HAVN is a new premium case brand and company's first case is impressive

Kosta Andreadis | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Jun 11, 2024 7:46 PM CDT

Looking at all of the new cases at Computex this year was like visiting an aquarium, thanks to seemingly every case maker adopting the 'fishbowl' design. The new HAVN HS 420, available in black and white and with an optional VGPU kit, falls into this category - however, the new case maker's first chassis is impressive.

HAVN is a new premium case brand and company's first case is impressive

First up, the wraparound glass panel and panoramic view are presented via a single piece of custom glass called Unisheet Heatformed Glass, with a curved bend. It's seamless with minimal distortion and no visible seam and blends perfectly with the open design that includes fan intake on the bottom of the case with vents pulling in cold air.

With 541 x 260 x 547mm dimensions, it's not SFF; there is ample room for larger GPUs, radiators, and fans to show off your build or even add a display. HAVN is a new company built by a team with several years of experience designing cases for Fractal, NZXT, Wistron, and Corning.

NVIDIA reportedly has 98% of the AI GPU market, ships almost 4 million AI GPUs in 2023

Anthony Garreffa | Artificial Intelligence | Jun 11, 2024 7:18 PM CDT

NVIDIA has had a mega-successful last 12+ months riding the AI wave, with data center GPU shipments hitting 3.76 million units according to semiconductor analyst firm TechInsights.

NVIDIA reportedly has 98% of the AI GPU market, ships almost 4 million AI GPUs in 2023

NVIDIA has an absolutely dominant 98% market share in AI GPU shipments for 2023, with 3.76 million AI chips shipped. However, if you add AMD and Intel AI processor shipments, the total number only goes to 3.85 million. This means that AMD and Intel shipped only 710,000 AI accelerators, compared to the 3.76 million shipped by NVIDIA alone.

This also means that NVIDIA has 98% market share of AI GPU revenue, with $36.2 billion -- that's 3x the revenue of 2022, which stood at $10.9 billion -- while AI processor alternatives are coming from Google with its TPUs, AMD with its Instinct AI accelerators, Intel's Gaudi AI accelerators, and CPUs that feature NPUs for AI workloads.

Latest Windows 11 update fixes the nasty bug that caused the taskbar to vanish or glitch out

Yes, today is Patch Tuesday for June in case you hadn't realized, and as ever, the cumulative update for Windows 11 was tested in an optional update at the end of the preceding month.

In this case, that May preview update came afflicted with a gremlin in the UI works whereby the taskbar would temporarily glitch out and fail to respond, or vanish entirely before reappearing - a pretty frustrating sounding bug.

NASA captures the most powerful solar flare released in the last 7 years

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jun 11, 2024 11:32 AM CDT

Officials at NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) confirmed on June 8 the Sun released a record-breaking solar flare that was the most intense flare released in the last seven years.

NASA captures the most powerful solar flare released in the last 7 years

Researchers that conduct round-the-clock tracking of our local star confirmed the solar flare came from sunspot region AR3664, which was calculated to be an M9.7-class solar clare, the second strongest type on the solar flare classification scale. For those that don't know, solar flares are massive, intense bursts of electromagnetic radiation that are a result of the Sun's ever-chaging magnetic field contorting, twisting and snapping.

The blast can cause an impact on Earth, resulting in space launch's being postponed due to the charged particles hitting Earth's atmosphere and widespread radio communication blackouts. Additionally, a solar flare is typically followed by a cornal mass ejection (CME), a wave of charged particles released by the Sun that can cause geomagnetic storms.

Apple has just unveiled iOS 18, the largest update to its operating system powering millions of devices around the world and one feature just made them all much more private.

Apple just made passing your iPhone to someone much less stressful

At Apple's WWDC event, the Cupertino company unveiled its highly anticipated iOS 18 update, which is expected to be released alongside the new iPhone 16 later this year. The announcement revealed Apple is rolling out major changes to its operating system that will include the integration of what it calls Apple Intelligence, or its own version of AI, massive improvements to Siri through the AI implementation, user interface overhauls, customization, and new privacy features.

