RuneScape Mobile Beta, 25k members, 'no XP waste' reality

Jagex has taken to their news section on their website to announce that RuneScapers will now have the option of downloading the RuneScape mobile beta app from the Google Play Store to play on Android devices. According to the post, only members will be able to use this mobile feature and at the moment the app will require Android 5.0 (lollipop) and above. The servers will also be capped to 25,000 players and there is no iOS version for the time being.

Throughout the news post, Jagex also say that there will be numerous problems throughout the mobile app, which is why the developer has limited the number of spaces to just 25,000. Jagex also warn players that since the iOS version has not been released yet to not download any app that claims to have access to RuneScape mobile through iOS, as they will be a scam or most likely account phishers. If you want to check out the full news post on the Jagex website, you can visit that here.

Borderlands 3 rumor says the game is in localization phase

Jak Connor | Gaming | Oct 9, 2018 1:00 AM CDT

Is there actually a Borderlands 3? No one really knows for certain as Gearbox Software has kept information for the rumored title under-wraps for quite some time now. Recent rumors that have surfaced suggest the game is actually in its localization phase.

Borderlands 3 rumor says the game is in localization phase

To get a good idea where the story is at for a new Borderlands game to be released we have to go back to the start of August where Take-Two Interactive CEO, Strauss Zelnick mentioned that throughout 2019 fans should expect a release of a "highly anticipated new title from one of 2K's biggest franchises." Most fans expect this title to be Borderlands 3 but with no word of the title even being in development we have no official confirmation its on the way.

Recent rumors from 'The Triple S League' have suggested that the title is actually in development and that Borderlands 3 is in its localization phase. Within the localization phase the games' dialogue and languages are being translated for non-english speaking countries, which usually only happens at the end of the titles development. These rumors supposedly come from two independent sources which have no knowledge of each other, but do not take the word for gospel as there has been no official announcement from Gearbox Software as of yet. I will be sure to update you if any information regarding Borderlands 3 is released.

AMD ripped up the multi-threaded CPU game with the original Threadripper 1950X and its 16C/32T of CPU power, but Team Red took it to the next level with Threadripper 2990WX by offering a huge 32C/64T and now Intel has finally caught up, but not beaten AMD.

As we get closer to the release of Fallout 76, developer Bethesda have detailed the new microtransactions system they're calling Atoms.

Bethesda details Fallout 76 microtransaction system 'Atoms'

Bethesda boss Pete Hines recently spoke with Xbox boss Major Nelson, saying Atoms can be used on buying outfits and skins in Fallout 76, and you can boost up your Atoms with real money, but it's not required as you can complete in-game tasks to earn Atoms, too.

The developer has been dead quiet about the cost of Atoms, so we don't know how much money some gamers will be able to spend on in-game items just yet. But they won't be super hard to find or earn, as Hines told Major Nelson that Fallout 76 will "throw them at you all the time".

Cyberpunk 2077 may get online multiplayer

CD Projekt RED's massively ambitious new FPS Cyberpunk 2077 may get online multiplayer added in the future.

Cyberpunk 2077 may get online multiplayer

We've long suspected Cyberpunk 2077 would have some sort of online component. After all, the Polish government granted CDPR $7 million to help create things like "seamless multiplayer" in the sci-fi game. Now the studio announces they've teamed up the online game experts at Digital Scapes.

This isn't uncommon in the games industry. Big-name studios often collaborate with outside teams to help bring their visions to life, especially incredibly dynamic and massive open worlds like Cyberpunk 2077. Digital Scapes specializes in a number of fields and has a lot to offer CDPR, especially multiplayer gameplay programming and cloud services management, both of which the Polish devs may not be familiar with on such a grand scale as Cyberpunk demands.

Guerrilla Games may be making new Killzone game

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 8, 2018 6:00 PM CDT

Guerrilla Games has poached key Rainbow Six: Siege development talent for its new secret game, and it could be multiplayer-driven.

Guerrilla Games may be making new Killzone game

Like most dev studios, Guerrilla has been quite busy in the last few years. First it crafted its new-ish high-end Decima engine that powered the excellent PS4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn, and now the team is working on something new. Based on who the studio has hired indicates it's probably a next-gen Killzone game.

Two key players have joined Guerrilla to work on the new unannounced: Simon Larouche, who helped develop Killzone 2's multiplayer maps, and Chris Lee, who served a pivotal role in designing and implementing Rainbow Six: Siege's multiplayer. Both devs crossed over from Ubisoft where they worked on online-based MP experiences. Do you see the trend here?

Project xCloud to stream Xbox games to phones, consoles

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 8, 2018 4:57 PM CDT

Microsoft has formally announced its new Project xCloud game streaming service, which will stream console-grade Xbox games to mobile devices, laptops, PCs, and consoles, but it's still a ways off from release.

Project xCloud to stream Xbox games to phones, consoles

Using the power of Microsoft's cloud infrastructure, the Xbox brand is expanding past gaming hardware and will bring a new era of accessibility to gamers worldwide. Ever keen on making new subscription services and future-proofing its engagement strategy, Microsoft's new Project xCloud will essentially let players turn their smartphones into a portable Xbox One for on-the-go gaming. When it's ready. Right now it's far from finished and beta testing will begin in 2019.

The service has lots of hurdles and limitations in the way. It's still in early stages of development while Microsoft tweaks and hones its servers to tackle hard obstacles like latency, frame-rate dips, and preserving graphical fidelity while streaming. Remember the stock Xbox One (which isn't even sold any more) already requires lots of caveats to get games running on it, namely dynamic resolution scaling, and these trade-offs may be present in Project xCloud too. Thankfully the service will use Xbox One S console specs, and games like Halo 5 and Forza are already playable on smartphones via streaming.
