Anthony Garreffa | Artificial Intelligence | Jun 11, 2024 12:15 AM CDT

Apple unveiled its new ChatGPT-powered "Apple Intelligence" during its WWDC 2024 event, with a slew of new AI features... with smartphone competitor Samsung taking to its X account and posting this:

Samsung mocks Apple on AI: says 'adding 'Apple' doesn't make it new or groundbreaking'

Samsung said: "Adding 'Apple' doesn't make it new or groundbreaking. Welcome to AI" taking a stab at Apple's just-announced Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence will launch with iOS, iPadOS, and macOS later this year... but most of these AI-powered features are already on plenty of Android-powered smartphones.

Samsung wasn't finished with the 'mean tweets' with another post on X that read "Moving my icons wherever I want since 2010... isn't that cool?" If you thought it was just Samsung jumping in on mocking Apple and its new ChatGPT-powered Apple Intelligence, you'd be wrong... smartphone maker Nothing also got on the mocking train, with this simple post on X:

Patriot Memory pushes performance to the limit at Computex 2024

Jak Connor | Storage | Jun 11, 2024 12:10 AM CDT

Patriot is no stranger to pushing performance to the absolute limit, and Computex 2024 was no exception. The company has shown why it's a global leader in high-performance memory, storage, and more.

Patriot Memory pushes performance to the limit at Computex 2024

Patriot has introduced a new era of speed when it comes to DDR5 memory by pushing its Viper Xtreme 5 series to an astonishing 8,200 MT/s and 11,500 MT/s when overlocked. Patriot told me that this new overlocking benchmark has enabled a new level of speed that is now being adopted by overclockers around the world and has resulted in new records being set in various configurations.

The company also presented a new collaboration with MSI with the Viper Xtreme 5 RGB DDR5 MPOWER series, which has specifically been designed for gamers and overlockers. The new series is capable of reaching 8,000 MT/s and capacities up to 48GB. This combination of speed and capacity will provide gamers and workstation rigs the performance they are looking for when wanting to go as fast as humanly possible.

Antec impresses with its new cases: the C8 Curve, Flux Pro, and compact Performance 1M

Kosta Andreadis | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Jun 10, 2024 11:56 PM CDT

At Computex 2024, Antex showcased several very cool cases and cooling products, with its newest offerings impressing us the most. From the stunning fishbowl design with the curved glass of the C8 Curve to the retro-futuristic Flux Pro and the new mini-ITX prototype, the Performance 1M - Antec's cases for 2024 look very tasty.

Antec impresses with its new cases: the C8 Curve, Flux Pro, and compact Performance 1M

The C8 Curve is the latest addition to Antec's C8 series. The Curve in the name refers to it featuring curved tempered glass that wraps around the side and front panel. Antec hasn't specified its pricing yet, but we expect it to be the high-end model in the company's well-priced C8 series of cases.

This was easily one of the best-looking cases at Computex, thanks to the curve, mesh top panel, and woodgrain finish on the front. Spec-wise, it's a dual chamber case big enough to house a full water-cooled setup with three 360mm radiators. Antec plans to ship the case without fans (which should bring the price down).

Computex 2024 has wrapped up, and Lian Li, just like every year, has some interesting new products to showcase.

Lian Li unveils new intuitive EDGE PSU series at Computex 2024

Lian Li gave me a tour of their booth in Taipei and demoed to me their new EDGE power supply series, which has put a new spin on what could be the most unchanged aspect of a PC build - power supplies. Lian Li has implemented a new L-shaped design that enables much easier access to the PSU for cable connections. This change actually earned Lian Li a TweakTown award, as it was the much-needed change the PSU industry needed.

More specifically, the EDGE PSU series comes with an 80 Plus Platinum efficiency rating, with the EG850 being rated at 80 Plus Gold. As you can probably imagine, the entire series of new PSUs is fully modular and comes with sleeved cables and connectors. Additionally, Lian Li has implemented a 12VHPWR connector design. I was told on the showroom floor that some models will arrive in black and white color options, with the EG850 Mesh model launching soon in just black for $119.99, the 1300W model in black for $229.99, and $239.99 for white.

Microsoft has recently wrapped up its Xbox Games Showcase where it announced a slew of new titles it currently has in the works under its multiple labels.

Xbox unveils Age of Mythology: Retold in new epic nostalgia-triggering trailer

One of the titles Xbox showcased during its show is a franchise that is more than 20 years old, and that is Age of Mythology (AOE). originally developed by Ensemble Studios, SkyBox Labs, and Westlake Interactive in 2002, the iconic real-time strategy game took players deep into the world of mythological stories by enabling players to embody gods that fell under different ancient pantheons.

