ASUS announces quad-slot GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER with a massive Noctua cooler

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 30, 2024 10:35 PM CST

ASUS has just announced its new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Noctua Edition graphics card, and it is really a big boy graphics card... check it out:

ASUS announces quad-slot GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER with a massive Noctua cooler

This isn't ASUS' first rodeo when it comes to GeForce RTX series Noctua Edition graphics cards, with its beefy new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Noctua Edition featuring a huge Noctua heatsink and dual 120mm Noctua NF-A12x25 PWN fans. There's a vapor chamber cooler and heatsink, with ASUS increasing the frame to house the two Noctua fans.

The current ASUS GeForce RTX 4080 Noctua Edition graphics card is one of the wildest-looking, most noise-efficient designs on the market, but it requires three fans. The new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Noctua Edition uses just two fans in comparison, cutting an entire fan from the card... so it should be even quieter.

Intel's next-next-gen Celestial and Druid GPU rumor: no discrete GPU, will be GPU Tile on APUs

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 30, 2024 8:10 PM CST

Intel's next-gen Battlemage GPU architecture launches this year, but after that, its next-next-gen Celestial and Druid GPUs could be GPU Tiles on future APUs from Intel, according to the latest rumors.

Intel's next-next-gen Celestial and Druid GPU rumor: no discrete GPU, will be GPU Tile on APUs

In his latest video, Tom from Moore's Law is Dead reports from his sources that both Celestial and Druid have a single tile configuration and are listed (internally at Intel) as alternative flagships for their GPU architectures. This could suggest that Intel is "considering fully canceling" its discrete graphics cards and has already reportedly started the groundwork for Arc to only consist of GPU Tiles after Battlemage.

So, what does this mean for Intel's range of Arc GPUs? Well, Arc Alchemist is already on the market and hasn't been doing too badly... but it doesn't come close to competing with AMD's flock of Radeon GPUs or NVIDIA's fleet of GeForce RTX series GPUs. It's next-gen Battlemage GPU will be better, but it will still only compete with what's on the market now from both AMD and NVIDIA... but won't come close to next-gen GPU offerings.

NVIDIA moves up GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER reviews to January 31, gives reviewers another 24 hours

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 30, 2024 7:02 PM CST

NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER graphics card reviews were meant to go live today, but they aren't... NVIDIA has moved up the NDA until tomorrow, January 31.

NVIDIA moves up GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER reviews to January 31, gives reviewers another 24 hours

The company originally announced its new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER alongside the new GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER and GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER graphics cards back at CES 2024 in early January, with a review embargo on the RTX 4080 SUPER for January 30.

The reason for NVIDIA pushing the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER graphics card review NDA to January 31 is that some reviewers didn't get their samples on time, which makes sense. I reviewed graphics cards for TweakTown for 10+ years before the new GPU God in Kosta took over, so I know this has happened first hand before. It's not new, and it gives those reviewers who got their cards late time to catch up and those who have the RTX 4080 SUPER more time to complete their testing.

AMD has released a new graphics driver specifically for a single game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

AMD's new graphics driver is only for one game, fixing graphics corruption with Suicide Squad

The new Adrenalin Edition version 23.40.02.03 has an important fix for Suicide Squad, namely a cure for issues with graphics corruption when ray tracing is enabled.

Clearly, this must be an irksome enough glitch to warrant the deployment of a new graphics driver.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT price drops to below MSRP, models available for as low as $479

Kosta Andreadis | Jan 29, 2024 9:29 PM CST

2024 has only just begun, and we've had a major shake-up to NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40 Series thanks to the arrival of three brand-new SUPER GPUs covering the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT price drops to below MSRP, models available for as low as $479

AMD has also launched its own mainstream GPU in the form of the Radeon RX 7600 XT with 16GB of VRAM for $329 USD - but it's the arrival of the SUPER trio that has led to a shake-up in Radeon RX 7000 Series pricing. Ahead of the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER's launch, AMD informed us that the price of its high-end Radeon RX 7900 XT was temporarily dropping to $749 USD and lower.

