Leaked iPhone 17 Air dummy unit compared to iPhone 16 Pro in new video

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 14, 2025 12:48 PM CDT

Apple won't be releasing an iPhone 17 Plus this year, but instead will be dropping the iPhone 17 Air, a super cut-down iPhone that is incredibly thin and only has the bare minimum features.

Leaked iPhone 17 Air dummy unit compared to iPhone 16 Pro in new video

A dummy unit of the iPhone 17 Air has made it out into the wild, and in a new video posted by Majin Bu, a known leaker, the upcoming iPhone has been compared to an iPhone 16 Pro. The video showcases the new incredibly thin design of the iPhone 17 Air, with previous reports pegging the width of the device at just 5.5mm. To keep to the minimalist feature set, Apple is dropping the multiple cameras on the iPhone 17 Air and only placing a single-lens camera module on the back inside a pill-shaped camera bar.

For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro measures at 8.25mm thick, making the iPhone 17 Air nearly half the width of the previous generation Pro device. Additionally, the video shows an Action button on the left-hand side of the device above the two volume buttons, and on the right-hand side, the power button and below it what appears to be a Camera Control button.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 campaign ends in a 32-player multiplayer experience

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 14, 2025 12:23 PM CDT

A new report has revealed that Call of Duty Black Ops 7's campaign will end and then immediately put players into a 32-player multiplayer experience, marking a first for the franchise.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 campaign ends in a 32-player multiplayer experience

The report from Insider Gaming cites sources that have requested to remain anonymous as they aren't approved to talk about the game. According to the report, Black Ops 7 will feature 12 campaign missions, and the 12th and final mission will be on the "Avalon" map, a map that was originally planned as a Battle Royale experience. The final mission reportedly sounds like an extraction shooter that requires players to complete objectives and extract.

Details on what those objectives are weren't mentioned, but the sources did describe the mission as "hardcore" with players only having one attempt as a group. If the squad is all killed, all progress for the character will be lost. If true, this will be the first time the campaign and multiplayer in Call of Duty will be merged together, with the report saying it will be a fully-fledged 32-player multiplayer experience.

Xbox 360 converted into PC with an RTX 40-series GPU and X3D chip

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 14, 2025 11:45 AM CDT

Sometimes you want to keep the nostalgia of an old console, but want that console to be as fast as modern technology. Well, with a little bit of time on your hands and enough persistence, you too can build a PC inside an Xbox 360 shell.

Xbox 360 converted into PC with an RTX 40-series GPU and X3D chip

The above image is of a PC built within an Xbox 360 shell, and the system is nothing to roll your eyes at either as it features an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, a GIGABYTE RTX 4060 Low Profile, 32GB of TeamGroup T-Create DDR5-6000 RAM, a 250W PSU, a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, and a cheap WiFi card from Amazon that also features Bluetooth. So, yes, it is possible to build a PC within the corpse of a dead console. But does it actually run games?

According to the builders, yes, it does, and quite competently as well, as the system has been heavily optimized with each of the parts being placed in specific locations for increased airflow, which, according to the builders, has maintained temperatures at optimal levels for stable performance. Anyone who is into PC parts would be raising an eyebrow at the PSU. Only 250W? For an RTX 4060 and 7800X3D? Not to mention the rest of the components within the system? Surely it's not possible? Right? Wrong.

Take-Two comments on GTA 6 price, says Rockstar will reveal it 'soon'

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 14, 2025 11:04 AM CDT

The entire gaming market is eagerly awaiting the pricing of Grand Theft Auto VI by Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive. Recently, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the pricing and who will reveal it.

Take-Two comments on GTA 6 price, says Rockstar will reveal it 'soon'

In a recent interview with Variety, the Take-Two CEO was directly asked about the pricing surrounding GTA 6, with the Take-Two CEO responding by saying, "So now that announcement will come from Rockstar in due time. Our goal always is to deliver more value than what we charge, so we've had variable pricing at the company forever."

In a roundabout way, Zelnick is saying that if Rockstar believes it has provided much more value than the standard $70 premium price tag for a AAA game, there is a chance it will up the price. It really comes down to how much Take-Two and Rockstar believe gamers are getting value-wise from the game.

Microsoft warns Windows 11 23H2 is about to be killed off - so you've got to upgrade to 24H2

Darren Allan | Software & Apps | Aug 14, 2025 10:09 AM CDT

Windows 10 isn't the only flavor of Microsoft's desktop operating system that's soon to bite the silicon dust - there's also a variant of Windows 11 about to suffer the same fate.

