Razer Joro and Razer Basilisk Mobile is a new compact keyboard and mouse combo

Kosta Andreadis | Peripherals | May 9, 2025 12:57 AM CDT

The new Razer Joro and Razer Basilisk Mobile keyboard and mouse combo are lightweight, portable gaming peripherals designed for gamers on the go. The new Razer Basilisk Mobile is a lightweight 76-gram wireless gaming mouse with a look and feel inspired by Razer's popular Basilisk line of mice. The compact and ergonomic mouse offers up to 105 hours of battery life with tri-mode connectivity - Razer HyperSpeed Wireless, Bluetooth, and wired over USB.

Razer Joro and Razer Basilisk Mobile is a new compact keyboard and mouse combo

Underneath the hood, it's powered by the robust Razer Focus X 18K Optical Sensor, which offers 99.4% resolution accuracy. It also retains one of the best productivity features of Razer's recent Basilisk mice - Razer HyperScroll Technology. The scroll wheel provides tactile and free-spin modes alongside four-way tilt functionality. So even though you're looking at a more compact mouse for travel, Razer still promises gaming-grade performance.

The Razer Joro wireless keyboard is more of a departure. At first glance, it looks like a portable laptop keyboard, as if someone detached it from one of the latest Razer Blade laptops. The Razer Joro is described as an "ultra-low-profile" keyboard that maintains an ergonomic hand position, with a lightweight 374-gram build and thin 16.5mm profile.

You can now stream the complete Mafia series over the cloud with GeForce NOW

Kosta Andreadis | Gaming | May 8, 2025 11:31 PM CDT

Mafia, Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II, and Mafia III are now all playable on GeForce NOW, NVIDIA's streaming service, where you can game on a cloud-based GeForce RTX 4080. This announcement arrives alongside the latest gameplay trailer for Mafia: The Old Country, which is set to launch on April 8, 2025, on PC (Steam). As part of the big mafioso library of games coming to GeForce NOW, Mafia: The Old Country is set to arrive on the service on day one.

You can now stream the complete Mafia series over the cloud with GeForce NOW

This is a cool addition because it includes over two decades of games in a long-running series, with the original Mafia dating back to 2002. To put that into context, this is the year when Microsoft pushed its brand-new Windows XP operating system while most of us were still running Windows 98. It's also the year of the GeForce 4 series of graphics cards. For its time, the original Mafia was considered one of the most visually impressive games ever made, thanks to its digital recreation of a bustling fictional New York-inspired Empire Bay set in the 1930s.

Mafia: Definitive Edition, which was released in 2020, is an impressive, built-from-the-ground-up faithful remake of the original Mafia, so it's great to see both versions of the game supported on GeForce NOW.

Mafia: The Old Country is a 'focused, linear experience' and not open-world game like GTA 6

Kosta Andreadis | Gaming | May 8, 2025 11:02 PM CDT

Although Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed to May 26, 2026, the next entry in publisher 2K's other organized crime series is set to launch on August 8, 2025. Alongside the release date announcement for Mafia: The Old Country, which is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, a new gameplay trailer showcases its "focused, linear" cinematic action.

Mafia: The Old Country is a 'focused, linear experience' and not open-world game like GTA 6

The latest entry in the popular and long-running Mafia series is set in 1900s Sicily. Players take on the role of Enzo Favara as he "works his way up Don Torrisi's crime family." The trailer showcases several cinematic and gameplay elements snippets, including sections where Enzo is on horseback, driving a car, exploring ruins, and fighting through a lavish estate.

Although confirmation that the game will be linear might be a little confusing, even though Mafia has traditionally been compared to Rockstar's GTA series, most entries have been linear experiences set in open environments with minimal side activities. The vast locales are merely backdrops for the action.

Intel Core Ultra 200 CPUs with Z890 boards can't reach full PCIe Gen5 SSD speeds

Kosta Andreadis | Storage | May 8, 2025 10:02 PM CDT

A new report at The SSD Review has uncovered a potentially serious flaw with the latest Intel Core Ultra Series 200 CPUs and Z890 motherboards. According to the outlet's testing and investigation, high-speed PCIe 5.0 M.2 SDDs cannot achieve their maximum read throughput of 14GB/s or 14,0000 MB/s.

