Sony's PlayStation brand may be readying its own answer to Xbox's Play Anywhere with a simplified cross-buy initiative.

PlayStation may offer its own Play Anywhere cross-buy for PC games

Sony might bring back cross-buy for the modern PlayStation era. Dataminer Amethxst has purportedly uncovered some interesting new graphics that could indicate at a PC/PS5 dual-entitlement cross-buy feature coming to the PlayStation Store. The idea is simple: Buy 1 game, and play it on 2 platforms, PC and/or PS5--one purchase, two licenses.

Technically, cross-buy isn't new for Sony. The company offered cross-buy between its handheld and console hardware lineup during the PS Vita, PSP, and PS3 days. Microsoft took the idea and ran with it, spending years and millions of dollars better connecting its console and Windows PC ecosystems, eventually facilitating anext-gen device that merges the two together.

Battlefield 6 sales could be as high as 10 million across consoles and PC, with Steam users in particular gravitating towards the release.

Report: Battlefield 6 sales break 10 million copies on all platforms, with PC leading

EA's latest shooter has become a mega-hit with 10 million copies sold--at least that's the latest estimates from number-crunching firm Alinea Analytics. According to head of market analysis Rhys Elliott, the firm has Battlefield 6 sales at just over 10 million in less than a month. This estimate is reinforced by the game's consistent placement on each platform's top-sellers' list; at the time of writing, Battlefield 6 is the #1 best-seller on both PlayStation and Xbox; however the game has dropped to #4 on Steam (after weeks at #1).

While Battlefield 6 is doing incredibly well out of the gate, the mighty maw of Call of Duty is expected to overshadow EA's franchise. Black Ops 7 is still expected to reign supreme, with Xbox capitalizing on decades of top-selling game releases and the franchise's engaged audience composed of tens of millions of users.

AMD confirms critical security risk for many Zen 5 CPUs

Jak Connor | Processors | Nov 5, 2025 11:17 AM CST

AMD has detailed in a new security bulletin a critical CPU vulnerability that has been labeled "AMD-SB-7055," and can be traced to the RDSEED hardware-based random number generator.

AMD confirms critical security risk for many Zen 5 CPUs

Modern CPUs include hardware instructions such as RDRAND and RDSEED to generate random numbers directly from silicon. These random numbers are then utilized by software and the operating system for cryptographic functions such as generating encryption keys, tokens, or secure session IDs.

For example, RDRAND produces pseudo-random numbers that are from an entropy pool, while RDSEED produces raw entropy, otherwise known as the "seed", which is then used to construct cryptographically secure random number generators.

Apple's next generation iPhone 18 to launch with a bold new color

Jak Connor | Mobile Devices | Nov 5, 2025 10:17 AM CST

Apple only recently launched the iPhone 17 generation and we are already hearing about what the company will be changing with the iPhone 18 generation.

Apple's next generation iPhone 18 to launch with a bold new color

The rumor comes from Weibo user, Setsuna Digital, that Apple will be picking either brown, purple, or burgundy for the iPhone 18 Pro. Notably, Setsuna Digital correctly predicted the release of a yellow finish for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, along with the Titanium Milanese loop for the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Despite those being correct predictions, we should still take this information with a healthy amount of skepticism considering it's a leak.

Notably, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max came with a Deep Purple color option, but Apple has never released a brown or burgundy. For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro, and Pro Max came in Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue. Apple is expected to launch the next generation iPhone in September 2026, which means there is still plenty of time for the company to finalize a color.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is launching on November 14, and Activision has revealed the full list of launch times on both PC and consoles.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 official launch times, hardware and software requirements

This year's new Call of Duty has probably the most competition it has had in quite a while, as EA's Battlefield 6 is already available and has reportedly moved as many as 10 million copies. Not to mention, Battlefield 6 REDSEC, the title's Battle Royale mode, has already launched, pulling players away from Call of Duty: Warzone.

The official system requirements for Black Ops 7 have been made available, and PC players will be glad to know they can get away with playing the upcoming title with a GPU and CPU as old as a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon RX 470, paired with an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 / Intel Core i5-6600, and 8GB of RAM.

