2001's Halo Combat Evolved is reportedly getting a remake, but it may not have any sort of multiplayer mode.

A bit ago, 343 Industries rebranded as Halo Studios, shut down the Slipspace Engine project, and confirmed multiple new Halo games were in development. Then just a few weeks ago, the developers strongly teased that one of these new games would be revealed at this year's Halo World Championships in October.
Rumor has it that one of these games is actually a Halo CE remake. Next year, Xbox turns 25, and Microsoft may be celebrating in a big way with a new game in the classic series. There's just one potential drawback: the Halo CE remake might not have multiplayer.
New info from Rebs Gaming indicates that the Halo CE remake may be a campaign-only game and not ship with multiplayer. Sources tell the YouTuber that the Halo CE remake may also release onto PS5, something which seemed to be a given now that Halo has shifted to the platform-standard Unreal Engine 5.
The lack of multiplayer actually wouldn't inhibit sales potential of the game, considering Halo CE didn't have any sort of monetized multiplayer at launch, and still doesn't within the Master Chief Collection. Halo Studios/343 Industries have toe-dipped into microtransaction territory with Spartan Points, but ultimately decided against charging gamers money for the in-game currency.
Xbox CEO Phil Spencer also indicated that something Halo-related was coming in 2026.
"As we think about bringing a new generation of players to these iconic franchises, I'm excited to share that players will get to celebrate 25 years of Xbox with a new Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War E-Day, and the return of a classic that's been with us since the beginning," Spencer said at this year's Xbox summer showcase.
