A guy gets shot and from the your point of view, you walk up and pick up him to drag him to safety... this is where a WASD graphic comes up, telling you to press "S" (which is obviously, reverse/backwards).

Crytek and EA launched the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo yesterday and after playing it, I found myself quite under-enthused. It was okay graphically, but there are only a few drop down menus for graphics, no way near the customizability of the first. There's barely any destruction (which was a big feature of the first game) and no sound through my USB-powered Logitech G35's.

When it comes to making geeky gadgets and game consoles, even geekier Ben Heck is right up there at the top of the list of modders to watch. Heck made portable systems out of PS3s and more for a long time before he got his own show with element 14. Heck's latest episode had a cool portable conversion for a Sega CDX machine.

Fans of PC shooters will know the Battlefield name and we also know that the next installment of the franchise, Battlefield 3 has been in development for a long time. EA and DICE haven't really said much about the long development cycle and all I can say is that the game had better be good after the long wait.

I have tried out a lot of racing wheels over the years and they are not all created equal. They may have force feedback in common, but the Logitech G27 and G25 racing wheels have stood a step above everything else I have tried. If you are a serious racing game fan on the PS3 and have either of those racing wheels, you already know how good they are. If you are an Xbox 360 player, only you might not since the Logitech gear only supports the PS3 and PC.

It's hard to believe with all the talk of the Nintendo 3DS that has been going on for months now that the portable console is still only in the pre-order stage. It hasn't been too long since the mere existence of the console was speculation and now we know the exact price and date that the machine will land. Amazon has previously been taking pre-orders for the 3DS for about $250.

Shake it, baby. 2K Games and Gearbox Software have today announced that the vaporware-close-to-never-being-released Duke Nukem Forever is to be launched May 3, 2011 in North America with an international release on May 6th.

It's clear that geeks do not intend to let the Kinect be solely for use with the Xbox 360. We have seen all sorts of hacks and mods that use the Kinect already and the thing hasn't been on the market for long. I can see hacks to let the Kinect work with a computer or control a toy robot. What surprises me is seeing some students at the University of Washington hack the Kinect for surgery.

Robotic surgery is common today for some procedures since it allows the patient to recover faster and results in fewer scars. The remote controlled tools that docs use will stop working when they hit a solid object inside the body preventing the doc from cutting something vital accidentally. The catch is that the controls for the robotic tools keep moving providing the doc with no tactile feedback.

Some engineering students and a teacher at UW took a Kinect and used it to throw up virtual force fields around vital areas of the body and give the doc some feedback. Using their system the doctors will be able to get tactile feedback that will have the controller stop when the surgical tools hit bone and the doctor can then use the tactile feel to run the tools along bone and other body structures.

THQ boss Danny Bilson has come out swinging when talking about next-gen consoles, saying "It would be horrible," following this with "It still costs us a fortune to make games on this platform. If they're going to up the scale, up the art, up the content, I don't know how to make that and sell it to anybody for under $US100 a game."

Sony and Valve have finished shaking hands and the results of this is a win-win situation for all gamers, console and PC, oh and even Mac! An owner of the PS3 can buy Portal 2 which will have full Steam integration, with it comes a free copy of Portal 2 for PC and Mac OS X.

When it comes to 3D movies and content some people just can't stand the stuff. This isn't always just because they aren't fans of 3D; some people really can't watch 3D content without getting sick. I know a few people who never see 3D films because they get dizzy and feel bad. Reports are coming in that Nintendo held a showcase for the new 3DS console in Japan recently and journalists covering the show claim that some people got ill from playing the 3DS.

One of the publications is called Friday and is described by Kotaku as a tabloid. According to the author of the story in the Friday publication, several people using the 3DS at the show complained of feeling ill. In fact, the author of the story in the tabloid said he felt "seasick." Friday wasn't the only publication on hand that noted some folks felt sick.

Nikkei was there and did a video interview with one user who complained that after a minute of play, his eyes felt "tired", but he noted he could "bear it" and kept playing. I would say that 3D on the 3DS will be no different than 3D on other mediums and will cause some folks discomfort.

Nintendo has been selling the Wii and the DS for years. Early in the life of the Wii, the console was just about impossible to get hands on for most gamers. The Wii was so scarce that people were paying hundreds more to get them on eBay than the MSRP and many stood in line and waited for a long time to get their own. The popularity of the Wii isn't what it once was, but it is still popular.
