Redditor 'EssDee3D' was lucky enough to purchase one of NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition graphics cards... except it wasn't the RTX 5080 FE, but the higher-end RTX 5090 FE... except it wasn't.

Once the Redditor opened the box, he noticed it was the far more expensive RTX 5090 Founders Edition... except it wasn't. The RTX 5090 engraving seems to be an error in manufacturing, as it's recognized as an RTX 5080 in Windows and GPU-Z. The packaging says RTX 5080 but the card itself is engraved with "RTX 5090" but there are big differences between the RTX 5090 FE and RTX 5080 FE coolers, even though they look the same from the outside.

The Redditor explained: "I ordered a 5080 and I got a graphics card with 5090 engraved on it. The outer box has the 5080 SKU on it. Wondering if anyone else has seen something like this before?".

Things are heating up in the world of Radeon, with RDNA 4 set to get its big reveal soon and the Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT set to launch on March 6, 2025. Frank Azor, the Consumer and Gaming Marketing lead at AMD, has been quietly hyping up RDNA 4 recently, with one of his latest social media posts teasing a full presentation on RDNA 4.

The post responded to a question from content creator Dee Batch, who wanted more information on AMD's answer to the GeForce RTX 5070 and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. Frank Azor posted, "Yes, full details are coming soon," confirming that AMD will host a presentation or live stream that will go through all the juicy RDNA 4 details. Rumors are pointing to this happening in late February.

In addition, in response to a follow-up question about the price point for the RDNA 4 flagship Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU, Frank Azor also confirms that AMD is "listening" to the community when it comes to launching at a price that isn't simply a bit cheaper than NVIDIA.

The latest rumors suggest a March 2025 launch for the GeForce RTX 5060 and GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, NVIDIA's mainstream RTX Blackwell options for the new 50 Series. According to a new report (via Videocardz) citing a source with close ties to NVIDIA partner ZOTAC, the GeForce RTX 5060 Series will use the traditional 8-pin PCIe power connector rather than the new 16-pin power connector.

The source also claims that the GeForce RTX 5060 Series, which covers both the Ti and non-Ti variants, will require a power supply with at least 650W - which indicates more power-hungry cards compared to the 550W of the current GeForce RTX 4060 Series.

There's also some preliminary pricing information for the GeForce RTX 5060 Series. Although it's in RMB (Chinese Yuan), it does look like we'll see a price increase of around 8% for the GeForce RTX 5060 and 3% for the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti. This could mean a price point of $329 USD for the RTX 5060 and $419 USD for the RTX 5060 Ti.

The new ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Dhahab Edition is a super-luxurious collector's item with its all-gold finish, with the word Dhahab being Arabic for gold. In a new video shared by YouTuber 'zWORMz Gaming' we're seeing Warhorse Studios' new game running at 16K -- which is 15360 x 8640 -- on low settings, with NVIDIA DLSS set to Performance mode on the new GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card. The game doesn't run like a slideshow at 16K surprisingly, with performance hitting around 38FPS average which is more than playable.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance at 16K was allocated 24GB of VRAM while using 22GB of VRAM on the RTX 5090, but when DLSS upscaling was disabled, performance dropped to just 3FPS when running at native 16K resolution. 32GB of VRAM is simply not enough for 16K gaming... pushing right up to the limits of the framebuffer. 16K gaming will be for future-gen GPUs with 48GB or even 64GB of VRAM (without DLSS enabled).

As we reported earlier today, current reports and information point to a March 6, 2025, launch for AMD's next-gen RDNA 4 GPUs for PC gaming - the Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT. Multiple people at AMD, including CEO Dr. Lisa Su, have confirmed this. Su talked about the upcoming launch during AMD's recent financial earnings call.

" Our focus with this generation is to address the highest volume portion of the enthusiast gaming market with our new RDNA 4 architecture," Dr. Lisa Su said, reaffirming AMD's RDNA 4 approach that will skip the high-end enthusiast market to focus on the mainstream and mid-range market. She also added that RDNA 4 will deliver "significantly better ray tracing performance" and "AI-powered upscaling technology" for "high quality 4K gaming."

Dr. Lisa Su then confirmed that the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT GPUs will be available for sale in early March. AMD's Consumer and Gaming Marketing lead, Frank Azor, shared this on social media with a post stating, "RDNA 4 early March."

The GeForce RTX 50 Series launch has not gone well, and the main culprits are pricing and availability. Both the GeForce RTX 5080 and the GeForce RTX 5090 sold out immediately, with widespread reports of major retail stores only receiving single-digit quantities of the new flagship GeForce RTX 5090. Add in scalpers and word that it might take months for stock to arrive, and NVIDIA's next-gen GPU launch has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In addition, very few MSRP GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 models made it to market, with premium OC designs commanding a price premium of up to 50% - and that's at retail. The GeForce RTX 5080's MSRP is $999, and the GeForce RTX 5090's MSRP is $1999. It's now gotten to the point where MSI has substantially increased the pricing for all of its GeForce RTX 50 Series cards.

