Discord wants their app on the Switch, fan support requested

Jak Connor | May 15, 2019 2:00 AM CDT

Discord has become one of the most versatile utilities for gaming and many other subjects that require verbal communication. So how about the Nintendo Switch picks up some of that love?

Discord wants their app on the Switch, fan support requested

On the official Twitter account for Discord, a fan has asked when we would see Discord for the Nintendo Switch. While this seems like a no brainer for the Nintendo Switch to have support for Discord, that isn't the case at the moment. Discord replied to the question saying "We would love to bring Discord to the switcht! But we'd need Nintendo's blessing for that to happen first." Discord even go on to say that Nintendo Switch users who support the idea of Discord on the Switch should "Vote up the idea here and maybe it could be a thing someday".

I'm not sure if Nintendo will accept Discord on the Nintendo Switch due to them already having their Nintendo Switch Online app that allows for voice communication across games. With that being said, the addition of Discord on the Switch would certainly undermine their already established communication method. This makes me think that Nintendo would decline the inclusion of this third-party software and instead stick to their own.

Facebook has followed in the steps of Twitter as the company has issued out a brand new 'Dark Mode' to its global communications app 'Messenger'. The new mode can be activated by any user and here is how.

How to turn on Facebook Messenger 'Dark Mode' feature

Facebook has snuck in the 'Dark Mode' feature in the latest update of the Messenger app, the new feature can be activated by users that are both on Android and iOS devices. Here is how to do it; all you have to do is send the crescent 'moon' emoji in a chat with either yourself or someone else and the app will respond with "You found Dark Mode!" Below will be a short-cut for turning dark mode on in the settings, selecting that option you take you to the Messenger settings where you will have to select that you want dark mode to be on.

After these steps are done the app should appear black. Some users have reported the app not converting straight away, but this can be fixed with a quick restart of either the phone or the app. Facebook brought this new feature to Messenger as apart of the Messenger 4 updates, which detailed the dark mode in the 'personal' section. Other aspects of the update can be viewed here. Maxon releases new Cinebench R20 CPU benchmark

Anthony Garreffa | Mar 5, 2019 8:30 PM CST

Maxon and its Cinebench R15 benchmark have been a big part of CPU benchmarking for quite some time now, with Cinebench R15 launching all the way back in September 2013 but the company has finally released a new version of its benchmark with all of the advancements of Maxon's Cinema 4D technology inside.

Maxon releases new Cinebench R20 CPU benchmark

The new Cinebench R20 benchmark is a CPU-only benchmark, with Maxon removing the GPU benchmark portion out of the new run. In the new CPU benchmark it's also much more stressful on your hardware, with Maxon noting that "Cinebench R20 uses a much larger and more complex test scene than R15, requiring about 8x the computational power needed to render it. The test also requires about 4x the memory. Therefore, R15 and R20 results cannot be compared".

AMD unleashed its super-threaded Ryzen Threadripper CPUs in 2017 and continued that trend last year, and will have even more cores and threads in the third-gen Zen 2-based Threadrippers arriving soon. We need benchmarks like Cinebench to continue to expand and grow with next-gen CPU offerings, and here we have it. But there's one gigantic problem.

Microsoft ask Internet Explorer users to go to a new browser

Jak Connor | Feb 9, 2019 4:00 AM CST

It baffles me why people are still using Microsoft's ancient Internet Explorer, and now even Microsoft themselves have kindly asked Explorers users to upgrade and let the browser die.

Microsoft ask Internet Explorer users to go to a new browser

Microsoft has taken to their official blog to address the issues surrounding the use of Internet Explorer. Microsoft's senior cyber-security architect Chris Jackson has said that the use of Internet Explorer while may be easier compatibility wise in the short term, provides substantial "technical debt" in the long term. According to Jackson, the use of Internet Explorer creates costs do down the line for companies, and also provides difficulties when creating web-pages for future use.

Microsoft has recommended users to try and stay ahead of the curve and transition to new modern browser for not only compatibility improvements but also security reasons as well. It should be noted that Microsoft don't even support Internet Explorer anymore, since the company announced back in 2016 that they will be killing support for Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10. If you happen to be one of the few users that are still cruising about the Internet on Internet Explorer it is highly recommended that you upgrade to a more modern browser such as Edge, Chrome or FireFox.

Messenger on Android/iOS update can now delete sent texts

Jak Connor | Feb 6, 2019 3:00 AM CST

There is no doubt that within this day and age that everyone who is using mobile messaging apps regrets some things that they have said to other people. Users never had the ability to delete this messages, but now they can.

Messenger on Android/iOS update can now delete sent texts

Until today, users on Facebook Messenger never had the ability to delete or edit sent messages via their app. Facebook actually previously rejected the idea of allowing users to remove or edit their personal sent messages, but now it seems their tune has changed on the topic. Perhaps the reconsideration for the option being available to the public came after Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg was caught removing messages from his personal messenger account.

Users on both iOS and Android will now have the ability to delete messages within 10 minutes after its being sent. If you desire to delete messages that have been sent longer than 10 minutes ago, there could be a way around it. Users could attempt changing the date and time within their phone after clearing the app data, this could make the Messenger app think that those messages were sent only 10 minutes ago which in turn could allow for the 'delete' option to be available.
