TL;DR: Star Wars: Battlefront 2 has seen a player resurgence amid Star Wars media events, peaking at nearly 6,000 concurrent PC players in May 2025.

Amidst the buzz from May the Fourth, Andor Season 2, and Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith returning to theatres, there's been a brief uptick in player counts for EA's Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2, widely remembered for its controversial launch, has re-attracted a small core of players to the title. As of May 11, 2025, the game peaked at 5,942 players on SteamDB. The highest on PC since January 2021, when the Celebration Edition of the game released on Steam with 10,849 players.

Battlefront 2 received its last update five years ago with the Battle of Scarif, which was added to the game in April 2020. The game was initially slated to operate on a live service model, but the game's aggressive microtransactions and "pride and accomplishment" caused irreparable damage to the game's reputation.

Subsequent updates fixed these issues, adding a revamped progression system, new heroes, and game modes. However, the game operated on a skeleton crew for the remainder of its lifespan, with EA and DICE shifting its attention to what would become Battlefield: 2042.

However, even eight years after its launch, Battlefront 2 is still one of the most beautiful-looking and sounding Star Wars games to date. Although the disastrous launch soured public opinion and the eventual likelihood of a sequel, what remains is a glimpse at what could've been among the best Star Wars games of all time.

With the current uptick in players, there's no better time than now for eager players to revisit the title. However, noting that the game has experienced rampant issues with hackers, with malicious players rendering certain lobbies nonfunctional.