Microsoft warns Windows 11 23H2 is about to be killed off - so you've got to upgrade to 24H2

This is Windows 11 23H2, and as Neowin noticed, Microsoft has just issued a reminder that the last-but-one incarnation of Windows 11 is on its way out. And yes - that means for those who've been holding out on upgrading to 24H2, you soon won't have much choice.

You will have a slightly longer stay of execution than Windows 10, though, which has its neck marked for October 14, 2025 - whereas Windows 11 23H2 isn't on the proverbial chopping block until November.

Razer's impressive new BlackWidow V4 Low-profile mechanical gaming keyboards have arrived

Kosta Andreadis | Peripherals | Aug 14, 2025 10:01 AM CDT

Razer has unveiled a pair of new BlackWidow keyboards, and if you're a fan of low-profile boards, you'll want to take note. The Razer BlackWidow V4 Low-profile HyperSpeed and Razer BlackWidow V4 Low-profile TKL HyperSpeed are the company's most advanced low-profile keyboards to date, with a slim, high-quality build and custom Razer Low-profile Mechanical Switches.

Razer's impressive new BlackWidow V4 Low-profile mechanical gaming keyboards have arrived

Like Logitech's popular G915 series of low-profile keyboards, the Razer BlackWidow V4 Low-profile series has been designed for gaming performance, comfort, and customization. Like the company's popular and award-winning Razer BlackWidow V4 keyboards, you've also got the option to choose between three different low-profile mechanical switches - green (clicky), yellow (linear), and orange (tactile).

Razer notes that one of the reasons low-profile keyboards have become popular among gamers is the fact that the reduced height (you're looking at an ultra-low 18.5mm front height here) leads to a more natural wrist position that doesn't require a wrist rest. This also means a shorter travel distance for the mechanical switches, albeit with the same responsiveness that you get with a Razer BlackWidow V4 keyboard.

The second open beta weekend for Battlefield 6 has officially gone live, and in a matter of hours, hundreds of thousands of players have flocked to the game.

Battlefield 6 open beta goes live, hundreds of thousands of players flood the servers

In the span of just six hours, more than 300,000 players rushed to jump into the action in Battlefield 6, with SteamDB numbers indicating there are 328,197 players in-game right now. For comparison, the first open beta weekend that ended 5 days ago peaked on Steam at 521,079 players, which is more than Call of Duty's highest concurrent player count on Steam.

It's still too early to say if the momentum will carry over from the first open beta weekend to push concurrent player counts above the 521,079 player record. As for the open beta weekend two, EA and DICE have thrown in a new map and game modes for players to enjoy, with bug fixes and a bunch of miscellaneous improvements. The second open beta weekend will run from August 14 to August 17, and EA has set the goal for players to cause $1 trillion worth of destruction during the beta period.

Apple's new M5 MacBook Air laptops rumored with in-house Wi-Fi chip, Bluetooth also possible

Anthony Garreffa | Laptops | Aug 14, 2025 6:06 AM CDT

Apple is rumored to be baking in a new in-house Wi-Fi chip onto its new M5-based MacBook Air laptops in both 13-inch and 15-inch MBA laptops in the future.

Apple's new M5 MacBook Air laptops rumored with in-house Wi-Fi chip, Bluetooth also possible

The big plan of Apple transitioning to its own in-house wireless solution started in 2023, where Apple would combine Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular (4G/5G) into a single package. This move would free up valuable space on the logic board, as well as boost power efficiency (leading to longer battery life).

The way it works now is that these components are separately soldered onto the logic board, increasing production costs and removing the benefits of using less space + less energy than using in-house solutions. The first important step for Apple will start with the upcoming iPhone 17, while the next phase would see the same in-house Wi-Fi chips on the M5 MacBook Air series refresh.

Even though the hardware for this is still a year away, the company is all-in on bringing AI-powered rendering to mobile gamers on day one, as NSS already has its own Unreal Engine plugin with PC-based Vulkan emulation and Vulkan ML extensions. The NSS model, which Arm says delivers DLSS 2-like image quality on a low-power mobile device, is compact and open-source.

Arm notes that developers and companies like Enduring Games, Epic Games, NetEase Games, Sumo Digital, Tencent Games, and Traverse Research are already working to add NSS support to games and apps. As a mobile-focused tech, it's designed to reduce GPU workloads by up to 50% while maintaining native-like image fidelity.

Turtle Beach Atlas 200 is the company's first officially licensed PlayStation headset

Kosta Andreadis | Audio | Aug 14, 2025 2:32 AM CDT

Turtle Beach has been creating gaming headsets for as long as we can remember gaming headsets being a thing, which is why it's a little surprising to learn that the company's new Atlas 200 is its "first officially licensed headset for PS5 and PS4." Now, Turtle Beach has been releasing PlayStation-compatible and focused headsets for a while. Still, now you've got one that has been developed in partnership with Sony that sports the iconic PlayStation logo and blue color.

