HighPoint announces industry's first Gen5 NVMe RAID AIC at $999, crazy 56GB/sec speeds
HighPoint has just announced a new "landmark pricing strategy" for its Gen5 x16 4x M.2 NVMe AIC series, at $999 and $899, the Rocket 7604A RAID AIC and Rocket 1604A Switch AIC offer over 50GB/sec+ of real-world SSD transfer speeds.
HighPoint's Rocket 7604A and Rocket 1604A AICs change up the storage game for space-constrained industrial and edge computing environments, powered by the company's in-house PCIe Gen5 Switching Architecture and Broadcom's PEX89048 PCIe Switch IC, we have over 50GB/sec+ of real-world transfer speeds using x4 lanes of dedicated Gen5 bandwidth available to each M.2 port.
In order to meet the needs of its industrial customers, HighPoint's engineering team meticulously re-engineered the AIC PCB to conform to the FH-HL form factor, resulting in an unprecedentedly compact PCIe device measuring just 167mm in length - dramatically shorter than typical 4-Port Gen5 cards, which often exceed 290mm.
SDC teases first OLED gaming monitor with GPU-busting 720Hz refresh rate
SDC is a monitor manufacturer out of China that you might not have heard of, but they're the first ones to burst through the insane 700Hz refresh rate with its new Flash 540-Meta WOLED gaming monitor and its massive 720Hz refresh rate. Check it out:
We haven't had the official unveiling of SDC's new 540-Meta gaming monitor, but underneath the new 720Hz gaming monitor is using LG's new 4th Gen W-OLED panel, seeing it smash above the 600Hz offerings from both ASUS and MSI that we saw at Computex 2025 barely a month ago now.
SDC's new Flash 540-Meta gaming monitor is now officially the fastest OLED-based gaming monitor, with a refresh rate ranging between 540Hz and 720Hz, with a native 2560 x 1440 resolution (1440p). There are some glaring issues that we can see, as SDC lists that its new Flash 540-Mega gaming monitor uses an older DisplayPort 1.4 connector, versus the new DP2.1 UHBR20 port that is the only connectivity that's able to handle the insane 720Hz refresh rate through its 80Gbps of bandwidth.
Seagate's new 4TB Expansion Card for Xbox consoles has a $500 price tag
One of the best things about the current home consoles, specifically the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, is that the internal storage has moved away from old-school platter hard drives to high-speed SSDs. It has been a game-changer, from more responsive menus to dramatically reduced game loading times.
However, Sony and Microsoft have taken different approaches to expanding the storage on their home consoles. Sony opted for a more open approach for the PlayStation 5, allowing users to install any PCIe Gen4 M.2 SSD as long as it meets a minimum read and write speed. Conversely, Microsoft limits storage expansion to custom proprietary Expansion Cards currently supplied by two brands: Seagate and Western Digital.
This is a roundabout way of saying that it's great to see Seagate release a new 4TB Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S; however, with no competition, the $499.99 price tag stings especially when you can pick up a 4TB SSD for PS5 consoles for half the price.
Witcher 3 director's new game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, gets its first extended trailer
Developer Rebel Wolves is what you'd call a dream team, a studio headed up by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and a team that includes several ex-CD Projekt Red developers looking to branch out and create what they feel is an evolution of the style of RPG popularized by The Witcher 3.
The studio's first game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, which Bandai Namco will publish, received its first gameplay trailer, 'Trapped Between Two Worlds,' at the recent Xbox Games Showcase. The game is set in a medieval Europe ruled by vampires, and it's a single-player RPG where you take on the role of Coen - a Dawnwalker. He's old-timey Blade in that he's got vampire powers, hates vampires, and has no trouble walking around during the day.
The trailer gives a glimpse at early gameplay, cinematics, and combat. An extended gameplay reveal event is scheduled for June 21. The game itself is on track for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Skyblivion confirmed for 2025, will support GOG's new one-click modding
Skyblivion is a total conversion fan-made mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that also happens to be a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Unlike the recent Oblivion Remastered release, from Bethesda and Virtuos, which is essential Oblivion with modern Unreal Engine 5-powered visuals, Skyblivion is a remake that aims to improve and even redesign the core game.
This means redesigned combat, leveling, revamped dungeons, more diverse biomes to explore, and more. Skyblivion is one of the most ambitious mod projects currently in development, and it's on track for release later this year. It will also be compatible with GOG One-Click Mod, a new mod integration feature for GOG that aims to make installing and playing mods as easy as clicking install on a game.
One of the hardest parts of trying out a new mod is accessibility, knowing how to install it, and knowing what steps need to be taken to ensure it doesn't break the game. GOG One-Click Mod is a new system for the GOG storefront and GOG Galaxy app that removes the frustration by simplifying the process to a 'click install and then play'.
