Nintendo's official investor relations division squashes recent Switch Pro reports, says it has no plans for a new next-gen Switch capable of 4K gaming.
A new report from says that nearly a dozen game developers possess devkits for Nintendo's next-gen 4K-ready Switch, and that preparations to release enhanced 4K resolution games by late 2022 are under way. Nintendo corporate has stepped in to say these claims are false:

Report: Next-gen Nintendo Switch Pro 4K dev kits are out in the wild
Nearly a dozen video game developers have access to an early version of Nintendo's next-gen Switch 4K console, sources tell Bloomberg's Takashi Mochizuki.
Devkits of Nintendo's next upgraded Switch have been released to over 10 game developers, sources tell Bloomberg. The new system runs on unspecified new hardware and is capable of performing 4K gaming with enhanced visuals and in-game effects that are believed to outpace the current model's limited custom hybridized Tegra X1 chipset.
Depending on which chips are used it's possible that the Switch 4K devkits are closer to PC hardware than actual retail units. NVIDIA's Orin chips, which may power the 4K-ready Switch, are not due out until 2022.

Someone made a real life Apex Legends Loot Tick robot, it even walks
The amount of hours put into this Apex Legends Loot Tick robot is simply incredible, my brain just doesn't work like this -- hats off to YouTuber The3DPrintSpace -- or Graham Watson, and his real-life Apex Legends Loot Tick robot. Check it out:
He even labels it as his new thing, a "crazy mechanical/robotic design" where his first project is the Apex Legends Loot Tick robot. The robot actually walks, talks, and can be mean to the smaller loot ticks. It's utterly amazing to see up and running, and the entire build in the 41-minute video.
You can watch every nitty-gritty moment of construction of the real-life Apex Legends Loot Tick, and it just makes me want to see Graham make more fantastical things like this from the gaming worlds we all play and love. If this replica is his first attempt at designing, building, and programming a robot -- then holy hell I can't wait to see what he can do next.

Steam Deck benchmarked: 60FPS in AAA games, Cyberpunk 2077 at 30FPS
Valve's new Steam Deck portable gaming consoles will be running an AMD APU and Steam OS, and has now had some early benchmarks run on it with a few different games.
The new benchmarks run were run by a Chinese user who ran some tests on Shadow of the Tomb Raider, DOOM Eternal, Dota 2, and even Cyberpunk 2077. Performance is impressive across the board, with the Steam Deck running Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 30-60FPS average depending on the graphics settings.
Even a great-looking, and very well-optimized game like DOOM Eternal was running at 46FPS average on a custom graphics setting, and up to 60FPS average on low graphics settings. The super-popular Dota cranks along at 47FPS average on high settings, while it pushes 80FPS average on low settings.

New Twisted Metal could be Sony's free-to-play answer to Rocket League
Sony's new Twisted Metal game may not be a premium battle royale crash-em-up. There's a chance it could be a F2P digital titles on PS4 and PS5 consoles (and maybe even PC and mobile too).
The next Twisted Metal game will be developed by Destruction AllStars developer Lucid Games, sources have told VideoGameChronicle. Sources also hinted the Twisted Metal would be a free-to-play experience (with microtransactions) to help bolster Sony's recurring monetization revenues and PS Plus subscriber retention.
This news aligns with Sony's current open-ended business model. Sony management has promised that more PlayStation IP will expand to PC and mobiles, and more live service titles with social integration will also roll out.

Diablo 2 Resurrected offline play requires repeated internet check-ins
Plan on playing Diablo 2 Resurrected offline? You'll still have to log in from time to time for authentication.
Like the original game, Diablo 2 Resurrected supports full offline play. Rightly so considering the Switch practically demands it. The game will still require you to go online and log into Battle.net at different points so Blizzard can make sure you own the game. In essence, D2R has offline DRM and the game can't be played completely online in perpetuity.
"An internet connection is required to download the client. Single Player mode may be played offline, but a connection to the internet will be required on occasion for periodic updates and authentication checks," the game's launch page says.

Amazon's New World MMO hits huge 707,000 player peak on Steam
Amazon's New World MMORPG is the hottest new game on Steam (but hopefully your GPU is staying cool).
It's a brave new world for Amazon, a company who has spend millions on troubled games development. With its fresh MMORPG New World, Amazon's bet into gaming seems to be paying off--at least when it comes to player adoption.
According to SteamDB, New World has amassed a 707,230 peak concurrent player count during launch and has penetrated Steam's top-10 concurrent players charts in just 24 hours. Right now New World sits at #5 after nudging out Valheim (502,837 players). That's a whole lot of sales.

