Wuchang: Fallen Feathers reportedly sneaks in upscaling as a 'performance boost' in patch 1.3

Darren Allan | Gaming | Jul 28, 2025 1:23 PM CDT

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers continues to court controversy over its performance levels, with the latest twist being accusations of a sneaky fix for poor frame rates.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers reportedly sneaks in upscaling as a 'performance boost' in patch 1.3

If you missed the fuss around Wuchang: Fallen Feathers when it launched, the PC version didn't go down well at all in terms of FPS, and that was plainly clear from the Steam reviews. Complaints about sluggish performance were plentiful, as we highlighted at the time.

Since then, a patch has improved matters, but a YouTuber, Daniel Owen, has been delving into the source of these faster frame rates and his contention is that the gains aren't what they seem at first (as noticed by Tom's Hardware).

New Halo game required by 2026 or Halo Championships may lack a tournament game

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jul 28, 2025 12:30 PM CDT

Halo Infinite is being retired from esports tournaments, which means one of two things: A new Halo game will be ready in 2026 to replace Halo Infinite's place in esports, or Halo Studios could shut down the Halo Championship Series altogether.

New Halo game required by 2026 or Halo Championships may lack a tournament game

The devs at Halo Studios are moving on from Halo Infinite, at least in the official capacity for esports tournaments. While the studio will continue supporting Halo Infinite, the game will be pulled from Xbox's Halo Championship Series (HCS) competition.

"Once a world champion is crowned in October, the HCS will be retiring Halo Infinite from Official HCS Competition," the studio writes in an update.

Battlefield 6 gameplay leaks ahead of official unveiling, and it's made me nervous

Jak Connor | Gaming | Jul 28, 2025 10:42 AM CDT

Battlefield Labs is scheduled to unveil the multiplayer for Battlefield 6 on July 31 officially, and ahead of the unveiling, 2 minutes of gameplay footage have been posted to X.

Battlefield 6 gameplay leaks ahead of official unveiling, and it's made me nervous

The footage is among the other small clips that have surfaced throughout Battlefield Labs' playtests of Battlefield 6, but this time, we have a lengthy video to dive into. The Battlefield franchise began to experience a steady decline after the release of Battlefield 3, with EA releasing constant misses and players leaving the game over small changes. Now, with Battlefield 6 on the horizon, many longtime fans of the franchise are excited to see if that Battlefield feel has been reanimated in Battlefield 6. Judging by the gameplay, it has, but it also hasn't.

The gameplay shows intense gunplay in what appears to be a small city map, with extremely tight corners, high buildings, and fast movement. These aren't the hallmarks of classic Battlefield, which was known for its wide-open maps and lengthy skirmishes. At least on this map, and I really hope there is some variance in map size, it appears Battlefield 6 is leaning more toward an arcade experience akin to Call of Duty.

Intel is spinning off its Network and Edge Group into a stand-alone business

Kosta Andreadis | Networking | Jul 28, 2025 4:34 AM CDT

Intel is currently undergoing a significant transformation as it seeks to improve its financial performance under the guidance of CEO Lip-Bu Tan. With a $2.9 billion quarterly loss and 15,000 jobs set to be cut so the company can focus on core products and AI, we now have confirmation that Intel is planning to spin off its Network and Edge Group (NEX) into a standalone business.

Intel is spinning off its Network and Edge Group into a stand-alone business

This new information arrives via CRN, which obtained a memo addressed to its partners stating that it's looking for outside investment for its networking group. "We plan to establish key elements of our Networking and Communications business as a stand-alone company, and we have begun the process of identifying strategic investors," Intel said in a follow-up statement confirming the plan.

In addition to the news that Intel's next-gen 14A process node is currently on the chopping block if it can't find major customers, this is the latest move to streamline Intel, signed off by CEO Lip-Bu Tan.

AMD is using AI to help design its next-generation GPUs

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Jul 28, 2025 4:01 AM CDT

AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su attended the recent 'Winning the AI Race' summit, where she talked about how artificial intelligence and AI will be leveraged to design the company's next-generation graphics cards. With AMD moving to a unified architecture for both data center and consumer products, this presumably includes Radeon GPU hardware for the PC and console market.

AMD is using AI to help design its next-generation GPUs

However, it's worth noting that Lisa Su's remarks refer to GPU hardware and architecture designed with the help of AI, not GPUs designed solely by AI. This means that human engineers at AMD are still in charge. "We think about how AI will design future chips, and it will design pieces of it," Lisa Su said. "But there's still a creativity of bringing it all together that I think humans are still absolutely at the centre of."

"I don't necessarily see the AI designing our next-generation GPU," Lisa Su adds. "But I do see it helping us design the next-generation GPU much faster and more reliably." This isn't a new development, as NVIDIA has already stated that it uses AI to help speed up chip design, which appears to be what AMD is aiming for.

