pro's GPU at 3840 Stream Processors, the same amount found in RX 7800 XT graphics cards, which is a stark contrast to the 3584 Stream Processors from the first report.

End of an era: Gaming's largest video games event, E3, is officially gone for good.

E3 has been permanently cancelled and the show has been retired. The Entertainment Software Association today announced the news to a beleaguered video games industry plagued by layoffs and an ever-dwindling press. Coming off the heels of two consecutive years of cancellations, a privacy controversy, and a digital event that mostly failed to gain traction, the news isn't exactly a surprise. But for people like me who had the privilege in attending E3 as press, the news comes as a blow to an already-shaky industry.

"After more than two decades of hosting an event that has served as a central showcase for the U.S. and global video game industry, the ESA has decided to bring E3 to a close," ESA CEO and president Stanley Pierre-Louis tells The Washington Post.

Yesterday, Bethesda rolled out a new update for Starfield that nixed the frustrating "pet asteroid" glitch, and the studio actually responded on the official Starfield Reddit with a surprising bit of info. In the post, Bethesda teased that "all new ways of traveling" would be part of its update roadmap.

UFO whistleblower David Grusch, a career intelligence official, claimed the US government was covering up secret UFO programs that involved capturing downed UFOs, back-engineering discovered technology, and even discovering biologics at sites of crashed UFOs.

Since the explosive interview aired with Grusch back in June on NewsNation, the former intelligence official has been attempting to get as much information about the program as possible to the public. Grusch is taking the by-the-book method, and in July, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer introduced legislation to declassify government records related to UFO sightings and programs.

However, some House Republicans voted against key portions of Schumer's UAP disclosure bill, citing transparency issues related to national security. The lawmakers pushing for this disclosure of information related to UFOs are now questioning the motives behind the lawmakers that are citing national security threats because if there is nothing to hide, which the Pentagon has absolutely denied, then there shouldn't be any problem with a disclosure.

Only a few days after releasing the early access of The Day Before, developers Fntastic have announced the studio is closing, as they have simply run out of money.

The announcement came to the official Fntastic X account, where it explained that the developer has "failed financially" and that it "lacks the funds to continue". Notably, The Day Before quickly rose to the top of Steam's best-seller and most-played games list, before it was quickly smacked with a myriad of negative user reviews that were reporting widespread bugs that caused the game to crash and server issues.

Additionally, some users have claimed that Fntastic has misled gamers into thinking they were getting a survival MMO, but when the early access hit, the game was an extraction shooter. The last update for The Day Before occurred on December 8, and it seems it will be the last one it will ever get where critical bugs are addressed.

GIGABYTE has officially announced a new super ultra-wide gaming monitor that comes with AI-infused technology to reduce burn-in.

Notably, the panel used in the GIGABYTE AORUS CO49DQ uses a super ultra-wide QD-OLED panel by Samsung, which covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color space with 10-bit color depth.

The CO49DQ comes with a trick up its sleeve, has AORUS uses an AI algorithm to minimize the risk of burn-in issues. As for connectivity, the CO49DQ comes with 5W speakers, two HDMI 2.1 inputs, a DisplayPort 1.4 input, a USB 3.2 Type-C port with 18W power delivery (PD), and DP Alt Mode, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a USB 3.2 Type-B port, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

"Victory over Google!" writes Epic Games' Tim Sweeney after the jury handed down a verdict in favor of Epic in its case against Google, which the company sued for allegedly running its app store and billing service as a monopoly. Epic Games, the creator of the super popular Fortnite (which this is all about), began its legal battle against Apple and Google three years ago - and earlier today, it recorded a landmark victory.

"After four weeks of detailed court testimony, the California jury found against the Google Play monopoly on all counts," Tim Sweeney continues in his post-victory post on X. "The Court's work on remedies will start in January. Thanks for everyone's support and faith! Free Fortnite!"

The ruling was a unanimous yes to the question of Google's monopoly power on the Android platform, app distribution, and billing services. It was also a yes to Google acting in an anti-competitive fashion and, in the process, harming Epic Games. In a post on its website, Epic Games calls the victory "a win for all app developers and consumers around the world."

AOC and Porsche Design are excited to unveil the AGON Pro PD49, a 49-inch curved super ultra-wide gaming monitor that comes with 5,120 x 1,440 pixels, with a juicy 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.03 response time (GtG). Notably, the PD49 supports up to 1,000 nits, is 1800R, supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400, and uses the same panel found in the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9, a 48.9-inch QD-OLED panel.

Since the display is OLED, it's extremely thin, only measuring 5 mm wide, and if you were wondering about connectivity, AOC and Porsche Design have equipped it with everything you would need. There are two HDMI 2.1 inputs, two DisplayPort 1.4 inputs, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a LAN port, four USB 3.2 Type-A ports, and a USB 3.2 Type-C upstream port. One of Apple's largest suppliers is making moves internally to prepare for an Apple to order displays for foldable iPhones and iPads, according to a recent report from The Elec.

The new report states that Samsung Display has carried out an "organizational reorganization that focuses on its capabilities to respond to Apple foldable" and that Samsung Display is already "ahead of its competitors" in providing high-quality OLED panels for smartphones.

Additionally, the report states that Samsung Display is looking for a new "growth engine," and it believes foldable devices will be its new cash cow, hence its decision to make internal moves to position itself appropriately for when Apple makes foldable orders for future, unannounced devices.
