RX 9070 XT beats RTX 5080 in Cyberpunk 2077, 3DMark after undervolting: RDNA 4 hits 3.3GHz

Anthony Garreffa | Mar 12, 2025 1:01 PM CDT

Overclocking legend "Der8auer" has had some hands-on time with PowerColor's new custom Radeon RX 9070 XT Red Devil graphics card and overclocked the hell out of the RDN 4 GPU with some undervolting and a 3.3GHz GPU clock and put it head-to-head against the GeForce RTX 5080.

RX 9070 XT beats RTX 5080 in Cyberpunk 2077, 3DMark after undervolting: RDNA 4 hits 3.3GHz

PowerColor's custom RX 9070 XT Red Devil graphics card is the company's flagship RDNA 4 card, with Der8auer reporting that it features higher-quality components and a higher-end cooler. The card is so quiet that Der8auer said he thought he mixed up the OC and Silent BIOS switches, but in real-world testing both of those settings had nearly identical results (62-63C on the RDNA 4 GPU, and 85C hotspot temperatures).

Der8auer started by tweaking the fan profile settings by forcing a 49% fan speed, which is the maximum that the overclocker's ears could enjoy. Once this was tweaked, the results were instant: the RDNA 4 GPU scaled past 2970MHz (2.97GHz) and hitting as high as 3030MHz (3.03GHz) which isn't as high as PowerColor's advertised 3060MHz (3.06GHz) that it says the RX 9070 XT Red Devil is meant to hit.

GALAX RTX 5090D HOF XOC breaks 3DMark Speed Way world record: dual 12V-2x6 power, 3.27GHz GPU

Anthony Garreffa | Mar 12, 2025 12:12 PM CDT

GALAX's new custom GeForce RTX 5090D HOF OC Lab XOC Limited Edition graphics card has been teased, with its dual 12-2x6 power connectors and overclock breaking 3DMark Speed Way's world record with the GB202 GPU clocking in at 3.27GHz.

GALAX RTX 5090D HOF XOC breaks 3DMark Speed Way world record: dual 12V-2x6 power, 3.27GHz GPU

The GALAX OC team and Micka have shown off the design of the GALAX RTX 5090D HOF OC Lab XOC Limited Edition graphics card that sports not one but two 12-2x6 power connectors, versus the old design with a single power connector. The GALAX OC team helped design the custom PCB design for the new RTX 5090D HOF OC Lab XOC Limited Edition graphics card, with "XOC" standing for "Extreme OC" which is a model that only GALAX will use in-house.

NVIDIA has to improve every single change to TGP and memory settings, where after approval, BIOSes are distributed confidentially. XOC BIOSes usually leak out to the public, but this is not something that should be done lightly as cards without a dual BIOS make it risky as it can cause failure and you'll have a dead card on your hands.

Imagine if this GeForce RTX 5090 signed by Jensen Huang is missing ROPs

Jak Connor | Mar 12, 2025 9:40 AM CDT

Immediately after launching the GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards NVIDIA announced it was conducting a giveaway, which gave fans a chance to get their hands on the fastest graphics card on the planet, the GeForce RTX 5090. Now, the lucky winner has emerged.

Imagine if this GeForce RTX 5090 signed by Jensen Huang is missing ROPs

In a now-viral post on the r/NVIDIA subreddit, Reddit user "Happy_Killer77" shared a photo of an RTX 5090 sitting in its packaging, and above it was is packaging lid that features NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's signature along with the works "RTX On!". For those who don't remember, shortly after the new generation of cards was unveiled, NVIDIA announced a giveaway that enabled fans to win multiple RTX 5090s.

NVIDIA's announcement didn't state the company's CEO would sign them, but it's not totally unusual as NVIDIA gave away GPUs within mystery boxes as well as individually at the GeForce Greats in December. These GPUs ranged from NVIDIA's first GeForce card, the GeForce 256, all the way up to RTX 4080, with many of these cards being signed by Huang. Given the current reseller market climate and the elusive nature of the latest generation of NVIDIA GPUs, you can expect this signed RTX 5090 would go for a pretty penny.

NVIDIA restocks RTX 50-series GPUs, emails sent out about limited time availability

The launch of the GeForce RTX 50-series GPU has solidified itself into history as one of the worst GPU launches from NVIDIA, as the company is battling missing hardware on random GPUs, associated power connector failures, and, probably most importantly, an extremely overpriced reseller market caused by dwindling stock.

While we still don't have an answer as to why there is such little stock of the Blackwell-based GPUs, we do have some good news, stock has come back as NVIDIA has begun sending out emails to its Priority Access members informing them they have been selected to purchase a new RTX 50-series GPU.

GIGABYTE's 'Ultimate PCIe Scratch Test' pokes fun at ASUS's Q-Release system for GPUs

Kosta Andreadis | Mar 12, 2025 12:26 AM CDT

In January, reports of GeForce RTX 5090s with damaged PCIe connections began to appear online. The visible damage was allegedly caused by ASUS's new 'PCIe Slot Q-Release Slim' system on the company's latest AMD and Intel motherboards, which allows for GPUs to be removed in a single motion without having to press a button or remove a lock. Reports from reviewers noted that sometimes their GeForce RTX 5090's "got stuck," which meant removing the GPU could (allegedly) cause damage.

