Kingston silently launches Fury Renegade G5 Gen5 SSD: up to 14.8GB/sec reads starting at $200
Kingston has just silently launched its new Fury Renegade G5 Gen5 SSDs, with speeds of up to a blistering 14.8GB/sec reads, with the 2TB Gen5 SSD starting at $200.
The new flagship Kingston Fury Renegade G5 SSD offers up to 14.8GB/sec (14,800MB/sec) reads and up to 14GB/sec (14,000MB/sec) writes, with up to 2,200,000 IOPS performance. There will be no 512GB variant, with Kingston only releasing a 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB G5 SSD... no 8TB option in sight unfortunately.
Inside, Kingston's new Fury Renegade G5 SSDs are using the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller, which is based on a 6nm chip and uses 3D TLC NAND technology. Kingston's previous-gen Gen4 SSDs in its Fury Renegade family are getting a double up in read/write performance (for the 4TB model, anyway) with IOPS performance skyrocketing by 2.1x to 2.2x, while power consumption is lower at 9.5W for the new G5 Gen5 SSD, compared to 10.2W on the Gen4 G4 SSD.
Intel's next-gen automotive SoC detailed: Frisco Lake and Grizzly Lake SoCs get leaked
Intel has provided some more details on its next-gen automotive SoCs codenamed Frisco Lake and Grizzly Lake, which will feature Panther Lake and Nova Lake IP inside, detailed at the recent Shanghai Auto Show in China.
Intel's 2nd Gen SDV SoC is codenamed Frisco Lake and will feature a CPU architecture similar to what will be inside of Panther Lake CPUs, which will be launching later this year with volume production expected in 1H 2026. Frisco Lake will feature Panther Lake IP and core architecture, with TDPs ranging between 20W and 65W, with 10x the AI performance and 61% more efficiency over the previous-gen chip based on the Raptor Cove architecture with 12 cores at between 12W and 45W.
Another big upgrade inside of Frisco Lake is that Intel will be using its 3rd Gen Xe GPU architecture -- Xe3 -- codenamed Celestial. This new Xe3 GPU IP will replace the Battlemage GPU architecture, offering a huge upgrade over the 1st Gen Xe (96 EUs) design used inside current-gen automotive chips from Intel.
TSMC receives order for 2nm from Intel, should be for the compute tiles on Nova Lake CPU
Intel has reportedly placed 2nm orders with TSMC for its upcoming Nova Lake CPUs, outsourcing the compute tile to TSMC, confirming rumors from over a year ago that Intel would be indeed using TSMC 2nm for its Nova Lake processors.
In a new report from Taiwan Economic Daily, Intel has reportedly outsourced the compute tile for Nova Lake to TSMC to fab on their new 2nm process node (N2). Intel has been recently bragging about its new in-house Intel 18A process node, yet the company has opted to ask TSMC to make its most advanced processor to date: Nova Lake.
I have been reporting on Nova Lake for a few years now, writing back in January 2024 from rumors all the way back in August 2021 that Nova Lake was the biggest architectural change in CPU architecture since the Core architecture was introduced in 2006. Intel is working on building an entirely new architecture from the ground up much like Ryzen with up to 50% CPU performance improvements from Lunar Lake.
Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 developed entirely by CD Projekt RED, isn't being outsourced
Cyberpunk 2077's incoming Switch 2 version was created entirely by CD Projekt RED, a new report from Game File indicates.
Like many developers who made games for the woefully-outdated Switch 1, CD Projekt took a shine to Nintendo's new Switch 2 successor. With supercharged power, new tools like DLSS, and a high-refresh display panel, the new console refreshes the Switch so it can now play more demanding modern games. The Switch 2 can belt out 4K 60FPS gaming and developers are eager to flex the system in creative new ways.
That's what CD Projekt RED is doing with Cyberpunk 2077, which will be a Switch 2 launch game. According to a new interview with Stephen Totilo's Game File publication, CD Projekt developed the game entirely in-house. There apparently may not have been any outsourcing for the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk, which also plays into Nintendo's requirement of ultra-confidential secrecy from its third-party developer partners like CD Projekt.
Final Fantasy is already the best-selling Magic: The Gathering set in day one sales
The new Final Fantasy set for Magic: The Gathering hasn't even released yet, but it's already the best-selling new set of all time in the history of the 31 year-old brand.