The GeForce RTX 5080 16G VENTUS 3X was MSI's MSRP model until a day ago, with a $999 price point. Today, that price has increased to $1,139.00 - a 14% price increase. MSI's flagship RTX 5080, the GeForce RTX 5080 16G SUPRIM SOC (which we reviewed here), has seen its price rise from $1,249.99 to $1,439.99 - a 15% increase.

AMD will reportedly launch its next-generation Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card powered by the new RDNA 4 architecture on March 6... just a month from now.

In a new report from our friends at Uniko's Hardware: "Today, we received the latest news that it will be available on March 6. The actual date for the public release of performance is still unknown. I have heard various dates before, including January 23 and March 23. This time the news was obtained through a reliable person (anonymous), and the official lifting of the ban may also be close to this period".

We should expect a launch event for RDNA 4 in late February, with the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 graphics cards launching March 6.

NVIDIA's new flagship ultra-enthusiast GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card has an MSRP of $1999, but in Taiwan it's selling for 5x that MSRP at up to a mind-boggling $9100. Yes... over nine thousand dollars.

In a new report from CNA, we're learning that NVIDIA's new beasty GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card sells for up to NT $300,000 (which works out to around $9100 USD or so). Taiwan is one of NVIDIA's key markets, and with supply issues there -- and everywhere, really -- this is getting ridiculous.

Taiwan reportedly received just "single-digits" for launch stock of NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards. We also have Chinese New Year mixing things up right now, so the next batches of Blackwell gaming GPUs is still weeks away at best, and it's not just Taiwan... the biggest US retailers are sold out, and the UK has between 3-16 weeks to wait for new waves of RTX 5090 graphics cards.

The GeForce RTX 5090 is effectively banned from sale in China thanks to US-based sanctions on companies selling powerful GPUs in the region. This is why you've got the cut-down GeForce RTX 5090D in China, and we're now seeing evidence of Chinese shopping tourists visiting nearby countries to source GeForce RTX 5090 cards for resale within China.

South Korean tech enthusiast @harukaze5719 posted a screenshot of ZOTAC's GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID OC model, which is currently up for sale on a Chinese auction site for approximately $4,000 USD-double the MSRP. It seems that gamers and enthusiasts in China would rather pick up a fully uncut GeForce RTX 5090 than settle for the RTX 5090D.

The Chinese auction site picture clearly shows a sticker with Korean text highlighting the card's three-year warranty and other information. However, it's safe to assume that this warranty doesn't extend to China - a region where the GPU is effectively banned from sale.

Although it's not official, the latest word on AMD's big RDNA 4 reveal event is that the company is planning to hold a press conference at the end of this month, February 2025, where it will finally divulge all of the goodies and info surrounding the upcoming Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT launch.

AMD has previously stated that both cards are expected to launch sometime in March, after the GeForce RTX 5070 and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti combo from NVIDIA, so it does feel like it's waiting to see how those pan out before presenting its alternative. Based on actually seeing several Radeon RX 9070 XT GPUs at CES 2025 in January and AMD confirming that stock is already at several retailers around the globe, it's only a matter of time before we get full details on AMD's next-gen desktop GPUs for gamers.

The event will undoubtedly detail specs, pricing, and performance while focusing on the improved ray-tracing performance and the new and improved AI-enhanced FSR 4 Super Resolution and Frame Generation.

UK gamers will have a couple of months of waiting before they see new flagship NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards from hitting their shores, with retailer Overclockers UK completely sold out... with 3-16 weeks of waiting to go.

In a new post on X, the retailer said that their RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics card supplies are sold out and "pre-orders ceased" adding that "due to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 series cards sold shortly after launch with soem pre-orders taken in restricted quantities". I just talked to some suppliers (I work in IT) and even the partner (MSI, ASUS, ZOTAC, etc...) is apparently complaining that the stock exists but NVIDIA is abusing their partner contract and decides when to send chips and which chip to send and if they don't comply they just don't get any even though it's already paid for".

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has weighed in on NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, going as far as saying that the RTX 5080 with its 16GB of GDDR7 is a "monopolistic crime against consumers" for $1000+ in 2025.

In a post on X, the NSA whistleblower said: "Endless next-quarter thinking has reduced the NVIDIA brand to"F-tier value for S-tier prices". 5070 should have had 16GB VRAM minimum, 5080 w 24/32 SKUs, 5090 32/48/+. Releasing a $1,000+ GPU in 2025 with a crippling 16GB is a monopolistic crime against the consumer".

Snowden seems pretty angry about NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, but he's not wrong... the GeForce RTX 5080 launching with just 16GB of VRAM in 2025 is disappointing to say the least, and he's right to say that it should be offered with 24GB or 32GB options.

