Intel reportedly set to announce another round of layoffs this week: 21,000 out of jobs
Intel is set to announce yet another round of layoffs, with around 20% of its global workforce to see their jobs cut, representing around 21,000 positions.
In a new report from Bloomberg, we're learning that the Intel layoffs would be happening this week with the company aiming to "eliminate bureaucracy at the struggling chipmaker" according to a person familiar with the matter. The move is part of a bid to streamline management and rebuild an engineering-driven culture according to Bloomberg's source.
Intel cut around 15,000 positions in August 2024, with its global workforce dropping from 124,800 employees in 2023 to 108,900 last year... and now with another 20,000 positions slashed, Intel's global workforce will dwindle down to 88,900.
PlayStation confirms release date for Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yōtei
Nearly five years after the release of Ghost of Tsushima, PlayStation has finally revealed the official release date for the highly anticipated sequel, Ghost of Yōtei.
PlayStation has taken to its blog to confirm the release date for Ghost of Yōtei is October 2, 2025, and accompanying the release date is a new trailer titled "The Onryō's List". PlayStation gave some backstory on the trailer and Ghost of Yōtei's protagonist, Atsu, with the company saying that a gang of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six took everything from Atsu, killing her whole family and leaving her for dead. Atsu was left pinned to a burning ginkgo tree but miraculously survived. Fueled by revenge against the Yōtei Six, Atsu learned how to fight, kill, and hunt.
She has now returned to her home with a list of the six names she plans to hunt down to avenge her family: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito. PlayStation writes that Atsu is armed with the same katana used to pin her against the burning tree, and while her story is fueled by vengeance, players should know Atsu discovers there's more to her journey than just blood-fueled revenge. Those interested in pre-orders should know PlayStation will be making them available on May 2 at 10:00 AM ET.
Bethesda officially unveils Oblivion Remastered in a stunning new trailer
Bethesda has finally unveiled what could probably be considered the biggest unkept gaming secret of 2025, the remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Excitement for Oblivion Remastered hit fever pitch when a leak occurred, showcasing the graphical improvements the developers Virtuos and Bethesda have made to the legendary title that was originally launched in 2006. The leak was followed by a short period of rampant anticipation and rumors suggesting Bethesda was preparing to showcase the title at any given moment, and then the publisher/developer posted a video to its YouTube channel titled "All will be revealed..." and gave an official date.
The showcase included a nearly 20-minute video with Bethesda and developer Virtuos explaining all of the improvements they have made to Oblivion Remastered, such as revamped character models, assets, UI, UX, voice acting, lip syncing, and mechanics. Moreover, Bethesda confirmed what was a big rumor and that Oblivion Remastered would become playable at the end of the presentation, which it was.
Oblivion Remastered is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, says insider
Oblivion Remastered has been released on every platform except Nintendo's, but according to a known gaming industry leaker, that may change.
The insider is eXtastv, who has been fairly hit and miss with his predictions, but according to the leaker, Bethesda is currently working on a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered, with the leaker saying there is "active work by Bethesda" on the project. How possible is this? Well, considering the power of the Nintendo Switch 2 and titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and most importantly, The Duskbloods, are all open-world games that are coming to the Switch 2 and will push the console's performance capabilities.
What is likely the most significant indicator that the Switch 2 will be capable of running a cut-down version of Oblivion Remastered is that the console is compatible with Unreal Engine 5, as Fortnite running a version of Unreal Engine 5 will be available on the platform. While the graphic intensity and scope of Fortnite compared to Oblivion Remastered are entirely different, it confirms the console is, at the very least, capable of running an Unreal Engine 5 game, which is what developers used to create Oblivion Remastered.

AMD RX 9060 XT GPUs could go on sale as soon as May 18, but 9070 GRE may be delayed by 6 months
AMD's RX 9060 XT graphics cards might be going on sale as soon as May 18, somewhat earlier than the timeframe the rumor mill has previously forecast for the release date.
If you recall that previous buzz on the grapevine, it claimed that AMD was looking at a Computex reveal (the show starts on May 20) for the RX 9060 XT GPUs (8GB and 16GB models), followed by a release in June.
That may well have been true at the time it was reported, and indeed the new rumor - coming from the Board Channels over in China (via VideoCardz) - insists that AMD was indeed planning this. However, apparently Team Red has now brought forward the release to May 18.
Avalanche of Oblivion Remastered mods continues, with 100+ already available to download
Oblivion Remastered has been causing quite a stir - indeed, the excitement around this remake has been more like a tidal wave - since it was revealed yesterday, and that includes a surge of activity on the mod front.
As we've already reported, while mod support is not official, Bethesda hasn't outlawed these add-ons either, it's just that if you use them and it breaks the revamped take on Oblivion, you're on your own.