Australia prohibits Kick and Reddit from under-16s in a sweeping social media ban

Jak Connor | Software & Apps | Nov 5, 2025 9:40 AM CST

Australia's eSafety Commission has declared that it will now be restricting access to platforms Reddit and Kick to individuals under the age of 16, which widens the recently implemented social media ban across the country.

Australia prohibits Kick and Reddit from under-16s in a sweeping social media ban

The live-streaming platform Kick and messaging board Reddit are now joining Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, which all now fall under the eSafety Commission's strict ban. Communications Minister Anika Wells announced on Wednesday that she had met with the major social media platforms to ensure there was "no excuse for failure" in making sure the ban was implemented.

Platforms that fail to correctly implement the ban by December 10 can face fines of up to $49.5 AUD million ($32.15 million USD). Some of the tech companies have argued that the Australian government's delayed release of information has made it difficult for them to implement the ban by December 10, as they don't have enough time to prepare for the incoming restrictions.

Scientists watched a black hole burp out the light of 10 trillion suns

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Nov 5, 2025 12:55 AM CST

Astronomers have detected the biggest black hole burp ever recorded using the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), tracing the event back to the supermassive black hole located at the center of a galaxy 10 billion light-years away.

Scientists watched a black hole burp out the light of 10 trillion suns

A black hole burp, or what is scientifically referred to as a flare, is an astronomical event that occurs when a black hole consumes an object. In the instance of this flare, researchers traced the eruption back to the supermassive black hole known as J2245+3743 and a star estimated to be 30 times the mass of the Sun getting stuck in the gravitational pull of the black hole. The result is the star being absolutely torn apart, and its material being added to the swirling, flattened disk seen around active black holes.

Researchers call this devouring of a star a tidal disruption event, and according to researchers, the flare emitted as much energy as 10 trillion suns. Notably, the flare was initially spotted in 2018 by the ZTF, but it wasn't until 2023 and data from the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii that showed the true nature of the flare, further cementing the theory that the black hole consumed an unusually large star.

North Korea stole billions of dollars to build its nuclear arsenal

According to the Treasury Department, North Korean cybercrime operations have amounted to as much as $3 billion worth of cryptocurrency being stolen from banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, and other digital platforms, all of which have been funneled back into the North Korean government to fund the development of its nuclear weapons program.

US officials have sanctioned Jang Kuk Chol and Ho Jong Son, who assisted in the management of $5.3 million in cryptocurrency that is connected to ransomware attacks and revenue from North Korean hackers. Furthermore, US officials have also sanctioned an IT firm called Korea Mangyongdae Computer Technology Corp., which runs IT worker delegations in China and uses local proxies to hide the source of stolen funds.

DDR5 memory costs double as DRAM prices surge by 171.8% year over year

Kosta Andreadis | RAM | Nov 4, 2025 11:37 PM CST

According to a new report from the Commercial Times (CTEE), DRAM contract prices increased by a massive 171.8% year-over-year in Q3 2025. The outlet notes that this increase has surpassed the rise of gold, with Tom's Hardware confirming that the flow-on effect is already in place, as evidenced by the price of 32GB of Corsair's Vengeance DDR5 memory doubling on Newegg since July.

DDR5 memory costs double as DRAM prices surge by 171.8% year over year

A $183 versus $91 price difference for system memory is a significant price hike, and it all comes down to supply not being able to keep up with the insatiable demand from the cloud-based AI and data center market. This news also follows our report from a few weeks ago, in which ADATA Chairman Chen Lebai said we were on the cusp of a historic shortage of DRAM, SSDs, and HDDs.

At the time, he noted that we would begin to see the effects of this as we head into 2026, with Phison's CEO adding that the shortages could last up to a decade. Foundries all over are struggling to keep up with demand, and client-focused customers like Corsair are now directly competing with AI and cloud companies for capacity. AI and cloud-based companies are buying up as much capacity as they can.

