AMD has just announced its new Ryzen Threadripper 7000 and Ryzen Threadripper 7000 PRO series CPUs, with the "PRO" series pushing the core and thread count up to 96 cores and 192 threads.
What's new for high-end desktop (HEDT) users is the Ryzen Threadripper 7980X, offering 64 cores and 128 threads of CPU power, based on the newer Zen 4 architecture and the new TRX50 platform on the sTR5 socket. AMD's new Ryzen Threadripper 7980X processor rockets at up to 5.1GHz max boost, with 320MB of cache in total and a 350W TDP. This is the most insane high-end desktop CPU that has ever been announced, dominating the HEDT market the day it arrives on November 21, 2023.
AMD has three new Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series HEDT processors launching November 21, 2023: the flagship Ryzen Threadripper 7980X with 64 cores and 128 threads, the Ryzen Threadripper 7970X with 32 cores and 64 threads, and the Ryzen Threadripper 7960X with 24 cores and 48 threads.
AMD Ryzen 8950X CPU leak suggests slower clocks, and slower performance than previous leakage
A leaked benchmark of AMD's next-gen desktop flagship, theoretically the Ryzen 8950X processor, has popped up online.
The leak comes from YouTuber RedGamingTech (RGT), who touches more broadly on Zen 5 desktop, too, noting that clock speeds will be dialed back with the next-gen CPUs, and AMD is focusing on beefing up IPC.
As for the leak itself, it's of an engineering sample (obviously) of the 8950X which has been run through its paces on Cinebench 2024.

Intel's next-gen Meteor Lake CPU platform has popped its head up just as the company is launching the 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" processors today, with our review on the flagship Core i9-14900K available for your reading pleasure.
Anyway, the new Meteor Lake-based Core Ultra 9 185H mobile processor has been spotted flexing its new mobile CPU muscle during a Geekbench 5.4 benchmark run. If you were expecting surprising results, where you thought the new Core Ultra 9 185H would be kick-ass? You'd be wrong. It can't keep up with lower-end CPUs that have been on the market for years, at least in its current form.
Intel's new Core Ultra 9 185H mobile processor benched in Geekbench saw a single-score result of between 1773 and 1849 points while providing a multi-core score of between 9787 and 9832 points. This means the new Core Ultra 9 185H mobile processor -- at least in these early Geekbench scores -- can't even beat an older Core i9-12900H processor (which scores 1832 points in single-core and then 12710 points in multi-core Geekbench).

Intel's new 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" CPUs have just launched, with the Core i5-14600K, Core i7-14700K, and flagship Core i9-14900K launching alongside their "KF" variants that don't have an integrated GPU.
It hasn't taken long for the world of overclockers to have their fun, with the new flagship Intel Core i9-14900K processor being pushed up and breaking the world frequency record at an astounding 9043.92MHz (that is over 9000MHz CPU clocks, people).
Professional overclocker "Elmor" is behind the Core i9-14900K at 9.1GHz and using an ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 APEX Encore motherboard, with some precious time being spent in the BIOS tweaking everything to reach these dizzyingly high CPU frequencies -- which again, is over 9000MHz, kinda bonkers -- which of course saw Elmor using liquid helium cooling, which took the Core i9-14900K into the world of sub 200C, minus 235C, actually.
Intel officially announces and launches Intel Core 14th Gen Desktop Processors
And pricing looks to be on par with the previous gen! After months of rumors and leaked benchmarks, Intel has officially announced and unveiled the new Intel Core 14th Generation desktop processor lineup, including the Intel Core i5-14600K, Intel Core i7-14700K, and flagship Intel Core i9-14900K. With up to 24 cores and 32 threads on the high-end, the early word about increased frequencies is accurate, with the new Intel Core 14th Gen hitting up to 6 GHz out of the box.
In the midrange, the Intel Core i7-14700K features 20 cores and 28 threads thanks to the four additional E-cores compared to the 13700K. And for those looking at overclocking, intel's Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) app now features a new AI Assist for one-click overclocking for select Intel Core 14th Generation desktop processors. Plus, DDR5 can go beyond 8,000 MT/s.
With the announcement, Intel is positioning the new line-up as an enthusiast CPU class for gamers and content creators. "The role of the CPU in gaming and creating has never been more important," writes Intel. "Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processors - powered by Intel's advanced performance hybrid architecture - give PC enthusiasts the compute performance they need without compromising user workflow."
Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon X chip for PCs will fight Apple's M-series processors
Qualcomm has been continuously improving on its Snapdragon SoCs for a while now, with some stellar mobile PC solutions powered by 5G connectivity. Still, now the company is better positioning itself in the PC chip business with the introduction of the new Snapdragon X Series.
The new Snapdragon X Series is an important step for Qualcomm, after its $1.4 billion acquisition of Nuvia in early 2021. Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon X processor will feature their in-house Oryon CPU, which is the important part: that is the first in-house chip that the ex-Nuvia team has had an influence on and baked into the new Snapdragon X Series.
Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X chips will be an "infection point for the PC industry, all thanks to enhanced performance capabilities," explains the company, as well as enhanced efficiency. This means next-gen Windows laptops powered by Snapdragon X, will have even better battery life... maybe stepping towards the gigantic life of the M2-powered Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops.

