After posting some news yesterday about Crysis 2 rumored to be getting a DX11 patch any second now, I've woken up this morning to see Kitguru are reporting that the DX11 is not coming. I read more into it and Kitguru state "we have no information as to how, or where this "Crysis 2 Direct X 11 patch is coming" was sourced from.

Well, I did some digging and found a great little picture on NVIDIA's own website. I've posted this picture above and the tag for it says:

Technology, it's a wonderful thing. It's even better when used in a medical-based environment, the engineers who invented the microfluidic device are hopeful it can be used in developing countries.

Mehmet Toner who is a Harvard Medical School professor of biomedical engineering along with MIT aeronautical engineer Brian Wardle came up with adapting Toner's project (on which he worked on for four years) which is being used in hospitals currently. Wardle used his knowledge of aeronaturics to streamline the carbon nanotube-studded device, making it stronger and capable of collecting cancerous cells eight times better than Toner's original device was capable of.

MySpace has seen better days. And months. And years, for that matter. After eliminating "major redundancies" to the tune of about 500 positions, MySpace's company profile is beginning to resemble more and more their color scheme: black and blue all over.

Everyone is pointing the finger at Facebook, the White Whale of social media- and they're all correct. Facebook's success has overshadowed MySpace for the last two years, if not longer. It got to the point where CEO Mike Jones was forced to admit in November of 2010 that MySpace couldn't compete anymore, would be rebranding itself as a social media entertainment destination of sorts. For all of you keeping track, Yahoo pulled a similar maneuver in the past few years when it failed to stack up to Google in Search- they repositioned themselves as an entertainment news site. And furthermore, if anyone reading this is old enough to remember AOL when it didn't own like 23498 blogs, they did pretty much the same thing when their subscription service tanked (you know, when people realized they could just download an internet browser?).

Despite the repositioning efforts which netted the implacable MySpace 95 million unique users, its reported that the site went from 73 million to 63 million unique users in a four-week span between January and February.

Mark your iCal's: Apple's annual Worldwide Developer's conference will be held June 6-10, right here in San Francisco at the Moscone Center (apple really likes this place, having held many a launch and conference in this same location).

If you're on Apple's mailing list, you probably already received an email with all the normal fanfare and wonder of an email from Apple. Brevity is the soul of both Wit and Marketing, and Apple figured that out a long time ago. The tagline for this year's event is "the future of iOS and Mac OS", which presumably has something to do with running out of large jungle cats with which to name the latter.

Intel announced today the release of their third-generation Solid-State Drive (SSD) as part of their new 320 series. Like the eponymous hardware, the specs on this model are pretty solid:

- Third-generation Intel® SSD 320 Series on 25-nm NAND flash memory offers 40-, 80-, 120-, 160-GB plus higher capacity 300- and 600GB options.

- Advanced architecture enables robust, reliable SSDs with enhanced security features for desktop/notebook PCs or server data center storage.

Despite their recent issues with Oracle, HP has got Latin America locked down when it comes to technical infrastructure. The company announced today that they will continue the relationship that started over a decade ago with the Mexican arm of soft-drink giant Coca-Cola to the tune of $100 million and 5 more years. Hector Calva, Chief Information Officer of Coca-Cola FEMSA commented,

Something tells me that the Latin American people want more opportunities than just a soda en los manos, but the idealism is almost as refreshing as their iconic beverage. HP is reportedly consolidating 348 different locations to a single data center in Mexico- from a business perspective, that sounds like a lot of people will be out work once the debris settles. Hopefully they've been there long enough to take advantage of their stock opciones.

Amazon's Appstore was unveiled last week but no one seemed to notice the Test Drive feature that could now become the biggest part of the new Appstore. Test Drive allows US customers to try Android-based apps before you buy them on Amazon.com - pretty great, huh?

Test Drive actually features an entire virtual Android smartphone with working mouse controls, which is quite the feat and quite the service that Amazon.com are giving their customers. Test Drive allows you to try out games, delete said game, browse photos, listen to some music or even surf the web from the virtual Android device.

Amazon explains it as:

Everyone's favorite search engine today adds its 146th interface language: Cherokee. Google has been working with the Cherokee Nation to translate its operating interface to Cherokee as an effort to stave off what could be potential extinction for the now-endangered language. In a press release from the Cherokee Nation's official website, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith said,

If you've been following us, you know that we had a chance to check out the Nintendo 3DS at both the 2011 Game Developer's Conference and the Pier 39 Nintendo Pod.

At midnight tomorrow, the 26th of March, Nintendo will go live with its brand-new hand-held game system and its active 3D engine. To celebrate the event, Nintendo is hosting a gigantic party at the Best Buy in Union Square in Manhattan, starting at noon tomorrow. Nintendo will be set up in Union Square Park during the day, providing the crowds with live music and even more opportunities to test out the 3DS before it becomes available for sale that night. Players will have the chance to play nintendogs + cats, Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, Super Street Fighter IV 3D, Madden NFL Football, LEGO Star Wars III, and Asphalt 3D. Nintendo has also said that they will be featuring their augmented reality games like Face Raiders. Be assured that lots of Nintendo SWAG will be given out, and I imagine even a few raffles. Who knows? Also, the first 300 people to buy a 3DS once the clock strikes midnight receive a "special" carrying case.