President Trump wants to rename 'Artificial Intelligence' to something else

Kosta Andreadis | Artificial Intelligence | Jul 28, 2025 3:33 AM CDT

AI is everywhere you look in the tech space, and other spaces for that matter, so it didn't come as a surprise that the current administration held a 'Winning the AI Race' summit in Washington. With all the big players in the AI space attending and speaking at the event, including NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, President Trump also took the time to discuss AI. Specifically, what he thought about the name.

President Trump wants to rename 'Artificial Intelligence' to something else

It turns out that President Trump is a big fan of U.S. leadership in all things artificial intelligence, but he has one glaring issue that he'd like to have resolved. No, it's not news that NVIDIA and TSMC were planning on manufacturing the next generation of Vera Rubin chips in America. It's the name.

"Around the globe, everyone is talking about artificial intelligence," Trump said. "Artificial, I can't stand it. I don't even like the name. I don't like anything that's artificial, so could we straighten that out, please? We should change the name. I actually mean that."

GeForce RTX 50 SUPER Series on track for a holiday 2025 release

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | Jul 28, 2025 3:07 AM CDT

Over the past couple of months, we've seen specs and details emerge for NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 50 SUPER Series refresh. With an RTX 5070 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 5080 SUPER on the way, the big takeaway is that there will be a massive 50% increase in VRAM capacity for all RTX 50 SUPER GPUs. Only the RTX 5070 SUPER is expected to receive a minor increase in CUDA Core count.

GeForce RTX 50 SUPER Series on track for a holiday 2025 release

With VRAM capacity being a hot topic for both high-end PC gaming and AI workloads, a GeForce RTX 5070 SUPER with 18GB of fast GDDR7 memory, and a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti SUPER and RTX 5080 SUPER with 24GB sound pretty good. The increased memory will also be accompanied by an increase in power draw, indicating that the SUPER series will ship with higher boost clock speeds than their non-SUPER counterparts.

There has been some speculation and rumor that NVIDIA was planning on releasing them in early 2026 with a big CES 2026 reveal. However, based on information obtained from sources, the RTX 50 SUPER Series refresh is actually on track for a holiday 2025 or Q4 2025 release.

Intel CEO confirms that SMT (Hyper-Threading) will return to future-generation CPUs

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Jul 27, 2025 10:10 PM CDT

Intel will be reintroducing SMT or Hyper-Threading to future-generation CPUs says its new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, in the middle of laying off 15% of its overall staff and 50% of its management layers.

Intel CEO confirms that SMT (Hyper-Threading) will return to future-generation CPUs

We don't know if the return of SMT will be for data center CPUs, but it would be nice to see the reintroduction of Hyper-Threading to consumer gaming processors to increase its competitiveness against CPU rival AMD. Intel began moving away from Hyper-Threading (or SMT) with its 12th Gen Core CPUs, as it started moving toward asymmetrical CPU designs.

Intel first enabled SMT on P-Cores and then after a while, completely eliminated Hyper-Threading on its 15th Gen Core CPUs. Intel's next-gen Nova Lake CPUs will NOT feature SMT, or even the generation after that, with rumors that we'll see "Unified Cores" with its future-gen Titan Lake CPUs.

NVIDIA's new RTX 5090 D V2 for gamers in China costs $830 less than RTX 5090 D

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jul 27, 2025 8:08 PM CDT

NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 5090 D V2 graphics card launches in China on August 12, with reports that the new made-for-China variant will be $830 cheaper than the RTX 5090 D.

NVIDIA's new RTX 5090 D V2 for gamers in China costs $830 less than RTX 5090 D

The $380 price reduction is a good thing to see, but gamers in China will be losing 12GB of VRAM as the RTX 5090 D V2 comes with 24GB of GDDR7 compared to the RTX 5090 D which packs the full 32GB of GDDR7 memory. The RTX 5090 D was already cut down from the RTX 5090, but the new RTX 5090 D V2 is cut down again.

When it comes to availability, it seems that the RTX 5090 D is mostly sold out and it is the last batch on Chinese shores. According to a post on Chiphell, "sthuasheng" writes: "now the flagship stores of various platforms are on sale, basically 19999 (yuan), the same as H20, the 5090D sold this time are the batch of goods produced before the new regulations came out, because the ban on sales was forced to become inventory after the new regulations came out".

Samsung signs $16.5 billion foundry contract lasting to 2033, rumored to be for Tesla FSD chips

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Jul 27, 2025 7:50 PM CDT

Samsung Electronics has announced that it has signed a new $16.5 billion contract to supply semiconductors to a "major global corporation" which is rumored to be Tesla for FSD chips.

Samsung signs $16.5 billion foundry contract lasting to 2033, rumored to be for Tesla FSD chips

Tesla needs as many FSD (Full Self-Driving) chips that it can get, with reports that the Elon Musk-led company secured orders for its latest Tesla FSD chips with TSMC on its 4nm/5nm process nodes in March 2025. The new $16.5 billion contract started on July 24, 2025 and runs through to December 31, 2033.

