LEGO's 'guaranteed shatterproof' truck trolls Tesla Cybertruck design

Jak Connor | Nov 27, 2019 2:31 AM CST

Tesla recently unveiled their soon-to-be-released Cybertruck, and during their reveal Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave a 'shattering' presentation.

LEGO's 'guaranteed shatterproof' truck trolls Tesla Cybertruck design

During the presentation, Elon Musk said that the Cybertruck would have shatterproof windows, and then proceeded to demonstrate their durability by having Tesla lead designer Franz von Holzhausen toss a metal ball at them. To his and the audience's surprise, both windows shattered on impact.

Musk laughed off the windows damage and said that to Tesla's credit, they didn't go through the window and that they would fix this problem in post. LEGO has now taken that moment in Musk's presentation, and created their own evolution of truck they are marketing as "guaranteed shatterproof". LEGO are clearly poking some fun at Tesla's unique design, and the funniest part about it is that the LEGO piece doesn't even look that different from Cybertruck's design.

Tesla Cyberquad ATV ships as an add-on for Cybertruck

Anthony Garreffa | Nov 25, 2019 7:50 PM CST

Tesla shook the world with the announcement of its electric pickup truck in the new Cybertruck, but Tesla Motors and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also unveiled the all-electric ATX as well. Tesla has already sold over $10 billion worth of Cybertruck's in the last few days.

Tesla Cyberquad ATV ships as an add-on for Cybertruck

The new Cyberquad is a two-person ATV that can drive up into the Cybertruck, with the four-wheeler ATV utilizing the Cybertruck's impressive adaptive suspension that leans back for easier loading of the Cyberquad. Tesla even includes a charging station on the bed of the Cybertruck for the Cyberquad ATV.

Tesla hasn't unveiled any hard details on the Cyberquad, but we do know that you will be going off-road with an all-electric ATX that I'm sure is going to be a blast to ride -- and once finished, ride back up into your Cybertruck to charge and transport to/from home.

200,000 pre-orders of Tesla Cybertruck reached, worth over $10 billion

Anthony Garreffa | Nov 25, 2019 12:09 AM CST

Tesla is really racking up the pre-orders of its exciting new Cybertruck, with Tesla Motors and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeting that the company has received over 200,000 pre-orders for the Cybertruck so far.

200,000 pre-orders of Tesla Cybertruck reached, worth over $10 billion

It was barely 24 hours ago that it was reported Tesla had over 146,000 pre-orders of its new Cybertruck, seeing the company rack up over $7.5 billion in sales pretty quickly -- but with 200,000 vehicles now sold those numbers have increased. Just a quick, rough calculation of 30% more Cybertruck's sold on the $8B already sees that number climb north of $10.6 billion.

Tesla had 128,000 reservations of its Model 3 in the first 24 hours post-debut, so while the Cybertruck is lagging... there are a few things to consider. First, the Tesla Cybertruck is a much more expensive electric vehicle -- and it has 3 different models at varying prices. Secondly, it is not a mainstream car and has a specific audience it is aimed at.

Tesla sells $7.5 billion worth of its new Cybertruck's already

Anthony Garreffa | Nov 24, 2019 12:57 AM CST

Tesla made waves all around the world with the unveiling of its futuristic Cybertruck, which Elon Musk himself has now tweeted that the company has received 146,000 pre-orders so far.

Tesla sells $7.5 billion worth of its new Cybertruck's already

Musk even provided the split of numbers between potential customers of the Tesla Cybertruck with its single-, dual-, and tri-motor options. Musk said that out of the 146,000 ordered so far 42% of customers chose the dual-motor Cybertruck, while 41% went for the flagship tri-motor model while just 17% went for the single-motor Tesla Cybertruck.

Tesla Motors' own numbers directly from company CEO Elon Musk show that more customers want the higher-end models versus the single-motor Cybertruck. If the calculation of the 146,000 models seeing half of them with the optional Autopilot upgrade that costs $7000, that means Tesla has had over $7.5 billion worth of pre-orders of the Cybertruck already.

Tesla Model 3 update: drag racing to benchmark acceleration upgrades

Anthony Garreffa | Nov 12, 2019 8:08 PM CST

Tesla pushed out a new over-the-air update to its entire electric vehicle line up, offering some big upgrades across the board in different ways. But there was one, for the Model 3 and its acceleration upgrade, that saw a drag race showing a clear winner.

Tesla Model 3 update: drag racing to benchmark acceleration upgrades

Model S owners will get a little bit more range from the new update to their EV, with the Tesla Model S range increasing from 373 miles to 380 miles. SpaceX and Tesla Motors CEO and founder Elon Musk said during Tesla's recent earnings call: "And there are some software improvements that we think will make that even better".