The update is truly massive, and prior to its unveiling was considered by Apple developers as possibly the largest operating system update its ever made. Privacy is a big part of iOS 18 as there is a large number of people concerned about the company's AI scanning all of users private data in return for new features, which is why Apple made it such a point that user privacy is at the forefront of its consideration with the new update.

Microsoft announces major changes to Windows Recall following controversy

Jak Connor | Artificial Intelligence | Jun 11, 2024 9:51 AM CDT

Just before the weekend, Microsoft announced it was making changes to the controversial incoming Windows 11 features that will be exclusive to the company's Copilot+ PCs.

Microsoft announces major changes to Windows Recall following controversy

That feature is Windows Recall, which is a Copilot+ PC tool that enables users to access different times on their PC through screenshots the PC is continuously snapping. These snapshots are of the users desktop and don't hide any potential sensitive information, and are also stored in a single folder. Security researchers and the public raised serious concerns with Microsoft about the potential of hackers gaining access to the folder and the ramifications that could follow.

Microsoft has since responded and said it is adding additional security measures and encryption to Recall, making it much harder for a bad actor to gain access to Recall's data stored on a user's PC. Now, Microsoft has quietly pulled the build of Windows 11 24H2 update, which contains the Recall feature and was being tested in its Release Preview channel - usually the last stop before a Windows update is rolled out the public.

AMD Ryzen 9000 X3D processors release date rumors spark after Computex 2024

Jak Connor | Processors | Jun 11, 2024 8:23 AM CDT

Computex 2024 has finally wrapped up, and the madness of the AI-based announcements from various companies has returned to a steady yet exponentially growing stream. Amongst the talk of new AI innovations was CPU hardware - new chips from both Intel and AMD.

AMD Ryzen 9000 X3D processors release date rumors spark after Computex 2024

A new rumor has surfaced from Club386, who said they spoke to an unnamed source at Computex that informed them AMD was planning on releasing its new 3D V-cache-equipped version of new Ryzen 9000 processors sometime in September. If this rumor is true, AMD would have achieved a new record in terms of how soon they release the X3D version of new CPU generations. For example, AMD released the X3D version for its Zen 3 CPUs 18 months later, while Zen 4 was six months later.

So, what models of new Ryzen 9000 series CPUs will be getting the extra 64MB slices of extra L3 cache? Judging from what has already been announced by AMD, it won't be surprising if the company's top contending CPUs are selected, which appear to be the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 12-core 9900X3D and an 8-core 9800X3D. That doesn't rule out the possibility of some mid-range CPUs getting some X3D variants, as AMD did say they were currently testing "cool differentiators" with the cache technology.

I don't know why, but I'm super excited for this photorealistic Ant game

Jak Connor | Gaming | Jun 11, 2024 2:52 AM CDT

Being PC a gamer means you are exposed to an unfathomable number of new games that are released on Steam, and with the more than 100 new games released almost every day on Valve's platform some simply slip through the cracks of your gaming radar.

I don't know why, but I'm super excited for this photorealistic Ant game

I believe one of those titles is Empire of the Ants, developed by Tower Five and published by Microids. This soon-to-be-released real-time strategy (RTS) game is powered by the latest version of Epic Games' stunning Unreal Engine 5, specifically Unreal Engine 5.4, and will take players on a journey that's based on the famous French novel of the same name (Les Fourmis) by Bernard Werber.

Personally being a big fan of real-time strategy games, as they were the catalyst to my now profound love for gaming, Empire of the Ants will let players assume the role of 103,683e, a determined ant on a mission to protect its colony. Microids explains the title will force players to make critical decisions that will need to be heavily considered as each strategic choice will have a great impact on the survival of the colony.

Star Wars Outlaws has a GTA-style Wanted system with Stormtroopers and Walkers chasing you

Kosta Andreadis | Gaming | Jun 11, 2024 2:32 AM CDT

Star Wars Outlaws, the new open-world game from Ubisoft Massive (The Division) set in the iconic Star Wars universe, is just around the corner. It will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 30. As part of its Ubisoft Forward event, we got our best look at the game, including a 10-minute gameplay demonstration showcasing what you'll do in the game.

