Intel's high-end Battlemage GPU, the Arc B770, could be unveiled at Computex 2025

Kosta Andreadis | Graphics Cards | May 6, 2025 9:02 PM CDT

With NVIDIA launching its GeForce RTX 5060 Series and AMD prepping to debut the Radeon RX 9060 XT, fresh rumors are now pointing to Intel entering the mix with a potential Intel Arc B770 reveal at Computex 2025. This would be the company's flagship 'Battlemage' GPU, building on the goodwill from December's launch of the mainstream Intel Arc B580.

Intel's high-end Battlemage GPU, the Arc B770, could be unveiled at Computex 2025

Although the Intel Arc B580 has had issues with availability and pricing, the 12GB mainstream GPU offers decent 1440p gaming performance, is faster than the GeForce RTX 4060, and is more affordable. The long-rumored Intel Arc B770, which will ship with up to 32 Xe2 cores and 16GB of VRAM on a fast 256-bit memory interface, could be here sooner than you think.

The Intel Arc B770 is based on the "BMG-G31" chip, which recently appeared on shipping manifests for an Intel facility in Vietnam. According to a new report at Wccftech, this facility is responsible for producing the Intel Arc Limited Edition GPUs for the company, pointing to it as the company's next big discrete GPU launch.

AMD rumor: abandons 4nm orders with Samsung Foundry, shifts 4nm to TSMC Arizona for EPYC CPUs

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | May 6, 2025 5:18 PM CDT

AMD has reportedly abandoned the use of Samsung Foundry's SF4X process node, after reports suggested the company would be mass-producing its I/O dies for EPYC server CPUs on Samsung 4nm.

AMD rumor: abandons 4nm orders with Samsung Foundry, shifts 4nm to TSMC Arizona for EPYC CPUs

In a new post on X by insider @Jukanlosreve, we're hearing that AMD has "decided not to use Samsung Foundry's SF4X process" after reports back in February 2025 that it would be using the process node for its I/O die on EPYC processors. We should expect AMD to shift those orders over to TSMC and its new Arizona plant in the US for these 4nm chips.

AMD was reportedly exclusively collaborating with Samsung on its new SF4X process node, with the new SF4X node used on its EPYC server CPUs, Radeon APUs, and even Radeon GPUs, with AMD using a dual-sourcing strategy between TSMC and Samsung Foundry, which would've been a big deal (mostly for Samsung here).

Microsoft recaps Windows 11 strengths, including 50% faster workflows, as Windows 10 EoL nears

Darren Allan | Software & Apps | May 6, 2025 2:00 PM CDT

As Windows 10's End of Life comes closer and closer, Microsoft is again advancing arguments about how much better Windows 11 is - specifically on Copilot+ PCs.

Microsoft recaps Windows 11 strengths, including 50% faster workflows, as Windows 10 EoL nears

In a new post on the Surface IT Pro Blog (highlighted by Windows Latest), it's not surprising to find that Microsoft is pushing its own Surface Copilot+ PCs. And to be fair to the company, it's not unreasonable to do so - they are good-quality devices, after all.

As it's an IT blog, the focus is on businesses, and Microsoft notes: "Surface devices are engineered for focused productivity, helping businesses accelerate results. Workflows run up to 50% faster on average compared to older devices. Whether creating content, reviewing documents, or analyzing data, Surface provides the performance to stay productive and competitive."

Switch 2 game prices are variable and not every new game will cost $80, Nintendo reiterates

Derek Strickland | Gaming | May 6, 2025 1:33 PM CDT

Nintendo was the first in the industry to introduce the new $80 price for AAA games, but the company is careful to say that prices will fluctuate.

Switch 2 game prices are variable and not every new game will cost $80, Nintendo reiterates

Like Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is also embracing a pricing spectrum for new software. In 2020, publishers introduced a new $70 MSRP for games, and now five years later, both Xbox and Nintendo are hiking games to $80. Sony has yet to confirm its plans for $80 games, but analysts believe PlayStation game prices will be hiked too. Only some games will be $80, not all of them--Nintendo and Microsoft were both very deliberate in this rule.

We've seen evidence of this with the Switch 2's games lineup, with Mario Kart World priced at $80 and Donkey Kong Bananza at $70. There's no info on the pricing of other brand new Switch 2 games, but Nintendo says this variability will continue. In a recent interview with Brazilian newspaper Folha, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser re-affirmed the Switch 2's software price mapping strategy.

Analyst 'more concerned' about Switch 2 holiday games lineup than initial launch slate

Derek Strickland | Gaming | May 6, 2025 12:31 PM CDT

The Switch 2 launches next month with over 20 new games and backwards compatibility support for thousands of Switch 1 games, and the summertime June launch gives Nintendo plenty of time to prepare more games for the critical holiday season.