Intel Core Ultra 200 CPUs with Z890 boards can't reach full PCIe Gen5 SSD speeds

In 2025, several PCIe Gen5 SSDs are offering this speed (check out our recent review of the Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB SSD), so not being able to hit the maximum throughput means that pairing a fast PCIe Gen5 SSD with an Intel Core Ultra Series 200 CPU and Z890 motherboard means that these storage devices aren't running at their full or advertised capacity.

The SSD Review's investigation has found that these SSDs are topping out at 12GB/s or 12,000 MB/s. The outlet adds that it has been unable to find any review or record showcasing a 14GB/s capable Gen5 SSD hitting that speed on a Z890 motherboard. So then, what's going on?

GeForce RTX 5060 reviews to arrive after launch because there are no press drivers - report

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | May 8, 2025 9:29 PM CDT

A new report at Igor's Lab has information on the upcoming May 19 launch of the GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GPU from NVIDIA, the long-awaited successor to the popular RTX 3060 and RTX 4060. According to the report, the site won't publish a day-one or launch-day review for the mainstream RTX Blackwell GPU for a reason that raises a few questions.

GeForce RTX 5060 reviews to arrive after launch because there are no press drivers - report

As per the article, Igor's Lab notes that it has already received its GeForce RTX 5060 sample or samples; however, their review is delayed due to NVIDIA not providing any press drivers until launch. For those wondering, the review process for a GPU (check out our many reviews of RTX Blackwell and RDNA 4 here) involves receiving samples with enough lead time to ensure that reviews are ready (and as thorough as they can be) when stock hits shelves.

Part of this process includes gaining access to pre-release or press drivers, which specifically add support for the new GPU. In the case of GeForce RTX, official drivers are made available to the public on launch day with minimal, if any, changes to the pre-release or press drivers.

Intel Foundry rumored with possible Intel 18A process node orders with Intel, Google and NVIDIA

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | May 8, 2025 8:53 PM CDT

Intel is reportedly deep in discussions with NVIDIA, Google, and Microsoft to use its Intel 18A process node (classified as 2nm) for their upcoming chips, which would move some large orders away from TSMC.

Intel Foundry rumored with possible Intel 18A process node orders with Intel, Google and NVIDIA

In a post shared on X by insider @Jukanlosreve and reported by Korean media outlet Chosun, we're hearing that Intel Foundry's fresh new Intel 18A process node will enter stable mass production in the second half of the year, with Intel officially announcing in early April that 18A had entered risk production.

Intel Foundry being in discussions with the likes of NVIDIA, Google, and Microsoft could be a masterstroke move against TSMC in a world now controlled through tariffs under the Trump administration. Intel is a US-based company, and TSMC is a Taiwan-based company... if Intel is using its Intel Foundry semiconductor manufacturing arm on US soil, making and providing chips to US companies... then there are no tariffs.

Nintendo expects Switch to beat the DS and become its new best-selling system

Nintendo expects the Switch to become its new best-selling system of all time by March 2026.

Nintendo expects Switch to beat the DS and become its new best-selling system

The Nintendo DS' reign is about to end. That's according to Nintendo, whose latest hardware sales forecast shows the Switch 1 could outpace the legendary dual-screen handheld by early next year.

According to Nintendo's latest FY25 report, the Switch 1 family of consoles (launch model, Lite, OLED) has shipped a combined 152.12 million units globally. Nintendo actually expects to ship another 4.5 million Switch 1 consoles throughout the new Fiscal Year 2026 period (which began on April 1, 2025 and ends March 31, 2026). That would put the Switch's total shipments at 156.62 million compared to the Nintendo DS' longstanding 154.02 million.

Nintendo president says tariffs will drop profits by tens of billions of yen

Derek Strickland | Gaming | May 8, 2025 4:35 PM CDT

The current global tariff war will eat into Nintendo's bottom line and shave off hundreds of millions of dollars in net profit, company president Shuntaro Furukawa tells investors and media.

Nintendo president says tariffs will drop profits by tens of billions of yen

Tariffs have impacted Nintendo's Fiscal Year 2026 outlook. The Japanese games-maker expects its new Switch 2 platform to be a hit, with forecasts at 15 million systems shipped and 45 million games sold. Nintendo forecasts net sales to spike by +63% year-over-year to 1.9 trillion yen (about $13 billion in today's forex rates), and if achieved, this would be a new all-time earnings record.