With the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER replacing the GeForce RTX 4070 at $599, pushing its MSRP down to $549 - it now looks like the popular Radeon RX 7800 XT is not only sticking to its $499 price tag, but some models are dropping down to $479 over at retailer Newegg and Amazon.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 doesn't lose much performance in external GPU using OCulink

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 29, 2024 8:37 PM CST

NVIDIA's flagship GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card has been used as an external GPU through an OCulink connector and benchmarked in 3DMark benchmarks with some surprising results. Check them out:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 doesn't lose much performance in external GPU using OCulink

Chinese reviewer "Golden Pig Upgrade" has used both NVIDIA's flagship GeForce RTX 4090 and new GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER graphics card with an OCulink connector, used as an external desktop GPU and into a new laptop powered by Intel's new Core Ultra 5 125H processor. We get to see some bottlenecks in action, which is very interesting to see.

Starting with the GeForce RTX 4090 connected through OCulink in the pictures above, we have 3DMark TimeSpy scores of 36487 points when used in desktop form, while in the graphics dock and internal display used, we have 28230 points (a larger 22.6% reduction in performance, while in the graphics dock and the RTX 4090 using the external display scoring 30429 points which is a 16.6% performance loss over OCulink.

Samsung to show off the world's fastest GDDR7 memory at 37Gbps for next-gen GPUs at ISSCC

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 29, 2024 5:01 PM CST

Samsung will be showcasing its next-gen GDDR7 memory clocked at 37Gbps bandwidth at the ISSCC conference between February 18 and February 22, so... next month, we'll get a taste of ultra-fast next-gen memory ready for next-gen graphics cards.

Samsung to show off the world's fastest GDDR7 memory at 37Gbps for next-gen GPUs at ISSCC

GDDR7 memory has already been announced at up to 32Gbps, but we've got Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron all in the GDDR7 battle, and now Samsung is going to show off its 37Gbps GDDR7 memory next month. Micron won't have its GDDR7 ready until at least 2026, and that'll only be 36Gbps.

Samsung and SK hynix will roll out their GDDR7 memory at lower speeds at first, with 32Gbps as the entry-level for next-gen GDDR7 memory; after that, we'll see 35Gbps and then 37Gbps after that for refreshed GPUs, I'd say. I think we'll see NVIDIA introduce its lower-end GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, like the GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 with GDDR7 memory at 32Gbps, while the higher-end GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 with GDDR7 memory at 35Gbps.

Intel next-gen flagship Battlemage GPU leaked specs: performance similar to RTX 4070 SUPER

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 28, 2024 5:47 PM CST

Intel's next-gen Battlemage GPU will reportedly only be in discrete graphics card form, with no laptop variants on offer, according to the latest rumor... and now we've got some new leaked specs on Intel's upcoming Battlemage GPU family.

Intel next-gen flagship Battlemage GPU leaked specs: performance similar to RTX 4070 SUPER

In his latest video, Tom from Moore's Law is Dead leaks that Intel's next-gen G31 "Battlemage" GPU will be made on TSMC's 5nm process node, featuring up to 512 EUs (Execution Units). Intel's flagship Battlemage GPU will have 512 EUs, joined by 16GB of VRAM (either GDDR6 or GDDR6X) on a 256-bit memory bus.

Under that, MLID reports that the second SKU will feature 448 EUs and the same 16GB of VRAM on a 256-bit memory bus, while Tom has seen references to a "384 EU" variant, adding that he's "not sure this is planned to release publically". Under that, we've got lower-end Battlemage SKUs, including a 320 EU version with 12GB of RAM and two 256 EU models: one with 10GB of VRAM and another with 8GB of VRAM.

Intel rumored to not have next-gen Battlemage GPUs for laptops, only discrete graphics cards

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 28, 2024 5:09 PM CST

Intel will be launching its next-gen Xe-HPG "Battlemage" GPU architecture later this year, where we're being promised new discrete Battlemage graphics cards for gamers in 2025... but man, these new leaks are a continuing depressing story for Intel and its GPU department.

Intel rumored to not have next-gen Battlemage GPUs for laptops, only discrete graphics cards

In a new video, Moore's Law is Dead goes into some detail about Intel's next-gen Battlemage GPU, saying that Intel will not have any add-in GPUs for laptops based on its Battlemage architecture. Why? Well, laptop makers and OEMs just don't want to bother with it after Alchemist, which is a pretty major deal.