SK hynix unveils DRAM memory chip roadmap for the next 30 years: 4F2VG tech, 3D DRAM, and more
SK hynix has teased its DRAM memory chip roadmap covering the next 30 years, which will include 4F2VG (vertical gate) technology that will improve DRAM chips, overcoming manufacturing challenges, with 3D DRAM as the "main driver" of its future growth.

NVIDIA's quantum computing team forged: alliance between US and Taiwanese companies
NVIDIA has been forming its quantum computing team, something that will see an alliance between American and Taiwanese companies.
In a new report from UDN spotted by Dan Nystedt on X, we're hearing that NVIDIA will be including Quanta Computing, Compal Electronics, and Supermicro for its new quantum computing plans. Quanta will be taking care of hardware testing and validation using NVIDIA's CUDA-Q, while Compal will be performing quantum optimization using CUDA-Q, leaving Supermicro to be involved with research.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said earlier this year at CES 2025 that useful quantum computers were 15-30 years away, but then just a couple of months later at GC's first-ever "Quantum Day", Jensen walked back his earlier statements saying that "quantum computing has great potential".
AMD unveils new budget, high-end SoCs: enter the Ryzen AI Z2 A and Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chips
AMD has officially expanded its family of Ryzen Z2 SoCs with the introduction of the new Ryzen Z2 A and higher-end Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme handheld chips.
A few months ago, AMD unveiled its new custom Ryzen Z2 chips for gaming handhelds with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2, and Ryzen Z2 Go. The first two -- the Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 -- are based on the Zen 5 and Zen 4 architectures, while the Ryzen Z2 Go is a Lenovo gaming handheld exclusive, and based on the Zen 3+ architecture.
But now, AMD has expanded the family of gaming handheld SoCs with the new Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme virtually identical to the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, but the new Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme has a dedicated NPU for AI workloads on a gaming handheld (because we all want and need that).
CherryTree's GeeFarce RTX 5027 POS custom mod: pre-built gaming PC inside a graphics card
This is something you don't see every day: a custom gaming PC built into a graphics card... introducing CherryTree's new GeeFarce RTX 5027 POS. Check it out:
The folks over at GamersNexus have one in the flesh and give it the teardown process, revealing that the custom PC building shop and its new GeeFarce RTX 5027 POS (what a name) isn't something you can purchase. It's most likely the result of a customer request for a specific-themed custom PC and not something that is mass-produced.
Inside, the GeeFarce RTX 5027 POS has a PCB with the system on it, and the graphics card thermal solution as its cooling system. Even though the system arrives with a PCIe slot, you couldn't plug it into a system and use it (as a second PC plugged into your PCIe slot on your motherboard) as there are no PCIe power routing cables or an 8-pin PCIe power connector that would work like a regular PC.
Samsung 3GB GDDR7 memory modules on sale in China, fuels rumors of RTX 5090 SUPER with 48GB
A retailer in China has listed Samsung's new 3GB GDDR7 memory modules on its website, fueling rumors of NVIDIA's beefed-up GeForce RTX 5090 SUPER with up to 48GB of VRAM (up from 32GB on the RTX 5090).
In a new post on X by @RubyRapids, who spotted the 3GB GDDR7 memory modules from Samsung which are listed as "K4VCF325ZC-SC28". The "K4VCF" modules appeared in NVIDIA's official video for the GeForce RTX 5090, and with rumors of the RTX 5090 SUPER boasting 48GB to 64GB of GDDR7, these new 3GB modules are how we get there.
NVIDIA's current GeForce RTX 5090 has 32GB of GDDR7 using 16 x 2GB modules (16 x 2 = 32GB) but with 3GB modules we'll have 16 x 3GB = 48GB for a purported RTX 5090 SUPER. We've had previous rumors that NVIDIA could use double-sided GDDR7 memory like its RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell workstation GPU (which has 96GB of GDDR7) but 3GB modules makes more sense (and costs less).

Dying Light 3: Techland says The Beast is the next AAA game in the series
Techland is putting their all into Kyle Crane's return in Dying Light: The Beast, so much that the spin-off is essentially seen as Dying Light 3.
Dying Light: The Beast is a full-priced standalone game that continues protagonist Kyle Crane's adventures, complete with refined game mechanics and new features. But it didn't always start out this way--The Beast was supposed to be an expansion for Dying Light 2. Then it morphed into something bigger, similar to the evolution of Assassin's Creed Mirage at Ubisoft. The Beast is so big that Techland is recognizing it as the third Dying Light game.
"We reset the whole development. This is a new game. At some point, a few months ago, we basically started treating The Beast as the next entry in the Dying Light series. Maybe it doesn't have '3' in it, but for us, it is Dying Light 3," Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smektala told Insider Gaming.

