Why the Ryzen AI 300 series? Intel's next-generation Core Ultra 200 series "Arrow Lake" CPUs will be launching, so AMD can't have the previously rumored Ryzen AI 100 series names, with Chinese leaker Golden Pig Upgrade giving us the update on what he's hearing regarding AMD's next-gen desktop-focused Zen 5 processors.

Golden Pig Upgrade explains: "Strix Point was renamed again: Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, Ryzen AI 9 365, those who are familiar with DIY must be familiar with this practice. After all, the Core Ultra 200 series will be released soon. If AMD starts from 100 again, it will suffer a numerical loss, so they will start directly from the 300 series. If you want to make up for it, you can also say this is the third generation with NPU".

Intel is ramping up into the release of its next-gen Xeon "Emerald Rapids" CPU family, with some new information teasing the flagship 64-core, 128-thread Xeon 8592+ processor.

The new Intel Xeon 8592+ processor was spotted in its engineering sample form, with a CPU base clock of 1.9GHz and a boost clock of 3.9GHz, but with this being an ES processor, we should expect higher clocks when the processor is in retail form. We have a base TDP of 350W, but it can be adjusted to 420W while peak power will reach 500W. The pre-release sample seems to have a 922W peak power, but I hope we don't see that number in retail form.

Intel's new Emerald Rapids-based Xeon 8592+ processor will have 448MB of combined cache (120MB L2 cache + 320MB of L3 cache), which is a near doubling over the 232MB of cache on the previous-gen flagship Xeon 8490H "Sapphire Rapids" CPU.

At Intel's big Innovation 2023 event, CEO Pat Gelsinger confirmed that the company would adopt a 3D Cache approach for CPUs in the future - though it won't be a part of the upcoming Meteor Lake roadmap. The confirmation came during a Q&A session where someone asked if Intel was considering adopting something similar to AMD's 3D V-Cache processors.

AMD 3D V-Cache powered Ryzen X3D processors have proved to be excellent performers for PC gaming. However, the 3D stacking of cache is a TSMC packaging technology for chips that AMD has taken advantage of - so it's not proprietary.

Intel confirming that it is planning to adopt a similar thing for upcoming CPUs is interesting stuff. Still, Pat Gelsinger added, "We're doing that differently in our composition," with the company looking to stack CPU compute on top of memory. And Intel will leverage its own process technology and foundries to deliver the technology.