Musk added: "I forgot to mention, we're also expecting there's going to be an over-the-air improvement that will improve the power of the Model S, X, and 3. It should be in the order of 5 percent power improvement due to improved firmware". Not too bad for an update to your vehicle, right?

Tesla to reveal its 'armored personnel carrier from future' Nov 21st

Jak Connor | Nov 7, 2019 3:08 AM CST

Back in early October, Elon Musk took to Twitter to tease the design of the Tesla pickup truck. Musk is now at it again, but this time he is teasing its release date.

Tesla to reveal its 'armored personnel carrier from future' Nov 21st

Musk was asked on Twitter by a fan what he thought about the designs of the pickup truck that were bouncing around the Internet. He replied to the fans saying, "Cybertruck doesn't look like anything I've seen bouncing around the Internet. It's closer to an armored personnel carrier from the future."

Then during the Tesla annual shareholders meeting in June, Musk said that 'Cybertruck' is designed to be a benchmark of Ford's F-150. Musk said the Cybertruck should "meet or exceed an F-150. If the F-150 can do it, then a Tesla truck should be able to do it." Just last night, Musk took to Twitter to announce that the Cybertruck will be unveiled on November 21st, in LA, near SpaceX rocket factory.

Segway's first eBikes only travel 40 & 74 miles, but are $3,000/$4,500

Jak Connor | Nov 6, 2019 4:05 AM CST

When you think of Segway, you most likely think of the Segway PT, but now you are going to think of dirt bikes, yes, that's right, dirt bikes by Segway.

Segway's first eBikes only travel 40 & 74 miles, but are $3,000/$4,500

Segway are introducing two new dirt bike models that are hybrids between what would be considered as a normal dirt bike and a mountain bike. These two new models are Dirt eBike's and are the X160 and the X260. Firstly, the X160 is the smaller of the two and is more focussed on agility rather than raw power.

It has thin wheels that only measure in at 1-inches, and from the above image, we can see it has a compact frame when compared to the X260. The X160 has a top speed of 31.1mph and only has an estimated travel range of 40.4 miles while the X260 is much more powerful with a 74.6-mile range and a top speed of 46.6mph.

Breakthrough battery design charges electric car in 10 min + 200 miles

Jak Connor | Nov 1, 2019 3:34 AM CDT

Battery technology has always been one of the main things that hold back technology advancement, but now a new breakthrough has happened from scientists out of Pennsylvania State University.

Breakthrough battery design charges electric car in 10 min + 200 miles

The scientists have claimed that they have developed a new battery design that is said to have the capabilities of being able to take in 400 kilowatts of energy. The scientists reported that it takes 10 minutes of charging to add 200 miles of driving range. It should be noted that current generation electric vehicles are definitely not capable of this amount of energy being pushed into the battery, as it risks the integrity of the battery and the lifetime of it. This

Scientists out of The Pennsylvania State University raised their test battery temperature to 60 degrees and then slowly lowered it while it was being used, this ensures that battery isn't going to be cooked by the amount of energy put into it. Senior author Chao-Yang Wang, a mechanical engineer touched on that, saying "limit the battery's exposure to the elevated charge temperature, thus generating a very long cycle life."

Tesla owners have unparked their car 'hands free' over 1 million times

Jak Connor | Oct 24, 2019 3:32 AM CDT

Tesla has just finished up its quarterly earnings meeting and one of the aspects the company talked about was the recently rolled out Smart Summon feature for Tesla vehicles.

Tesla owners have unparked their car 'hands free' over 1 million times

Smart Summon enables Tesla owners to be able to 'summon' their car from a location and then have it drive itself over to the owner. Tesla owners have been using this feature in a variety of different places, such as parking lots, around the corner trips and if they are feeling particularly lazy. This feature can be used from a maximum distance of 200 feet, and as long as the owner is in the line of sight of the vehicle.

Some users have experienced some extremely close calls with this feature, but just like any omelette, you have to break some eggs a long the way. In all in all though, the Smart Summon feature has been quite the success for Tesla with their quarterly earnings report saying the feature has been used "over one million times" since its release back in mid September. Tesla also said that "Our neural network learning approach enables us to continue to iterate and improve functionality over time."

Qantas has taken to their newsroom section on their website to announce that they have broken the record for the longest non-stop commercial flight.

