Dbrand has been caught up in a controversy over its Killswitch Joy-Con 2 grip, with the accessory maker now issuing an apology to owners and a promise to ship replacements free of charge.

Dbrand issued a lengthy apology to owners of the Killswitch Joy-Con 2 grip who reported that their controllers were disconnecting when using Dbrand's accessory. Initially, Dbrand blamed the Killswitch owners for the disconnecting issues, claiming they were holding the Joy-Con 2 controller incorrectly. They stated that they had tested the Killswitch internally and externally and found no issues. Dbrand said users experiencing the disconnecting issues were holding the console by only one Joy-Con, stressing 87% of the weight on the hinge.
However, the pushback from the community was immense, resulting in Dbrand backtracking on its past statements, issuing an apology, and promising to replace all Killswitch units completely free of charge. Dbrand wrote it's going to "try out a new communication strategy where we both say fewer words and devote less of them to blaming you."
"After reading through your feedback, it's quite clear that our post was a spectacularly terrible response to the issue at hand," the company said. "Some of you have expressed that opinion in a perfectly reasonable way. Others have expressed it with literal death threats."
"As easy as it is to boil our original post down to 'you're holding it wrong', what we're sober to now is the point that you should be allowed to hold it however the f**k you want, without detachment occurring. We get it. Please continue dunking on us for the next six to eight months for reincarnating Steve Jobs."
Dbrand finished by saying it is now working on developing a new version of the Killswitch, where that problem is ironed out completely. What is great to see is that Dbrand has stated, "everyone, whether or not you're experiencing this issue, is getting a free replacement set of Joy-Con Grips."
"What we are 100% committed to is getting everyone replacement Joy-Cons ASAP, regardless of whether they're severely affected, haven't experienced the issue, have emailed us a dozen times, or have no clue about any of this. That's it from us. Expect the next update on July 10th."