For example, players could select from Norse gods, Thor, Odin, and Loki, while also having the option of choosing from Greek gods, Egyptian and Atlantean. Choosing a certain god gave the player a different build for the upcoming ages they would move through as their civilization advanced. For example, if a player were to choose Zeus, they may be gifted with a Pegausus, while Hades players' infantry will have higher defense and damage.

Apple is expanding satellite connectivity to iMessage for its iPhones

Anthony Garreffa | Connectivity & Cloud | Jun 10, 2024 8:54 PM CDT

Apple's current satellite connectivity system is exclusive to its "Emergency SOS" feature, but the company has promised some rather big changes coming to iMessage, which will let users send text messages in cellular dead zones.

Apple is expanding satellite connectivity to iMessage for its iPhones

The company just held its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) event, with Apple Intelligence announced -- you can read more about that here -- new features for iOS 18, and so much more. One new feature of iOS 18 is the ability to beam iMessage data to orbiting satellites instead of using traditional cell towers. The only requirement? You'll need a clear view of the sky, obviously.

Apple designed its satellite connectivity to maintain end-to-end encryption over iMessage, with the same feature capable of sending SMS messages to orbiting satellites to people not using iPhones. Apple has been pretty quiet about what exactly to expect from its expanded Messages via satellite service, so we don't know if it will be free or not just yet. Exciting to see, especially as SpaceX is preparing to offer satellite connectivity to iPhones and Androids smartphones through a new cellular Starlink service.

AMD's next-gen mid-range Zen 5-powered Ryzen 5 9600X ES overclocked to 5.7GHz on all cores

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Jun 10, 2024 8:07 PM CDT

AMD has one of the best mid-range processors on the market with its Zen 4-based Ryzen 5 7600X, but the next-gen Zen 5-based Ryzen 5 9600X looks to be a champion.

AMD's next-gen mid-range Zen 5-powered Ryzen 5 9600X ES overclocked to 5.7GHz on all cores

In some new leaks, we're seeing that a Ryzen 5 9600X engineering sample (ES) processor being overclocked to a very nice 5.7GHz across all cores, up 300MHz from its max CPU boost clock of 5.4GHz. AMD isn't just cranking the CPU clock speed by 100MHz from the Ryzen 5 7600X, but the internal Zen 5 CPU architecture will provide IPC improvements, and a much lower 65W TDP is welcomed (105W on the 7600X).

The leaker posted some CPU-Z benchmark results, where we can see single-threaded performance with 871 points, and multi-threaded performance at 7096 points at all-core 5.7GHz. This is compared to 776 points and 6201 points for single-threaded and multi-threaded performance, respectively, on the Zen 5-based Ryzen 5 9600X ES chip at its stock 5.4GHz.

Polar Therm is a new thermal paste designed to beat Arctic Cooling, it's from Thermal Grizzly

Kosta Andreadis | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Jun 10, 2024 7:57 PM CDT

Value for money goes a long way when you're putting together a new build from scratch. Once you factor in the various components, the case, fans, and bits of all-in-one liquid cooling, you must also shell out for some thermal paste for optimal performance. On that front, Thermal Grizzly products are considered some of the very best. However, there are cheaper alternatives whose overall performance might not be up there - but it's decent enough for most builds.

Polar Therm is a new thermal paste designed to beat Arctic Cooling, it's from Thermal Grizzly

This is where Polar Therm comes in, starting with the affordable X-8 thermal past that our friends at Thermal Grizzly say offers better thermal conductivity for air and water cooling than comparatively priced Arctic Cooling products.

Polar Therm X-10 is the more premium of the two but still affordable. It offers excellent performance and a more premium product - once again, created to compete directly with Arctic Cooling.

Say goodbye to GPU cables overheating with the WireView Pro from Thermal Grizzly

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Jun 10, 2024 7:52 PM CDT

The switch to the new 12VHPWR or 12V-2X6 power connector standard for modern GPUs (specifically NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40 Series) was a rocky transition, to say the least. For the high-end flagship GeForce RTX 4090, which draws up to 450W (that can be pushed higher), a steady stream of reported melted power connectors fusing with a GPU's PCB led to multiple investigations and even a redesign of the connector for the SUPER Series.

Say goodbye to GPU cables overheating with the WireView Pro from Thermal Grizzly

The cable melting issue might not be in the headlines every single day like it was back when the GeForce RTX 40 Series launched, but it's still an issue and something to be concerned about.

This makes the new WireVew PRO device we saw at Computex 2024 one of the most innovative little gadgets (especially for enthusiasts, reviewers, and overclockers). It's a simple monitoring device designed to mitigate issues relating to 12VHPWR or 12V-2X6 power connectors.