Analyst 'more concerned' about Switch 2 holiday games lineup than initial launch slate

Analysts expect the Switch 2 to sell up to 8 million units at launch, breaking all previous sales records and making it the biggest console launch in history. The usual mix of games, services, and gimmicks will drive this adoption and some analysts aren't particularly worried about the Switch 2's relatively thin slate of new games.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella shares insights on the Switch 2's debut slate of games and why the selection isn't as important as, say, 6 months down the line when the holidays roll around.

NVIDIA faces new regulations that tracks AI chips, bricks illegal AI systems used in China

Anthony Garreffa | Artificial Intelligence | May 6, 2025 7:07 AM CDT

US lawmaker plans to introduce new legislation that would verify the location of AI chips after they're sold, which would effectively solve the NVIDIA AI chip smuggling into China.

NVIDIA faces new regulations that tracks AI chips, bricks illegal AI systems used in China

We know there are boatloads of high-end GPUs and AI chips entering China, even after the continuously strengthened US export restrictions, but those NVIDIA chips continue to flow into the country, with NVIDIA publicly claiming the company has no way of tracking where their products are after they're sold.

But now, U.S. Representative Bill Foster, a Democrat from Illinois who once worked as a particle physicist, said that technology to track chips after they're sold isn't hard, and that much of it is already baked into NVIDIA chips, with "independent technical experts interviewed by Reuters agreed".

In some new reports on Board Channels picked up by @HXL on X, US government regulations preventing NVIDIA from making faster and more advanced GPUs available in China saw the company tweaking its gaming and AI GPUs, releasing the flagship RTX 5090D based on the GB202 GPU and featuring the same 24GB of GDDR7 memory, but with hardware-level limitations on AI inference support, getting around regulatory requirements.

We had rumors from April 2025 that said AIB partners were told by NVIDIA to stop selling the RTX 5090D in China, with a new GPU ban expected, and it seems that is now here.

DOOM: The Dark Ages graphics detail showcased in new drool-worthy comparison

Jak Connor | Gaming | May 6, 2025 5:31 AM CDT

DOOM: The Dark Ages is just around the corner, and ahead of the official release scheduled for May 15, we have some gorgeous side-by-side images showcasing the graphical fidelity of the new Id Tech 7 engine.

DOOM: The Dark Ages graphics detail showcased in new drool-worthy comparison

The tech experts over at Digital Foundry have assessed the new screenshots showcasing the difference between Path Tracing and standard ray-traced rasterization. In the above GIF, we can see a big difference between the two graphical modes, with the Path Tracing image showcasing a lot more detail in the reflections, particularly on the ground and around character models.

We can also take notice of the detail that is brought out in objects such as the shield wielded by the Slayer, with the blades around the edges of the shield being a lot more prominent in Path Tracing than in ray-traced rasterization mode. Looking back to the dead sentinels that are on the ground in the middle of the screenshot, we can notice that in the standard ray-traced rasterization image they don't look very "natural" compared to the Path Traced screenshots, where each of the sentinels has its own high detail shadows and reflections off the ground.

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2 ships with an empty physical cartridge

Jak Connor | Gaming | May 6, 2025 4:02 AM CDT

The release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is still a month away, and we are beginning to hear how big third-party titles will be arriving on Nintendo's next-generation console.

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2 ships with an empty physical cartridge

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws is headed to the Nintendo Switch 2 and now we are hearing through retailers the game will be arriving in the form of a Game Key card, and not a physical cartridge that contains the entire game. In fact, the physical cartridge in the Star Wars Outlaws box won't contain any data at all, with players being required to perform a "full download" of the title via the internet to access the game.

For those who don't know, the Switch 2 is ushering in a new way for third-party publishers to get their games on the new system, called Game Key Cards. These cards, while physical, will not contain any of the game files on the card itself. Instead, they will act as an activation key for the respective game. Once the game is activated, it will begin downloading. Why has Nintendo gone this route? Multiple reasons. The first is to enable publishers to save on buying expensive high-capacity game cartridges, which may not be entirely filled by the game that is loaded onto them.

Apple to delay iPhone 18 to make way for its first foldable smartphone

A new report from The Information has claimed Apple is about to shake up its release schedule for its iPhones, with the publication writing the Cupertino company is planning to release its first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 line-up, specifically the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Air. Those devices are slated to be released in the fall of 2026. But what about the regular iPhone 18? The Information writes Apple could delay the launch of the regular iPhone 18 until spring of 2027, which, if true, will have many benefits for the company.

Delaying the launch of the regular iPhone 18 will enable Apple to emphasize its two new ambitious devices: the iPhone 18 Air and the iPhone Fold. The delay of the regular iPhone 18 would also put some focus on the higher-end iPhone models, which will be the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. So, what can users expect out of Apple's first foldable device? The specifications for the highly anticipated iPhone Fold are as follows: a box-style form factor, similar to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a 5.49-inch outer screen, and a 7.76-inch foldable display.