And there's been a flood of mods, as Eurogamer picked up, with the numbers of the unofficial modifications out there now cresting over 100, a mere day after the remake was made available.
Someone is already playing Oblivion Remastered in virtual reality
It has been less than 24 hours since the release of Oblivion Remastered, and someone has already managed to get a playable version of the game inside a virtual reality headset.
The YouTube channel LunchAndVR has released what appears to be the very first look at Oblivion Remastered in VR with motion controls. The mod used to achieve this is called UEVR, which is a tool that converts Unreal Engine games to VR experiences, and since Oblivion Remastered uses Unreal Engine 5, the tool seems to have worked just great. The description of the YouTube video reveals that these are just very early tests of the build, and it isn't without any problems, as some motion controls are still causing the game to crash.
As for performance, LunchAndVR reports that the game runs very well indoors but experiences performance dips when outside. The above video was captured with the following game settings and hardware: Medium graphics, DLSS set to Performance, a Quest 3 VR headset with Virtual Desktop VDXR, Ultra, 72Hz, and a PC with a GeForce RTX 4090, Intel Core i9 13900 with 64GB of RAM. Notably, the gameplay was captured on the GamePass version of the game, with LunchAndVR also saying it works on the Steam version too.

Oblivion Remastered is just as moddable as the original, but not officially
Oblivion Remastered has been out for less than a day, and it has already received a selection of mods that can be downloaded and easily installed by players.
One of the biggest components of a Bethesda title is the player-driven community of modders who push the limits of what is possible within the world that Bethesda and its developers have created. An example of this is Skyrim, which one could argue wouldn't have maintained its staying power in the gaming zeitgeist without its plethora of player-created mods, which introduce an almost infinite number of ways to replay the game. Now Bethesda has confirmed and released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered one of the first questions players asked was - does it come with mod support?
Officially, Bethesda doesn't support mods for Oblivion Remastered, but all that means is that Bethesda won't help you if you decide to use mods and the game suddenly breaks. If the game does break, Bethesda recommends uninstalling the mods and verifying the game files' integrity. Alternatively, you can simply uninstall and reinstall the game. Despite these disclaimers, it hasn't stopped mod creators from already pushing out several mods for Oblivion Remastered, with the most popular being listed below.
New report finds GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs affected by PCB hotspots that can reach 107 degrees
Igor's Lab has just released a new in-depth report that uncovers a potential 'hotspot issue' affecting all GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, unrelated to the GPU chip or the latest GDDR7 memory. The hotspots have been recorded in the power delivery systems on the PCB, which Igor's Lab says could affect the longevity of affected graphics cards built using NVIDIA's reference designs.
Igor's Lab tested a range of GPUs from NVIDIA partners like Palit, PNY, MSI, and others. It describes the issue as "heat nests" located below the power supply that aren't often actively or otherwise cooled. And the issue seems to be worse on lower-tier cards like the GeForce RTX 5070, as the shorter and smaller PCB means these sections are more densely packed between the GPU and the display outputs.
Looking at a PNY GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5070, the former records a hotspot measuring 80.5 degrees Celsius, while the RTX 5070 reports a hotspot of 107.3 degrees Celsius. In the case of the RTX 5070, this is with a GPU temperature of 69.7 degrees.
DLSS is available in over 760 games and apps, with 7 new games added this week
NVIDIA DLSS is now available in 769 apps and games, making it a key technology in most PC games, not just those with ray-tracing effects. With the arrival of the GeForce RTX 50 Series of GPUs this year, NVIDIA introduced DLSS 4, which improves image quality by implementing a brand-new complex AI transformer model. DLSS is both forward and backward compatible, so DLSS 4 support is already available in over 100 games.
DLSS is more than Super Resolution as it also includes DLSS Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation - the latter is exclusive to the new GeForce RTX 50 Series. This week, NVIDIA announced that seven new games are getting DLSS, including The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which includes support for DLSS 4.
DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation is also available in Steel Seed, a brand-new stealth-action adventure set in a sci-fi world. It's the second game from the indie studio behind the acclaimed Close to the Sun, and it's a notable departure thanks to Steel Seed's blend of fast-paced combat and stealth mechanics. For a closer look at the action, check out the trailer below.
Bethesda gifts Oblivion Remastered keys to the Skyblivion team, mod won't be shut down
Skyblivion is a fan remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, built within the Skyrim engine. We've been following this project for quite some time, with our most recent report on the ambitious game noting that its release is on track for 2025.
After 11 years of development from a passionate team of modders, Skyblivion is a remake in the proper sense in that it overhauls dungeon layouts, environments, combat, quests, and more. With Bethesda's surprise The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launch, you might wonder what this means for Skyblivion? Will there be a "cease and desist" now that Oblivion is back in the spotlight?