Today, Hasbro announce its Q1 FY2025 financial results, showing a sharp uptick in Wizard of the Coast's tabletop revenues. In the earnings call, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks remarked about the rather high expectations for Magic: The Gathering in Q2...and it's driven primarily by the upcoming Final Fantasy crossover set. There's also more stores selling Magic products and holding tournaments.
"I'd say Wizards had meaningful outperformance in Q1--we also think it's going to do pretty darn well in Q2. Just to give some color on that: Final Fantasy will be the best selling set of all time on day one. It already is," Hasbro's CEO said in the call.
Discord CEO Jason Citron resigns, former King president to lead as new CEO
Discord CEO Jason Citron has resigned and will take an advisory role while the gaming chat company is led by a former Activision executive.
It's the changing of the guard at Discord as current CEO Jason Citron announces he is stepping down. In his place will be ex-Activision Blizzard King exec Humam Sakhnini, who served in numerous high-level jobs at ABK, including being the actual president of the lucrative King segment for multiple years, as well as serving as the chief financial officer at King.
With Activision, Sakhnini helped King and Candy Crush grow over time, and it's implied that Sakhnini's know-how will help elevate Discord's value, which is critical because the company is mulling going public.
TSMC plans next-gen A14 process node (1.4nm) production for 2028, while 1nm is expected in 2029
TSMC says that it remains on track to begin high-volume production of next-gen chips on its new N2 (2nm-class) process node, the first production tech that uses gate-all-around (GAA) nanosheet transistors, in the second half of this year.
The news was unveiled during TSMC's recent North American Technology Symposium 2025 event, with its new N2 node to power multiple products this year from AMD, Apple, and most recently, Intel.
TSMC's next-gen A14 process node, when compared against the upcoming N2 process, will have 15% more performance using the same power, or up to 30% power reduction at the same speed, along with over 20% more logic density. TSMC will be evolving its NanoFlex standard cell architecture to NanoFlex Pro, enabling greater performance, power efficiency, and design flexibility.
Sony listens to fans, adds retro custom themes to PS5
Sony listens to fans and has brought back the popular classic PS5 UIs that launched during the holidays.
Last year during the holidays, Sony rolled out a handful of special themes that gave PS5 consoles a retro refit, stylizing the system around the PS1, PS2, PS3, or even PS4. The console doesn't have custom themes, so this surprise was well-liked by quite a few PlayStation gamers. The themes were only temporary for PlayStation's 30th anniversary, and were eventually taken off.
It turns out the themes were more popular than Sony had thought they would be, so now they're coming back. Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5 will soon get its own themes under a new Appearance section in system settings. The new features are added in a system update to be released today, complete with a bevy of upgraded audio features and adjustments.

Oblivion Remastered on Steam Deck is unworthy of Valve's stamp of approval
Oblivion Remastered is available to play on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, but it's also available to play on the Steam Deck - well, kinda.
Yes, the game technically works on the Steam Deck, with Valve giving its checkmark stamp of approval on the Oblivion Remastered Steam Store listing, but it doesn't run well. Steam Deck players are taking to social media channels and posting YouTube videos showcasing the title's lackluster performance on the handheld console, with several videos showing the Steam Deck struggling to maintain a consistent 30FPS at the lowest settings, and dropping to, in some instances, below 20FPS when running around outside.
The problems don't stop there, as the upscaling technologies, such as XeSS and FSR, come with their own problems. When XeSS is enabled, a shimmering effect can be seen across the screen, but when FSR is enabled, ugly ghosting of character animations plagues the screen. Notably, when bumping the settings above Medium, the game simply crashes, per IGN's video. The good news is that framerates stabilize when indoors or in instance-based parts of the game, with performance testing indicating a solid 30FPS can be achieved, albeit at low.
Nintendo to have 8 million Switch 2 consoles ready at launch, analysts predict
The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to ship up to 8 million units at launch, analysts have told Bloomberg.
Nintendo could have anywhere from 6-8 million Switch 2 consoles ready for the system's June 5 launch, and based on current trends, it's possible that Nintendo could sell all of these units. If Nintendo does manage to sell 6 million Switch 2 consoles in a two- or three-month span, then it will be the best-selling and most-produced console system at launch in the history of gaming.