The "major global corporation" hasn't been disclosed, but insider @Jukanrosleve on X says it's "presumed to be with Tesla" which makes sense. Samsung is also fabbing NVIDIA's new custom Tegra T239 SoC for Nintendo and its new Switch 2 gaming handheld, but a huge Tesla contract would be a big win for Samsung Foundry which has been struggling in the semiconductor business against TSMC for many years now.

GIGABYTE RTX 5090 works with leaked ROG Astral RTX 5090 XOC BIOS: provides 1600W power limit

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jul 27, 2025 7:16 PM CDT

GIGABYTE's custom GeForce RTX 5090 AORUS Master graphics card has had its BIOS flashed with the leaked XOC BIOS for the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 D, pushing its power limit to 1600W and providing around 10% more performance over the stock BIOS.

GIGABYTE RTX 5090 works with leaked ROG Astral RTX 5090 XOC BIOS: provides 1600W power limit

YouTuber JayzTwoCents used the leaked XOC BIOS for the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 D on his GIGABYTE RTX 5090 (non-D) AORUS Master, which on the ROG Astral RTX 5090 enables a huge 2001W power limit, but on the RTX 5090 non-D it's limited to 1600W. None of the custom RTX 5090 cards have dual 16-pin power connectors, which is why we won't see them pushed up to 2001W TDPs.

Once the XOC BIOS was flashed to the RTX 5090 AORUS Master, JayzTwoCents noticed that one of the fans on graphics card stopped spinning, which is because the RTX 50 series GPUs support up to three fan controllers, and the ROG Astral RTX 5090 has four fans but uses two controllers.

Battlefield 6 PC system requirements leaked, requires only 30GB of storage (!)

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jul 27, 2025 6:13 PM CDT

Battlefield 6 is going to be one of the biggest games of 2026, and with its leaked PC system requirements seeing gamers require just 30GB of storage space... that is a surprising move in a world where Call of Duty can chew through an insane 300GB+ of storage.

Battlefield 6 PC system requirements leaked, requires only 30GB of storage (!)

The Battlefield 6 PC system requirements come from HyperPC picked up by @BattlefieldIntel on X, pointing towards only 30GB of storage, and pretty tame minimum system requirements of an Intel Core i5-8400 processor, 16GB of RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060.

The recommended system requirements for Battlefield 6 are bumped up a bit, with an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, the same 16GB RAM, and a higher-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card. However, the 4K Ultra requirements are pretty hardcore with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor, 32GB of RAM (that's not that bad), and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card.

A new Friday the 13th video game is on the way, producer Robert Barsamian announced at San Diego Comic-Con.

New Friday the 13th video game in development alongside new film

With both Clive Barker and even John Carpenter working on games, the demand for horror movie games appears to be strong. Film companies are now more willing to license out big names like Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Friday the 13th. The last F13 game, an online-driven multiplayer game, was pulled offline last year due to licensing. Now Jason Voorhees is coming back to the gaming world courtesy of Horror Inc's Jason Universe, a new brand name that handles the Friday the 13th franchise.

"I can tell you that a new sequel movie and new sequel game are at the top of our list. In fact, it's where most of our energy's going right now. And I can tell you, finally, we're in a position to deliver on that," said Horror Inc president Robert Barsamian.

FromSoftware recently announced sales updates for both Shadow of the Erdtree and the new Nightreign spinoff. According to the figures, Nightreign has sold 5 million units (including pre-orders) so far, a great performance for a multiplayer-only spinoff; to put these numbers into perspective, some AAA games are lucky to hit 5 million sales, let alone a side game that requires users to always be online.

Shadow of the Erdtree is now at 10 million sales, up from the 5 million sales figure that Bandai Namco reported shortly after launch (Erdtree had hit 5 million sales in 3 days, making up more than half of Bandai Namco's total game sales for the quarter).

Lian Li's O11D MINI V2 is a compact case with full ATX support

Kosta Andreadis | Cases, Cooling & PSU | Jul 27, 2025 8:27 AM CDT

Lian Li's original O11D Mini chassis was widely praised when it debuted, offering a modular design that offered versatile build options and the space to house even the largest desktop graphics cards. The highly anticipated follow-up, the Lian Li O11D MINI V2, has finally arrived - and this time it's got even more room.

Lian Li's O11D MINI V2 is a compact case with full ATX support

With only a minor 2L or 2-liter volume increase over the original, it's enough for the O11D MINI V2 to offer full ATX support for both motherboards and power supplies. Yes, not only is the Lian Li O11D MINI V2 an excellent case for building an M-ATX or Mini-ITX rig with overclocked components, a powerful GPU, and ample cooling, but it also supports full-sized motherboards and power supplies.

However, when it comes to 200mm ATX PSU support, this is enabled with an offset mounting bracket and "side panel protrusion." This is something we noticed when we first saw the O11D MINI V2 at Computex 2025, where, at the time, Lian Li explained that it was due to them sticking to a strict 45-liter limitation for the case.