Nope. The opposite. Bethesda has provided its full support and blessing to the 50+ developers who have been painstakingly remaking Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. With the release of Oblivion Remastered, the studio has gifted each member of the Skyblivion team a copy of the game.

Oblivion Remastered - Bethesda recommends GeForce RTX 4090 GPU for full 4K Ultra visuals
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now, with the new Unreal Engine 5 visuals dramatically overhauling the 2006 classic. As an Unreal Engine 5 title, the PC version supports a wide range of hardware, including the Steam Deck; however, Bethesda and developer Virtuos recommend an AMD Radeon RX 6800XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 GPU for that immersive 60 FPS experience. However, crank everything to Ultra and 4K, and the story changes.
Running on Unreal Engine 5, the remastered Oblivion is a Lumen ray-tracing title that offers the option to choose from a hardware or software-based approach. Hardware Lumen RT differs from full ray-tracing as it blends screen-space information with hardware ray-tracing to enhance lighting. The difference is noticeable, with Lumen RT offering more realistic lighting, reflections, ambient occlusion, and more.
In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered's detailed open world, the enhanced ray-traced lighting. However, for the game's 'Ultra' quality visuals in 4K, Bethesda recommends a GeForce RTX 4090 (as seen in the review guide) - so this game will seriously push gaming PCs to their limit for years to come. On the plus side is support for NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR technologies.
New AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin driver adds FSR 4 support to six new games
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.4.1 Optional Update is here, a new driver for Radeon RX GPU owners that adds support for the game of the moment - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. RDNA 4 owners with a Radeon RX 9000 Series GPU, like the 9070 and 9070 XT, will want to grab this as it adds FSR 4 support to the game.
AMD's FSR 4, exclusive to the new RDNA 4 generation of graphics cards due to the shift to an AI model for upscaling, is a massive improvement to FSR that delivers image quality competitive with NVIDIA DLSS. Game support is currently limited to titles with FSR 3.1, with AMD Software offering an override function, so it's great to see that AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.4.1 also adds FSR 4 game support to five more titles.
In addition to Oblivion Remastered, FSR 4 game support is now available for Assassin's Creed Shadows, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Dynasty Warriors Origin, Civilization 7, and Naraka Bladepoint.
PlayStation 6 portable should run most PS5 games without much work by game developers
Sony's purported PlayStation 6 portable will reportedly run PS5 games without intervention from developers, although if you want more performance you might need to download patches onto that PS6 portable.
In a new post on the NeoGAF forums by leaker "Kepler_L2" we're learning that the PS6 portable should run previous-gen PS5 games without much work from the developers, but the performance might suffer if the games aren't patched. We only just heard about the PS6 portable and its rumored performance being better than Microsoft's Xbox Series S, but less powerful than the standard PS5.
We should expect the full PlayStation 6 to have truly next-generation performance -- 4K 120FPS, with I'm sure with some form of AI upscaling through PSSR -- but the portable PS6 being capable of running most PS5 games would be very impressive to see.
NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti 8GB is DOA? YouTube channel argues the graphics card is 'instantly obsolete'
NVIDIA notably didn't send out review samples of the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB version - when the new Blackwell GPUs were launched last week, only the 16GB flavor was provided to reviewers - and we can see why going by a new YouTube video.
This is Hardware Unboxed (as flagged by VideoCardz), which had to buy an RTX 5060 Ti 8GB graphics card to give it a thorough testing. And - spoiler alert, albeit this is nothing you won't guess - the verdict was not good. Not good at all.
It seems that 8GB really isn't enough of a video RAM pool these days, although gamers have been saying that since the RTX 4060 Ti, of course (clearly NVIDIA wasn't listening then, or now).
Nintendo has made leaps and bounds with Switch 2 Pro controller
The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct revealed quite a lot about the upcoming console, and in addition to a juicy new powerful console, Nintendo has made significant improvements to its controllers, particularly the Switch 2 Pro controller.
Nintendo states on its website that the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will now take three hours to fully charge, which, when compared to the original Pro Controller, is around 50% less time. Why does this matter? The Switch 2 Pro Controller has a smaller battery than the original Switch Pro controller at 1070 mAh compared to 1,300 mAh, with Nintendo writing gamers can expect around 40 hours of use out of the Switch 2 Pro controller, which is approximately the same as the original Switch Pro controller.
As for other improvements with the Switch 2 Pro controller, Nintendo has added two new buttons on the rear of the controller that can be customized, along with the inclusion of the C-button, which is dedicated to activating GameChat for users with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Unsurprisingly, the Switch 2 Pro controller has received a price bump, making the smaller leap from the $80 price tag with the original Switch Pro controller to the $85 price tag for the Switch 2 Pro controller.