Warhammer Survivors is an official Vampire Survivors spin-off

Kosta Andreadis | Gaming | Nov 4, 2025 10:32 PM CST

Thanks to the success of Vampire Survivors, there are at least a dozen or so 'roguelite survivors' games that have found success in recent years. The simple, fun, and addictive blend of action-RPG and bullet hell mechanics with an almost "the game plays itself" feel is perfect for quick gaming sessions at home or on the go. Although the game's developer and publisher, Poncle, continues to create new content for the game, we're finally getting a legit official spin-off in the form of Warhammer Survivors.

Warhammer Survivors is an official Vampire Survivors spin-off

Watch the trailer above, and you'll definitely get the sense that it looks and feels like Vampire Survivors, but Warhammer. Although Poncle isn't behind this, the indie studio is collaborating with developer Auroch Digital (Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun) and Games Workshop on the project, and it's also being built on the same engine and technology.

Warhammer and Vampire Survivors fans will definitely want to put this one on their radar, as it will feature characters from the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar universes. Even the game's description reads like a fusion of these two things.

Google aims for the stars - literally - with new 'moonshot' project

Jak Connor | Artificial Intelligence | Nov 4, 2025 9:15 PM CST

Google is joining in on the recent push to get data centers off Earth and into orbit in an effort to harness the endless solar energy of the Sun.

Google aims for the stars - literally - with new 'moonshot' project

It was only recently that NVIDIA announced that a company called Starcloud is sending NVIDIA's AI GPUs to space, marking a moment in history when it comes to space-based compute, as the Starcloud-1 satellite offers 100x more GPU compute than any previous space-based operation. Why are companies looking to space for data centers? There are a few simple reasons.

The vacuum of space acts as an infinite heatsink, and the solar energy produced by the Sun is endless and free. Just those two facts combined mean energy costs in space will be 10x cheaper than land-based operations, even when including the cost to launch the data center, according to Starcloud. Google has now recognized the potential of space-based data centers with its announcement of a "moonshot" research project called "Project Suncatcher".

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will run on a GPU with only 3GB of VRAM, PC specs revealed

Kosta Andreadis | Gaming | Nov 4, 2025 7:01 PM CST

The full PC specs and requirements for the November 14 launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 have been revealed, and the game will be playable on pretty much any gaming PC built in the last decade. The reason for this is that the game is optimized for PC gaming handhelds, specifically the ROG Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X. This means that the game only needs a GPU with 3GB of VRAM to run, with 8GB being the recommended spec.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will run on a GPU with only 3GB of VRAM, PC specs revealed

For the game's 'Minimum' specs, Activision and Xbox list the mid-range Radeon RX 470 4GB graphics card from 2016, and the GeForce GTX 970 4GB graphics card from 2014. Of course, playing with the recommended specs is where you want to be, as you'll need a GeForce RTX 3060, Radeon RX 6600 XT, or Intel Arc B580 to hit 60 FPS with all graphics options set to high.

Based on the game's PC specs, it appears to be well-optimized for the platform, as the 4K 'Ultra' or competitive triple-digit performance GPU requirement is listed as either the Radeon RX 9070 XT or the GeForce RTX 5070. Regardless of the settings, as previously reported, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for its security and will be unplayable without them.

Lenovo unveils the world's lightest AI smart glasses

Jak Connor | Wearable Computing & Fashion | Nov 4, 2025 11:01 AM CST

Lenovo has jumped into the AI smart glasses market with the unveiling of V1, a pair of smart glasses that are lighter than any other competitor.

Lenovo unveils the world's lightest AI smart glasses

One of the biggest problems when it comes to smart glasses is the bulkiness that users have to endure, and while companies such as Meta are ironing out this issue with each new generation, AI smart glasses are generally still thicker and heavier than a traditional pair of reading glasses. This isn't surprising, given that AI smart glasses need to house all the necessary components within the glasses' frame, but the weight trade-off may outweigh the functionality they offer, making them a dealbreaker for some users.

Lenovo is looking to scoop those users up with the AI Glasses V1, which come in at just 36g, making them lighter than the Rokid Glasses, which weigh 49 g. The V1 glasses are only 1.8mm thick and feature a resin diffraction waveguide display that has a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. Additionally, the V1 glasses support a 15 x 11 mm eye-box, which assists in keeping visuals stable as the user is moving their head. Users can also switch between monocular and binocular display modes.
