Invincible comic 3v3 fighting game announced, original Killer Instinct devs making it
Today Skybound Games announced a new fighting game based on the Invincible superhero series, and it looks to be exactly what fans were asking for.
Invincible VS is an ultra-violent fighting game where players face off in teams of 3, smashing each other with melee attacks, combos, unique abilities, and tag-team specials. Invincible VS will also feature a story-based cinematic mode, which is presumably where the animations from the trailer are from, as well as an arcade mode for online co-op and PVP across multiple platforms.
Interestingly enough, the game is being worked on by the original developers of Xbox's more recent Killer Instinct reboot from 2013. Invincible VS is developed by Quarter Up, the first in-house studio at Skybound.

Activision has announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, a future-based shooter that brings player-favorite modes.
This year's Call of Duty will indeed be a Black Ops game. Microsoft and Activision revealed Black Ops 7 at today's Xbox showcase, confirming a few light details along the way.
Activision marketing head Tyler Bahl teased that there's "madness incoming with Black Ops 7's story," and press materials note that the game will have psychological warfare elements. The game will have co-op campaign, multiplayer, and zombies, and more details will be revealed in the coming months.

Final Fantasy 16, on the other hand, is now available on Xbox PC and Xbox Series X/S. There's an added bonus: The game supports the Play Anywhere cross-buy initiative, so one purchase lets you play either on console or on a Windows PC. The base version is $50, and there's a $70 complete edition that packs in all the DLC.

The Xbox Ally X will be much more powerful with 24GB of RAM (8GB more than the Series X and the Xbox Ally, which both have 16GB of RAM) and the new AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, which leverages an AI-based NPU to help with gaming workloads. Both the Ally and Ally X feature a dedicated Xbox button that calls forth the Xbox app, a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz screen and Xbox-inspired handgrip controllers (check below for the full spec sheet).

Splitgate 2 store gets massive discount following backlash over $80 bundles, $34 portal skins
Controversy has pushed Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games to lower the prices of in-game cosmetics by as much as 50%.
Yesterday, 1047 Games announced a battle royale mode for Splitgate 2 at the Summer Game Fest. On its own, that's not very controversial, but company CEO Ian Proulx went on stage wearing a hat saying 'make FPS great again' and gave some very gamer-centric takes for the leader of a professional games company: "I'm tired of playing the same Call of Duty every year, and I wish we could have Titanfall 3."
The marketing stunt stole headlines due to its MAGA political parallels, but gamers were quick to criticize Proulx and the Splitgate team because of the game's highly expensive microtransactions. Splitgate 2's premium currency is called Splitcoin, and it's sold in a way that typically requires users to buy more than they need for any one cosmetic purchase. Splitgate 2's battle royale launched with a Nano Swarm cosmetic pack that cost 8,000 Splitcoins, or $80, which is actually a discount because 1047 Games originally priced the Nano Swarm pack at 14,550 Splitcoin (an astronomically high $145). The Nano Swarm bundle includes six cosmetics: 4 weapon skins, a character skin, and a custom portal design.

Tencent widens its grip on the video games industry with an investment into one of the most popular game devs of 2024.

The Swedish video games developer made around $76 million in operating profit throughout 2024 on roughly $100 million in revenue, representing a thunderous 76% profit margin. Helldivers 2 was one of the most popular games of 2024 and has sold over 12 million copies to date.
Atomic Heart multiplayer spinoff The Cube has players fighting on giant Rubik's Cube in the sky
Atomic Heart developer Mundfish have announced The Cube, an genre-mashing shooter spinoff set in the Atomic Heart series.
Not only is Atomic Heart 2 on the way, but there's a new online shooter in the works too. It's called The Cube, and it throws players into a very unconventional battleground: a giant floating Rubik's Cube-like structure that's full of volatility across an unpredictable, ever-shifting map.
The Cube is an MMORPG shooter that may have roguelike and/or extraction shooter elements, and the design itself is quite stylish and unique with its alternate history themes and visuals. There's a very X-Files meets Control otherworldly mystique with Mundfish's experimental shooter.

Nintendo Switch 2 sales shatters records, most-sold console in 24-hour period
The Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly sold the most units out of any console in a 24-hour period, with Nintendo's latest piece of hardware moving as many as 3 million units.
That number has come from Nintendo Prime, a well-known Nintendo YouTuber who got that figure from three independent sources, according to Prime. For comparison, the previous record for the most sales in a 24-hour period was held by the PlayStation 4, which moved as many as 1 million units globally within its first 24 hours of being released.
If the Switch 2 numbers are accurate, Nintendo has completely swept the competition by tripling the previous record. The record-breaking doesn't stop there, as the Nintendo Switch 2 is teed up to break the all-time record for two-month sales after a console launch, which is currently 4.5 million and held by both the PS4 and PS5. At the current pace, the Switch 2 could break that record in a week, not months.
Nintendo Switch 2 exploit discovered that may lead to emulation
The Nintendo Switch 2 has been in the hands of the public for only a couple of days and engineers have already found an exploit within the system, likely causing Nintendo to flex into panic mode to issue a fix.
The very early exploit in the new console was discovered by a developer named David Buchanan, who showcased the ability to display custom graphics (a checkboard pattern) on the Switch 2 screen. Buchnana explained he achieved this through a userland Return-Oriented Programming (ROP) exploit, a hacking method where attackers don't run their own code directly. Instead, they stitch together existing pieces of code already present within memory to make the system do what they want. Essentially, Buchanna used the system's own tools to generate the result.
What does this mean? The displayed graphics are proof that the system can accept external, non-official data without any third-party code being executed on the device. Moreover, it's proof of concept that there is some level of control possible over the Nintendo Switch. As for why Nintendo would be worried about this seemingly minuscule, innocuous exploit is that it's the first step toward potentially more powerful exploits such as homebrew apps, modding, emulation, or even privacy.