For its part, Nintendo may have underestimated demand, at least in key regions like Japan. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently apologized to Japanese gamers because the company cannot meet the full Switch 2 pre-order demand in Japan. Over 2.2 million Japanese people applied to pre-order the Switch 2--a stat that represents about $75 million in revenue from Switch Online subscriptions alone--and Nintendo simply can't ensure everyone will get to pre-order a system.
Oblivion Remastered stuttering like crazy on your PC? A Reddit guide promises to fix FPS drops
If you're one of the many keen gamers who picked up Oblivion Remastered when it arrived earlier this week, you may have been encountering seriously poor frame rates on PC.
There have been multiple complaints about stuttering performance and extremely sluggish FPS since the remake was unleashed, with a lot of blame directed at Unreal Engine 5 (which the game uses for its graphical overhaul).
Well, if you're in this boat, you might be interested to learn that an 'Oblivion Remastered performance guide' has appeared on Reddit (crafted by Sharyat). It's getting some big thumbs-up from players who were previously being driven mad by low, stuttering frame rates (particularly in outdoor areas).
Nintendo Switch 2 stolen from factory floor leaks showing internal software
In what appears to be the latest of the Nintendo Switch 2 leaks, a video has surfaced online of a Switch 2 unit, apparently taken from the factory floor, being handled by several individuals who inspect the console along with its controllers.
The Switch 2 could be the most-leaked console in recent memory, and even after Nintendo has officially unveiled it, given a close-up look at the hardware capabilities, games, and provided a release date, we are still getting Switch 2 leaks. The new video, posted to Bilibili (China's YouTube channel), shows a Switch 2 unit being handled by a few people inspecting the console in what appears to be a first-time look. The people can be heard saying the Switch 2 is running "firmware" instead of the software that users will see when they open up the retail version of the Switch 2.
The video has been shared to several Reddit pages where users state the model was "stolen" from the factory floor, and while we cannot verify if that is true, we can say that Nintendo definitely didn't authorize this footage to be taken or shared online ahead of the console's official release. As for the "firmware," if I were to take a guess, I'd say this model has been taken from the Quality Assurance (QA) side of the factory, which is where units are put through various tests to ensure they meet Nintendo's intended level of performance.
Windows 11's getting a new 'tear your hair out' screen, with redesigned BSOD now in testing
Your PC crashing is not something you look forward to, but this experience will soon change in Windows 11 - arguably for the better, or maybe for the worse - as Microsoft is testing a new BSOD.
The Blue Screen of Death is a more than familiar sight - though it's considerably rarer since Windows 10 rolled around a decade ago - but Microsoft is changing how it's implemented, albeit just in testing for now.
In the new Windows 11 preview that just debuted in the Canary channel (build 27842), Microsoft informs us that the idea is to bring in a more streamlined UI for what it calls unexpected restarts. (It's a line we've heard so many times before: 'Oh gosh, my PC has unexpectedly restarted, what a frightful bore.')
Nintendo Switch 2 now pegged as biggest launch gaming console history
The official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 certainly stirred up excitement among gamers, but now analysts are predicting that Nintendo could have on their hands the biggest console launch in the history of video game consoles.
It was only recently Nintendo had to announce it will be unable to meet the number of pre-orders it has taken for the Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan due to supply shortages, with the company having to come out an openly apologize to fans that have pre-ordered the console, but likely won't be receiving it on June 5. Despite efforts to minimize the number of pre-orders of the upcoming console, the 2.2 million applications have far exceeded what the company anticipated.
Following this announcement from Nintendo, Pelham Smithers of Japan-focused equity research house Pelham Smithers Associates says, Japan accounts for a third of the global Switch installation base, which implies there are approximately 6.6 million pre-orders globally.

Chinese AI data centers sell idle, refurbed RTX 4090D GPUs: 48GB models cost up to $5500
China's AI data center companies are selling off their stacks of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D graphics cards, because AI demand is dropping, and they no longer need the hardware and want to make a few quick (big) bucks with prices of the RTX 4090D hitting as high as $6000 in second-hand markets.
We saw Chinese companies modding the RTX 4090D and doubling its 24GB of GDDR6X to a very hefty 48GB, which is a huge performance win for AI workloads. But in a new report from DigiTimes, we're hearing that Chinese AI companies are now selling their GPU inventory as AI power is being reduced, and they want to make some quick profits.