Netflix makes its first official game studio acquisition as it gears up new video games business.
Streaming giant Netflix is getting into video games in a big way. Video games will be included free in all Netflix subscriptions starting with mobile phones and eventually other platforms including TVs. "Every device is a candidate for some sort of gaming experience," Netflix COO Greg Peters says.
Netflix has just purchased its first indie game studio to help realize this ambitious plan. The company has acquired indie game dev Night School, a team responsible for smaller games like the supernatural platformer Oxenfree. Netflix plans to start small and eventually ramp up to wider-scale experiences.

Halo Infinite Wraith, Chopper, and Wasp vehicles leaked before launch
Halo Infinite players have found a way to glitch into custom games which has led to various leaks for unreleased weapons and vehicles.
New Halo Infinite leaks have popped up from the recent technical test. We've already seen the devastating Hyrda gun return in Infinite, and now we get a glimpse at the pre-release versions of vehicles like the Wasp, the Wraith, and the Brute Chopper.
Infinite's Wraith is a big departure from the one featured in previous Halos. It's a Banished-theme crossover between the old-school Wraith and the Revenant from Halo 3 and Halo Reach. There's noticably less splash and more targeted projectile action from the main cannon, and the turret is pretty devastating, delivering shots in a straight linear path.

Sony teases 'exciting' PlayStation 5 firmware updates and new features
The PS5's recent firmware update was its biggest so far, but Sony is just getting started.
Sony just unlocked the PS5's M.2 SSD bay to allow expansion with PC-grade PCIe 4.0 SSDs. This represents the largest firmware update for the PS5 so far (technically there's only big two big ones) and Sony now teases more features are incoming.
In a recent PlayStation Blog post, SIE Senior Vice President of Platform Experience Hideaki Nishino said internal developers are planning out future PS5 firmware patches with player feedback in mind. While Nishino didn't outline exactly what's coming--maybe QoL improvements or the extremely innovative save-state sharing feature teased by patents--but he did say they'll be exciting and delight PS5 owners.

This PlayStation 5 game looks better than real life
The PS5 is capable of amazing-looking games like Spider-Man Miles Morales and Rachet and Clank Rift Apart, but this indie racing game really pushes the PS5's fidelity with incredible in-game visuals.
Milestone's motorcycle game Ride 4 was released in January 2021 on next-gen consoles, and is easily one of the best-looking games on the PlayStation 5. A video of the game running in first-person shows eye-popping graphics with high-end textures, realistic weather effects, and impressive water reflections to create an extremely immersive-looking experience.
What's more interesting is that Ride 4 runs at dynamic resolution at up to 4K 60FPS, not native 3480 x 2160, so we're seeing scaling in this video. Another great observation is how the environments are reflected back in the mirrors in real-time. And just for fun be sure to adjust the resolution to 360p for some amateurish GoPro visuals.

Warehouse-sized asteroid detected day after its close pass with Earth
A report from CNET indicates that a large space rock that is estimated to be as wide as a football field passed between Earth and the Moon, but no one knew until a day later.
The report states that asteroid 2019 SB flew past undetected as its orbit brought it to the stage where it was the closest to Earth on September 16. 2019 SB is estimated to be traveling at an incredible speed of 53,000 mph, and when it made its close approach to Earth, it was around 153,000 miles, which is a relatively short distance astronomically speaking.
For context on how much devastation 2019 SB would have inflicted if it reached Earth's surface, the asteroid that exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk back in 2013 was only 50 feet wide at the time of the explosion, but it exploded with a force the same as 440,000 tons of TNT. The explosion shattered windows in a large radius, injured more than 1,200 people, and cost the local government an estimated $33 million in repair costs.

You can now shoot beer bullets in Call of Duty's Oktoberfest DLC
Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War is about to enjoy its new Season 6 update, but before that we have the new Oktoberfest Bundle.
Activision teases that you can shoot beer bullets in Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, and that gamers need to "Grab your lederhosen and slosh your way through the battlefield". Interesting use of the world "battlefield" there, right before the launch of Battlefield 2042.
As for the new Oktoberfest Bundle, it includes the Lederhosen operator skin for Beck, two new weapon blueprints themed to booze -- the new weapons are the Hefeweizen and Kolsch, but there's also a new knife called Keg Tap. The beer bullets have a "beer tracer fire effect" which sees beer cans being fired out... pretty damn cool. There's also a new finishing move called Tapped Out, where you'll throw your enemy into the air and drop kick them in the face, also awesome.