Turtle Beach Atlas 200 is the company's first officially licensed PlayStation headset

The new Turtle Beach Atlas 200, which is launching with a wallet-friendly price point of $59.99 MSRP on September 12, 2025, is a wired headset designed to be plugged into the PS5's DualSense controller or the PS5's DualShock 4.

ASUS debuts ROG Crosshair X870E Hero BTF motherboard for that cable-free look

Kosta Andreadis | Motherboards | Aug 14, 2025 1:59 AM CDT

The ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero is one of the company's flagship motherboards, which it released for the latest Ryzen 9000 Series of CPUs and the X870-series chipset. This week, the company is formally introducing the ROG Crosshair X870E Hero BTF variant, with hidden reverse-side connectors.

ASUS debuts ROG Crosshair X870E Hero BTF motherboard for that cable-free look

And it's an impressive unit, with a 600 W-capable 12V-2x6 power connector on the reverse side to support ASUS's BTF-compatible ROG Strix, ROG Astral, and TUF Gaming graphics cards. And when you add in reverse side connectors for motherboard power, SATA, USB headers, fans, audio, and more, it offers up the potential to put together a high-end gaming PC with no visible cables.

Outside of its BTF design, the specs and capabilities of the motherboard are similar to the original ROG Crosshair X870E Hero, which earned an award when we reviewed it last year. So it's equipped with premium power delivery, five NVMe M.2 SSD storage slots, multiple high-speed Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 7, and two 40 Gbps USB4 ports.

Radeon RX 9060 non-XT reviewed, 20% faster than the GeForce RTX 5050

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Aug 14, 2025 1:26 AM CDT

AMD recently launched the Radeon RX 9060 non-XT graphics card; however, the fifth RDNA 4 GPU to hit the scene has arrived without a retail release. Instead of being marketed as an off-the-shelf entry-level 1080p gaming GPU, it's currently being sold exclusively as an OEM device for prebuilt systems.

Radeon RX 9060 non-XT reviewed, 20% faster than the GeForce RTX 5050

Which is why South Korean creator Technosaurus (very cool name by the way) decided to buy one of these Radeon RX 9060-powered desktop rigs, remove the GPU, and compare the performance to the Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB, the GeForce RTX 5050, and the GeForce RTX 5060.

The RTX 5050 comparison, which is NVIDIA's mainstream RTX Blackwell GPU, is the most interesting as we see the Radeon RX 9060, on average, beating the entry-level RTX GPU by around 20%. This is a decent lead, and the sort of performance you'll be able to notice when gaming at 1080p.

iPhone 17 Air has iPhone 17 Pro perf: binned A19 Pro chip has less GPU cores, lower gaming FPS

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Aug 14, 2025 1:01 AM CDT

Apple's upcoming ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air smartphone won't just be the thinnest iPhone ever, it'll also have a binned A19 Pro chip inside, the same SoC inside the iPhone 17 Pro, but with less GPU cores.

iPhone 17 Air has iPhone 17 Pro perf: binned A19 Pro chip has less GPU cores, lower gaming FPS

In new leaks from Weibo-based tipster "Fixed Focus Digital", the new iPhone 17 Air is indeed powered by Apple's new in-house A19 Pro chip, but in "binned form". Binned chips are ones that have just barely missed silicon perfection, so they get cut down and used in different products down the stack. Intel, AMD, NVIDIA and many other chipmakers do this with their GPUs and CPUs during production.

This means that the A19 Pro destined for the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 5-core GPU, which is one less GPU core than the iPhone 17 Pro will house with the same A19 Pro chip. One less GPU core won't result in too much gaming performance lost on the iPhone 17 Air, but it will make it just slower than the slightly higher-end iPhone 17 Pro.

PUBG ending PS4 support on November 13, will only be playable on current-gen consoles

PUBG ending PS4 support on November 13, will only be playable on current-gen consoles

One of the biggest live service games is leaving last-gen consoles behind so it can continue to grow on Gen 9 systems. Krafton has made the decision to discontinue PUBG on PS4 and Xbox One, saying that this decision will deliver a "more stable gameplay environment." The teams want to streamline content delivery on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and both Sony and Microsoft are already working on next-generation console hardware. That's a lot of technical debt to carry forward, so Krafton shed the weight well after gen 9's introduction in 2020.

PUBG players on PS4 will need to re-download the game to play on PS5, whereas Xbox One players will receive the Xbox Series X/S version automatically via Smart Delivery.