14th Gen won't cost more than 13th Gen: This is what we know, the leaked pricing shows that the lowest member of the Raptor Lake Refresh family -- the Core i5-14600KF -- will cost $294. This applies up to the Core i9-14900K, which will cost $589, or the Core i9-14900KF ("F" variant without integrated GPU) will be $25 less again, down to $564.
How many cores, threads, and max CPU clocks? Intel is cranking its flagship Core i9-14900K processor up to a whopping 6.0GHz using its Thermal Velocity Boost technology, with 24 cores (8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores) and 32 threads in total. The Core i7-14700K has 20 cores (8 P-Cores and 12 E-Cores) and 28 threads in total, clocking up to 5.6GHz using Turbo Boox Max Technology 3.0. The slowest member in the Core i5-14600K has 14 cores (6 P-Cores and 8 E-Cores) and 20 threads, boosting up to 5.3GHz max.

We are just hours away from the unleashing of Intel's new 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" CPUs, and now we've got the full specifications and pricing details on all of the next-gen desktop CPUs ranging from the Core i5-14600K up to the Core i9-14900K.
Starting out with Intel's new flagship Core i9-14900K processor, we now know it will indeed have 24 cores -- with 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores -- with 36MB of cache in total. We're going to see the Core i9-14900K run with a base CPU clock of 3.2GHz, while it will boost at up to 6.0GHz on its P-Cores, with support for up to both DDR5-5600 and down to DDR4-3200 memory.
Intel will have its flagship Core i9-19400K selling for $589, while if you want the Core i9-14900KF -- the "F" there means it has no integrated GPU -- then you can save $25, with the Core i9-14900KF processor costing $564.
AMD Strix Point Halo APU teased: RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, next-gen Zen 5 CPU cores for 2024
AMD currently has its codename "Phoenix" APUs in the form of Ryzen 7040 series mobile processors, but now we're expecting the upgraded codename "Strix Point" and "Strix Point Halo" APUs that will arrive in 2024 under the Ryzen 8050 series mobile processors.
Before that, we'll see AMD release its new Phoenix APU refresh APUs codenamed Hawk Point, which will be a refresh of the current Ryzen 7040 series APUs. They'll use the current Zen 4 architecture, topping out at 8 cores and 16 threads, compatible with FP7/r2 and FP8 platforms bringing support for DDR5 and LPDDR5X memory.
AMD's next-gen Strix Point APU will use the new Zen 5 CPU architecture based on the 4nm process node at TSMC, on a monolithic design. We'll see up to 12 cores in a hybrid configuration -- so, Zen 5 + Zen5C + with 32GB of shared L3 cache. Performance-wise, we're to expect a 35% performance uplift over the current Phoenix APU at 50W.

The leaked presentation looks at the more CPU-limited resolution of 1080p, where some serious CPU power is needed there, with a bunch of games running on both the new Intel Core i9-14900K, and the competitors flagship 3D V-Cache CPU: the Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
AMD with its Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor has more performance in some games over the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, because particular games enjoy not having to work across the dual CCDs on the higher-end CPU. In some titles, the 7950X3D is better, across more titles the 7800X3D is better.
Leaker suggests Intel's Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs could be underwhelming, especially the 14900K
Intel's Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs are about to be sprung on us, at least if the rumor of a mid-October launch is right, but one YouTube leaker is pouring some distinctly cold water on these next-gen desktop processors.

