Intel announces Core i9-9900KS CPU with 5GHz all-core Turbo Boost

Steven Bassiri | CPU, APU & Chipsets | Oct 28, 2019 11:25 AM CDT

Today, Intel announced the Core i9-9900KS, which is a highly binned 9900K with 8 cores and 16 threads, and a 5GHz all core Turbo Boost. The Turbo Boost is what is important here; the 9900K offers a 4.7GHz all core turbo boost, while the 9900KS offers 5GHz on all cores at maximum load. The TDP has also increased to 127W from 95W, which points to higher power consumption and performance.

Intel announces Core i9-9900KS CPU with 5GHz all-core Turbo Boost

The dodecahedron box reserved for Intel's special edition CPUs is quite a marvel, and it houses the 9900KS. Base frequency has also increased from 3.6GHz to 4.0GHz, and Intel states that the new CPU is compatible with Z390 chipset motherboards, although we have to wait to tell you if it is compatible with Z370 boards.

Most 9900K CPUs will overclock to 5GHz on all cores since turbo on Intel CPUs is not tied to specific cores, so all cores need to hit 5GHz, albeit one at a time with the 9900K. The 9900KS can hit it all the time. However, we should mention that these are the most highly binned 9900K CPUs out there, and should be capable of meeting or exceeding the most stable highly clocked 9900K CPUs without much effort.

The ISS has captured and released an astonishing timelapse image

Jak Connor | Science, Space, Health & Robotics | Oct 28, 2019 4:03 AM CDT

If you are aboard the International Space Station there is no doubt that you will run into some of the best scenery possible and maybe you will be lucky enough to capture it in a photo.

The ISS has captured and released an astonishing timelapse image

Astronaut Christina Koch was lucky enough to be able to do just that, as we can see from the above tweet on her personal Twitter account. While you might originally think that a timelapse photo would take quite some time to take while aboard the ISS, the above image only took 11 minutes to do complete due to the speed of which the ISS is traveling relative to Earth.

The image is comprised of 400 separate images and was taken as the ISS passed over Africa. Looking at the image now, we can see a lot of streaks of light in the sky which are stars. The bright clumps of light located on the planet are thunderstorms moving across the African continent and the green glow just above those light clumps is Earths upper atmosphere.

US Air Force recently announced that it broke the record for the longest endurance flight. That record has now been broken again, but why?

US Air Force space plane X-37B lands after baffling 780 day orbit

The US Air Force is clearly attempting to push space technology as far as possible, and they are doing that with the Boeing-made space plane X-37B. According to a new announcement from the US Air Force, X-37B successfully completed a 780 day orbit, beating its previous record of 717 days, 20 hours and 42 minutes.

According to USAF Rapid Capabilities Office director Randy Walden, the space plane completed "all mission objectives". Its still unclear what these 'mission objectives' are as the payloads aboard the X-37B are still highly classified. Officials involved within the space planes experiments have kept their answers quite vague in regards to the payload, saying that it "experimental electronics" and other scientific tests.

A new rumor has pointed towards their currently being a PlayStation VR version of Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn in development.

Horizon Zero Dawn rumored to get PlayStation VR version for PS4 or PS5

According to a tweet by Callum Hurley, who's been heavily involved within the VR industry for quite some time, he was "recently made aware of a very exciting new PlayStation VR game coming out of London Studio. Not sure whether it'll be for PS4, PS5 or both, but it's really exciting, and an announcement could be on the Horizon...".

Since there was the obviously capitalization on the 'H' in Horizon, fans immediately jumped to the conclusion that he was referencing Horizon Zero Dawn. Follow up questions were then asked to Hurley about how he obtained this information. Hurley then replied by saying he hasn't seen the game himself, but received the information regarding its existence by someone who has play-tested the game and who he trusts.

This is the device that could save ALL of our oceans from pollution

Jak Connor | Science, Space, Health & Robotics | Oct 28, 2019 1:32 AM CDT

As a human we all bear the responsibility of keeping our oceans and rivers clean, this means we have to think of ways to reduce our waste and a Dutch investor might just have the best idea yet.

This is the device that could save ALL of our oceans from pollution

Boyan Slat, a 25-year old university dropout founded The Ocean Cleanup company to begin developing systems and devices to help reduce the amount of plastic pollution found in our waters. Just this past Saturday, Slat unveiled his newest invention, a floating solar-powered device titled "Interceptor" which is designed to scoop out plastic waste from rivers.

Slat believes that rivers are "the arteries that carry the trash from land to sea" and that as humans "we need to close the tap, which means preventing more plastic from reaching the ocean in the first place". Experts have said that an estimated 9 million tons of plastic in all forms flows annually into the ocean from beaches rivers and creeks. Slats motivation is to stop this plastic flow by nipping the problem in its bud.

Watch Dogs Legion devs aim to push next-gen consoles to their limits

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 27, 2019 11:32 PM CDT

Watch Dogs Legion just got delayed to coincide with next-gen consoles, and the devs will use the extra time to push the PS5 and Project Scarlett systems to their limits.

Watch Dogs Legion devs aim to push next-gen consoles to their limits

Watch Dogs Legion is massively ambitious. The game effectively lets you play as anyone in the entire game, transforming every NPC from a non-player character into a now-playable character. The entire world is your playground and everyone in the Orwellian London setting can join your party, complete with hugely dynamic AI, an interactive and shifting world, and robust RPG mechanics. It's a huge undertaking that requires lots of power.

Luckily the devs at Ubisoft Toronto will get plenty of power. Watch Dogs Legion is now set to launch between Ubisoft's Q2 and Q3 of FY2021, which cements it firmly in next-gen console territory. Ubisoft already confirmed Legion would be optimized for the Zen 2 and Navi GPU-powered PlayStation 5 and 4K 120FPS-ready Project Scarlett systems.

Bethesda isn't done with mobile games, acquires new mobile dev studio

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 27, 2019 10:30 PM CDT

Expect more of Bethesda's biggest franchise to get mobile ports. The publisher is far from finished with gaming's most lucrative platform.

Bethesda isn't done with mobile games, acquires new mobile dev studio

Bethesda has transformed from a singleplayer-driven publisher to a live service curator. A big part of that is mobile, especially revenue-pushers like the free-to-play Fallout Shelter and Elder Scrolls Blades, the latter of which made over $1.5 million from microtransactions in a single month.

Since it's making tons of money, Bethesda won't just stop making free-to-play mobile ports of its IPs. Bethesda just bought out the mobile game devs at Alpha Dog Games to help develop "new and exciting titles for iOS and Android devices."

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 27, 2019 8:15 PM CDT

Now that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is here, Infinity Ward have pushed out the usual and common day-one patch with the new one for COD:MW including some PC-specific changes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare day one patch includes PC specific fixes

The new day-one patch includes a bunch of stuff, but starting with the PC-specific additions to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's first patch include HDR support and the ability to use NVIDIA Highlight in multiplayer matches.

Another issue solved is an annoying FOV issue that saw the FOV reverted back to its original setting before you loaded into a round, and the ADS transition animations looking a bit funky when the frame rates were too high.