Since the launch of the GTX 590 we've seen a number of reviewers mention that their cards had died during overclocking, and it's beginning to put doubt in peoples minds when it comes to the quality of the card. About 12 hours ago I'd taken off my reviewer cap and thrown on my investigator one.

It seems that most of the GTX 590s are dieing due to the amount of Voltage being put through the card. I spoke to MSI last night about Afterburner and asked them that if 1.2v isn't safe, how come Afterburner allows the GTX 590 to go that high? - The answer to that question was; "no, Afterburner only allow to 1.05v - 1.2v is not possible".

It came as a bit of a surprise, though, when I said that MSI Afterburner indeed did offer 1.2v on the ASUS GTX 590. Originally MSI thought only Smart Doctor allowed the voltage to go that high, but we've been told that the ASUS BIOS has been tweaked, giving the ability to push the voltage higher.

This is a definite "do not try this at home", kids.

"Jump Master" US Air Force Combat Controller Ron Walker was leaning out the side of a plane traveling at about 150 miles per hour when his iPhone 4 slipped out of his pocket. iLounge, to whom Walker originally emailed his testament (SPOILER ALERT: It was typed out and emailed on the same iPhone!), reported that immediately after losing the phone, Walker thought to himself,

San Jose-based OCZ Technology Group has shipped its 1,000,000th Solid State Drive. This is exciting news for both OCZ and the general computing population, as SSD drives have the potential to run faster while being extensively more durable than our old-school spinning hard drives. SSD's have been used in the military for years now as a much more plausible alternative to something that would probably shake apart at Mach 1.

SSD drives still have a similar performance rate to Hard Disks, and are generally a lot more expensive. The 1,000,000 mark for OCZ signifies a greater interest and usage, meaning that the various hardware operating systems will begin to update more and more to accommodate SSD's.

Yay.

Well not really. Or rather, not yet.

Columbia doctors want to use Watson to diagnose patients, so they've been testing "him" for almost a year to see how the trivia super computer stacks up in medical problem-solving.

The project is led by Herbert Chase, a professor of clinical medicine in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. Through a series of tests, questions, inquiries, and experiments, Chase hopes to retrofit the knowledge bot with an understanding of diagnostic medicine.

This could be some seriously good news for Apple fans, there is news floating out there is a new update for Mac OS X bringing it up to version 10.6.7 for early 2011 MacBook Pro (Sandy Bridge).

The update appears to bring support natively for the following GPUs:

Crysis 2 has launched and has gotten some huge attention because of it's multi-platform release. It has been released on Xbox 360 and PS3 and of course for PC. Console gamers have bragged that it's some of the best graphics ever on consoles while PC gamers are saying the original (with mods) looks better.

The game (on PC) does not include any intricate detail adjustments apart from different "modes" of graphics. It's quite disappointing as things like motion blur on a high-refresh screen just look ridiculous. The game however has gotten some good talk about the single player campaign and the multiplayer has actually been 'dumb-fun' for me. It's an obvious Call of Duty clone, but in a world of Call of Duty clones, it stands apart.

The reason I say this is compared to the first games Multiplayer, this is an improvement.

Better late than never is what Microsoft are probably thinking with this update for Windows 7. For the life of me, I don't understand how all of these features were not included in the stock release of WP7. But, who cares now, right? The release is here and has plenty of goodies to keep WP7 owners happy.

The biggest feature change is Copy & Paste, this was a huge debacle with the Apple iPhone when it came out and Microsoft have sorted this out quick smart in comparison. Below is a list of the full changelog.

You probably saw it on our Download of the Day, but just in case you were suspicious of what 9 million users and counting have confidently downloaded, here are some initial observations from using Firefox 4 all day today to write the last few posts.

Upon downloading, I was greeted with a wonderfully and aesthetically pleasing tutorial set-up (not that I really needed it, I just watched it because I was curious). If you're just now getting on the Firefox Train (like, if you were born in the late 1990's), it's a helpful introduction. You can also totally join the party by being part of Mozilla's Twitter Party feature, in which your Twitter Avatar is somehow algorithm'd into a pixellated version of their well-known browser logo. There's even a nifty search function once you've tweeted the #fx4 hashtag to see your tweet amongst the 67,000 others.

What I've Noticed So Far

Earlier this month, Blizzard Execs Mike Morhaime, Frank Pearce and Allen Adham celebrated the anniversary of the iconic gaming powerhouse they had founded 20 years ago by ringing the closing bell at NASDAQ in New York on March 7. There's a lot to celebrate for the company that originally brought us "The Death & Return of Superman" and is now the proud father of their 7 year old baby, the 5 million large MMORPG, World of Warcraft. How exactly, you might ask, does such a team rejoice in their financial success and fame? By playing StarCraft II on those giant NASDAQ displays, of course.

JEALOUS.

If you were lucky enough to be in Times Square that morning, you would have been treated to 7-story cinematics projected on the NASDAQ tower from popular Activision Blizzard titles like World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. It was like The Today Show, but instead of Al Roker "predicting" the weather (you're outside already Al. How hard can it be?), it was a 7-story-high to-scale Deathwing forecasting Awesome. With a chance of Awesome. I know there's a Blizzard / "wintry mix" joke in here somewhere.