The leaker has been chatting to his contacts recently, and to say there is a lack of excitement around Raptor Lake Refresh would be an understatement.
Intel Panther Lake CPUs - due in 2025 or 2026 - have already been spotted
Intel's Panther Lake processors may be a good distance down the line for Team Blue, but we've already had a sighting of support for these CPUs.
As VideoCardz reports, they've been spotted in AIDA64, the system info and diagnostics suite for PC.
The latest beta of AIDA64 (version 6.92.6610) was released last week and it comes with 'preliminary support,' the early groundwork for supporting Panther Lake when it actually arrives.

Intel will be launching its next-gen Meteor Lake CPUs later this year, with the rebranding to take place with this family of CPUs that will be starting out as the new Core Ultra 100 series processors. The start of this rebranding is coinciding with the release of Meteor Lake, with the Core Ultra 5 125H and Core Ultra 7 155H mobile processors rumored for a December 14 launch.
In total, we should see Intel announce 4 new Meteor Lake-H processors, with the Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 laptop processors launching first -- in December -- while the flagship Core Ultra 9 185H mobile processor boosting up to 5.1GHz will be launching in January. If that happens, it looks like Intel will have something very new to show off at CES 2024 which kicks off in Las Vegas on January 9 and runs through to January 12.
Asked if Intel can succeed in developing foundries and chips, AMD exec says, 'Of course not'
Intel has been in the semiconductor chip manufacturing game for a while. Recently, it's been looking to expand its foundries and production to the point where it could make cutting-edge chips for other companies, a territory we normally associate with TSMC and Samsung.
Currently, Intel is building and ramping up manufacturing in North America, Mexico, and Germany - and these foundries will be doing a lot more than simply creating chips for the latest generation of Core processors. Earlier this year, Intel and Arm announced a partnership to build mobile SoCs on Intel's 18A process node, and we've even heard from the likes of NVIDIA stating that it's open to working with Intel to produce its hardware.
All of this makes the recent statement from Darren Grasby, the executive vice president for strategic partnerships and president of AMD EMEA, a little shocking. His words were harsh when asked if Intel would succeed in its ambitious plans to build global foundries and develop and create chips for multiple companies. To say the least!
Intel Arrow Lake-S CPU power limits: 125W PL1, 177W PL2, and 333W PL4 on the way
It seems like it's the week for information on Intel's next-gen Arrow Lake platform, which will arrive after the 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" family of processors that are only a few days away now. Today, we're hearing about alleged power limits on Arrow Lake, so let's dive right in, shall we?
Intel's next-gen Arrow Lake-S processors with 8 P-Cores are based on the Lion Cove CPU architecture, while the 16 E-Cores are based on the new Crestmont CPU architecture: a grand total of 24 cores and 32 threads. This is no change to the current-gen Core i9-13900K and upcoming Core i9-14900K, by the way.
Onto the power limits: 125W baseline power seems to be the standard for Intel's upcoming unlocked CPUs, while the unlocked "K" series processors have a PL1 rating of 125W, while the specific SKU in question on these charts has a PL2 rating of 177W.

There's no need to overclock it, as you're going to be loving the performance squeezed out of it at stock... and you won't need some huge, expensive AIO liquid cooler. The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor will run on an air-cooler, which makes it an even better proposition for the best value for money gaming CPU money can buy... and now, it's available for $349.
Intel's new Core i9-14900K and Core i5-14600K processors listed by Spanish retailer
Intel's new 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" family of processors is only a few days away now, but now a Spanish retailer has listed both the Core i9-14900K and Core i5-14600K with some EU pricing for us to gander at.
Spanish CoolMod has listed 4 out of 6 new Raptor Lake Refresh processors on their website, and while the pricing isn't final -- we really should pay attention to this pricing as it's much closer to reality. Starting with the new flagship Core i9-14900K processor, which is listed at €799.96, which is €160 more expensive than the current-gen Core i9-13900K processor.
Moving onto the Core i5-14600K which is priced at €429.95, which is €88 more expensive than the Core i5-13600K processor. If you're looking at no integrated graphics, than the KF models are €190 and €70 more expensive for the Core i9-14900KF and Core i5-14600KF processors, respectively.