Star Wars Outlaws has a GTA-style Wanted system with Stormtroopers and Walkers chasing you

It's an impressive showing because the game will include several planets to explore, start systems, and more, with secrets, side quests, and key targets to track down. And when you're in a world with a heavy Imperial presence, living the smuggler and outlaw life will attract unwanted attention. Yes, Star Wars Outlaws handles crime the same way as Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.

Increase your notoriety, and you'll have squads of Stormtroopers looking for you, AT-ST Walkers (the iconic two-legged machines from Return of the Jedi), and even Tie Fighters. Very cool.

ASUS's Project Dali full-color e-ink ROG Zephyrus laptop lid concept is amazing

Kosta Andreadis | Laptops | Jun 11, 2024 1:31 AM CDT

ASUS and its ROG (Republic of Gamers) team cooked up an impressive concept and prototype for its popular ROG Zephyrus line of gaming laptops - a full-color customizable e-ink layer on the lid. It's a brilliant concept because you can customize the image to fit it, and it will effectively print it out as an energy-efficient, high-quality image for your portable rig.

ASUS's Project Dali full-color e-ink ROG Zephyrus laptop lid concept is amazing

This builds on the impressive ROG AniMe Matrix array of programmable LED lights on current ROG Zephyrus G14 laptops. Even though it's only a concept, the ASUS team developed an Armoury Crate interface for the technology we could use during a visit to the company's HQ during Computex to check out its latest products.

After the initial wow factor wore off, we shared our initial concerns about the e-ink layer getting scratched or damaged, as it is situated on the top or lid of the laptop. ASUS took the feedback on board and advised that 'Project Dali,' as it's being called, was being shown at Computex to gauge interest and feedback.

MSI integrates AIO cooling in new GeForce RTX EXPERT and SUPRIM FUZION GPUs

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Jun 11, 2024 1:14 AM CDT

Sure, we didn't get any official confirmation on when we can expect to see the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, but word around Computex was that NVIDIA's next-gen GPU hardware was on track for an end-of-2024 launch. This is worth remembering because even though we got to see two very cool and unique GPU designs for the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER and RTX 4090 from MSI, odds are these designs are for next-gen cards.

MSI integrates AIO cooling in new GeForce RTX EXPERT and SUPRIM FUZION GPUs

First, there's the new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER EXPERT FUZION, which looks like the brand-new Founder Edition-style GPU we reviewed earlier this year when NVIDIA launched the RTX 4080 SUPER. It's a fantastic all-metal and minimal design. In EXPERT FUZION form, it's a little thicker (not by much) as it features an integrated 'Liquid-cooled Hybrid System' with a low-profile AIO-style pump.

Paired with the push and pull design of the new EXPERT Series from MSI, aluminum shell, custom fans, and copper baseplate, it's all about offering the benefit of liquid cooling without the need for a waterblock and external radiator. It's an impressive design that we assume will become part of the GeForce RTX 50 Series.

Lian Li's innovative wireless RGB solution and retro-inspired affordable wood panel case

Kosta Andreadis | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Jun 11, 2024 12:57 AM CDT

RGB lighting in a PC case, especially one with one or more tempered glass panels, is standard stiff in 2024 - as is dealing with RGB headers, power, and cabling for every little device that includes the tech. In recent years, we've seen several hubs, daisy-chain solutions, and other ways to remove unwanted cable clutter - but at Computex 2024, Lian Li presented an elegant solution: wireless.

Lian Li's innovative wireless RGB solution and retro-inspired affordable wood panel case

Lian Li's new WRLS, or Wireless RGB, and fan control system leaves the RGB side of the technology to a USB dongle that can be connected to the back of your case (to a motherboard) or stored internally using a free USB Type-A header.

Although you'll still need to supply power to Lian Li's new Wireless RGB fans, lighting control doesn't require anything outside the USB dongle and Lian Li's software to interface with each wireless RGB fan in your system. At Computex, we saw it in action with a complete setup, which was impressive.