Qantas breaks flight length record with non-stop 19-hour flight

The press release says that the flight airline took off from New York and was heading to Sydney over the course 19 hours and 16 minutes. The flight successfully touched down in Sydney and according to Qantas it was a test to monitor pilots brain waves and melatonin levels. Medical researchers and scientists that partnered with Qantas for the experiment said that cabin lighting and in-flight meals were also adjusted in ways to help reduce jetlag on passengers.

According to Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce, "This is a really significant first for aviation. Hopefully, it's a preview of a regular service that will speed up how people travel from one side of the globe to the other. We know ultra long haul flights pose some extra challenges but that's been true every time technology has allowed us to fly further. The research we're doing should give us better strategies for improving comfort and wellbeing along the way."

Wanna see Tesla Model 3s wrecked in crash test lab? Watch this!

Anthony Garreffa | Oct 16, 2019 8:08 PM CDT

Admit it -- you've always wanted to see what a Tesla vehicle would look like in a crash test environment, and now you've got your chance.

Wanna see Tesla Model 3s wrecked in crash test lab? Watch this!

Tesla has provided an insider look at its internal Crash Lab, where it crashes its electric vehicles to find out how it can make its vehicles even safer. Before using actual Model 3 vehicles, Tesla Motors will (like any other automaker) use computer modeling to find issues with its cars before smashing them at high speeds into walls.

Tesla's latest Model 3 has specially-designed front passenger airbags that in the case of an accident, will wrap the passenger in the airbag to keep them from smashing into the interior of the Model 3. Tesla claims that its Model 3 vehicle is one of "the safest cars on the road".

Porsche's Macan EV will cannibalize its gas sister-car in a few years

Jak Connor | Oct 14, 2019 6:08 AM CDT

Everyone who is constantly on the road these days wonders about when car companies are going to start to make the transition to electric vehicles and phase out combustion engine cars. Porsche are beginning to do that, starting with the Macan.

Porsche's Macan EV will cannibalize its gas sister-car in a few years

According to an interview with Autocar, Porsche's chairman, Lutz Meschke said that when the Macan EV rolls out its combustion engine counter-part will also arrive alongside it, but only for a select period of time. Meschke says that in 2021 both cars will arrive for consumers to purchase, but the gas variant will only be available for a "couple of years" before being consumed by the electric variant.

Meschke says that the transition between the two vehicles will be "different by region", so don't expect it to happen worldwide all at once. Porsche's SUV director, Julian Baumann gave some details on the electric vehicle variant and said that the car will be much more aerodynamic than the gas counter-part, and will still maintain "everyday usability". Meschke also touched on how long it would take for most of Porsche's vehicles to become electric, he estimated that 30 - 40% of Porsche's will be electric within five years.

Olympian runs in a bubble FULL of hydrogen car EMISSIONS

Anthony Garreffa | Oct 12, 2019 3:31 AM CDT

Hyundai has quite the marketing video for its Nexo: a hydrogen fuel cell-powered SUV that emits just water and oxygen, getting an Olympian to run inside of a bubble in its emissions.

Olympian runs in a bubble FULL of hydrogen car EMISSIONS

It's hard to convey just how clean a hydrogen fuel cell-powered SUV is, so getting a super-fit Olympian (in this case, Olympic swimmer and brand ambassador Mireia Belmonte) to run on a treadmill inside of a bubble that is sucking in the emissions from Hyundai's Nexo is a neat-o idea.

Hyundai makes it clear that the vehicle only emits water and 99.9% filtrered oxygen, with the South Korean car giant teaming with the Spanish National Centre on Hydrogen and a sports medical center to make sure the entire test was safe -- and in the end, we get an awesome display at how efficient and green the Nexo hydrogen fuel cell-powered SUV is.

NASCAR wants hybrid cars in its races by as soon as 2022

Anthony Garreffa | Oct 10, 2019 7:13 PM CDT

NASCAR is getting into the hybrid and electric vehicle movement (they can't ignore it anymore, I guess) with NASCAR senior VP of Racing Development John Probst announcing during an interview with TechCrunch that they're preparing for hybrid vehicles entering NASCAR races as soon as 2022.

NASCAR wants hybrid cars in its races by as soon as 2022

Probst says it will start with hybrid vehicles and eventually extend to electric vehicles, but it won't be an instant overnight switch being flicked. NASCAR says it will be waiting for "Next-Gen gas race car" guidelines that will arrive in 2021, after which we can expect the full push into the world of hybrid and EVs entering NASCAR races.

NASCAR says that hybrids and electric vehicles aren't a perfect match for its current tracks, so the organization will have to investigate the possibility of making shorter tracks for hybrids and EVs. In these modified, shorter tracks drivers can take advantage of regenerative braking on hybrids and EVs in order to battle other racers.