MLID had one of his sources also talk about the "ultra-enthusiast" Alchemist+ GPU: "Honestly, I have no idea where that guy that roadmap with "Alchemist+" discrete on it allegedly launching in 2023... all I can tell you is that there were no legit roadmaps with ACM+ on them by the time the A770 launched... if ever".

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super GPU reportedly sold well on launch - showing the value of 16GB VRAM?

Darren Allan | Jan 26, 2024 8:03 AM CST

Some reported sales figures for NVIDIA's just-released RTX 4070 Ti Super paint a much more positive picture than other recent leaks around the RTX Super refreshes.

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super GPU reportedly sold well on launch - showing the value of 16GB VRAM?

VideoCardz noticed the report from German site 3DCenter, which details the purported launch day figures from Mindfactory, a major retailer in that country.

Obviously use caution around any leaked figures, but we're told that the RTX 4070 Ti Super shifted 280 to 300 units on its first day (some approximation is involved with how some models sold).

MSI releases BIOS update for its GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER GPUs that boosts performance by 5%

Kosta Andreadis | Jan 24, 2024 10:34 PM CST

Our first GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER review, which you can read in full, covers the premium ROG Strix OC model from ASUS. Usually, the first reviews we publish for a GeForce RTX launch cover reference-spec cards that launch with prices that match the MSRP set by NVIDIA. And that was the plan, with our review of the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER Ventus 3X ready to drop.

MSI releases BIOS update for its GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER GPUs that boosts performance by 5%

But, a day or so before the review was set to go live, we got word that it was underperforming by around 5%, so we postponed the review because it wouldn't make sense for it to include incorrect benchmark data and conclusions.

Today, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER launches, bringing 16GB of VRAM and a boost to 4K gaming performance for the same $799 MSRP; MSI has released a statement about the performance discrepancy alongside an apology and a way for all those who pick up an MSI branded GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER to update the card's BIOS to reclaim some performance.

NVIDIA has released a new GeForce Game Ready GPU driver that brings in support for the just-released RTX 4070 Ti Super graphics card, and does a lot more besides.

NVIDIA's new graphics driver supports RTX 4070 Ti Super GPU and transforms SDR videos into HDR

Probably the most eye-catching trick here is the introduction of RTX Video HDR, which uses the RTX graphics card's Tensor cores to take video in Standard Dynamic Range and seriously jazz it up with far more vivid colors HDR-style.

It also ekes out additional detail that may have been lost thanks to video compression on the likes of YouTube, NVIDIA notes, and you can see RTX Video HDR in action in the video above.

NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super leak suggests a GPU that might be a touch faster than we expected

Darren Allan | Jan 24, 2024 11:35 AM CST

NVIDIA's RTX 4080 Super is the only Lovelace refresh left to be released in January - it comes out in a week's time, on the last day of the month - and we're now starting to see leaked benchmarks for this graphics card.

NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super leak suggests a GPU that might be a touch faster than we expected

Benchleaks has flagged up a number of results for the RTX 4080 Super with the main caveat being that these are Geekbench runs - not the best way of evaluating a GPU's gaming chops, of course.

We also need to add seasoning to any leaked benchmarks, but with all that noted, the scores are obviously still worth examining.

AMD Fluid Motion Frames has launched, bringing frame generation to every DirectX 11 and 12 game

Kosta Andreadis | Jan 23, 2024 11:04 PM CST

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 24.1.1 is here, and it's a big one, with the latest Radeon graphics driver not only adding support for the brand new AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT 16GB (stay tuned for our full review), but it marks the official release of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) - the driver-based frame generation technology for all Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000 owners. Plus, Radeon 700M mobile cards too.

AMD Fluid Motion Frames has launched, bringing frame generation to every DirectX 11 and 12 game

AFMF can be enabled in all DirectX 11 and 12 games globally on a per-game basis, and when paired with upscaling technology like FSR 2, it can "boost FPS up to 97% for a smoother gaming experience." AMD highlights the new Radeon RX 7600 XT specifically in the release notes while adding that AFMF preserves image quality by automatically disabling when fast movement is detected.

Like all frame generation, a baseline performance of around 60 FPS is recommended before turning it on - in addition to enabling AMD Radeon Anti-Lag to reduce in-game latency.