GIGABYTE's 'Ultimate PCIe Scratch Test' pokes fun at ASUS's Q-Release system for GPUs

In a formal response, ASUS's North American team said that after testing and evaluation, it "found no damage to the motherboard or graphics card that would affect functionality and/or performance." It also added that "any type of PCIe add-in card will exhibit signs of usage and wear marking after 60 continuous insertions and removals."

Well, GIGABYTE disagrees. The company's AORUS team in Japan posted a video to social media titled 'Ultimate PCIe Scratch Test' to see what would happen to a GPU's PCIe connection after 100 insertions and removals on its GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ICE motherboard. You can probably guess what the result was.

GeForce RTX 5060 specs leak, 3840 CUDA Cores, 8GB of GDDR7, 150W

Kosta Andreadis | Mar 10, 2025 7:01 PM CDT

Specs for the upcoming mainstream GeForce RTX 5060 GPU have appeared online courtesy of known industry insider @kopite7kimi, which details the hardware configuration of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4060 replacement. As seen in the latest Steam Hardware survey results, the RTX 4060 is the most popular card among PC gamers, so this will most likely become the best-selling model in the RTX Blackwell line-up.

GeForce RTX 5060 specs leak, 3840 CUDA Cores, 8GB of GDDR7, 150W

The GeForce RTX will be powered by a cut-down version of the GB206 chip that powers the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and will feature 3840 CUDA Cores. This is a 25% increase over the GeForce RTX 4060 and one of the most significant gen-on-gen spec increases for the GeForce RTX 50 Series. Although it's set to feature 8GB of VRAM on a 128-bit bus, the bump to fast GDDR7 should lead to a 50% increase in bandwidth. This should make the card faster than the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti in most workloads.

The leak also lists a 150W power rating, which makes the GeForce RTX 5060 30% more power-hungry than the GeForce RTX 4060. However, this is still lower than the GeForce RTX 3060's 170W power rating.

Want FSR 4 in more games? OptiScaler tool can do that, and supercharges Cyberpunk 2077 a treat

Darren Allan | Mar 10, 2025 12:04 PM CDT

If you were hoping for a way to fudge wider support for AMD's impressive new FSR 4 technology, there's now a tool capable of doing just that.

Want FSR 4 in more games? OptiScaler tool can do that, and supercharges Cyberpunk 2077 a treat

OptiScaler is a nifty utility that's been around for a while now, and as VideoCardz noticed, it just added support to force FSR 4 to be enabled - not in every PC game out there, though.

What OptiScaler does is allow games that already have an upscaling solution to have that switched for another option, so for example, a title that only has DLSS support can be modded to work with XeSS or FSR.

GeForce RTX 50 Series hotfix driver for black screens and OC cards not running 'at full speed'

Kosta Andreadis | Mar 9, 2025 10:29 PM CDT

Typically, we don't associate driver issues and serious bugs with a GeForce RTX launch; however, NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50 Series debut has seen many problems and controversies emerge. For early adopters of the GeForce RTX 5080 and GeForce RTX 5090, one issue that users have flagged is GPU crashes, resulting in a 'black screen.' Without an image, the only course of action is a reboot.

GeForce RTX 50 Series hotfix driver for black screens and OC cards not running 'at full speed'

The good news is that the driver team at NVIDIA has been engaging with users reporting this issue and has released a hotfix driver to resolve it, which made its way into the GeForce RTX 5070's launch-day Game Ready Driver. However, the 'black screen' issue seems challenging to fix as NVIDIA has just released GeForce Hotfix Display Driver Version 572.75 to address the problem - again.

The latest Hotfix Display Driver targets GeForce RTX 50 Series owners and builds on the March 5 release of Game Ready Driver 572.70. Interestingly, it resolves another issue related to the overclocking performance of the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090.

Overclockers UK is one of the biggest IT retailers in the UK, with the company selling over 5000 units of AMD's new Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs on launch, and that AMD has a "monster on its hands" as RDNA 4 demand is "crazy'.

Overclockers UK sold 5000 units of AMD's new Radeon RX 9070 series, says the 'demand is crazy'

In a new post on the Overclockers UK forums, staff member "Gibbo" said that the company had sold 5000 units on the day RDNA 4 launched, but in a follow-up post, we see that "demand is crazy" for the new Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs. In previous leaks from Moore's Law is Dead, we heard that RDNA 4 supply was 3x the COMBINED supply of NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 50 series, and 3-10x more RDNA 4 stock than there is RTX 5080 stock.

Gibbo said: "That is why I dropped the hint here, because you guys literally have around five minutes before the traffic swoops in and starts buying them all up. We do have several deliveries due today and next week, so we might have more available later. We have sold around 5000 units now, warehouse is working very hard to get them all shipped out today".