Chinese AI companies are reportedly noticing a hefty 20% server utilization rate, so you can see why they're refurbing and selling off those high-end graphics cards. On top of that, there is a ton of uncertainty surrounding US export restrictions, and the latest ban on NVIDIA's custom made-for-China H20 AI GPU.
Not been able to buy the NVIDIA RTX 5000 GPU you wanted yet? That might be about to change
NVIDIA's RTX 5000 graphics cards may finally be turning a corner with stock levels improving considerably, or at least that's the latest suggestion from the grapevine.
Moore's Law is Dead (MLID) aired this rumor in his latest episode of 'Broken Silicon' on YouTube (see above), which typically recaps (or expands on) existing recent leaks, but sometimes introduces fresh material to spice things up more.
In this case, MLID has heard new info from a couple of sources at retailers about how NVIDIA is now getting more Blackwell GPU supply through.
Meta is now selling a conversation translator that is worn on your face
Through the power of artificial intelligence, two people who cannot understand each other's languages can now communicate fluidly. Well, almost.
Meta has rolled out a new update to its Ray-Ban smart glasses that adds a live translator feature where a wearer can simply say, "Hey Meta, start live translation," and the feature will be enabled. Once enabled, the conversation can begin, and the wearer of the glasses will hear the translated conversation in their preferred language. As always, there are some caveats. Currently, only four languages are supported: Spanish, English, French, and Italian.
Another caveat is that for live translation to work in the ideal setting, both people should be wearing a pair of Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. However, the feature does work if one person is wearing the glasses and the other is using the Meta app to receive the translation. What's nice is that users can download each language, making the translation feature available offline. This means you won't need an active internet connection to take advantage of live translation.
Google quadruples Gemini userbase in just 5 months
The AI chatbot landscape is extremely competitive with big tech companies fighting to provide a platform with the best user experience that combines fluid information interactions, a slick user-interface, and additional features such as image generation, etc.
While AI is relatively new, usage figures such as those obtained through Google's antitrust lawsuit showcase just how much the technology has been adopted by the masses. For example, Google's Gemini had just 9 million daily active users in October 2024, but according to recent data, that number has jumped to 35 million daily active users as of last month.
As for monthly active users, the same data indicates Google's Gemini pulls in as many as 350 million monthly active users, which is quite a lot, but not as many as competing AI tools such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has roughly 600 million monthly active users as of March. ChatGPT's astronomical numbers put it at the table with the likes of Meta AI, which company CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in September last year had obtained as many as 500 million monthly users.

Canceled: Supermassive's mysterious Blade Runner game never sees the light
Blade Runner fans won't be happy to learn that an unannounced Blade Runner game being developed at Supermassive Games has now been canceled.
A new report from Insider Gaming has revealed that Supermassive Games was developing a Blade Runner game titled "Blade Runner: Time To Live," and it would have been a character-focused, cinematic experience that leaned into the action-adventure genre. Players would have assumed the role of Blade Runner in 2065, and the story was planned to span between 10 and 12 hours. Notably, the story blended the "philosophical themes of Blade Runner with kinetic action-adventure gameplay."
The report reveals the game entered pre-production in September 2025, and the team behind it is the core team that worked on The Quarry. Pre-production was slated to end in March 2025, and prototyping was scheduled to begin sometime in September 2025. The developers were planning a full release of the game for September 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, along with the next-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The budget for the unannounced Blade Runner title was pegged at approximately $45 million, with $9 million of the budget being dedicated to external performance capture and acting talent.
Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer hits two milestones ahead of trailer 2 releasing
Grand Theft Auto 6 is the most anticipated game in the world at the moment, with fans of the franchise patiently waiting to hear any piece of new information from either Rockstar or publisher Take-Two Interactive.
Unfortunately, Rockstar and Take-Two have been tight-lipped on anything GTA 6-related, with the only piece of GTA 6 content officially released being Trailer 1, which debuted on December 4, 2023. Trailer 1 revealed GTA 6 is pegged for launch sometime in Fall 2025, and since it was released, it has now reached two significant milestones. Trailer 1 has surpassed 250 million views and 1 million comments.
For those who don't know, when the GTA 6 trailer was released, it took the crown from MrBeast as the most viewed YouTube video within a 24-hour period, not counting any music videos.