Nintendo Switch 2 fire and exploding hazard warning, Nintendo launches investigation
The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally made its way into the hands of gamers, and while the vast majority of Switch 2 owners are enjoying their new console, some are reporting a critical problem that is a fire and exploding harzard.
Taking to the r/NintendoSwitch subreddit, user tombyt3 shared an image of their new Nintendo Switch 2 with a bulging back panel. According to the user, the bulge is easily visible, and when running their hand over the back plate, it makes it even more noticeable.
The user writes that they have contacted Nintendo about the issue, and the company has launched an investigation. What is causing the bulge? It appears the problem can be traced back to the battery swelling. The Switch 2 uses a lithium-ion battery, and there are a few reasons why it would be swelling.
Scientists unveil biggest map of the universe ever created, spanning almost all of time
The James Webb Space Telescope has pointed its extremely powerful instruments at a patch of sky that measures about three times as much space as the moon takes up when viewed from Earth. Webb spent 255 hours looking at this region, and the results are a stunningly detailed map of the universe.
This specific region of space is called the COSMOS field and doesn't contain many stars, gas clouds, or other celestial objects that can impede the view of observers. The COSMOS field is a proverbial window into the deep universe, hence researchers wanting Webb, the world's most powerful space telescope, to peer into that region to gather valuable data.
What Webb found was 800,000 galaxies spanning nearly all of cosmic time, meaning the galaxies observed, or the light produced from these galaxies, date back to around the beginning of the universe, 13.5 billion years ago. NASA estimates the universe is about 13.8 billion years old.

Yacht Club's Link to the Past-inspired Mina the Hollower launches Halloween 2025, demo up now
Yacht Club Games, the developers of the renowned Shovel Knight series, announced the release date for their new game Mina the Hollower at Summer Game Fest 2025.
Mina the Hollower will launch on all platforms on Halloween 2025, Yacht Club has confirmed. There's also heavy emphasis on customization with a multitude of trinkets and what looks to be a layered weapon loot system.
There's a free demo available on Steam and Yacht Club has confirmed that all progress made in the demo will carry over to the final game. Players will have until June 16 to download and play the Mina the Hollower demo.

Bethesda promises a fix is coming soon for performance issues in Oblivion Remastered
Bethesda has informed us that it's working on two updates in order to fix a raft of problems with Oblivion Remastered (across all platforms), one of which is in Steam beta now.
It's the second patch that most Oblivion Remastered players will have their eyes firmly locked on, though, which is further down the line.
That's the update which Bethesda notes will "focus on performance" although we don't get any details about exactly what it'll address yet. That info is coming, mind, hopefully before too long.
YouTuber recreates entire Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer 2 in LEGO
The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was released last month, and since then, a YouTuber has painstakingly recreated it in LEGO.
It should be noted that the above trailer isn't generated with AI, as some people may mistake this trailer for the AI-generated version of Trailer 2 that went viral shortly after Trailer 2 was surprise dropped. The above trailer is created by a person animating LEGO frame by frame, and that YouTuber is "LegoMe_TheOG," a creator that is well-known for recreating trailers as LEGO characters. As for GTA 6's Trailer 2, the creator said it almost took them an entire month to complete the trailer.
In full disclosure, LegoMe_TheOG did say some of the environments are procedurally generated, but "a lot of them" were handcrafted or built manually. In other GTA 6 news, a leaker who correctly predicted the last names of both the main characters has revealed details about what players can expect gameplay-wise.

Nintendo confirms it's recording GameChat conversations on Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been released, and since gamers have already gotten their hands on the new console, we now have a much better idea of how one of its most significant features works - GameChat.
GameChat is a prominent feature of the Nintendo Switch 2 as it features its own dedicated button on the face of the console. However, we didn't know much about the feature besides how it serves as a proverbial Discord room for players to communicate across games. According to Nintendo's updated privacy policy, for a Switch 2 owner to use GameChat, they must agree to Nintendo being able to "monitor and record your video and audio interactions with other users." Does that mean Nintendo will be listening in on every conversation Switch 2 owners are having in GameChat?
No. Here's how it works. GameChat Terms of Service state chat content is "recorded and stored temporarily" on all devices that are present within the GameChat session. Those stored recordings are only temporary and are only shared with Nintendo when a user reports a violation of Nintendo's Community Guidelines.

I thought Borderlands 2 was borderline rubbish - but others don't and it's free to find out now
Borderlands 2 is free to download on Steam right now, and will be throughout this weekend, if you never gave the colorful shooter a whirl.
Neowin noticed the giveaway on Steam, which is Gearbox's way of firing up some hype for the incoming Borderlands 4, which is only a few months from release at this point.
It's the base game of Borderlands 2 which is free, but if you want the Game of the Year edition, that'll cost you. However, currently Valve is offering a tidy 78% discount for those who fancy a huge helping of DLC thrown in.