Xbox Ally's new 'Xbox experience' custom Windows 11 gaming OS coming to other handhelds in 2026
Microsoft has made a new special version of Windows 11 specifically tailor-made for PC gaming handhelds, and Microsoft has plans to release this new OS to other handheld devices starting next year.
Yesterday, Microsoft announced the first-ever Xbox handheld duo. The one-two handheld combo consists of the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, and the systems are being made by ASUS as part of the ROG lineup of enthusiast gaming hardware, with specifications to match--the Ally X sports AMD's new AI-powered Z2 AI Extreme chip and 24GB of RAM, which is a hefty 8GB over the Xbox Series X.
The real secret sauce of the Xbox handheld isn't the hardware or the specs, though; it's the operating system that runs everything underneath the hood. The Xbox Ally handheld duo runs a new optimized version of Windows 11 that's been heavily tweaked for gaming, including major convenience options, UI overhauls, and performance adjustments.
Resident Evil 9 is an 'evolution in graphical fidelity,' Capcom hypes 'spine-chilling realism'
Resident Evil 9 will leverage the power of Capcom's high-end RE Engine to deliver an immersive horror experience, and visual quality will be a big part of how this is achieved.
Capcom recently surprise-announced Resident Evil 9 Requiem, complete with a February 27, 2026 release date for the next survival horror chapter. Not many details were known about the game but Capcom has started to reveal more tidbits via press release materials and give players an idea of what to expect from Requiem.
According to the developer, Resident Evil 9 will represents a "significant evolution" in graphical fidelity that will deliver "unprecedented" amounts of immersion to players. Capcom has been working on a next-gen upgrade to its RE Engine called RE neXt and Requiem could be utilizing parts of this upgrade. Capcom notes that RE9 will also "harness the full power of modern consoles," potentially indicating PlayStation 5 Pro optimizations alongside heightened performance on PS5 and Xbox Series systems.
NVIDIA RTX 5050 desktop graphics card again rumored to use GDDR6 - but laptop GPU is GDDR7
NVIDIA's RTX 5050 is again the subject of chatter from the rumor mill, with an apparent confirmation that GDDR6 memory will be employed with the desktop version of this GPU (but not the laptop variant).
VideoCardz reported last week that its sources claimed that NVIDIA hasn't given up on the desktop spin of this graphics card, despite it falling off the radar in recent times, while the laptop version was what all the rumors were focused on.
Other sources have jumped on this confirmation bandwagon - obviously add salt with all this - and Benchlife has now said that NVIDIA's graphics card making partners have received updated info on the RTX 5050 desktop.
Microsoft proves Windows 11 bloatware impacts gaming performance
Microsoft has proved it can remove the Windows 11 bloatware if it really wants to, as its new PC gaming handhelds come without all that software that bogs down a system.
Microsoft has been heavily criticized in the past for Windows 11 having so much bloatware, which is a slang term for pre-installed software that isn't critical to the functionality of the operating system. Bloatware can come in various forms, and common Microsoft-added bloatware is as follows: Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Candy Crush Saga, Spotify, TikTok, Instagram, Disney+, Microsoft News, Dropbox, etc. Essentially, any piece of additional software that comes pre-installed with Windows 11 and wasn't requested by the user upon installation could be considered bloatware.
The problem of Windows 11 containing so much bloatware has reached a point where independent developers have created two-click tools to remove all bloatware after Windows 11 has completed its installation. You can check out one of those tools here. However, Microsoft has proved with its announcement of new Windows 11-powered PC gaming handhelds called the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X that it can cut Windows 11 down to its absolute basics to obtain better performance.

007 First Light is more James Bond than a typical action shooter
In a recent interview with Jonathan Lacaille, IOI's 007 franchise director, it was revealed what the developer is aiming for gameplay-wise with the upcoming 007 First Light.
Lacaille said during the interview with GamesRadar that 007 First Light will be taking from the traditional IOI experience, which, for those who don't know, is the developers behind the iconic Hitman franchise. However, keeping to that same IOI style wouldn't enable the developer to truly capture the character of Bond, nor "tell the full story of who Bond is". A compromise was made, and according to Lacaille, 007 First Light will integrate "what IOI does best," while also adding in new aspects of storytelling that will "really bring the full Bond experience."
One of those new aspects is giving players the ability to drive, which is a big part of the Bond character. IOI had never developed driving before, as it's not present in the Hitman games. Additionally, Lacaille said that 007 First Light will have more shooting than the Hitman games, which was a "failing condition in Hitman". However, Bond fans should know that IOI is aware that Bond isn't just a run-and-gun character, so there won't be "shooting and shooting and shooting". Instead, the developers are making sure to provide players with many "tools to feel as smart as Bond".