Unfortunately, Nintendo's FY26 profit forecast isn't as optimistic, with a small +7.6% increase from FY25's results to deliver 300 billion yen (about $2 billion). This is on the lower end of Nintendo's annual profits made during the Switch 1's lifecycle.

Nintendo prepared to raise Switch 2 price if tariffs 'change significantly'

Derek Strickland | Gaming | May 8, 2025 3:25 PM CDT

Nintendo has carefully laid out its annual earnings forecast with only the current tariffs in mind, and if the economic landscape changes too much, Nintendo says it is prepared to consider a price hike.

Nintendo prepared to raise Switch 2 price if tariffs 'change significantly'

Today, Nintendo published its Fiscal Year 2025 results online, complete with Switch 2 sales predictions, and held a press briefing for Japanese media to discuss the numbers. Nintendo's forecast, which calls for 1.9 trillion yen in net sales ($13 billion), is modeled after the current tariff structure.

If tariffs were to dramatically shift upwards, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told reporters that the company is prepared to raise prices of its products to compensate. Nintendo has maintained the Switch 2's $450 price in the United States despite impact from tariffs, but that may change depending on market trends. Nintendo had already raised prices of its games to $80 for the new Switch 2 generation.

Nintendo's Switch 2 sales forecast is quite conservative, analyst says

Derek Strickland | Gaming | May 8, 2025 2:51 PM CDT

Nintendo's newly published Switch 2 sales forecast is conservative and reserved compared to analyst expectations.

Nintendo's Switch 2 sales forecast is quite conservative, analyst says

Nintendo expects the Switch 2 to sell 15 million units in about 10 months, making it the fastest-selling console ever. This milestone is impressive on paper, but comparing the forecast with historical results shows that the Switch 2 would only beat the Switch 1's first-year sales by some 130,000 units (with 2 months to spare).

Analysts like Niko Partners director of research and insights Daniel Ahmad says that this estimate is an example of Nintendo holding back and being reserved, which is typical of the company. Niko Partners had the Switch 2 shipping 14.5 million consoles in just a six-month period (by the end of December 2025). Nintendo's 15 million Switch 2 estimate is sizable 10-month period ranging from June 2025 - March 2025, and in Niko's forecast, the Switch 2 would hit 14.5 million with an entire extra 3-month quarter to spare.

Nintendo expects Switch 2 to be the fastest-selling console of all time

Derek Strickland | Gaming | May 8, 2025 2:14 PM CDT

The Switch 2 could ship 15 million units in its first year, making it the fastest-selling video games console in history.

Nintendo expects Switch 2 to be the fastest-selling console of all time

Nintendo today published its Q4 FY25 results, showing a predictable drop in earnings as consumers gear up for the Switch 2's launch. The company published its sales forecasts for the Switch 2 which see the system shipping 15 million consoles worldwide. Given this time period is only 10 months (Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025, and Nintendo's FY26 ends on March 31, 2026), the Switch 2 would be the highest-selling system in a such a period, also making it the fastest-selling system in terms of sell-in/shipment volume.

We've put together a quick checklist based on historical data to show how the Switch 2's forecasted results weigh against other historical hardware launches. Bear in mind all of the platforms included in our comparisons are based on 12-month sales except for the Wii U, which achieved 3.61 million shipments in 9 months, and the aforementioned Switch 2, which is expected to ship 15 million units in 10 months.

Sony WH-1000XM6 leak: QN3HD chip, AI microphone, and they're foldable again

Ille Smolanko | Audio | May 8, 2025 10:45 AM CDT

Leaks have surfaced, revealing the specifications and pricing for Sony's upcoming WH-1000XM6 headphones. The new model, as reported by Android Authority and Dealabs, contains a new noise-cancelling processor, an AI-powered microphone, and a $449.99 USD price tag.

Sony WH-1000XM6 leak: QN3HD chip, AI microphone, and they're foldable again

Sony's current WH-1000XM5 model is recognized among the best when it comes to consumer ANC over-ears. However, the XM5 is widely considered a marginal improvement over the XM4's, delivering slightly better noise cancellation and voice quality than its predecessor, with a new style, form factor and price tag.

Similarly, the leaks for the XM6 reveal what appear to be iterative improvements, with specs focusing on the upgraded QN3 HD noise-cancelling processor. This new chip is reportedly 'seven times faster' than the XM5's. The extent to which this translates to higher sound quality or better noise cancellation remains to be seen.

