Mac Cloner Quo Sets Up Shop in LA
There is a new Mac Clone in town and he is setting up homestead in LA. This comes on the heels of the Psystar's bankruptcy filing. The new cloner goes by the name of Quo Computers and is making the move from online to Retail Store.
While Mac Clones are nothing new this does represent the first time one has opened a full retail store instead of the more usual online sales model.
Quo Computers founder, Rashantha De Silva is hoping that Apple will see the value in what they are doing. I am not so sure this is going to be the case as Apple is notoriously xenophobic about their products and all Quo may end up getting out of Apple is a ton of legal headaches.

Asus to push out a Media Player at Computex
Asus is getting into the HTPC market if the rumors and pictures popping up just before Computex 2009 at Hardware.info are real.
The tiny new box is going to be built around a new and previously unheard of Realtek audio chip (perhaps similar to the A200 Asus used in the Xonar).
The new box will be called the O!Play and will feature an e-SATA port, these are not usually found on HTPC/Media player systems so it should give the O!Play a nice push into the market.

Nokia's Ovi Store has issues at Launch
Nokia opened its very own App store on Tuesday and already it is feeling the same pinch that got Apple at the launch of the iPhone. According to an article at usatoday.com the Ovi store is having some technical difficulties and is not being accepted as well as would be hoped.
Users are complaining that to access the store they have to login on their phones browser as there is no direct application to allow them access just yet.
But the worst issue came as the servers were overloaded and could not fill all the requests that were coming in from Nokia owners. At the time of this writing Nokia has added additional serves to handle the extra load but the damage may already have been done.

Shuttle has just popped up a pretty neat video of their latest SFF system. This one is actually powered by the VIA nano. As part of the XS29 series the new nano powered systems will be completely fan less. This means minimal noise for those that are picky about a quiet system.
The flavor of Nano under the hood will be the 1GHz U1700, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, with graphics powered by an VIA Chrome9 HC3 integrated GPU.
The box will be small and light and according to Shuttle will sip a mere 50 Watts of power under load.

TSMC - 28nm in Q1 2010 unrealistic
We told you yesterday that TSMC was having issues with its 40nm process, well now it looks like this issue may affect their move to 28nm. At the time I mentioned that if TSMC cannot get 40nm right they run an even greater risk of losing future nVidia and ATi business.
Now it seems that TSMC will be behind GlobalFoundries in the race to 28nm as their previous claim that it would be ready by Q1 2010 has been deemed as unrealistic by an inside source.
If Global Foundries can get things rolling quickly on the 28nm process and be ready for production in Q4 2009 or early Q1 2010 they can grab up a good deal of the business TSMC was hoping to get.

Gainward and Palit Angry at AMD
Over the last couple of weeks everyone has been talking about how evil Intel is and how they unfairly dictate the market with refunds, rebates, special deals etc.
But what no one seems to mention is that AMD may be guilty of similar practices but in a different manner.
According to an article at Bright Side of News; Palit is looking to end its newly re-founded relationship with AMD/ATi due to AMD's treatment of them and control over product specs and releases.

IKONIK shows us new 2009 range of cases (video)
Earlier on today we visited Kathy from IKONIK at their Taipei headquarters and got an early and exclusive look at some of their new products which will go on display next week during Computex.
In fact, the cases were still warm from coming out of the oven. IKONIK just got in the first batch of their new line-up of computer cases for 2009 yesterday.
Kathy went on video and introduced the full range to us. Keep in mind the cases you see in the video below are tool samples and are not fully completed and may see some changes. They haven't been named yet either hence why they are referred to as low-end, mid-range and high-end.

Cooler Master has 80 Plus Gold PSU in the works
Also during our visit to Cooler Master today we met up with the power supply product managers and got a look at a couple new PSUs that the Taiwanese company is working on.
The PSU which impressed us the most was the UCP-900W which has managed to receive the 80 Plus Gold award for incredibly good power performance. This award is only handed out to top notch power supply products, so don't expect it to be cheap. This type of quality is normally only reserved for server or important workstation systems.

CM Storm Sentinel Advance gaming mouse (video)
Earlier today we met up with David and Eric from Cooler Master's gaming division, CM Storm, in Taipei at their headquarters ahead of Computex which begins next week. We got an early look at a whole bunch of products.
From what we saw with our brief meeting with them, it really looks as if CM Storm means serious business when it comes to PC gamers. We were not only given an exclusive and early look at their upcoming Sentinel Advance gaming grade mouse, but also a full range of their gaming surfaces. Note to David - I still want a TweakTown printed gaming mat, please!

90% of all e-mail is Spam
I just do not know what I would do without all of the nice little e-mails that tell me how to have a better time in the sack, enhance my manhood, and of course the numerous offers for dates and cheap software.
I am sure most of you know what I am talking about here; it is the plague of all system administrators and users SPAM.
We often get tons of it daily or if you have a good spam filtering system you may see if only once and a while but the fact is that there is more spam out there than legitimate e-mails.
TSMC 40nm Process having leakage issues
You have heard us talk about the poorly executed 40nm move by TSMC, it has been something that we have said will hurt nVidia's transition to this new process. But now we see the actual results of this issue popping up in the limited availability of the Radeon HD 4770.
ATi/AMD's newest 40nm GPU is a great performer and the demand is high but the problems in the TSMC process are preventing good yields and general availability is suffering.
This problem could be an opportunity for Global Foundries if TSMC cannot get the problems solved.

Microsoft and Intel to limit Win 7 on Netbooks
An interesting story is floating around the internet today. The line goes something like this; Intel and Microsoft are working together to limit the licensing of Windows 7 on netbooks.
Now if we believe what is being bandied about we find that special OEM pricing for the starter version of Windows 7 will only be available to 10.2-inch netbooks and smaller.
Many claim this is going to hurt Via as they have a better grip on the 11-inch and up netbook market. However, there is an alternate possibility; what if someone is finally trying to put netbooks into a proper category? After all in an 11-inch netbook you can have better hardware and cooling. So it stands to reason that keeping the software cost on netbooks 10.2-inches and smaller would keep them in a lower price range where their lower performance naturally puts them.