NVIDIA has swiftly deployed a hotfix for a problem that was hitting Valorant players who've managed to grab a shiny new Blackwell GPU, a bug that caused the game to crash.

And yes, we'd expect that's a small niche of PC gamers who play the team shooter, given how difficult it is to secure an RTX 5090 or 5080, but it's an important fix for those people of course. Plus on top of this there's also a cure for a nasty crash with Final Fantasy XVI.

These fixes are in the GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 572.24, which is applied to the latest Game Ready Driver, version 572.16, the release which brings in support for the new RTX 5090 and 5080 graphics cards (and DLSS 4 as well, don't forget).

Although stock shortages have made NVIDIA's latest flagship GPU, the GeForce RTX 5090, impossible to find for many potential buyers - that hasn't stopped cooling solutions experts from creating new products specifically for the latest 4K gaming champ.

Just imagine... plugging in your hard-to-find, mega-expensive new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 or RTX 5090D graphics card and it's bricked... done, finished... that's what some PC gamers are experiencing.

According to some posts on Chinese forums including Chiphell, Baidu and social media outlet Bilibili, reports are flowing that the new GeForce RTX 5090D graphics card are bricking: from both COLORFUL and Manli. There are also reports that GIGABYTE and ASUS custom GeForce RTX 5090 cards are also dying.

One poster explained: "After installing the driver, the screen goes black, the graphics card cannot be recognized, and the same thing happens after changing the DP port to HDMI... this time, the 90 series only released such a small amount, and several of them were affected".

NVIDIA's new RTX 5090 requires 4 x 8-pin connectors for its power (delivering 600W) when used with an adapter setup (rather than a new 12V-2x6 connector), but what about if you only have a 3 x 8-pin setup for whatever reason?

As VideoCardz points out, this might be because you're short on power connectors, or you just don't have quite a beefy enough PSU, but the interesting spin on the RTX 5090 here is that it works just fine on 3 x 8-pin connectors.

Obviously, this will only supply 450W, so the RTX 5090 will operate at a considerably lower level than its TDP. (Which is 575W, at least for the baseline graphics cards - that can go up to 600W with heavyweight third-party cards like the ASUS ROG Astral (pictured top of this article, though its power usage is nothing compared to the GPU's mind-blowing price tag).

NVIDIA surprised us with the recent launch of its Smooth Motion feature, a driver-level system-wide implementation of frame generation, and it seemed as if this was an RTX 5000 exclusive - but that's not the case.

Well, to be fair, the feature (which is essentially a rival for AMD Fluid Motion Frames, known as AFMF) is for Blackwell GPUs only right now, but NVIDIA intends to also support RTX 4000 graphics cards down the line.

DSO Gaming (via Wccftech) spoke to NVIDIA and Team Green told the website: "NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a brand-new driver technology and requires time for validation and QA across multiple products. Support for GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs will be coming in a future update."

With NVIDIA launching its new GeForce RTX 50 Series last week with the GeForce RTX 5080 and GeForce RTX 5090, stock shortages and unavailability meant that very few got their hands on a shiny new RTX Blackwell card for a weekend of PC gaming. With reports of hundreds of people lining up at stores and then only a handful getting GPUs, widespread reports of it being a "paper launch" have dominated the discussion.

However, as we reported last year in the lead-up to the RTX 50 Series, we've also seen cards like the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and even GeForce RTX 4070 series cards become increasingly more challenging to find in the US. Online retailer Newegg's RTX 4080 SUPER stock is currently being sold for over $1,500 due to stock coming from overseas.

This had led to a (temporary or not) vacuum in the mid-range and enthusiast-class market for AMD's Radeon line-up to make a move. Five of the top ten best-selling GPUs on Newegg are Radeon GPUs, including the Radeon RX 7900 XT and the Radeon RX 7800 XT - with a few highlights sold for less than their original MSRP.

With the RTX Blackwell series launch last week, led by the new GeForce RTX 5080 and GeForce RTX 5090, one of the biggest stories from the event has been the lack of adequate stock to match the demand for NVIDIA's latest generation of desktop graphics cards. There have been several stories surrounding retailers getting very few cards for day one, with some claiming single-digit GeForce RTX 5090 inventory for an entire country.

This has led to many online investigations and reports calling the GeForce RTX 50 Series debut a "paper launch." And the situation, at least in the UK, is worsening. Retailer Overclockers UK has confirmed that the GeForce RTX 5080 and GeForce RTX 5090 are sold out and that, based on "high demand and limited stock," it will no longer accept pre-orders.

With that, it's currently working through a large list of pre-orders for both the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. When it comes to NVIDIA's latest flagship, Overclockers UK notes that the current ETA for orders to be fulfilled is anywhere between 3 to 16 weeks - yeah, up to four months.