All evidence points to GTA 6 launching at 30FPS locked, no 60FPS mode

Jak Connor | Gaming | May 8, 2025 10:16 AM CDT

Rockstar has rocked the gaming world with the release of the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, and while the graphics are absolutely stunning it has begged the question as to what framerate gamers will experience at launch.

All evidence points to GTA 6 launching at 30FPS locked, no 60FPS mode

The new trailer was analyzed by the tech experts over at Digital Foundry, widely regarded as the gold standard when it comes to gaming hardware/software analysis, and what they have gathered is that the footage we can see it has a 2560 x 1152p resolution. This strange resolution is due to the letterboxing, bringing the aspect ratio to 20:9. Notably, the letterboxing has been added in the trailer for cinematic effect, meaning the game won't have this strange resolution at launch.

In terms of the overall image quality, the experts suggest Rockstar has used some upscaling technology similar to a level of FSR 1. Other areas highlighted by the tech experts are the inclusion of Ray-Traced Global Illumination (RTGI), ray-traced reflections, assets looking extremely high detail, and the absence of rasterized lighting. Other areas praised by the tech experts were characters receiving the appropriate shading, fine environmental details, and the immaculate rendering of hair.

Hideo Kojima reveals how combat will work in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Jak Connor | Gaming | May 8, 2025 8:51 AM CDT

Famed video game director Hideo Kojima has sat down for an interview with IGN where he revealed several details about the highly anticipated sequel to Death Stranding, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Hideo Kojima reveals how combat will work in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Kojima was asked how combat has been changed in Death Stranding 2, with a new emphasis on strategic combat versus the first game, where players were encouraged to avoid combat as much as possible. The director of the game responded by saying the developers have "pursued more enjoyable combat," but added this doesn't mean combat is forced or pushed onto players, as "the game is still fundamentally about cargo delivery."

However, combat in Death Stranding 2 has "become more flexible" with players having a choice to detour around enemies or engage with them. The director of the game went on to explain that some of the staff who worked on Death Stranding 2 also worked with him on his Metal Gear series, which sparked internal concern that Death Stranding 2's combat was "getting a little Metal Gear-ish."

Apple says why the iPhone may not exist in just 10 years

Jak Connor | Mobile Devices | May 8, 2025 7:50 AM CDT

Apple believes it's possible that we could live in a world where iPhones don't exist, and while you may think that reality is many, many years away, the company believes it could be a lot sooner than expected.

Apple says why the iPhone may not exist in just 10 years

In a Google vs Department of Justice antitrust case testimony, Apple's services chief Eddy Cue discussed the possibility of iPhones becoming obsolete in just 10 years from now. How did this come up? Cue was mentioning how artificial intelligence will continue to evolve and become ingrained in our everyday lives, eventually becoming part of the average person's daily routine. The top Apple executive continued and added that iPhones may not be the vehicle that humans use to interact with AI, and by extension, suggesting that iPhones may not even be needed in the future.

If Cue's suggestion proves to be true, Apple could be in some pretty big trouble, as currently iPhone sales account for approximately 50% of the company's quarterly revenue. So, what will replace the iPhone? Previous reports citing Apple's CEO Tim Cook state the company's CEO has been fixed on a specific vision for the past decade, and that has been "lightweight spectacles that a customer could wear all day."

Microsoft's $69 billion Activision deal: Investigation verdict released

Jak Connor | Business, Financial & Legal | May 8, 2025 6:15 AM CDT

Microsoft's purchase of Activision in 2023 was the most expensive video game acquisition of all time, and with that title comes a lot of regulatory scrutiny to ensure the deal didn't violate any antitrust laws that made the market unfair for competition.

Microsoft's $69 billion Activision deal: Investigation verdict released

The $69 billion deal attracted considerable attention at the time and has certainly given Microsoft and its gaming brand, Xbox, a massive boost in the market. However, with a deal of this proportion, regulators such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) wanted to get involved to ensure everything was done legally. An investigation was launched into the deal. The investigation results have now been published, and Microsoft has been found completely clean of any wrongdoing.

Bloomberg's legal team delved into the details of the document posted by the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, which stated in quite heavy language that Microsoft hasn't violated any antitrust laws with its acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, and most notably, the conclusion of the investigation will "reshape how the Federal Trade Commission reviews deals involving rapidly evolving technology."
